ABSTRACT

Ferroptosis is a new type of cell death proposed in recent years, and its main characteristics are iron overload and lipid peroxidation.Ferroptosis is involved in the occurrence and development of non-alcoholic fatty liv-er disease(NAFLD).Iron overload can generate a large amount of reactive oxygen species through the Fenton reac-tion.Under the action of lipoxygenase, the unsaturated fatty acids on the liver cell membrane undergo lipid peroxi-dation,which induces liver cell death and leads to the occurrence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.Blocking ferroptosis may provide one of the therapeutic strategies to protect liver cells.

ABSTRACT

Corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)epidemic has been effectively controlled, but its related complications still cannot be ignored, especially the cardiovascular circulatory system is the active site of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)is a type Ⅰ transmembrane glycoprotein that is highly expressed in heart, kidney and testis.Spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 invades host cells by binding to the cell surface receptor ACE2.However,there are still many deficiencies in the clinical application of vaccines and drugs developed based on this target. As a molecular chaperone, cyclophilin A(CypA)promotes protein folding and T cell activation.CD147 is one of the most widely studied CypA receptors, and the interaction of CypA/CD147 plays an important role in the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into host cells. However, there are few reports on the invasion of SARS-CoV-2 into the cardiovascular system through the CypA/CD147 signaling pathway.Based on this, this article summarizes the previous research evidence and the research basis of the research group, and reviews the structure and function of CypA/CD147,the role of CypA/CD147 in cardiovascular disease, and the cardiovascular disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 targeting CypA/CD147 signal pathway,in order to provide reference for the diagnosis and treatment of the COVID-19 complicated with cardiovascular system diseases.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the dynamic changes of transcutaneous partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PtCO 2) and treatment effect of non-invasive intermittent nebulization and non-invasive simultaneous nebulization in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods:This was a randomized parallel controlled trial study. A total of 70 patients with acute exacerbation of COPD in Changzhou First People′s Hospital from October 2021 to September 2022 were selected by convenience sampling method, and divided into control group and experimental group by randomized digits table method with 35 cases in each group. The control group was given non-invasive intermittent oxygen-driven nebulization, and the experimental group was given non-invasive simultaneous oxygen-driven nebulization. The PtCO 2 values at 0, 5, 10, 15 min (the end point of atomization) of the 2 groups were observed, the daily arterial blood gas analysis indexes (mainly including PaCO 2, PaO 2 and pH) were recorded, and the clinical pulmonary infection score and the self-assessment score of COPD patients were recorded before treatment, on the 4th and 7th day of treatment. Results:Finally, 33 patients were included in both the control group and the experimental group. There were 25 males and 8 females in the control group, aged (75.33 ± 8.24) years old. There were 25 males and 8 females in the experimental group, aged (72.39 ± 8.56) years old. The PtCO 2 values at 0, 5, 10, 15 min in the control group were (63.83 ± 12.47), (64.40 ± 12.57), (65.42 ± 13.77), (66.62 ± 14.59) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa). There were statistically significant differences in PtCO 2 at all time points ( F=8.05, P<0.01). Further pairwise comparison by Sidak method showed that there were statistically significant differences in PtCO 2 at 15 min compared with 0, 5, 10 min (all P<0.05). The PtCO 2 values at 0, 5, 10, 15 min in the experimental group were (67.62 ± 11.89), (67.15 ± 12.12), (67.82 ± 12.22), (68.15 ± 12.09) mmHg. There was no statistically significant difference in PtCO 2 at all time points ( F=2.00, P>0.05). The PaCO 2 and pH value of the two groups were improved with the treatment time, the control group had a statistically significant difference on the 4th day of treatment compared with before treatment ( P<0.05), while the experimental group on the second day of treatment compared with before treatment ( P<0.05). Conclusions:Both kinds of nebulization have achieved good therapeutic effects, but non-invasive simultaneous nebulization can better maintain the stability of PtCO 2 in the process of nebulization with higher safety, and can improve the arterial blood gas index PaCO 2 and pH value of patients earlier, which is a more suitable nebulization method for the combination of non-invasive ventilation and nebulization, especially for patients with hypercapnia.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:Polylactic acid has good biocompatibility and biodegradability, and has become a new orthopedic fixation material. However, the lack of cell recognition signal of this material is not conducive to cell adhesion and osteogenic differentiation, which limits its application in biomaterials. OBJECTIVE:3D-printed polylactic acid-nano-hydroxyapatite(nHA)/chitosan(CS)scaffold to evaluate its drug sustained-release and biological properties. METHODS:The porous polylactic acid scaffold(recorded as PLA scaffold)with interporous pores was printed by fused deposition modeling technique, and the scaffold was soaked in dopamine solution to prepare polylactic acid-dopamine scaffold(recorded as PLA-DA scaffold).Nano-hydroxyapatite was immersed in chitosan solution, and then the PLA-DA scaffold was immersed in it to prepare polylactic acid-nano-hydroxyapatite/chitosan scaffold(recorded as PLA-nHA/CS scaffold). The micro-morphology,porosity,water contact angle, and compressive strength of the three scaffolds were characterized.PLA-nHA/CS scaffold loaded with doxycycline(recorded as PLA-nHA/CS-DOX scaffold)was prepared by freeze-drying method, and its drug release was characterized.PLA,PLA-DA,PLA-nHA/CS,and PLA-nHA/CS-DOX scaffolds were co-cultured with MC3T3-E1 cells, separately,to detect cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation.Staphylococcus aureus suspensions of different concentrations were co-cultured with four groups of scaffolds. The antibacterial performance of scaffolds was detected by inhibition zone test. