ABSTRACT

Objective:To summarize the early and intermediate outcomes of second-grade false-lumen endovascular occlusive repair (FLEVOR) for aortic dissection.Methods:The clinical data of 12 patients undergoing second-grade FLEVOR after proximal repair of aortic dissection at our center from Aug 2016 to Aug 2019 was retrospectively analyzed.Results:The mean age was (51.3±14.9) years old. Four patients received open repair due to Stanford type A aortic dissection previously, the other 8 patients underwent thoracic endovascular aortic repair for Stanford type B aortic dissection. The time to the proximal repair varied from 3 months to 16 years. The technical success rate was 100%. Visceral ischemia, early spinal cord ischemia and in-hospital death did not occur perioperatively. The mean follow-up time was 16.7 months. Persistent false lumen perfusion was found in 3 patients, complete thrombosis of false lumen was achieved in the other 8 patients. The maximum diameter of abdominal aorta decreased in 8 (72.7%) patients.Conclusions:FLEVOR could block the blood flow from the false lumen and induce the thrombosis of false lumen, which promotes the aortic remodeling. Meanwhile, FLEVOR could protect the blood supply of spinal cord and viscera, and reduce the risk of type Ⅱ endoleaks.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of intestinal protozoan infections among rural children in Henan Province. Methods A total of 104 survey sites were sampled from 35 counties (cities) in Henan Province using the stratified cluster sampling method to investigate the prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections among rural children from 2014 to 2015. The trophozoites and cysts of intestinal protozoa were identified using the iodine staining method and the physiological saline direct smear method (one detection for one stool sample). The prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections was compared among rural children with different characteristics, and the factors affecting intestinal protozoan infections among rural children were identified. Results The overall prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections was 0.60% (40/6 771) among rural children in Henan Province from 2014 to 2015. There were 7 species of intestinal protozoa identified, and there was no species-specific prevalence (χ2 = 37.732, P = 0.000). No significant differences were found in prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections among rural children in terms of gender (χ2 = 1.793, P = 0.181), age (χ2 = 1.443, P = 0.486), occupation (χ2 = 0.219, P = 0.896) or ecological region (χ2 = 1.700, P = 0.637). In addition, terrain (χ2 = 2.311, P = 0.510), economic level (χ2 = 4.322, P = 0.229), source of drinking water (χ2 = 0.731, P = 0.393), eating raw vegetables (χ2 = 1.134, P = 0.287) and deworming (χ2 = 1.089, P = 0.297) had no remarkable effects on the prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections among rural children in Henan Province; however, the prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections varied significantly among rural children living in regions with different coverage of non-harmless toilets (χ2 = 10.050, P = 0.018). Conclusion The prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections is low among rural children in Henan Province.

ABSTRACT

Angina pectoris (AP) is the most common symptom of cardiovascular diseases, which seriously affects the quality of life in cardiovascular patients. Kuanxiong (KX) Aerosol (), a compound preparation that consists of 5 traditional Chinese medicines: Herba Asari , Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum, Lignum Santali Albi, Fructus Piperis Longi, and Borneolum, has been used in the treatment of AP for many years, exhibiting a significant curative effect and less side-effect. For the convenience and comprehensive understanding of KX Aerosol, this review systematically summarizes evidence on KX Aerosol in the treatment of AP including the pharmacological effects of its composition, clinical research, animal experiments, and network pharmacology prediction. Meanwhile, we highlight the research limitation of KX Aerosol at present. This review may guide the clinical application of KX Aerosol and further provide a reference for the research of AP.

