ABSTRACT

Objective · To compare the clinical efficacy of cryotherapy and microwave therapy for Little's area idiopathic epistaxis in children. Methods · Clinical data of 675 children with idiopathic epistaxis treated in outpatient service of Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from July 2009 to July 2015 were collected, who were divided into cryotherapy group (566 cases) and microwave therapy group (109 cases). The overall inadequacy of the patients was evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) in the operation, and then the patients were followed up for one year. The curative rates of the two groups were compared. Results · The curative rates of cryotherapy group and microwave therapy group were 96.20% and 86.67%, respectively. The VAS score of the cryotherapy group was better than that of the microwave therapy group (P=0.000), and the mucosa of the cryotherapy group recovered well without scars. Conclusion · The cryotherapy for Little's area idiopathic epistaxis in children was safe, effective and simple, with the mucosa recovering well postoperatively, which can improve curative rate and reduce patients' pain. Meanwhile it was more economical, and easier to be accepted by patients and their families.

ABSTRACT

AIM To observe the effects of aqueous extract of Isatidis Radix (AEIR) on formation of hyperlipidemia in rats.METHODS Seventy-two male SD rats were randomly divided into six groups, normal control group, model group,AEIR low-dose (20 mg/kg),middle-dose (40 mg/kg),high-dose (80 mg/kg)groups and fenofibrate (20 mg/kg) group.Drugs were intragastrically administered for 40 days, body weights were recorded every five days. The rats in the normal control group were fed with ordinary diet, those in the other five groups were fed with high fat diet.At the end of experiment, the rats were killed, then ratio of fat weight to body weight, serum lipid level,LPL,HL,MDA and SOD were detected. The pathological changes of liver tissue were observed by light microscope.RESULTS AEIR significantly decreased body weight, fat weight and ratio of fat weight to body weight;significantly reduced the levels of TC,TG and LDL;significantly enhanced the activities of LPL and HL;significantly decreased MDA content and increased SOD activity in serum and liver tissue.Compared with the model group, the adipose degeneration of liver tissue in the various AEIR groups and fenofibrate group was improved.CONCLUSION AEIR can prevent the formation of hyperlipidemia in rats by regulating lipid metabolism.

ABSTRACT

Aim To investigate the protective effect of Panax quinquefolium saponins (PQS ) on oxidative damage and function of vascular endothelium. Meth-ods After 3 days of adaptive feeding of Wistar male rats,56 rats were randomly selected as the control group, while others were induced by streptozotocin (STZ,30 mg·kg - 1 ). The diabetic rats were random-ly divided into three groups:the model group,PQS group(100 mg · kg - 1 )and Vitamin E group (100μmol·kg - 1 ). The normal group was injected with e-qual amount of citrate buffer. PQS and Vitamin E groups of diabetic rats were administered orally once a day. After 4,8,16 weeks of administration, the con-centration of blood glucose and LPO,SOD of serum, heart and kidney were measured, and the tension of the aortic vascular ring was determined. Results Compared with model group, with prolongation of med-ication,the concentration of glucose and the LPO of serum, heart and kidney in the PQS group significantly decreased(P < 0. 05,P < 0. 01),then the results of the aortic vascular ring tension showed that acetylcho-line induced vasodilatation and maximum diastolic per-cent were obviously elevated in PQS group(P < 0. 05, P < 0. 01). Conclusion PQS could elevate the an-tioxidant function in diabetic rats, thus improving the endothelium-dependent vasodilation function and inter-fering with the occurrence and development of diabetic vascular complications
