ABSTRACT

As the main type of lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a common cancer which is characterized by low 5-year survival rate and worse prognosis. Nowadays, some studies show that the low survival rate and worse prognosis are due to the resistance to radiotherapy caused by circRNA. Therefore, to find out the relationship between circRNA and radiotherapy resistance of NSCLC was imoprtant. According to research the relevant literatures, the relationship between circRNA and radiotherapy resistance of NSCLC was explored. CircRNA plays an important role in the invasion, metastasis, proliferation and treatment resistance of NSCLC. The radiation resistance of tumor cells induced by circRNA has become a crucial problem in radiotherapy. CircRNA plays an important role in the radiotherapy resistance of NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, increasing evidence has shown that hyperthermia is safe, effective and causes low toxicity. Hyperthermia can exert synergistic effect with other treatments, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It has become an important adjuvant anti-tumor treatment secondary to surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and biological treatment. Hyperthermia can improve the efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy by directly inhibiting tumor cells and heat-induced radiosensitizing effect. Hence, hyperthermia is gradually applied in the multimodality treatment of tumors. In this article, we intend to review the research progress on the application of tumor hyperthermia in conventional radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and new biomaterials.

ABSTRACT

To compare the changes of serum osteocalcin (OC), interleukin-18 (IL-18) in patients with different glucose tolerance and to explore their relationship to carotid atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: According to the result of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), 140 research subjects were divided into 3 groups: Normal control group, n=50, Pre-diabetes group, n=30 and T2DM group, n=60 which included in 2 subgroups:Normal carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) subgroup, n=26 and Carotid IMT thickening subgroup, n=34. Carotid IMT, serum OC, IL-18 and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting glucose, OGTT 2-hour blood glucose (2hPG), TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, body mass index (BMI), insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) and insulin cell function index (HOMA-β) were measured in all subjects. Pearson correlation and multi liner regression model were conducted to analyze the relevant parameters. Results: From Normal control to Pre-diabetes to T2DM groups, serum OC was decreased and IL-18 was increased gradually, all P<0.05. OC was negatively related to HbA1c (r=-0.426), fasting glucose (r=-0.582), 2hPG (r=-0.489), HOMA-IR (r=-0.456), TC (r=-0.451) and carotid IMT (r=-0.559), all P<0.05; while positively related to HOMA-β (r=0.439), P<0.05. IL-18 was positively related to BMI (r=0.395), HbA1c (r=0.693), fasting glucose (r=0.880), 2hPG (r=0.715), HOMA-IR (r=0.667), TC (r=0.734), TG (r=0.326), LDL-C (r=0.471) and carotid IMT (r=0.857), all P<0.05; while negatively related to HOMA-β (r=-0.678), P<0.05. In T2DM group, carotid IMT was positively related to IL-18 (r=0.817), fasting glucose (r=0.415), HOMA-IR (r=0.356), TC (r=0.396) and TG (r=0.362), all P<0.05; while negatively related to OC (r=-0.588), P<0.05. Multi liner regression analysis indicated that IL-18, OC, TC and fasting glucose were the independent impact factors for carotid IMT (regression coefficients were 0.013, -0.011, 0.044 and 0.044 respectively), P<0.05. Conclusion: Serum OC and IL-18 had been involved in glucolipid metabolism and closely related to the occurrence and development of carotid atherosclerosis in T2DM patients.