BACKGROUND@#Although percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) had become widely employed therapeutic procedure for coronary artery disease, stent restenosis limited the benefits of this revascularization and the question how to prevent such events remained unresolved. While numerous empirical observations suggested Tongguan Capsules (), a patented Chinese Medicine, could decrease frequency and duration of angina pectoris attacks, evidence supporting its efficacy on restenosis remained inadequate.@*OBJECTIVE@#This trial was designed to determine whether Tongguan Capsules would reduce restenosis rate in patients after successful stent implantation.@*METHODS@#Approximately 400 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary stent deployment were enrolled and randomized to control group or Tongguan Capsules (4.5 g/d) for 3 months. All patients received standard anti-platelet, anti-coagulation and lipid-decreasing treatments, concurrently. The primary clinical endpoint was the 12-month incidence of the major adverse cardiovascular events (defined as cardiac death, myocardial infarction, and recurrence of symptoms requiring additional revascularization). The angiographic end point was restenosis rate at 6 months.@*CONCLUSION@#This study would provide important evidence for the use of Tongguan Capsules in patients after stent implantation in combination with routine therapies, which may significantly reduce incidence of the restenosis so as to potentially improve the clinical outcomes. OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the significance of low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 and 6 (LRP5/6) in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in the pathogenesis and prognosis of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).@*METHODS@#A total of 43 children who were newly diagnosed and achieved complete remission after remission induction therapy were enrolled. The children before treatment were included in incipient group, and after treatment when achieved complete remission included in remission group. A total of 39 children with immune thrombocytopenia were enrolled in control group. Three milliliter bone marrow samples were collected from above-mentioned each group. QRT-PCR was used to determine the mRNA expression of LRP5 and LRP6 in blood mononuclear cells of bone marrow. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of LRP5 and LRP6. According to the protein expression levels of LRP5 and LRP6, the children were divided into low-expression group and high-expression group, and the clinical biological characteristics were compared between these two groups. Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method.@*RESULTS@#Both mRNA and protein expression levels of LRP5 and 6 were upregulated in the incipient group compared with the control and remission group (P<0.05). The mRNA and protein expressions of LRP5 and LRP6 in the high-risk group were higher than those in the medium-risk group (P<0.05), it is the same as in the medium-risk group than the low-risk group (P<0.05). The mRNA and protein expressions of LRP5 and 6 positively correlated with risk degree in the incipient group (r@*CONCLUSION@#The high expression of LRP5/6 may be one of the pathogenesis of childhood ALL, and the degree of LRP5/6 increase may be related to the risk level.

ABSTRACT

Microalgae is an easy-to-obtain natural biological material with many varieties and abundant natural reserves. Microalgae are rich in natural fluorescein, which can be used as a contrast agent for fluorescence imaging and photoacoustic imaging for medical imaging. With its active surface, microalgae can effectively adsorb functional molecules, metal elements, etc., and have good application prospects in the field of drug delivery. Microalgae can generate oxygen through photosynthesis to increase local oxygen concentration, reverse local hypoxia to enhance the efficacy of hypoxic tumors and promote wound healing. In addition, microalgae have good biocompatibility, and different administration methods have no obvious toxicity. This paper reviews the research progress on the biomedical application of microalgae in bioimaging, drug delivery, hypoxic tumor treatment, wound healing.

OBJECTIVE@#To study the clinical application of the modified nutritional risk screening tool and nutrition assessment in pediatric patients in China, and to provide a theoretical basis for establishing a standardized nutritional management process for pediatric patients.@*METHODS@#A retrospective analysis was performed for the nutritional risk screening and nutrition assessment data of 16 249 hospitalized children. According to the degree of nutritional risk, the children were divided into a high nutritional risk group with 588 children, a moderate nutritional risk group with 4 330 children, and a non-nutritional risk group with 11 331 children. Nutrition assessment results were compared between groups. The composition of nutritional risk screening scores and the impact of nutritional risk screening on the rate of nutrition support therapy were analyzed.@*RESULTS@#The incidence rate of nutritional risk was 30.27% (4 918/16 249), and the incidence rates of malnutrition and overnutrition were 27.37% (4 448/16 249) and 11.29% (1 834/16 249), respectively. Nutrition assessment results were significantly correlated with nutritional risk (≥ 5 years old:@*CONCLUSIONS@#There is a high incidence rate of nutritional risk in hospitalized children. The use of the modified pediatric nutritional risk screening tool can promote the implementation of standardized nutritional management.

