ABSTRACT

Danggui Sinitang is first recorded in the Treatise on Cold Damage written by ZHANG Zhongjing in the Han dynasty. It is composed of Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Cinnamomi Ramulus, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Asari Radix et Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Tetrapanacis Medulla, and Jujubae Fructus and serves as a classic formula for treating the syndrome of blood deficiency and cold reversal. This study systematically reviews the records of Danggui Sinitang in ancient Chinese medicine books of various dynasties and the modern clinical applications to probe into the composition, plant species, processing, dosage, decocting method, and indications of Danggui Sinitang, aiming to provide a reference for the development and clinical application of this classic formula. The review of the records showed that there were a variety of records of Danggui Sinitang with different composition, and the composition of this formula listed in the Treatise on Cold Damage has a significant impact on later generations and has been used by medical practitioners throughout history. Although the dosage of some drugs decreased during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the medical practitioners continued to use the original formula. In terms of processing, although there were slight changes in the processing of Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, and Tetrapanacis Medulla, the original processing method was inherited. In terms of indications, Danggui Sinitang was designed to treat cold reversal due to blood deficiency and dysentery. Furthermore, it was used to treat headache, convulsive disease, infantile convulsion, and private part adduction in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Nowadays, this formula is mostly used to treat diabetes peripheral neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea, Raynaud's disease and other diseases. In terms of precautions, ancient physicians believed that Danggui Sinitang should not be taken by pregnant women and should only be used for limb chills caused by blood deficiency and cold coagulation. For limb chills caused by other reasons, this formula should not be used indiscriminately. Modern research has not reported any serious adverse reactions related to this formula. Danggui Sinitang has a definite therapeutic effect. In subsequent research and development, quality control standards of Danggui Sinitang should be established while its safety is ensured, and the related preparations should be developed and applied.

ABSTRACT

Rabdosia serra(R.serra),an important component of Chinese herbal tea,has traditionally been used to treat hepatitis, jaundice, cholecystitis, and colitis. However, the chemical composition of R.serra and its effect against colitis remain unclear. In this study, the chemical composition of the water extract of R.serra was analyzed using ultra performance liquid chromatography coupled with a hybrid linear ion trap quadrupole-orbitrap mass spectrometer(UPLC-LTQ-Orbitrap-MS).A total of 46 compounds, comprising ent-kaurane diterpenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and steroids, were identified in the water extract of R.serra, and the extract could significantly alleviate dextran sulfate sodium salt-induced colitis by improving colon length, upregulating anti-inflammatory factors, downregulating proinflammatory fac-tors,and restoring the balance of T helper 17/T regulatory cells.R.serra also preserved intestinal barrier function by increasing the level of tight junction proteins(zonula occludens 1 and occludin)in mouse colonic tissue. In addition,R.serra modulated the gut microbiota composition by increasing bacterial richness and diversity, increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria(Muribaculaceae,Bacteroides,Lactobacillus, and Prevotellaceae_UCG-O01),and decreasing the abundance of pathogenic bacteria(Turi-cibacter,Eubacterium_fissicatena_group,and Eubacterium_xylanophilum_group).Gut microbiota depletion by antibiotics further confirmed that R.serra alleviated colitis in a microbiota-dependent manner.Overall, our findings provide chemical and biological evidence for the potential application of R.serra in the management of colitis.

ABSTRACT

AIM To establish an RP-HPLC method for the simultaneous content determination of five nucleosides in Houtoujun Tablets (mycelia of Hericium erinaceum).METHODS The analysis of aqueous extract of this drug was performed on a 26 ℃ thermostatic Zorbax SB-Aq C18 column (250 mm ×4.6 mm,5 μm),with the mobile phase comprising of methanol-0.1% phosphoric acid flowing at 0.5 mL/min in a gradient elution manner, and the detection wavelength was set at 260 nm.RESULTS Cytidine, adenine, uridine, adenosine and guanosine showed good linear relationships within the ranges of 0.007-0.169,0.005-0.115,0.032-0.797,0.032-0.792 and 0.004-0.103 μg,whose average recoveries (n =6) were 99.4% (RSD =2.0%),98.3% (RSD =1.8%),98.0% (RSD =2.8%),101.4% (RSD =1.9%) and 101.7% (RSD =1.2%),respectively.CONCLUSION The contents of five nucleosides in Houtoujun Tablets from different manufacturers exhibit obvious differences,to which we should pay attention.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to identify original plants of Xi-Huang-Cao (XHC) through DNA barcodes. The nu-cleotide sequence information of rbcL, psbA-trnH, matK and ITS2 regions were abstracted using standardized man-ners from 41 samples (including Rabdosia serra, R. lophanthoides and R. lophanthoides var. graciliflora). Sequencing efficiency of each marker was calculated. Species identification capability was tested on the basis of TaxonGap. The results showed that sequence success rates were 100% for rbcL, 90.2% for psbA-trnH, 87.8% for ITS2, and 70.7%for matK. Three markers (rbcL, psbA-trnH and ITS2) were competent for species discrimination (not for subspecies). It was concluded that rbcL can be the preferred barcode for XHC because of its convenience and efficacy.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To study the protective effects of Xiaoyan Lidan Tablet(Herba Andrographis,Herba Rabdosiae serrae,Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, etc) on acute hepatic injury in rats. METHODS: Acute hepatic injury was induced by intraperitoneal(ip) injection of carbon tetrachloride and D-galactosamine,respectively.The levels of ALT,AST,ALP,TBA,total bilirubin(T-Bil),total protein (TP) and albumin(ALB) in serum were analyzed. The body weight, liver weight, spleen weight and thymus weight of each rat were measured. The hepatic glycogen content was analyzed individually.Liver tissue pathology was observed. RESULTS: Xiayan Lidan Tablet can decrease ALT,AST,ALP,TBA and T-Bil in serum, reduce necrosis in pathological observation. CONCLUSION: Xiaoyan Lidan Tablet gives the protective effects to acute hepatic injury induced by CCl_4 and D-Gal in rats.

ABSTRACT

The development of the cochlear aqueduct and its aging change were investiga-ted in 234 temporal bones, ranging from 12-week-old embryo to adult by the lightmicroscope. The width of inner and outer opening, width and length of thecochlear aqueduct were parallel with the advance of fetal age.The length of thecochlear aqueduct at one year old was about the length of adult cochlear aqueduct. The diameter of the cochlear aqueduct at the child was wider than that of theadult. On the basis of morphology of the cochlear aqueduct and its characteristicof age,the developmental rule of the cochlear aqueduct, its function and clinicalsignificance were discussed.
