ABSTRACT

Presently, tumor has become an important factor threatening human health, and how to cure tumor effectively is still one of the most important problems in the modern medical field. Mongolian medicine has a long history, and is an important component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with distinctive national characteristics. It has been gradually formed and developed by absorbing Tibetan medicine,Indian medical theory and TCM. It has the advantages of a low toxicity, diverse structures and effect in modulating immune responses, with a important value and application perspectives. This paper focused on literatures from China National Knowledge Infrastructure,WanFang and Pubmed databases in recent years, with Mongolian medicine,anti-tumor and mechanism of action as the key words. The relevant literatures were collected, and the anti-tumor mechanisms of Mongolian medicinal in inhibiting cell proliferation, affecting cell cycle, inducing apoptosis, suppressing tumor invasion and metastasis, controlling angiogenesis and regulating immune status were summarized, in the hope to provide a reference for prevention and treatment of tumors with Mongolian medicine. The survey results showed that the study methods for Mongolian medicine at this stage were mostly simple, with a low overall level and based on in vitro cell level. However, the antitumor mechanism of Mongolian medicine compounds was not deeply studied. The material basis and mechanism of Mongolian medicine shall be further studied by modern medicine and bioscience techniques. Long-term goals and plans shall be established to form their own characteristics and advantages.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To examine increases in average height among Chinese children and adolescents.@*Methods@#The data were obtained from the China Health and Nutrition Survey conducted during the period 1989-2015. A stratified multistage cluster sampling method was utilized to select participants aged 2-22 years in each province. Linear regression was used to examine the effects of age, birth cohort, and survey period on height.@*Results@#A total of 15,227 males and 13,737 females were included in the final analysis. Age (A) showed a continuous effect on height. The average heights of the investigated groups increased continuously during the investigation period. By 2015, the average height of the overall group increased by 7.87 cm compared to the average height during the 1989 survey. Moreover, birth year (cohort, C) also had a stable effect on height. Using the height of individuals born in or before 1975 as a reference, the average height of each birth cohort increased in comparison to the previous birth cohort.@*Conclusions@#The height of Chinese children and adolescents was affected by age, period, and cohort effects, and this effect is governed by certain rules. The age-period-cohort model can be used to analyze the trends of children's and adolescent's heights. The findings provide a scientific basis for the formulation of children's and adolescents' growth and development policies in China.

ABSTRACT

Most of lichens are formed by Ascomycota, less than 1% are lichenized Basidiomycota. The flora investigation of lichenized Ascomycota of South Korea has been well studied in the past three decades; however, prior to this study, none of basidiolichens was discovered. During the recent excursion, an unexpected clavarioid basidiolichen, Sulzbacheromyces sinensis was collected. Morphology and ecology has been recorded in detail. DNA was extracted, and ITS, 18S, 28S nuclear rDNA were generated. In order to further confirm the systematic position of the Korean specimens, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analysis including all the species of the order Lepidostromatales were conducted based on the ITS. As a result, the phylogenetic tree of the order Lepidostromatales was reconstructed, which differed from the previous studies. The inferred phylogenetic tree showed that species of Sulzbacheromyces in three different continents (Asia, South Africa and South America) were separated into three clades with support. In this study, the species worldwide distribution map of Lepidostromatales was illustrated, and S. sinensis had a widest distribution range (paleotropical extend to the Sino-Japanese) than other species (paleotropical or neotropical). Prior to this study, the range of distribution, southernmost and northernmost points and the fruiting time of S. sinensis were recorded, and the genus Sulzbacheromyces was firstly reported from Korean peninsula and Philippines.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between fasting C-peptide (F-CP) and serum uric acid (SUA) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

METHODSA total of 347 hospitalized patients with T2DM were stratified according to F-CP level to analyze the impact of increased F-CP levels on SUA level and the incidence of hyperuricemia (HUA). The patients with an elevated SUA level (>420 µmol/L) and a normal SUA level (≤420 µmol/L) were compared for general data, fasting C-peptide and other clinical indexes. Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation of SUA level with F-CP levels and other parameters. The risk factors of elevated SUA were analyzed by binary logistic regression, multiple regression analysis and hierarchical interaction analysis. The ROC curve was used to analyze the independent risk factors of elevated SUA and determine the corresponding cut-off values.

RESULTSCompared with those with a normal SUA level, patients with elevated SUA had higher body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio, F-CP, postprandial 2hC peptide (2hP-CP), triglyceride (TG), homocysteine (HCY), serum creatinine (SCr) level (P<0.05), and a greater percentage of drinking (44.8% vs 32.6%, P=0.006), but had significantly lowered levels of HbA1c, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (P<0.05). SUA was found to be positively correlated with F-CP, 2hP-CP, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, diastolic blood pressure, TG, HCY, SCr, smoking and drinking (P<0.05), and was negatively correlated with gender, age, age of disease onset, HbA1c, HDL and eGFR (P<0.05). SUA level and the incidence of hyperuricemia increasea significantly with F-CP level (P<0.05). F-CP was identified as an independent risk factor for elevated SUA, and gender did not affect the relationship between F-CP and SUA. ROC curve analysis showed that a F-CP level >1.260 ng/mL was associated with a significantly increased risk of hyperuricemia in T2DM patients.

