ABSTRACT

Objective To extract key parameters from a series of biomechanical parameters of rowing technique, so as to provide useful information for coach training. Methods Based on rowing performance of 16 rowers in national team, the factor analysis was used to extract reducing dimension of biomechanical parameters of rowing technique of 80 oxygen utilisation 2 (UT2) training pieces. Results The biomechanical parameters of rowing techniques were classified as technical characteristic factors (angle of 70% peak force, work portion of per 25% stroke length, drive start time, finish slip, position of peak force and angle of peak force), power factor (rower power, average of boat power, port swivel power and stroke swivel power), stroke length factor (catch angle and finish angle) and oar’s motion factor (recovery time, stroke rate and distance of per stroke). Conclusions Monitoring and analyzing these biomechanical factors would contribute coaches and scientific researchers to accurately judge the technical characteristics and shortcomings of rowers.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the correlation of metabolic syndrome (MS ) with low triiodothyronine(T3)syndrome(LT3S ,or It is known as ESS :euthyroid sick syndrome) ,subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH )and a high serum total homocysteine (tHcy )level (hyperhomocysteinemia )in elderly patients. Methods We retrospectively analyzed thyroid function ,serum glucose ,lipids and homocysteine(Hcy)level in 83 MS patients(MS group) ,30 patients with low T3 syndrome(low T3 group) ,41 patients with SCH (SCH group)and 80 healthy individuals (control group)aged over 60 years from January 2015 to March 2017 in outpatient and inpatient departments of our hospital. The correlations of thyroid function and serum Hcy level with MS components were analyzed by multiple Logistic regression model. Results The incidence of low T3 syndrome and SCH in MS patients was 37.3% (31/83)and 49.4% (41/83) ,respectively.Low T3 group versus control group showed the lower levels in free triiodothyronine ,FT4 ,folic acid ,and Hcy ,with statistically significant differences (all P<0.05).SCH group versus control group showed a lower levels of FT 4 ,of Hcy and of folic acid ,but an increased TSH level ,with statistically significant differences (all P<0.05).Patients with TSH >5.5 mU/L had decreased FT3 which occurred later than the rise of TSH (P<0.05) .Univariate correlation analysis showed that FT3 was negatively correlated with Hcy (P< 0.01) ,and TSH was negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(P<0.01).Multivariate linear regression analysis found linear correlations of TSH with triglyceride ,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ,and Hcy(all P < 0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that FT3 ,Hcy and TSH are highly associated with hypertension after adjustment for gender and body mass index (all P< 0.05).Decreased FT3(P<0.01) ,elevated Hcy(P<0.05) ,and increased TSH(P<0.05)were independent risk factors for MS in elderly patients. Conclusions The incidences of low T3 syndrome and SCH are increased with aging. FT3 ,TSH ,and Hcy are independent risk factors for MS in the elderly.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the relationship between gastric retention and full enteral feeding during the course of feeding in extremely low birth weight (ELBW, birth weight <1 000 g) infants.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>A total of 43 ELBW infants were fed with formula according to the strategy for premature infants feeding of Canadian Society of Neonatology. The information such as gastric retention, the time they finish full enteral feeding and sucking spontaneously and complication were recorded. These infants had transition to full enteral feeding step by step since initiating formula feeding on the second day of life. The volume of gastric retention and the duration of gastric retention was analyzed with the time of attaining full enteral feeding and sucking spontaneously by linear regression.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>Forty-one infants finished the course, the remaining 2 infants got necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and were rescued by surgery. The incidence was 4.6%. In 18 infants full enteral feeding could not be initiated successfully on the second day of life, the incidence was 43.9%. The peak duration of gastric retention was the first week of feeding. The average time of attaining enteral feeding was (26.71 ± 12.24) days. The proportion of different residual contents was simlar, the major content was milky content after 3 weeks of feeding. The gastric retention time had a significant effect of on the time of attaining full enteral feeding (β = 1.045, P = 0.001) and sucking well (β = 0.787, P = 0.034) .</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The course of formula feeding ELBW infants to attaining full enteral feeding was a long period, in the early stage of formula feeding the occurrence of gastric retention was high; the amount of formula during the first week of feeding should be slowly increased as compared to the second week; the present strategy and aggressive strategy should be done 2 weeks later. The time of attaining full enteral feeding can be predicted by the duration of gastric retention.</p>

ABSTRACT

This paper reports a novel method to detect human leukemic lymphoblasts (CCRF-CEM cells). While the aptamer of the cancer cells was employed as the recognition element to target cancer cells, peroxidase-active DNAzyme was used as the sensing element to produce catalysis-induced colorimetric signals. The elegant architecture integrating the aptamer and DNAzyme made it feasible to detect cancer cells easily and rapidly by the color change of the substrate for DNAzyme. Experimental results showed that 500 cells can well indicate the cancer, while as control, 250,000 Islet Island Beta cells only show tiny signals, suggesting that the method proposed in this paper has considerable sensitivity and selectivity. Furthermore, since it does not require expensive apparatus, or modification or label of DNA chains, the method we present here is also cost-effective and conveniently operated, implying potential applications in future cancer diagnosis.