ABSTRACT

We investigated the inhibitory effect and mechanism of action of bruceantin (BCT) on the proliferation, invasion and migration of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. The cytotoxic activity of BCT was measured by MTT assay; a colony forming assay, wound healing assay, and a Transwell assay were used to investigate the anti-proliferative, anti-migration, and anti-invasion effects, respectively; immunoblotting and RT-qPCR were used to detect the expression of related proteins, miRNA, and mRNA, respectively, that were involved in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Two gene prediction websites were used to predict the downstream target gene of miRNA. Our results show that BCT has a potent cytotoxic effect on NSCLC cell lines, with a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of BCT against H1299, PC-9, and A549 of 0.12 ± 0.02, 0.31 ± 0.20, and 2.07 ± 0.70 μmol·L-1, respectively. When H1299 cells were treated with 0.03, 0.15, and 0.75 μmol·L-1 BCT for 24 h, the proliferation, migration, and invasive ability were inhibited in a concentration-dependent manner. It is worth noting that the expression level of miRNAs related to cell migration and invasion, such as miR-29a-3p, miR-21-3p, miR-183-5p, and miR-34b-5p increased with the concentration of BCT, especially for miR-29a-3p. Using the two gene prediction websites, we predict that integrin β1 (ITGB1) may be the target gene of miR-29a-3p; immunoblot results further show that a variety of proteins related to cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, such as various proteins of the integrin family, β-catenin, p-Src, and vascular endothelial growth factor, all decreased in a concentration-dependent manner, among which the reduction of ITGB1 protein was the most obvious. RT-qPCR results showed that there was no change in ITGB1 mRNA expression. We speculate that BCT might inhibit the expression of ITGB1 protein by up-regulating miR-29a-3p independent of its mRNA level. The in-depth mechanism needs to be further explored. This study suggests that BCT has the potential for further development in the treatment of NSCLC.

Based on the application of AI scenarios in typical cases, the research analyzes the practice and effectiveness of AI in epidemic surveillance, clinical diagnose, public health management and other related scientific research. Besides, combined with the current situation of development, some suggestions are put forward in order to better play the role of artificial intelligence in the public health emergency system in China.