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)Under scanning electron microscopy, the surfaces of PLA and PLA-DA scaffolders were dense and smooth, and nHA particles were observed on PLA-nHA/CS scaffolders. The porosity of PLA,PLA-DA and PLA-nHA/CS scaffolds decreased gradually, and the compressive strength increased gradually. The elastic modulus of PLA-nHA/CS scaffolds met the requirements of cancelous bone. The water contact angle of PLA-DA and PLA-nHA/CS brackets was smaller than that of PLA scaffolds. The PLA-nHA/CS scaffold sustainably released drugs in vitro for 8 days.(2)CCK-8 assay showed that the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells was not significantly affected by the four groups of scaffolds. The activity of alkaline phosphatase in PLA-DA group,PLA-nHA/CS group, and PLA-nHA/CS-DOX group was higher than that in PLA group.Alizarin red staining showed that compared with PLA group, the cells in PLA-nHA/CS group and PLA-nHA/CS-DOX group showed higher mineralized water level.(3)Inhibition zone test exhibited that PLA and PLA-DA scaffolds had no antibacterial properties.PLA-nHA/CS scaffolds had certain antibacterial properties.PLA-nHA/CS-DOX scaffolds had super antibacterial properties.(4)The results showed that the PLA-nHA/CS-DOX scaffold had good drug release performance, cell compatibility, osteogenic properties, and antibacterial properties.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the factors that lead to diffuse chorioretinal atrophy(DCA)in patients with high myopia(HM)and to establish a prediction model. Methods In this retrospective case-control study,a total of 169 HM patients(338 eyes)admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology,Harbin 242 Hospital from October 2018 to October 2022 were selected. All patients underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examination at the time of inclusion. The incidence of DCA was evaluated according to the International Photographic Classification and Grading System for myopic maculopa-thy,and the risk factors of DCA in HM patients were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression. The predictive model of DCA in HM patients was established by the receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC)based on risk factors, and the calibration degree of the predictive model was tested by Hosmer-Lemeshow(H-L).Results Among the 169 patients,34 patients were divided into the DCA group, and 135 patients were divided into the non-DCA group;there were statistically significant differences in age and gender distribution between the two groups(both P<0.05).The axial length(AL),pat-tern standard deviation(PSD),positive rate of carbonic anhydrase 2(CAII)antibody in the DCA group were higher than those in the non-DCA group, while the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),mean defect(MD)of the visual field,spheri-cal equivalent(SE),deep retinal microvessel density(MVD)and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D]were lower than those in the non-DCA group(all P<0.05).Older age, longer AL and positive CAII antibody were the risk factors for DCA in HM patients(all P<0.05),while greater deep retinal MVD and higher 25(OH)D were the protective factors(both P<0.05).ROC analysis showed that the area under the curve of the prediction model for DCA in HM patients was 0.864(95%CI:0.802-0.911,P<0.001),and the sensitivity and specificity were 85.29%and 88.15%,respectively.According to the H-L test, the prediction model for DCA in HM patients was relatively consistent with the actual results(P>0.05).Con-clusion The occurrence of DCA in HM patients is affected by age,AL,CAII antibody, deep retinal MVD and 25(OH)D level, and a prediction model established based on the above factors can predict the risk of DCA well.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the nutritional status of patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis and explore the correlation with malnutrition and the risk factors of depressed mood.Methods:190 cirrhotic patients admitted to the Department of Gastroenterology of the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from June to September 2023 were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Eligible patients were divided into subgroups based on the presence or absence of malnutrition as determined by subjective global assessment (SGA). The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) scale was used to assess patients' propensity for depressed mood. Relevant clinical data were also collected and analyzed. Results:A total of 185 patients were included, of which 126 were in the non-malnutrition group and 59 malnutrition group. There were significant between-group differences in terms of CES-D results, age, body mass index, platelets, D-dimer, serum sodium, third lumbar skeletal muscle index, grip strength, triceps skinfold thickness, and upper arm muscle circumference (all P<0.05). Correlation analysis showed that grip strength, triceps skinfold thickness, upper arm muscle circumference, serum sodium, and depressed mood tendency status were correlated with the development of cirrhotic malnutrition ( P<0.05). The diagnostic model for malnutrition in cirrhosis using these five indicators showed the area under the curve of 81.9%. Conclusions:Depression is closely related to the development of malnutrition in patients with liver cirrhosis. Independent risk factors for malnutrition in cirrhosis include serum sodium≤135 mmol/L, grip strength, triceps skinfold thickness, lower-than-normal upper arm circumference , and the tendency of depression , which demonstrate the combined contribution to the diagnosis of malnutrition in cirrhosis.

