ABSTRACT

Stress and illness connection is complex and involves multiple physiological systems. Panax ginsengs, reputed for their broad-spectrum "cure-all" effect, are widely prescribed to treat stress and related illnesses. However, the identity of ginseng's "cure-all" medicinal compounds that relieve stress remains unresolved. Here, we identify ginsentides as the principal bioactives that coordinate multiple systems to restore homeostasis in response to stress. Ginsentides are disulfide-rich, cell-penetrating and proteolytic-stable microproteins. Using affinity-enrichment mass spectrometry target identification together with in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo validations, we show that highly purified or synthetic ginsentides promote vasorelaxation by producing nitric oxide through endothelial cells via intracellular PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, alleviate α1-adrenergic receptor overactivity by reversing phenylephrine-induced constriction of aorta, decrease monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells via CD166/ESAM/CD40 and inhibit P2Y12 receptors to reduce platelet aggregation. Orally administered ginsentides were effective in animal models to reduce ADP-induced platelet aggregation, to prevent collagen and adrenaline-induced pulmonary thrombosis as well as anti-stress behavior of tail suspension and forced swimming tests in mice. Together, these results strongly suggest that ginsentides are the principal panacea compounds of ginsengs because of their ability to target multiple extra- and intra-cellular proteins to reverse stress-induced damages.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Introduction: Understanding the intricate dynamics between different waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding variations in clinical outcomes is essential for informed public health decision-making. Comprehensive insights into these fluctuations can guide resource allocation, healthcare policies, and the development of effective interventions. This study aimed to compare the characteristics and clinical outcomes of COVID-19 at peak transmission points by including all patients attended during the first four pandemic waves in a referral center in Colombia. Material and methods: In a prospective observational study of 2733 patients, clinical and demographic data were extracted from the Fundacion Valle de Lili's COVID-19 Registry, focusing on ICU admission, Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV), length of hospital stay, and mortality. Results: Our analysis unveiled substantial shifts in patient care patterns. Notably, the proportion of patients receiving glucocorticoid therapy and experiencing secondary infections exhibited a pronounced decrease across waves (p < 0.001). Remarkably, there was a significant reduction in ICU admissions (62.83% vs. 51.23% vs. 58.23% vs. 46.70 %, p < 0.001), Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV) usage (39.25% vs. 32.22% vs. 31.22% vs. 21.55 %, p < 0.001), and Length of Hospital Stay (LOS) (9 vs. 8 vs. 8 vs. 8 days, p < 0.001) over the successive waves. Surprisingly, hospital mortality remained stable at approximately 18-20 % (p > 0.05). Notably, vaccination coverage with one or more doses surged from 0 % during the initial waves to 66.71 % in the fourth wave. Conclusions: Our findings emphasize the critical importance of adapting healthcare strategies to the evolving dynamics of the pandemic. The reduction in ICU admissions, IMV utilization, and LOS, coupled with the rise in vaccination rates, underscores the adaptability of healthcare systems. Hospital mortality's persistence may warrant further exploration of treatment strategies. These insights can inform public health responses, helping policymakers allocate resources effectively and tailor interventions to specific phases of the pandemic.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Introduction: Acute promyelocytic leukemia currently presents an excellent chance of cure with protocols based on all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) and anthracycline or only differentiation agents. However, high early mortality rates continue to be reported Methods: Between 2000 and 2018, patients were enrolled and retrospectively analyzed by medical records. A modified AIDA protocol, with a 1-year shortening of the treatment duration, reduction in the number of drugs and a strategy to reduce early mortality by the postponement of the initiation of anthracyclines were employed. Overall and event-free survival rates and toxicity were analyzed Results: Thirty-two patients were enrolled, of whom 56% were female, with a median age of 12 years and 34% belonged to the high-risk group. Two patients had the hypogranular variant and three had another cytogenetic alteration, in addition to the t(15;17). The median start of the first anthracycline dose was 7 days. There were two early deaths (6%) due to central nervous system (CNS) bleeding. All patients achieved molecular remission after the consolidation phase. Two children relapsed and were rescued by arsenic trioxide and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The presence of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) at diagnosis (p = 0.03) was the only factor with survival impact. The five-year event-free survival (EFS) was 84% and 5-year overall survival (OS) was 90% Conclusion: The survival results were comparable to those found in the AIDA protocol, with a low rate of early mortality in relation to the Brazilian reality.

