ABSTRACT

The CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system has been widely used in basic research, gene therapy and genetic engineering due to its high efficiency, fast speed and convenience. Meanwhile, the discovery of novel CRISPR/Cas systems in the microbial community also accelerated the emergence of novel gene editing tools. CRISPR/Cpf1 is the second type (V type) CRISPR system that can edit mammalian genome. Compared with the CRISPR/Cas9, CRISPR/Cpf1 can use 5'T-PAM rich region to increase the genome coverage, and has many advantages, such as sticky end of cleavage site and less homologous recombination repair. Here we constructed three CRISPR/Cpf1 (AsCpf1, FnCpf1 and LbCpf1) expression vectors in silkworm cells. We selected a highly conserved BmHSP60 gene and an ATPase family BmATAD3A gene to design the target gRNA, and constructed gHSP60-266 and gATAD3A-346 knockout vectors. The efficiency for editing the target genes BmATAD3A and BmHSP60 by AsCpf1, FnCpf1 and LbCpf1 were analyzed by T7E1 analysis and T-clone sequencing. Moreover, the effects of target gene knockout by different gene editing systems on the protein translation of BmHSP60 and BmATAD3A were analyzed by Western blotting. We demonstrate the CRISPR/Cpf1 gene editing system developed in this study could effectively edit the silkworm genome, thus providing a novel method for silkworm gene function research, genetic engineering and genetic breeding.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the clinical value of the geriatric potentially inappropriate medication(PIM)evaluation system in elderly inpatients.Methods:As a prospective cohort study, 203 elderly inpatients with polypharmacy were randomly divided into the control group and experimental group.Geriatric PIM evaluation system(based on the criteria for judging potential inappropriate drug use in Chinese elderly 2017 edition)on wechat platform was applied to patients of experimental group.During the 6 months, the number of elderly syndromes, types of drugs, the days in hospitalization, readmission rates and all-cause mortality were compared between two groups.Results:The age of 203 elderly inpatients ranged from 60 to 94(77.30±10.34)years, including 121 males and 82 females.The morbidity proportion of top five diseases were 69.95%(142/203)in cerebral infarction(non-acute phase), 62.07%(126/203)in hypertension, 24.14%(49/203)in coronary heart disease, 9.85%(20/203)in atrial fibrillation, and 6.40%(13/203)in cardiac insufficiency.The 97.53%(198/203)of elderly hospitalized patients had at least one senile syndrome, the average was 4.3±2.0.Insomnia, fall and frailty accounted for 32.87%(15/198), 28.45%(56/198)and 13.66%(27/198)respectively.Compared with the control group, the average length of stay in hospital in the experimental group significantly decreased[(16.38±4.29) vs.(21.32±6.10)d, t=2.438、 P=0.025], the number of senile syndrome, the score of fall, weakness and the re-admission rate were also decreased significantly(3.11±2.14 vs.4.32±1.50, t=0.854、 P=0.032; 6.19±1.35 vs.8.61±3.22, t=4.078、 P=0.044; 3.94±1.92 vs.5.65±1.34, t=2.843、 P=0.038; 9.81%(10/102) vs.1.98%(2/101), χ2=4.772、 P=0.029), and the frequency of PIM was significantly different between two groups(417.36±49.21 vs.210.25±38.23, t=2.136、 P=0.034). Conclusions:After making the drug adjustment on the elderly inpatients with multiple drugs, PIM evaluation system for the elderly are able to reduce the incidence of geriatric syndrome, shorten the length of stay in hospital, improve the rational use of drugs, and enhance the quality of life of the elderly patients.

