ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the effect of remind-to-move treatment on upper limb motor function, activities of daily living and participation in patients with subacute stroke. Methods From February,2016 to October,2017,45 patients with mild to medium upper limbs dysfunction after stroke were randomly assigned to control group(n=23)and experimental group(n=22).The control group accepted rou-tine occupational therapy, while the experimental group wore a wristwatch on the hemiplegic forearm to encour-age the predetermined training programs, for three weeks. They were measured with Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Up-per Extremity(FMA-UE),Function Independence Measurement(FIM),Motor Activity Log(MAL),and Stroke Impact Scale(SIS)before and after treatment. Results Both groups improved in part of the scores of three scales after treatment(P<0.05),and improved more in the experimental group than in the control group in scores of FMA-UE and FIM,and some sub-scores of MAL and SIS(t>1.183,P<0.05),with no significant difference in other indexes(P>0.05). Conclusion Remind-to-move treatment can promote the recovery of upper limb motor function, activities of daily living and participation in the patients with subacute stroke.
ABSTRACT
To investigate the application and effectiveness of vascular corrosion technique in preparing fetal cardiovascular cast models, 10 normal fetal heart specimens with other congenital disease (control group) and 18 specimens with severe congenital heart disease (case group) from induced abortions were enrolled in this study from March 2013 to June 2015 in our hospital. Cast models were prepared by injecting casting material into vascular lumen to demonstrate real geometries of fetal cardiovascular system. Casting effectiveness was analyzed in terms of local anatomic structures and different anatomical levels (including overall level, atrioventricular and great vascular system, left-sided and right-sided heart), as well as different trimesters of pregnancy. In our study, all specimens were successfully casted. Casting effectiveness analysis of local anatomic structures showed a mean score from 1.90±1.45 to 3.60±0.52, without significant differences between case and control groups in most local anatomic structures except left ventricle, which had a higher score in control group (P=0.027). Inter-group comparison of casting effectiveness in different anatomical levels showed no significant differences between the two groups. Intra-group comparison also revealed undifferentiated casting effectiveness between atrioventricular and great vascular system, or left-sided and right-sided heart in corresponding group. Third-trimester group had a significantly higher perfusion score in great vascular system than second-trimester group (P=0.046), while the other anatomical levels displayed no such difference. Vascular corrosion technique can be successfully used in fabrication of fetal cardiovascular cast model. It is also a reliable method to demonstrate three-dimensional anatomy of severe congenital heart disease and normal heart in fetus.

ABSTRACT
Objective To understand non-typhoid Salmonella in diarrhea patients from Guangdong province in order to timely discover the outbreaks caused by them as well as to grasp the serotypes, antibiotic resistance and pulse-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) types of those strains isolated from this surveillance program. Methods Salmonella strains from diarrhea patients were detected and all the positive strains were tested by serum agglutination, antibiotic susceptibility and PFGE. Results 71 nontyphoid Salmonella strains were isolated from 1128 stoop samples, with a positive rate of 6.29 %. All the strains were divided into 29 serotypes, with Salmonella serotype enteritidis and typhimurium showing the most common serotypes. Most of the strains were sensitive to cephalosporins and quinolones. The antibiotic resistance rates of S. typhimurium were higher than S. enteritidis and S. stanley. Other than S. enteritidis, all the serotype strains did not have the same type of PFGE. 17 S. enteritidis strains digested by Xba Ⅰ were divided to 8 PFGE types while the PFGE 4 type appeared the most common one. 12 S. enteritidis strains were typed again by Sfi Ⅰ and Not Ⅰ , and there were still 3 groups of strains showing the same PFGE pattern. Conclusion Most of the infection caused by non-typhoidal Salmonella was sporadic in Guangdong province in 2007. Cephalosporins and quinolones seemed the best in curing the infection of non-typhoidal Salmonella at the clinics.
ABSTRACT
Objective To study interleukin-1 receptor(IL-1R) and connexin(Cx36) gene expression following Mg 2+-free-induced seizures in cultured developing neuron. Methods Rat embryo cortical neurons cultured for 6 and 17 days were exposed to Mg 2+-free media to induce seizure. At different time after Mg 2+-free treatment, real-time RT-PCR was used to detect IL-1R and Cx36 mRNA expression. Results 1. IL-1R mRNA expression transiently decreased after Mg 2+-free treatment in neurons cultured for 6 and 17 days in vitro. Then the levels of IL-1R mRNA expression recovered in neurons cultured for 6 days, but IL-1R mRNA expression were increased in neurons cultured for 17 days compared with control group and the peak was at 24 hours. 2. In neurons cultured for 6 days in vitro, Cx36 mRNA expression increased after Mg 2+-free treatment compared with control group, the peak was at 24 hours. But in neurons cultured for 17 days in vitro, Cx36 mRNA expression decreased at 6 hours after Mg 2+-free treatment compared with control group, the peak was at 24 hours. Conclusions IL-1R mRNA and Cx36 mRNA expression following Mg 2+-free-induced seizures are different between the neurons cultured for 6 and 17 days in vitro. This is possibly related to the different neuron injury between 6 and 17 days in vitro following seizures.
ABSTRACT
<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study cortical neuron injury following recurrent epileptiform discharges induced by magnesium-free treatment in vitro.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Cultured embryo cortical neurons were exposed to magnesium-free media for 3 h, then they were returned to regular media containing normal level magnesium. At different time after Mg(2+)-free treatment, trypan blue staining and determination of LDH activity were used to determine the cell viability, flow cytometry was applied to measure neuronal apoptosis, and MTT assay to study metabolic rate.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) Neuronal morphology on light microscopy following Mg(2+)-free treatment showed that there were no prominent alterations. (2) At different time (6, 12, 72 h) after Mg(2+)-free treatment, neuronal viability by trypan blue staining and LDH activity showed modest changes compared with time-matched control in different culture days (6, 12, 17 d) (P > 0.05). (3) Cell apoptosis increased mildly at different time after Mg(2+)-free treatment in neurons cultured for different days, but the increase was not significant (P > 0.05). (4) Metabolic rate decreased at 6 h after Mg(2+)-free treatment (P < 0.05) in neurons cultured for 6 d, and was 86.4% of that of the control; while the rate at 24 h in neurons cultured for 12 d and 17 d also decreased (P < 0.05), being 78.7% and 70.9%, respectively, of that of the control.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>These findings demonstrated that the injury occurred on cultured cortical neurons caused by magnesium-free-treatment-induced recurrent epileptiform discharges was mainly functional and relatively mature neurons displayed more severe and much later mitochondrial function impairment than immature neurons.</p>