Vertical bone insufficiency in the maxillary posterior teeth is a common clinical situation. At present, the bone insufficiency in the maxillary posterior teeth is mainly overcome by bone grafting through maxillary sinus floor elevation. Compared with traditional axial implantation, tilted implantation can better avoid bone grafting, reduce complications, shorten the treatment cycle, reduce the treatment cost for patients, and gradually be promoted in clinical settings. This article reviews the concept, biomechanics, clinical evaluation, and digital trend of tilted implants of maxillary posterior teeth.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the application value of ultrasound-guided stellate ganglion block in perioperative period of thyroid cancer patients.Methods:From March 2018 to November 2019, in the Second People′s Hospital of Lu′an, Anhui Province, the clinical data of 80 thyroid cancer patients who had underwent open radical operation were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, ultrasound-guided stellate ganglion block was performed in 40 cases (observation group), while ultrasound-guided stellate ganglion block was not performed in 40 cases (control group). The pain digital score (NRS) 6, 12 and 24 h after operation was evaluated. The levels of inflammatory factors, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) 24 h after operation were detected. The indexes of cellular immune function (CD 4+, CD 8+ and CD 4+/CD 8+) 24 h after operation, serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) before operation and 48 h after operation were detected. The postoperative complication was observed. Results:The NRS 6, 12 and 24 h after operation in observation group were significantly lower than that in control group: (3.6 ± 0.3) scores vs. (4.3 ± 0.4) scores, (2.1 ± 0.2) scores vs. (3.5 ± 0.3) scores and (2.6 ± 0.2) scores vs. (3.6 ± 0.3) scores, and there was statistical difference ( P<0.01). The TNF-α, hs-CRP and IL-6 24 h after operation in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group: (85.9 ± 6.8) μg/L vs. (263.5 ± 13.7) μg/L, (6.1 ± 1.6) mg/L vs. (12.3 ± 2.5) mg/L and (236.9 ± 8.6) μg/L vs. (388.9 ± 15.5) μg/L, the CD 4+, CD 8+ and CD 4+/CD 8+ were significantly higher than those in control group: 0.036 ± 0.013 vs. 0.024 ± 0.010, 0.034 ± 0.013 vs. 0.026 ± 0.009 and 1.9 ± 0.1 vs. 1.4 ± 0.1, and there were statistical differences ( P<0.01). There was no statistical difference in PTH before operation between 2 groups ( P>0.05); the PTH 48 h after operation in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group: (29.8 ± 3.9) μg/L vs. (18.7 ± 2.0) μg/L, and there was statistical difference ( P<0.01). The incidence of postoperative complication in observation group was significantly lower than those in control group: 5.0% (2/40) vs. 25.0% (10/40), and there was statistical difference ( χ2 = 4.804, P<0.05). Conclusions:Ultrasound-guided right stellate ganglion block can effectively relieve postoperative pain, reduce inflammatory reaction, improve immunity, promote the recovery of parathyroid function, and reduce the incidence of postoperative complication in patients with thyroid cancer.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and side effects of amnion stent implanted in lacrimal duct for the lacrimal duct obstruction diseases (LDOD).Methods:A randomized controlled clinical trial was adopted.Seventy-two eyes of 72 patients with LDOD treated in Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital from June 2014 to January 2015 was randomized into the experiment group and the control group with amnion stent or silicone tube retrogradely implanted according to grouping in accordance with block randomization with 36 eyes in each group.All patients were performed irrigation of lacrimal passage at 3 and 6 months postoperatively to compare the patency rate of lacrimal duct and side effects between the two groups.This study followed the Declaration of Helsinki.Written informed consent was obtained from each subject prior to entering the study cohort.The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital (No.2014-002).Results:The patency rate of lacrimal duct was 91.7%(33/36) and 80.6%(29/36) at 3 months postoperatively in the experimental and control group, respectively.Although the difference was obvious, there was no statistical significance ( P=0.307). The patency rate of lacrimal duct was 88.9%(32/36) and 75.0%(27/36) at 6 months postoperatively in the experimental and control groups, respectively.Similarly, the difference was obvious, however there was no statistical significance ( P=0.220). At 3 months and 6 months postoperatively, the incidence of epiphora in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group, it was significantly different ( Z=2.729, P=0.006), and there was no significant difference at 6 months postoperatively ( Z=1.921, P=0.055). At 6 months follow-up period, the attack rate of side effects, such as dacryon congestion and exudation, was 2.8%(1/36) and 13.9%(5/36) in the experiment and control groups, respectively, however, the difference was no statistical significance ( P=0.199). Conclusions:The implantation of amnion stent in lacrimal duct for LDOD is effective, and the patency rate of lacrimal duct is not lower than that of the implantation of silicone tube in the lacrimal duct.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the preoperative frailty of inpatient elderly surgery patients and explore its risk factors.Methods:A sample of 200 inpatient elderly surgery patients in a tertiary Class A hospital in Shandong Province from February to May 2019 were selected and surveyed using general condition questionnaire, elderly comprehensive assessment questionnaire and FRAIL scale.Results:Among the participants, 75 were identified with frailty and the prevalence of frailty were 37.5%. The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that aging, low income, decreased activity of daily living, depression, malnutrition, cognitive impairment, poor self-rated health was the risk factor of preoperative frailty in inpatient elderly surgery patients( P<0.05). Conclusions:The incidence of preoperative frailty in inpatient elderly surgery patients is relatively high, so it is necessary to establish the preoperative frailty assessment and intervention mechanism for inpatient elderly surgery patients from multiple fields and dimensions.

Objective:To investigate the current situation of the implementation of breastfeeding in the state of mother infant separation in 75 hospitals in China, based on the evidence-based guidelines for breastfeeding of hospitalized newborns (hereinafter referred to as the guidelines).Methods:Totally 75 hospitals in China were selected using the convenience sampling method to distribute questionnaires to compare the implementation of breastfeeding after separation of mother and infant.Results:All the hospitals selected in this survey were not satisfied with the overall implementation of the guide, but the general hospital's interpretation and learning of the guide was better than that of the specialized hospital, with a statistically significant difference ( χ2 value was 5.616, P <0.05); the breastfeeding rate was lower after the separation of mother and infant, and only 18.7% (14/75) of the units with the feeding rate ≥ 75%; they provided support related to breast milk collection, kangaroo nursing and professional professionals in the aspect of quality management, specialized hospital was better than general hospital, the difference was statistically significant ( χ2 values were 9.450, 10.516, 6.436, P<0.05); 62.1% (18/29) of the specialized hospitals have multi-disciplinary cooperation teams to promote the separation of mother and infant breastfeeding, while only 34.8% (16/46) of the comprehensive hospitals have multi-disciplinary cooperation teams , the difference was statistically significant ( χ2 value was 7.254, P<0.05). Conclusion:The evidence-based guidelines for breastfeeding of hospitalized newborns in China mostly refer to the relevant international standards. There are some difficulties in the implementation of the guidelines due to the large differences in the economy and policies of various regions in China. In order to improve the success rate of breastfeeding separation between mother and infant, China should establish a national standard that is in line with the national conditions, so as to facilitate the reference implementation of hospitals at all levels.