ABSTRACT

The clinical data of a child with bronchial Dieulafoy disease treated in Wuhan Children′s Hospital Affiliated to Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was analyzed retrospectively.The patient was a 9-month-old boy, who was admitted to hospital due to " intermittent hematemesis vomiting blood for 6 hours" . Chest CT suggested ground-glass opacity in both lungs.Electronic bronchoscopy showed that the neoplasm bulged into the lumen at the opening of the right inferior lobar bronchus, and fresh blood oozed from the basal segment of the neoplasm during the operation.Bronchial arteriography and transcatheter bronchial artery embolization were performed due to recurrent hemoptysis, during which the patient was diagnosed with bronchial arterial vascular malformation and finally diagnosed with bronchial Dieulafoy disease after consulting the relevant literatures.The disease is infrequent and characterized by rupture hemorrhage of bronchial submucosal malformed artery, the etiology and pathogenesis of which are still unclear, and it may be related to congenital vascular malformation in children.Bronchoscopy for hemoptysis of unknown cause in children should be performed with caution.If small and smooth protruded nodular lesions are seen under the bronchoscope, the bronchial Dieulafoy disease should be considered, and the lesions should not be touched too much or subjected to biopsy blindly.Fatal massive hemorrhage can be avoided by bronchial arteriography and bronchial artery embolization.

ABSTRACT

Thoracic aortic dissection (TAD) without familial clustering or syndromic features is known as sporadic TAD (STAD). So far, the genetic basis of STAD remains unknown. Whole exome sequencing was performed in 223 STAD patients and 414 healthy controls from the Chinese Han population (N = 637). OBJECTIVE@#To explore the role of small nuclear noncoding RNA 7SK in embryonic stem cell (ESCs) proliferation and the value of 7SK as a target for early diagnosis and treatment for primordial dwarfism (PD).@*METHODS@#ESC line R1 was transfected with the CRISPR/Cas9 system, and sequencing of the PCR product and glycerol gradient analysis were performed to identify novel 7SK deletion mutations. A lentivirus system was used to knock down cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) in clones with 7SK deletion mutations, and the effect of CDK9 knockdown on the protein level of cell division cycle 6 (CDC6) was analyzed with Western blotting.@*RESULTS@#We identified a novel deletion mutation of 7SK at 128-179 nt in the ESCs, which resulted in deficiency of cell proliferation. 7SK truncation at 128-179 nt significantly reduced the protein expressions of La-related protein 7 (LARP7) and CDC6.@*CONCLUSIONS@#7SK truncation at 128-179 nt can significantly impair proliferation of ESCs by downregulating CDC6. 7SK is a key regulator of proliferation and mediates the growth of ESCs through a mechanism dependent on CDK9 activity, suggesting the value of 7SK truncation at 128-179 nt as a potential target for early diagnosis and treatment of PD.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the differences of energy spectrum CT between small cell lung cancer(SCLC)with mediastinal lymph node metastasis and mediastinal sarcoidosis.Methods Twenty-five SCLC patients with mediastinal lymph node metastasis(SCLC group)and 26 patients with mediastinal sarcoidosis(sarcoidosis group)confirmed by bronchoscopy and biopsy in Tangshan People's Hospital from January 2018 to June 2019 were selected as the research objects.The CT value,iodine concentration,water concentration and energy spectrum curve slope under different single energy levels were compared between SCLC group and sarcoidosis group.Results The single-energy CT values of 40-80 keV segments in the arterial phase of the SCLC group were significantly higher than those in the sarcoidosis group(all P 0.05).The single-energy CT values of 40-90 keV segments in venous phase of the SCLC group were significantly higher than those of the sarcoidosis group(all P 0.05).The concentrations of iodine in the arterial phase and venous phase of the SCLC group were(11.56±4.06)μg/cm

ABSTRACT

The liver plays an important role in the metabolism, degradation, and excretion of thyroid hormones in the normal physiological state; however, when liver injuries occur, there is a significance increase in hypothyroidism, and most patients have no obvious clinical symptoms or signs. The article summarizes the chronic liver diseases caused by various etiologies and the change in thyroid function in different stages of disease and points out that the reduction in the level of thyroid hormone has an important value in predicting the risk, condition, and prognosis of chronic liver diseases. Studies have shown that some patients with chronic liver diseases can improve the condition and prognosis by adjusting thyroid function. In addition, a series of genetic disorders or dysfunctions caused by abnormal thyroid metabolism may become new therapeutic targets for certain chronic liver diseases, which needs to be confirmed by further studies.

