ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effects of a one-way tracheostomy speaking valve based on neuromuscular electrical stimulation on aspiration in patients with dysphagia after tracheotomy for cerebral hemorrhage. Methods:From January to December, 2018, 37 patients with dysphagia after tracheotomy for cerebral hemorrhage were randomly divided into control group (n = 21) and experimental group (n = 16). Both groups accepted neuromuscular electrical stimulation, while the experimental group was trained to use one-way tracheostomy speaking valve additionally, for three weeks. They were assessed with Functional Oral Food Intake Scale (FOIS) and Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) before and after treatment. Results:The scores of FOIS and PAS improved in both groups after treatment (|Z| > 3.544, P < 0.001), and was better in the experimental group than in the control group (|Z| > 2.094, P < 0.05). Conclusion:One-way tracheostomy speaking valve training based on neuromuscular electrical stimulation could improve swallowing and reduce aspiration of patients with dysphagia after tracheotomy.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effect of acupoint sticking on clinical symptoms and life quality in patients with bronchial asthma.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Multicenter randomized double-blind clinical trial was done, one hundred and eighty-eight cases were divided into a medication acupoint sticking group (125 cases) and a placebo group (63 cases). Dazhui (GV 14), Feishu (BL 13), Tiantu (CV 22), etc. were selected in both groups. The medication cakes were made of grinding pepper, brassica alba seeds, asarum, etc. into fine powder mixed with ginger oil and ginger juice, applied on acupoints in the acupoint sticking group. While another compound cakes made of powder of red rice, black rice, maize mixed with small amount of ginger juice, were used in the placebo group. Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire(AQLQ), symptom scores during the day and night, scores of self effect, and the value of lung function were observed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The value of daily behavior and environmental factors of AQLQ, total scores of AQLQ, daytime symptoms and scores of self effect in the medication acupoint sticking group, were significantly improved compared to those of placebo group (all P<0.05). The lung function of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and the percentage of forced expiratory volume in one second in predicted value (FEV1/FVC) had no significant diffrence between two groups (both P>0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The acupoint sticking therapy can significantly improve clinical symptoms of patients with bronchial asthma, and can improve life quality of the patients.</p>

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the effective approach for the treatment of detrusor underactivity. Methods98 patients with detrusor underactivity were randomly divided into electrotherapy group (electroacupuncture, interference current stimulation, n=32), medicine group (n=32) and electrotherapy-medicine group (n=34). The patients were assessed with examination of urodynamics and clinical parameters before and after treatment. ResultsThe detrusor strength were stronger after treatment in all the 3 groups (P<0.001), but electrotherapy-medicine group was more stronger than the other 2 groups (P<0.01). The cure rate in the 3 groups were 68.75%, 59.38% and 88.23% respectively, the patients in electrotherapy-medicine group gained significantly better results than the other 2 groups (x2=9.976, P<0.01). The difference of cure rate between the electrotherapy group and the medicine group was not significant (P>0.05). ConclusionElectric stimulation therapy combined with medicine is an effective intervention for treatment of detrusor underactivity and is better than electric stimulation therapy or drugs only.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo evaluated the effect of swallowing training and acupuncture on dysphagia in nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy.MethodsThirty-eight post-radiotherapeutic nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients were divided into 2 groups: comprehensive group (n=20) were treated with swallowing training and acupuncture therapy, acupuncture group (n=18) were treated with acupuncture only. The patients were assessed with water-swallow test and videofluoroscopy (VFS) before and after treatment.ResultsBoth groups improved their score of water-swallow test after treatment (P<0.01), but the scores of comprehensive group were better than that of acupuncture group(P<0.05).Under the VFS, the cure rate was 70.0% or 38.9% respectively(P=0.089). ConclusionSwallowing training can improve the swallow ability of bulbar palsy patients.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To study the balance function of normal persons and to explore the differences in gender and age groups. Methods Forty parameters of 445 normal persons(16-70 years old, 205 of male, 240 of female ) were detected by static posturography while they were in seat, double foot standing with opening and closing eyes, and single foot standing with opening eyes. The results of male and female, standing with opening eyes and closing eyes, left foot standing and right foot standing were compared. Results Everyone's center of gravity was distributed in A zone while they were in seat. At standing with opening eyes and closing eyes, the center of gravity in A zone were in 429 subjects( 96.4%) and 436 subjects( 98.0%). Most parameters showed significant difference between the women and the men, opening eyes and closing eyes, left foot standing and right foot standing, different age groups. The stability in closing eyes was better than that in opening eyes, right foot standing was better than left foot standing. Most values of 20—39 years old group were the best, 70—79 years old group were the worst. Conclusion Static posturography can evaluate human balance function objectively and quantitatively. The stability is related to age and gender. To judge the balance function, the subject's age and sex must be taken into account.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the disease categories(DCs),admitting departments(ADs),length of stay(LS),and hospital costs(HCs)of the in-patients in the rehabilitation department of a general hospital. Methods A total of 1 246 in-patients admitted to the authors'rehabilitation department over the period from 2004 to 2005 were analyzed retrospectively with regard to their age,DCs,ADs,LS and HCs by means of the Hospital Case Enquiry and Statistical System of Guangdong Province. Results The average age of the in-patients in 2005 was 61.2?13.7 years, and their average number of DCs was 5.52?1.54.Common first diagnoses included cerebral in- farct(40.4%),cerebral hemorrhage(12.6%),cervical spondylosis(5.7%),traumatic brain injury(5.1%), and fracture(3.7%).Rehabilitation(52.3%,),neurology(26.4%),neurosurgery(7.9%)and orthopedics (4.1%)were the most common initial admitting departments. The average LS was 39.1 d,and the LS of patients with rehabilitation, neurology, orthopedics and neurosurgery as their initial admitting department was 23.7 d,44.4 d, 60.2 d and 62.4 d,respectively. The average LS of those with their first diagnosis as cerebral infarct, cervical spon- dylosis, traumatic brain injury and fracture was 34.2 d,21.3 d,64.2 d and 63.5 d,respectively. The average HCs were 36 168 yuan RMB,with the cost of medicine the highest(47.6%),followed by costs for various therapies. The costs for cervical spodylosis were the lowest, while those for traumatic brain injury were the highest. Conclusion The rehabilitation in-patients usually had multiple DCs,needed lengthy stays and incurred high hospital and medicine costs. It is suggested that early rehabilitation interventions should be implemented before the patients are transferred to the rehabilitation ward so as to reduce HCs and LS.