Objective:To understand the relationship between joint bleeding and joint disease in hemophilia children, and to provide a theoretical basis for clinical treatment and prognosis.Methods:The patients with severe hemophilia A between 1 and 7 years old and with relevant nodal bleeding records were selected.All the patients admitted in Beijing Children′s Hospital, Capital Medical University, and Chengdu New Century Women′s and Children′s Hospital since June 2016 to January 2017.All the joint bleeding of each child was taken as the study joint, and the joint bleeding was collected during the last 3 months.The joints were assessed by using ultrasound, X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and Hemophilia Joint Health Score (HJHS) scoring systems.The correlation analysis was conducted between the joint bleeding, ultrasound, X-ray, MRI and HJHS scores.The correlation analysis was conducted for baseline ultrasound, X-ray, MRI and HJHS scores.Results:(1) There were 18 patients enrolled.The mean age was (5.6±1.8) years old.There were 30 joints bleeding in the observation period in total, with the annul median joint bleeding times of 4 (4-16 times), and the annul median target joint bleeding times of 8 (4-16 times). (2) Joint bleeding times of was correlated with ultrasound and X-ray evaluation ( r=0.390, P=0.033; r=0.517, P=0.008), and not correlated with HJHS or MRI(all P>0.05). (3) There was significantly positive correlation among ultrasound, X-ray, HJHS and MRI [ r=0.815(ultrasound vs.X-ray), r=0.510(ultrasound vs.HJHS), r=0.812(ultrasound vs.MRI), r=0.666(X-ray vs.HJHS), r=0.911(X-ray vs.MRI), r=0.781(HJHS vs.MRI), all P<0.01]. (4) There was no correlation between times and assessment for joints whose ultrasound and /or MRI in joints with abnormal ultrasound and /or MRI evaluation( P>0.05). Conclusions:The results of joint bleeding and joint evaluation are inconsistent.Joint bleeding can not truly reflect the situation of joint diseases.The assessment of hemophilia should include comprehensive evaluation of joint structure, function, activity ability and other aspects to guide the treatment of haemophi-lia children.

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the mechanisms of anti-apoptosis and immune evasion in drug-resistant leukemia cells mediated by STAT3, further to explore the possible mechanism of leukemia relapse caused by minimal residual.@*METHODS@#Drug-resistance leukemia cell line was established by transfecting pcDNA3.1-STAT3 into K562 cells (K562/STAT3). The expression of STAT3, BAX and NKG2D ligands (MICA and ULBP1) in K562/-cells, K562/STAT3 were detected by Western blot and/or RQ-PCR. Cells apoptosis and the killing effect of NK cells on leukemia cells were detected by flow cytometry.@*RESULTS@#The expression of the total STAT3, STAT3 phosphorylation in K562/STAT3 was significantly increased, and P-gp mRNA expression was increased also significantly (P<0.005). In K562/STAT3 cells, the expression of pro-apoptotic BAX (P=0.005) was significantly lower, and the number of apoptotic cells (P=0.002) induced by adriamycin was significantly decreased as compared with those in K562/- cells. After K562/STAT3 cells were treated by STAT3 inhibitor (SH-4-54), the expression of BAX mRNA (P=0.017) was significantly higher and the number of apoptotic cells (P=0.005) was significantly increased. The MICA and ULBP1 mRNA expression in K562/STAT3 cells was significantly lower than that in K562/- cells, and also for MICA and ULBP1 protein (MICA and ULPB1 mRNA: P<0.0001, MICA protein: P=0.001, ULPB1 protein: P=0.022). After K562/STAT3 cells were treated with STAT3 inhibitor (SH-4-54), the expression of MICA mRNA and protein was increased (mRNA: P=0.001, protein: P=0.002), but ULBP1 mRNA and protein showed no significantly change (mRNA: P=0.137, protein: P=0.1905). The cytotoxicity of NK cells to K562/STAT3 cells was susceptible as compared with K562/- (P=0.002), but the cytotoxicity of K562/STAT3 cells to NK cell could be recovered by STAT3 inhibitor (P=0.006).@*CONCLUSION@#STAT3 phosphorylation can inhibits cell apoptosis and promotes cell immune escape. STAT3 inhibitors can promote the apoptosis of leukemia cells and increase their sensitivity to NK cells.