ABSTRACT

Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) is a well known biomarker for targeted immunotherapy. However, the relationship between the expression of PD-L1 and the immunotherapy efficacy is not always consistent in different cases. Some patients who are PD-L1 negative still can benefit from immunosuppressive therapy, while some non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with PD-L1 positive, even strongly positive, can not. Therefore, PD-L1 is not a completely reliable immunotherapy biomarker. Tumor mutation burden (TMB) estimated by whole exome sequencing (WES) is a biomarker recently approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In this paper, we briefly reviewed the factors that result in the variaty of TMB in order to improve the reliability of the TMB and help clinicians to select patients who can get benefit from immunotherapy more wisely.

ABSTRACT

Coptidis Rhizoma, as a bulk medicinal material, is in great demand in clinical practice. Its quality is uneven in the market due to the mixture of genuine, counterfeit and adulterants. Therefore, it is particularly important to establish a quality control system for Coptidis Rhizoma. Based on the concept of Chinese medicine quality marker(Q-marker), the potential quality markers of Coptidis Rhizoma were analyzed and predicted from the perspective of chemistry and pharmacology. The sources of the Q-markers of Coptidis Rhizoma were identified by literature retrieval. The potential Q-markers were then screened through the visualization of the "components-targets-pathways" network. High performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) was used to establish a multi-indicator qualitative and quantitative control method featuring fingerprints for 10 batches of Coptidis Rhizoma. A supervised mode of orthogonality partial least squares method-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA) was used to screen the main marker components that caused differences between groups. The literature review results showed that the alkaloids were the main source of Coptidis Rhizoma Q-markers.The fingerprints of 13 common peaks were successfully established, and berberine, palmatine, berberine and epiberberine were selected as Q-markers of Coptidis Rhizoma, and their contents were determined.Based on the concept of the Q-marker of traditional Chinese medicine, the four components can be selected as the Q-marker of Coptidis Rhizoma after comprehensive consideration. The results of this study are not only conducive to the quality evaluation of Coptidis Rhizoma on the market, but also provide a reference for the overall quality control of Coptidis Rhizoma and lay foundation for the future exploration of the mechanism of Coptidis Rhizoma.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#The Chinese appropriate use criteria (AUC) for coronary revascularization was released in 2016 to improve the use of coronary revascularization. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the appropriateness of coronary revascularization based on the Chinese AUC and 1-year outcomes in stable coronary artery disease (CAD) patients.@*METHODS@#We conducted a prospective, multi-center cohort study of stable CAD patients with coronary lesion stenosis ≥50%. After the classification of appropriateness based on Chinese AUC, patients were categorized into the coronary revascularization group or the medical therapy group based on treatment received. The primary outcome was a composite of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, repeated revascularization, and ischemic symptoms with hospital admission.@*RESULTS@#From August 2016 to August 2017, 6085 patients were consecutively enrolled. Coronary revascularization was associated with a lower adjusted hazard of 1-year major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs; hazard ratio [HR]: 0.62; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.45-0.86; P = 0.004) than medical therapy in patients with appropriate indications (n = 1617). No significant benefit in 1-year MACCEs was found after revascularization compared to after medical therapy in patients with uncertain indications (n = 2658, HR: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.52-1.25; P = 0.338) and inappropriate indications (n = 1810, HR: 0.80; 95% CI: 0.51-1.23; P = 0.308).@*CONCLUSIONS@#In patients with appropriate indications according to Chinese AUC, coronary revascularization was associated with significantly lower risk of MACCEs at 1 year. No benefit was found in coronary revascularization in patients with inappropriate indications. Abstract  Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a hematological malignancy that seriously threatens the lives of patients. It was found that there are abnormal classic Wnt pathway, that is, Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways in CML cells, moreover, Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is involved in the growth and proliferation of CML cells, and closely relates with the self-renewal ability of CML leukemic stem cells. This review summarizes the recent studies on the relationship between Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and CML, and the researches on the targeting inhibition of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in CML treatment, thus to provide new ideas for the treatment of CML.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effect of constant temperature blankets on intravascular hypothermia for severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI). Methods:A total of 112 inpatients with sTBI from January, 2013 to December, 2018 were reviewed. They were divided into control group (n = 58) and observation group (n = 54) according to whether a self-warming blanket was used. They were assessed with Bedside Shivering Assessment Scale (BSAS). Their dosages of anti-shivering medicine, coagulation and intracranial pressure were recorded. The scores of Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) and the mortality one, six and twelve months after discharge were observed. Results:The incidence and severity were less in the observation group than in the control group (χ2 = 16.212, P < 0.01). The dosage of anti-shivering medicine was less in the observation group than in the control group (t > 1.269, P < 0.05). The hypercoagulation relieved significantly six hours after hypothermia in the observation group, and it was stable twelve hours after hypothermia. For the control group, the hypercoagulation relieved significantly twelve hours after hypothermia, and it was stable 24 hours after hypothermia. The intracranial pressure decreased more in the observation group than in the control group. The GOSE score and the mortality were less in the observation group than in the control group (t > 1.168, P < 0.05) one, six and twelve months after discharge. Conclusion:Application of self-warming blankets in intravascular hypothermia for sTBI may relieve shivering, hypercoagulation and intracranial pressure, to improve the outcome of patients.

