ABSTRACT
@#Introduction: Breast cancer is now one of the leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide, including in Indonesia. Every health care professional and community member should pay close attention to these issues. Women diagnosed with breast cancer will experience physical, psychological, and social issues. Methods: This study looked into breast cancer patients’ experiences with holistic nursing care. The complexity of the difficulties confronting breast cancer patients will influence their experiences and perceptions, necessitating a holistic approach to nursing services. A qualitative exploratory, descriptive method was adopted in the investigation. During data collection, fifteen participants were recruited and interviewed. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was utilized to collect data. Result: The study’s findings provide five significant themes: (1) knowledge and understanding of breast cancer; (2) experiences felt at the beginning of breast cancer complaints; (3) non-health breast cancer treatment; (4) perception of nursing services received by breast cancer patients; (5) facts and holistic needs during and beyond treatment; and (6) patients’ expectations of nursing services to help their needs. Conclusion: The findings provide information on how breast cancer patients understand the examination procedure, accept a diagnosis, and proceed to treatments.
ABSTRACT
The experience of leprosy clients undergoing treatment in community-based rehabilitation (CBR) needs to be identified more deeply to reduce, prevent transmission and the disability it causes because it will impact the social life of leprosy clients in the community. The non-fulfillment of the needs of leprosy clients in the community will impact the conditions of transmission and disability of leprosy clients. We explored the experiences of leprosy clients attending self-care groups during CBR for identifying their health needs. A descriptive phenomenology study was performed among leprosy clients, families, and healthcare providers. Our study included 16 leprosy clients and their families and six healthcare providers. A triangulation method was performed to compare the third source data. Thematic analysis was used to identify the phenomenon of leprosy during CBR for fulfilling their health needs. We have identified five themes, including leprosy prevention efforts, self-care process and client treatment for leprosy, the needs of clients with leprosy during self-care at CBR, medication, and therapy during the CBR family support during rehabilitation and treatment. Therefore, fulfilling the needs for self-care, medication, and therapy during the rehabilitation period for leprosy clients in the community needs to be facilitated and fulfilled to support recovery. Furthermore, CBR designs that prioritize self-care aspects and are integrated with family care need to be developed in the future. All these approaches should be developed, adapted and validated in different settings with specific needs
ABSTRACT
Background@#Galohgor nutraceutical lactation cookies (NLC) contain polyherbal which is believed and consumed by postpartum mothers of Sundanese Ethnic in Indonesia to increase breast milk production. This study was aimed to analyze the effects of NLC cookies on breast milk volume and lactose concentrations of postpartum mothers. @*Methods@#The experimental study with post-controlled design was conducted. Twenty eligible mother-infant pairs were enrolled and divided into two groups. They were randomly assigned to receive NLC (n=9) or original cookies (ORC, n=11). Each subjects consumed 4 pieces/d of NLC which containing 1 g galohgor nutraceutical powder/ pieces or ORC (without galohgor nutraceutical powder), for 14 days intervention period since the first day of giving birth. The measurement of breast milk production was carried out by baby weighing method using SECA 334 digital baby scale (SECA, Hamburg, Germany). A high-performance liquid chromatography method was used to determine lactose concentrations in breast milk. Data were analyzed by parametric Independent T-test or the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U-test and adjusted analysis of covariance. @*Results@#NLC significantly increased (P<0.05) breast milk production, as shown by average breast milk volume of NLC compared to ORC, i.e., 557.0 (95% confidence interval [CI], 497.3–616.6) mL/d vs. 435.9 (95% CI, 382.3–489.6) mL/d. This result was supported by lactose concentration in breast milk of mothers who consumed NLC significantly higher (P<0.05), compared to ORC, i.e., 6.03% (95% CI, 5.66%–6.40%) vs. 5.18% (95% CI, 4.85%–5.51%). @*Conclusion@#NLC which containing galohgor nutraceutical can be recommended to increase breast milk volume and lactose concentration in the early postpartum period.
ABSTRACT
Intracranial hypotension [ICH] is a benign syndrome which is often under-diagnosed. It is characterized by orthostatic headache which is predominantly occipital. ICH is diagnosed in the presence of a typical history and characteristic imaging findings. Further confirmation by Lumbar Puncture to document low CSF pressure is necessary in some cases. Treatment is mainly conservative. However, surgical intervention might be required if conservative measures fail. In this report we present a case of 42 year old male patient who presented with symptoms of orthostatic occipital headache of three months duration and was subsequently diagnosed with Intracranial Hypotension based of characteristic MRI findings
ABSTRACT
Hypertension is a colossal problem experienced by one in three adults, leading to 1,000 deaths in a day that people need to be aware of various aspects regarding blood pressure. To determine the level of awareness about hypertension among entry year undergraduate heath science students in Ajman, UAE. A cross sectional study among students enrolled in first year, in the four academic programs, with the use of a validated, self-administered questionnaire on different domains of hypertension such as general knowledge, symptoms, complications, risk factors, treatment and management as well as sources of information. Each factor/statement was given a score of one if it was answered correctly and zero for a wrong answer. Out of a total score, a score of fifty percent and above was considered as good knowledge and a score less than fifty percent considered no knowledge. The data was analyzed by SPSS 20, Chi square and Fisher exact test was done. Out of 161 participants, 130 participants were =19 years where female accounted for 72.3%, and 82 participants were Non Arabs. Domain with highest level of awareness was treatment and management [99%], followed by general knowledge [95%], risk factors [85%], symptoms [80%], lastly complication [70%]. Some knowledge gaps were identified in the domains: general knowledge [not curable - 35.4%,classification-42.9%], symptoms [difficulty in breathing - 35.4%,epistaxis - 36.6%],complication [kidney - 40.4%],risk factors [coffee intake - 21.1%,smoking cessation - 21.7%,regular cell phone usage - 23.6%, lack of vitamin D -33.5%, male gender - 34.2%].Regarding treatment and management the importance of regular eye checkup was the least one known by the participants [65.8%]. Majority of the participants -74.5% - reported World Wide Web and internet as their source of information. Overall, no significant association was noted except for prior health related course and family history of hypertension. The study shows overall good level of awareness in all domains with some gaps noted in domains such as knowledge of definition of hypertension, symptoms, complication and risk factors, whereas knowledge on treatment and management was comparatively good. A larger study would enable health promotion activities tailored to the needs of this age group