ABSTRACT

Clinical trial management system is independently developed by our hospital, which basically realized the whole process management and data collection of clinical trials. Based on the platform, the functional architecture of data remote monitoring and auditing was established. By desensitizing and encrypting of data, the project and subject hologram were visualized to facilitate to review of data. The data remote monitoring and auditing cloud platform adopts the B/S architecture pattern. Users register to apply for an account through the cloud platform, and access to the account via HTTPS security protocol. The authorized users were able to view the relevant items online to ensure the secure data transmission and easy operating. The electronic management of data is the direction of future efforts. By compliance with laws and regulations, the remote monitoring/auditing can be realized, and the data security and personal privacy can be ensured with the application of information technology. In this paper, the feasibility of remote monitoring/auditing mode is explored, specific technical schemes and system functions are suggested, and the realization scenarios are conceived in case of major public health emergencies.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#The Shexiang Baoxin Pill (MUSKARDIA) has been used for treating coronary artery disease (CAD) and angina for more than 30 years in China. Nevertheless, methodologically sound trials on the use of MUSKARDIA in CAD patients are scarce. The aim of the study is to determine the effects of MUSKARDIA as an add-on to optimal medical therapy (OMT) in patients with stable CAD.@*METHODS@#A total of 2674 participants with stable CAD from 97 hospitals in China were randomized 1:1 to a MUSKARDIA or placebo group for 24 months. Both groups received OMT according to local tertiary hospital protocols. The primary outcome was the occurrence of a major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE), defined as a composite of cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI), or non-fatal stroke. Secondary outcomes included all-cause mortality, non-fatal MI, non-fatal stroke, hospitalization for unstable angina or heart failure, peripheral revascularization, angina stability and angina frequency.@*RESULTS@#In all, 99.7% of the patients were treated with aspirin and 93.0% with statin. After 2 years of treatment, the occurrence of MACEs was reduced by 26.9% in the MUSKARDIA group (MUSKARDIA: 1.9% vs. placebo: 2.6%; odds ratio = 0.80; 95% confidence interval: 0.45-1.07; P  = 0.2869). Angina frequency was significantly reduced in the MUSKARDIA group at 18 months (P = 0.0362). Other secondary endpoints were similar between the two groups. The rates of adverse events were also similar between the two groups (MUSKARDIA: 17.7% vs. placebo: 17.4%, P = 0.8785).@*CONCLUSIONS@#As an add-on to OMT, MUSKARDIA is safe and significantly reduces angina frequency in patients with stable CAD. Moreover, the use of MUSKARDIA is associated with a trend toward reduced MACEs in patients with stable CAD. @#Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of implementation of a neurological sub-specialized nursing module in critically ill neurological patients. Methods: We selected 22 neurological nurses from our hospital in Nanchang, China as study subjects. The outcome of 100 neurological patients were documented and evaluated. The period from December 2017 to March 2018 was the preimplementation period, in which the conventional nursing was implemented in 50 patients. The time from April 2018 to July 2018 was the post-implementation period, in which the sub-specialized nursing module was implemented with another 50 patients. We conducted assessment and evaluation consisting of doctor satisfaction, nursing complications (aspiration, diarrhea, pressure sores, and ventilatorassociated pneumonia), and the comprehensive ability of nurses in the pre- and post-implementation periods. Results: The total comprehensive ability score of the nurses after implementing the nursing module was higher than that before the implementation (P < 0.05). The satisfaction rate of doctors after implementation (95.45%) was also higher (68.18%) (P < 0.05), and the incidences of nursing complications (aspiration, diarrhea, pressure sores, and ventilator-associated pneumonia) among patients were lower after implementing the nursing module (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The implementation of a sub-specialized nursing module in the care of patients with critically ill neurological diseases can improve the comprehensive ability of nurses and the satisfaction rate of doctors as well as reducing the incidence of nursing-related complications.