Purpose@#This study was performed to establish and validate a nomogram for predicting the overall survival in children with neuroblastoma. @*Methods@#The latest clinical data of neuroblastoma in Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was extracted from 2000 to 2016. The cases included were randomly divided into training and validation cohorts. The survival curves were drawn with a Kaplan-Meier estimator to investigate the influences of certain single factors on overall survival. Also, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression was applied to further select the prognostic variables for neuroblastoma. Additionally, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves were used to evaluate the accuracy of the nomogram. @*Results@#In total, 1,262 patients were collected and 8 independent prognostic factors were achieved, including patients’ age, sex, race, tumor grade, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, tumor site, and tumor size. Then we constructed a nomogram by using the data of the training cohort with 886 cases. Subsequently, the nomogram was validated internally and externally with 886 and 376 cases, respectively. The internal validation revealed that the area under the curves (AUC) of ROC curves of 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival were 0.69, 0.78, and 0.81, respectively. Accordingly, the external validation also showed that the AUC of 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival were all ≥0.69. Both methods of validation demonstrated that the predictive calibration curves were consistent with standard curves. @*Conclusion@#The nomogram possess the potential to be a new tool in predicting the survival rate of neuroblastoma patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the correlation between degree of multifidus muscle atrophy and severity in patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis.@*Methods@#A total of 103 patients with lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis were retrospectively analyzed, including 22 male patients (21.4%) and 81 female patients (78.6%). There were 2 cases of L2 spondylolisthesis, 10 cases of L3 spondylolisthesis, 81 cases of L4 spondylolisthesis, and 10 cases of L5 spondylolisthesis. The average age was 58.55 ±0.88 years old. Each patient underwent lumbar lateral X-ray, and lumbar MRI, and the imaging data were collected. MRI images were obtained to measure and calculatethe ratio of the fat-free multifidus muscle cross sectional area to total multifidus muscle cross sectional area (LCSA/TCSA) in slipped segments and non-slipped segments. Lumbar lateral radiographs were obtained to measure and calculate slipped ratio. All data were analyzed by SPSS 23.0. Paired-samples T test was carried out to investigate whether there were LCSA/TCSA differences between in slipped segments and non-slipped segments. The correlation between LCSA/TCSA in slipped segments and slipped ratio was analyzed by using Pearson correlation coefficient system. P=0.000 was considered statistically significant.@*Results@#The degree of multifidus muscle atrophy (FCSA/TCSA) in the upper non-spondylolisthesis segments and the multifid muscle atrophy (FCSA/TCSA) in the degenerative spondylolisthesis segments (t=-12.618, P=0.000). there was significant difference between them. The degree of multifidus muscle atrophy (FCSA/TCSA) of degenerative spondylolisthesis was correlated with the spondylolisthesis ratio, and the correlation coefficient was -0.425. There was a high negative correlation between FCSA/TCSA ratio and spondylolisthesis ratio of degenerative spondylolisthesis.@*Conclusion@#The degree of multifidus muscle atrophy in degenerative spondylolisthesis is more serious than that in the upper non-spondylolisthesis segments, and there is a positive correlation between the degree of multifidus muscle atrophy in degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis and the degree of lumbar spondylolisthesis in degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis patients.

