ABSTRACT

SUMMARYIn 1980, an experiment with Caroba (Jacaranda copaia (Aubl.) Dan) was placed in the Experimental Sation of Tropical Silviculture at INPA, Manaus for testing three different plant spacing (2,0 x 3,0 m; 3,0 x 4,0 m and 4,5 x 4,0m). in 1989, the results showed that the estimate of total survival of plants, comercial hight and volume were higher at the smaller spacing (2,0 x 3,0 m), under this condition, plants showed the greatest volume of utile wood, in addition to the higher number of living trees (80%) with a comercial heigh average of 11,8 m and aritmetic DBH average of 22, 7 cm. Fifth year after planting, in 1985 it was observed that in all the experiment a significant number of trees showed a chlorotic canopy, with falling leaves, as a consequence, an increase of dead trees was obsrved, perhaps because of soite nutritional constraint the occurred in this experiment.