CONCLUSIONF-CP is closely related with SUA and may be an independent risk factor of elevated SUA in patients with T2DM.

ABSTRACT

A specific and selective UPLC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of isoflavonoids(3'-hydroxy puerarin, puerarin, daidzin, daidzein, genistin, genistein), flavonoids (baicalin, baicalein, wogonoside, wogonin, liquiritin)and alkaloids(berberine, jatrorrhizine, palmatine)(14 bioactive compounds) of Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD) in plasma. The pharmacokinetics characteristics of 14 bioactive compounds were study after oral administration of GQD at a single dose to rats. Prednisolone was used as the internal standard of liquiritin, and naringin was used as the internal standard of the other thirteen analytes. After the plasma samples were processed by precipitation protein method, the constituents and internal standards were gradient eluted by using a Zorbax SB-18 column with a mobile phase of acetonitrile(A) and 0.1% formic acid aqueous solution(B) using a gradient elution of 0-2.5 min, 15%-30% A; 2.5-3.5 min, 30%-35% A; 3.5-5.0 min, 35%-40% A; 5.0-9.0 min, 40%-60% A; 9.0-11.0 min, 60%-15% A, and the flow rate was 0.4 mL·min⁻¹. The auto sampler was conditioned at 25 °C and the sample injection volume was 5 μL. A mass spectrometry was applied with electrospray ionization (ESI) ion source in the positive and negative ion multiple reaction monitoring(MRM) mode. All pharmacokinetic parameters were processed by non-compartmental analysis with DAS 3.2.2 software. The results showed that the linear correlation coefficient of the 14 components were all greater than 0.99, indicating that the method had good linearity in their respective concentration ranges. Post-preparative stability (25 °C, 24 h), short-term stability(25 °C, 12 h), long-term stability (-20 °C, 7 d), and freeze and thaw stability (3-cycles) of the fourteen constituents were examined to evaluate the stability of methodology. The results of the inner and inter-day relative standard deviations were both less than 10%, indicating legitimate precise and accuracy to the requirement of biological sample analysis. The assay method is proved to be sensitive, accurate and convenient. It can be applied to the pharmacokinetic study of the fourteen analytes. The kinetic parameters of the related drugs were calculated according to the blood concentration of the 14 components. The results showed that the MRT0-t of the isoflavones and flavonoids was 7.5-11.8 h, T1/2z were mainly in 11.0-29.7 h, and the AUC0-t flavonoids were larger than the isoflavones. The MRT0-t of alkaloids were between 4.3-7.2 h, T1/2z were 1.0-5.0 h, AUC0-t were less than flavonoids and isoflavones. The results suggest that flavonoids and isoflavones have a high concentration of blood and long time of action, which are beneficial to the anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. The concentration of alkaloids in the body is low and the time of action is short, and it may play its bacteriostasis in the intestinal tract.

ABSTRACT

A new species and 2 new records of lichen genus Buellia were discovered from Chuja-do Island in Jeju Province during a recent floristic survey: B. chujana X. Y. Wang, S. Y. Kondr., L. Lőkös & J.-S. Hur sp. nov., B. halonia (Ach.) Tuck., and B. mamillana (Tuck.) W. A. Weber. The new species is characterized by a brown, areolate thallus, the presence of perlatolic acid, and a saxicolous habitat. Together with previously recorded species, 10 Buellia species were confirmed from Jeju-do Island. Among these species, 3 growing in the exposed rocky area contained xanthone (yellowish lichen thallus, UV + orange), indicating that production of xanthone in this genus might be a defense strategy against the harm of UV light. Although the genus Buellia has been thoroughly studied in Korea before, novel species have been discovered continuously, and large species diversity has been found in this crustose genus, even from a small rocky island. This study indicates that the coastal area harbors a vast number of crustose lichen species, and there is great potential to discover unknown lichens in the coastal rocky area in Korea.

ABSTRACT

The paper reported an investigation of the pharmacokinetics of SN-38 (7-ethyl-10-hydroxy-camptothecin) in rats and the tissue distribution in mice after injection of irinotecan hydrochloride nanoparticles (CPT-11) via tail veins. An LC-MS/MS method was established to determine the concentrations of SN-38 in whole blood of rats and in different tissues of mice. The pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of SN-38 were compared after the intravenous injection of CPT-11 NPs and CPT-11 solution. Compared with irinotecan solution, the elimination half-life of SN-38 was prolonged from 2.17 h to 2.67 h after the intravenous injection of CPT-11 NPs, but its AUC had little change. After the injection of CPT-11 NPs in mice, over time, the concentrations of CPT-11-metabolized SN-38 in CPT-11 NPs were significantly higher in the whole blood, colon and lungs than those in CPT-11 solution, followed by in the spleen and liver, but those in the heart and brain had no change. However, the amount of SN-38 in the kidneys was reduced with time. CPT-11 NPs could prolong SN-38's (one of its metabolites) blood circulation time in rats and significantly increased the concentration of CPT-11-metabolized SN-38 in the whole blood, colon and lungs of mice. CPT-11 NPs made SN-38 efficiently target-bind to the colon and lungs of mice.