Objective@#To investigate short-term efficacy of laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilus lymphadenectomy and left epigastrium mesogastric excision for advanced proximal gastric cancer based on mesangial anatomy.@*Methods@#A case series study was carried out. Case inclusion criteria: (1) patient was confirmed as gastric adenocarcinoma by gastroscopic biopsy before operation; (2) locally advanced gastric cancer was confirmed by abdominal CT before operation; (3) no distant metastases such as liver, lung, and posterior peritoneal lymph nodes, and no tumor directly invading the pancreas, spleen, liver, and colon were verified by superficial lymph node ultrasound, chest and abdominal CT before operation;(4) total gastrectomy or proximal gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy were performed, and R0 resection was confirmed by postoperative pathology. Exclusion criteria: (1) intraperitoneal dissemination or distant metastasis was found during laparoscopic exploration; (2) No.10 lymph nodes were significantly enlarged or fused into clusters; (3) pathological diagnostic data were incomplete. According to above criteria, the clinicopathological data of 36 patients who underwent laparoscopic spleen-preserving No.10 lymphadenectomy and left epigastrium mesogastric excision based on interspace anatomy for advanced proximal gastric cancer in The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2017 to March 2018 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. The intraoperative conditions, postoperative recovery and complications of patients were analyzed.@*Results@#In 36 patients, the mean age was (59.8±8.0) years, the mean BMI was (23.9±3.5) kg/m2, and 8 cases (22.2%) received preoperative chemotherapy. All the patients underwent successfully the laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilus lymphadenectomy and left epigastrium mesogastric excision. In the examination of postoperative resected specimens, it was found that the mesangial boundary of the upper and posterior part of the stomach was smooth, indicating the efficiency of complete mesangial resection. No case was converted to open operation. The mean time of lymph node dissection and mesangial resection was (34.2±11.4) minutes. The mean blood loss during operation was (44.8±21.3) ml. The mean number of lymph node dissection per patient was 45.6±17.6. The mean number of No. 11p+11d lymph node dissection was 3.1± 2.8 per patient, and 7 patients were pathologically positive with metastasis rate of 19.4% (7/36). The mean number of No.10 lymph node dissection was 2.9±2.5 per patient, and 2 patients were pathologically positive with metastasis rate of 5.6% (2/36). The time to postoperative flatus was (3.8±0.6) days, time to removal of nasogastric was (1.9±0.7) days, time to the first intake of fluid was (3.0±0.4) days, time to removal of drainage tube was (6.0±1.2) days. Postoperative mean hospital stay was (12.8±4.0) days. One case (2.7%) developed pulmonary embolism and 1 case (2.7%) developed gastroplegia after operation. The morbidity of postoperative complication was 5.6% (2/36). No operative site infection, postoperative bleeding and death within postoperative 30-day were observed. All the 36 patients were followed up and the median follow-up was 18 months (12-28 months). Seven patients died of tumor relapse and metastasis (3 cases died within postoperative 1 year) and another 1 case developed colonic cancer 17 months after operation.@*Conclusion@#Laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilus lymphadenectomy and left epigastrium mesogastric excision for advanced proximal gastric cancer based on mesangial anatomy is safe and feasible.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To develop and validate an high performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS/MS) method for simultaneously qualitative and quantitative determination of 13 major bioactive components (ferulic acid, costunolide, baicalin, paeoniflorin, tetrahydropalmatine, rutecarpine, berberine, palmatine, evodiamine, naringin, hesperidin, saikosaponin a, and saikosaponin d) in Jiawei Zuojin Pills (JZP). Methods: The chromatographic separation was performed on a Thermo Syncronis C18 column (100 mm × 4.6 mm, 3.0 μm) with a gradient elution of methanol and 0.02 mol/L ammonium acetate in water at a flow rate of 0.35 mL/min, and the injection volume was 10 μL. The 13 major bioactive components were detected using an electrospray ionization source in ESI+ and ESI- ionization mode, quantified by multiple reaction monitor (MRM) scanning at the same time. Results: The linear ranges of ferulic acid, costunolide, baicalin, paeoniflorin, tetrahydropalmatine, rutecarpine, berberine, palmatine, evodiamine, naringin, hesperidin, saikosaponin a and saikosaponin d were 2-80 μg/mL (r = 0.999 2), 0.5-20.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 1), 3.5-140.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 8), 1-40 μg/mL (r = 0.999 2), 0.3-12.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 1), 1-40 μg/mL (r = 0.999 2), 3-120 μg/mL (r = 0.999 7), 2.5-100.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 5), 0.5-20.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 3), 0.5-20.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 1), 1-40 μg/mL (r = 0.999 1), 0.3-12.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 2), 0.3-12.0 μg/mL (r = 0.999 2), and the average recoveries were 99.5% (RSD = 4.11%), 98.9% (RSD = 4.88%), 100.2% (RSD = 1.08%), 99.2% (RSD = 3.23%), 99.5% (RSD = 4.13%), 99.7% (RSD = 3.23%), 98.6% (RSD = 2.78%), 99.9% (RSD = 3.12%), 101.3% (RSD = 4.53%), 98.7% (RSD = 3.43%), 99.8% (RSD = 3.58%), 97.9% (RSD = 5.22%), and 101.3% (RSD = 5.13%), respectively. The contents of 12 batches of the 13 major bioactive components were 0.324-0.383, 0.051-0.072, 3.225-3.466, 0.154-0.198, 0.015-0.062, 0.144-0.199, 2.145-2.982, 0.441-0.953, 0.032-0.099, 0.062-0.089, 0.111-0.178, 0.012-0.065, 0.011-0.069 mg/g, respectively. Conclusion: The developed method is simple, specific, and sensitive, and it can be applied for the determination of 13 major bioactive components and the quality control of JZP.