ABSTRACT

Gastrointestinal graft versus host disease is one of the most severe complications after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, which can occur in patients of any age groups. Its clinical manifestations include nausea, vomit, abdominal pain, diarrhea and the like. Severe gastrointestinal graft versus host disease could directly influence the patients' clinical prognosis and therapeutic efficacy of transplantation. Here we had a review of the research progress on nutritional support and diet management strategies for gastrointestinal graft versus host disease. It is of great clinical significance to form a step-wise nutritional support model to reduce the risk of malnutrition in patients with gastrointestinal graft versus host disease, which would contribute to improving patients' general condition, relieving digestive tract symptoms, and reducing the risk of complications.

Objective:To compare demographic characteristics, clinical characteristics, therapeutic characteris-tics and physiological indicators of patients with bipolar Ⅰ disorder and bipolar Ⅱ disorder. Methods:A total of 381 patients with bipolar disorder(BD)diagnosed by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 th Edi-tion(DSM-5)were selected, including 302 patients with BD-Ⅰ(79.27%),74 patients with BD-Ⅱ(19.42%)and 5 patients with other specific and related disorders(1.31%).Demographic and clinical characteristics were collected with self-designed clinical information questionnaire.Multivariate logistic regression and multivariate linear regres-sion analysis were used for analysis. Results:Compared with patients with BD-Ⅱ,patients with BD-Ⅰ had more risk to have psychotic features(OR=5.75,95%CI:2.82-11.76),longer disease duration, and more repeated transcra-nial magnetic therapy(OR=3.09,95%CI:1.02-9.35),higher uric acid, total cholesterol and high-density lipo-protein.BD-Ⅰ in Han nationality was more common(OR=11.50,95%CI:1.76-75.30),and had lower education level(OR=10.22,95%CI:1.16-89.77),and less family history of psychosis(OR=2.34,95%CI:1.01-5.42).Conclusion:There are significant differences between BD-Ⅰ and BD-Ⅱ in demographic and clinical charac-teristics,treatment status, and physiological indicators, which could provide clues for exploring the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare clinical characteristics, treatment patterns and physiological indicators in bipolar disorder(BD)patients with different age of onset. Methods:Totally 380 patients with DSM-5 BD were se-lected in this study.Psychiatrists diagnosed the patients using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. The clinical information questionnaire and the Global Assessment of Functioning scale were utilized to collected clinical characteristics, treatment status, and physiological indicators. The onset age of BD was divided into 21 and 35 years as cut-off points.Multivariate logistic regression and linear regression were used to analyze related factors. Results:Among the 380 patients with BD,199 cases were early-onset group(52.4%),121 cases were middle-onset group(31.8%),and 60 cases were late-onset group(15.8%).There were 26.6%of patients in the early-onset group in-itially diagnosed as depression,23.1%in the middle-onset group, and 11.7%in the late-onset group.Multivariate analysis revealed that compared to the early-onset group of BD,the middle-onset(OR=2.22)and late-onset(OR=4.99)groups had more risk to experience depressive episodes, and the late-onset group(OR=6.74)had 6.74 times of risk to suffer from bipolar Ⅱ disorder.Additionally, patients in the middle-onset(β=-1.52)and late-on-set(β=-4.29)groups had shorter durations of delayed treatment, and those in the middle-onset(β=-1.62)and late-onset(β=-3.14)groups had fewer hospitalizations.Uric acid levels were lower in both the middle-onset(β=-28.39)and late-onset(β=-31.47)groups,and total cholesterol level was lower in the middle-onset group(β=-0.23).Conclusion:Patients with BD in different age of onset show significant differences in clinical charac-teristics,treatment conditions and physiological indicators.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the associated factors of depressive symptoms among patients with neo-plasms.Methods:Nationwide(excluding Hong Kong,Macao, and Taiwan),30 505 residents were selected by a combination of stratified sampling and quota sampling according to the proportion of the seventh national population census.Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9),General Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7),self-made questionnaire, and simplified perceived social support scale used to evaluate depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, behaviors, and perceived social support among patients with neoplasms. Results:Totally 359(1.2%)patients with self-repor-ted clinically diagnosed neoplasms were included,of which 151(42.1%)patients with malignant neoplasms and 208(57.9%)patients with benign neoplasms. The detection rate of depressive symptoms in patients with neo-plasms was 76.6%.Less than three days of walking for more than 10 minutes per day in the past week(OR=6.63),4-6 days of walking for more than 10 minutes per day in the past week(OR=5.00),the low(OR=4.80)or medium(OR=3.06)overall sleep quality, the lower perceived friend support(OR=4.66),and anxiety symp-toms(OR=1.74)among patients with neoplasms were risk factors for depressive symptoms. Conclusion:Patients with neoplasms generally might be at a high risk of depressive symptoms, especially for those patients with less ex-ercise,poor sleep quality, and low perceived social support.