ABSTRACT

On the basis of extensive field investigation and a series of herbarium specimen identifications, we present and discuss the descriptions and distribution of 22 species of Ramalina found in the Hengduan Mountains of southwestern China. In this revisionary study, representatives of the Ramalina genus, including R. americana, R. confirmata, R. dendriscoides, R. obtusata, R. pacifica, R. pentecostii, R. peruviana, R. shinanoana, and R. subcomplanata are found for the first time in this area. In addition, R. holstii is reported for the first time China. Finally, a newly described species identified as Ramalina hengduanshanensis S. O. Oh & L. S. Wang is reported. It is characterized as growing from a narrow holdfast, solid, sparsely or richly and irregularly dichotomously branched, palmate and flattened lobes with distinctly dorsiventral appearance, surface rugose to reticulate, surface rugosely cracked, dense chondroid tissue, helmet shaped soralia at the tip. The species grows on rock and tree at the highest elevations in this area. Although very few lichen species belonging to the genus Ramalina have been collected above 4,000 m, this new species is found at this elevation. We present detailed morphological, anatomical, and chemical descriptions of this species along with molecular phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacer rDNA sequences.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDImpaired coronary flow reserve (CFR) in patients with hypertension may be caused by epicardial coronary stenosis or microvascular dysfunction. Antihypertensive treatment has been shown to improve coronary microvascular dysfunction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of uncontrolled blood pressure (BP) on diagnostic accuracy of CFR for detecting significant coronary stenosis.

METHODSA total of 98 hypertensive patients scheduled for coronary angiography (CAG) due to chest pain were studied. Of them, 45 patients had uncontrolled BP (defined as the office BP ≥ 140/90 mmHg (1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa) in general hypertensive patients, or ≥ 130/80 mmHg in hypertensive individuals with diabetes mellitus), and the remaining 53 patients had well-controlled BP. CFR was measured in the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) during adenosine triphosphate-induced hyperemia by non-invasive transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTDE) within 48 hours prior to CAG. Significant LAD stenosis was defined as > 70% luminal narrowing. Diagnostic accuracy of CFR for detecting significant coronary stenosis was analyzed with a receiver operating characteristic analysis.

RESULTSCFR was significantly lower in patients with uncontrolled BP than in those with well-controlled BP (2.1 ± 0.6 vs. 2.6 ± 0.9, P < 0.01). Multivariate linear regression analysis of the study showed that the value of CFR was independently associated with the angiographically determined degree of LAD stenosis (β = -0.445, P < 0.0001) and the presence of uncontrolled BP (β = -0.272, P = 0.014). With a receiver operating characteristic analysis, CFR < 2.2 was the optimal cut-off value for detecting LAD stenosis in all hypertensive patients (AUC 0.83, 95%CI 0.75 - 0.91) with a sensitivity of 75%, a specificity of 78%, and an accuracy of 77%. A significant reduction of diagnostic specificity was observed in patients with uncontrolled BP compared with those with well-controlled BP (67% vs. 93%, P = 0.031).

CONCLUSIONSCFR measurement by TTDE is valuable in the diagnosis of significant coronary stenosis in hypertensive patients. However, the diagnostic specificity is reduced in patients with uncontrolled BP.

ABSTRACT

The object of this study is to investigate the pharmacokinetic interaction of pioglitazone hydrochloride and atorvastatin calcium in healthy adult Beagle dogs following single and multiple oral dose administration. A randomized, cross-over study was conducted with nine healthy adult Beagle dogs assigned to three groups. Each group was arranged to take atorvastatin calcium (A), pioglitazone hydrochloride (B), atorvastatin calcium and pioglitazone hydrochloride (C) orally in the first period, to take B, C, A in the second period, and to take C, A, B in the third period for 6 days respectively. The blood samples were collected at the first and the sixth day after the administration, plasma drug concentrations were determined by LC-MS/MS, a one-week wash-out period was needed between each period. The pharmacokinetic parameters of drug combination group and the drug alone group were calculated by statistical moment method, calculation of C(max) and AUC(0-t) was done by using 90% confidence interval method of the bioequivalence and bioavailability degree module DAS 3.2.1 software statistics. Compared with the separate administration, the main pharmacokinetic parameters (C(max) and AUC(0-t)) of joint use of pioglitazone hydrochloride and atorvastatin calcium within 90% confidence intervals for bioequivalence statistics were unqualified, the mean t(max) with standard deviation used paired Wilcoxon test resulted P > 0.05. There was no significant difference within t1/2, CL(int), MRT, V/F. Pioglitazone hydrochloride and atorvastatin calcium had pharmacokinetic interaction in healthy adult Beagle dogs.