ABSTRACT

Gut microbiota constitute a complicated but manifold ecosystem, in which specific symbiotic relationships are formed among various bacteria. To maintain a steady state, the gastrointestinal tract and the liver form a close anatomical and functional two-way, interconnected network through the portal circulation. "Gut-liver axis" plays a key role in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. Accumulating evidence indicates that gut microbiota can influence the liver pathophysiology directly or indirectly via a variety of signal pathways. In a pathological state where an ecological imbalance occurs at the compositional and functional levels, gut microbes would interact with the host immune system and other type of cells to cause liver steatosis, inflammation and fibrosis, which in turn give rise to the development of such liver diseases as alcoholic liver disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and acute liver failure, to name a few. Studies have shown that microorganisms, such as prebiotics and probiotics, can improve the prognosis of certain diseases, which open a new era of treating liver diseases with bacteria. There are many unknowns and hidden values in the gut microbiome. To explore the pathophysiological mechanism of various complex diseases and develop scientific and effective clinical treatment strategies, efforts should be made to obtain insights into how certain intestinal microbiota participates in the occurrence and progression of liver diseases. As the connection between gut microbiota and liver diseases at both the acute and chronic phases was not elaborated in previously published review articles, herein we discuss the association between gut microbiota and both acute and chronic liver injury. The anatomical structure of the liver enables it to form a close network with the gut microbiota, which is an important mediator in the regulation of the hepatic physiological and pathological functions.