ABSTRACT

Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM) refers to the abnormalities in cardiac structure and function in patients with liver cirrhosis. The pathogenesis of CCM involves the apoptosis of cardiomyocytes, impaired β-receptors, and increased levels of cardiodepressant factors such as nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, endocannabinoids, bacterial endotoxins, and inflammatory mediators. At present, there are no unified diagnostic criteria for CCM, and a clinical diagnosis can be made based on clinical manifestation, plasma brain natriuretic peptide, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, electrocardiographic findings, ultrasound findings, and the results of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. The treatment of CCM involves controlling liver cirrhosis and protecting the myocardium, and the best therapeutic method is liver transplantation at the right time.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of Tiaozhi Decoction for the treatment of coronary heart disease induced stable angina complicated with hyperlipemia, and to observe its effect on serum inflammatory factors. Results One hundred qualified patients were evenly randomized into treatment group and control group. Both groups were given conventional western medical treatment with reference to Guide for Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Stable Angina, and additionally, the control group was given oral use of Simvastatin and the treatment group was given Tiaozhi Decoction orally. The treatment of the two groups covered 8 weeks. Before and after treatment, blood lipid levels of total cholesterol ( TC) , triglyceride ( TG) , low-density lipoprotein cholesterol ( LDL-C) , high- density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDL-C) , apolipoprotein A (ApoA) and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) were observed. The frequency of angina pectoris attack and the dosage of Nitroglycerin Tablets per week in both groups were recorded during the treatment. Therapeutic effect on lowering blood lipid and on improving electrocardiogram was evaluated after treatment. Serum levels of hypersensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), homocysteic acid (Hcy), adiponectin (APN), and oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) were detected before and after treatment. Results(1) The results of Ridit analysis showed that the treatment group had better therapeutic effect on lowering blood lipid and on improving electrocardiogram than the control group ( P<0.05) . ( 2) After treatment, TG, HDL-C, ApoB and ApoA levels were much improved in the treatment group compared with those in the control group (P<0.01) . ( 3) The frequency of angina pectoris attack and the dosage of Nitroglycerin Tablets per week were reduced in the treatment group compared with those in the control group (P<0.01) . (4) After treatment, the treatment group had lower hs-CRP, IL-6, Hcy and ox-LDL levels, and higher APN level than the control group (P<0.01) . Conclusion Tiaozhi Decoction is effective for the treatment of coronary heart disease induced stable angina complicated with hyperlipemia through improving lipid metabolism and reducing angina pectoris attack, and the mechanism may be related with the regulation of inflammatory factors.

ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the main cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for about 80% of lung cancer cases, but only 25%-30% of initially diagnosed patients have the option of radical surgery because of the lack of effective measures for early diagnosis. For locally advanced and advanced NSCLC, radiotherapy alone or comprehensive treatment with chemoradiotherapy is the main treatment method; however, the curative effect is unsatisfactory. Recently, increasing evidence sug-gests that targeted drugs, such as epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), combined with radiotherapy/chemoradiotherapy represent a promising treatment modality for NSCLC. This review will discuss the research status of EGFR-TKIs and radiotherapy for locally advanced and advanced NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

The results of different interventions administered in 118 cases with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) for 3 years were investigated. The rates of transformation of IFG to diabetes mellitus in metformin treatment groups and rosiglitazone treatment groups were significantly lower than that in life style intervention group. This study suggested that metformin or rosiglitazone treatment could effectively reduce transformation of IFG to diabetes as compared with life style intervention.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between the CT value and injury of ultrastructure in posttraumatic acute diffuse brain swelling(PADBS). Methods The change of CT value of brain tissue was analyzed at posttrauma and preoperation in 9 patients, in combination with the ultrastructure in brain parenchyma in 36 specimen taken from operations. The relationship between the descend of CT value and ultrastructure injury was analysed. Results The CT value of brain in preoperation was lower than it in posttrauma first scanning(2.5~4.3 HU).The capillary distention and stenosis and the diffuse edema in pericapillary and intercellular were observed under transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The nucleolus of neuronal cells displaced to membrane or disappeard. Chromation agglutionation, nuclear membrane circuity, perinuclear diffuse lipid drops and blankspace were detected. The mitochondrion swelling, mitochondrial crest blurring or effacement, rough endoplasmic reticulum distension and its’ granules detachmen were also seen under TEM. Axolemma edema, microfilaments and microtubules derangement in axis-cylinder were found too. The similar phenomena existed in astrocyte. Conclusion The descent of CT value in PADBS was relevant to the aggravation of vasogenic cerebral edema, cytotoxic cerebral edema and ultrastructure injury in brain parenchyma.