Abstract: Introduction: all-in meniscal suture devices have evolved and simplified meniscal repair. In this study we will formulate the following research questions: what is the rate of survival and failure? What are the risk factors associated with failure? And what are the functional results after meniscal repair surgery? Material and methods: ambispective study from 2001 to 2021 of patients with repairable meniscal injury with all-in meniscal suture devices. The survival and failure ratio were obtained with the Kaplan-Meier test, the risk factors associated with meniscal suture failure were assessed with the logistic regression test, and the pre- and post-surgical functional results were estimated with the test. t-Student. Results: in 20 years of follow-up of 316 menisci repaired with all-in meniscal sutures, a survival rate of 95.9% was obtained. The absence of injury to the anterior horn of the meniscus was shown to be a protective factor [OR = 0.12], together with not practicing impact sports [OR = 0.2]. Post-surgery IKDC and Tegner-Lysholm results were shown to be very good to excellent (p < 0.0001). Conclusion: all-in meniscal suture devices are and will continue to be front-line weapons in the repair of meniscal tears. In 20 years of follow-up, a lower failure rate was evidenced, associated with excellent functional results.

ABSTRACT

“Lineage switch” is term described when leukemic cells on relapse exhibit a new phenotype, where losses of one lineage defining markers with simultaneous gain of another lineage defining markers occur. Relapse of acute leukemia is although a very common event, lineage switch occurs and reported very rarely in such cases. The pathogenesis involved in this phenomenon remains unclear; however plasticity of hematopoietic progenitor affected by intrinsic and extrinsic environmental cues can be a possible explanation. In most of the cases at the time of relapse conversion of B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) to acute myeloid leukemia (AML) occurs. Here, we presented an unusual case of 10 year old boy with AML switched to T-ALL upon relapse, which is very rare and not well documented till date in literature. The diagnosis was further supported by morphologic, cytochemistry and flowcytometric immunophenotyping (FCM-IPT). Prognosis and survival of such cases remains poor even by the use of standard chemotherapy.

ABSTRACT

While Mek1/2 and Gsk3β inhibition ("2i") supports the maintenance of murine embryonic stem cells (ESCs) in a homogenous naïve state, prolonged culture in 2i results in aneuploidy and DNA hypomethylation that impairs developmental potential. Additionally, 2i fails to support derivation and culture of fully potent female ESCs. Here we find that mouse ESCs cultured in 2i/LIF supplemented with lipid-rich albumin (AlbuMAX) undergo pluripotency transition yet maintain genomic stability and full potency over long-term culture. Mechanistically, lipids in AlbuMAX impact intracellular metabolism including nucleotide biosynthesis, lipid biogenesis, and TCA cycle intermediates, with enhanced expression of DNMT3s that prevent DNA hypomethylation. Lipids induce a formative-like pluripotent state through direct stimulation of Erk2 phosphorylation, which also alleviates X chromosome loss in female ESCs. Importantly, both male and female "all-ESC" mice can be generated from de novo derived ESCs using AlbuMAX-based media. Our findings underscore the importance of lipids to pluripotency and link nutrient cues to genome integrity in early development.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#In developed countries, midday napping and nighttime sleep duration have been linked to long-term survival; however, little is known about such effects in less developed regions. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the associations of midday napping and nocturnal sleep with mortality in middle-aged and older Chinese adults.@*METHODS@#A nationwide cohort of 15,524 adults aged ≥ 45 years was enrolled from 28 provincial regions across mainland China and followed up from 2011 to 2018, using data from the Chinese Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Midday napping and nighttime sleep duration were assessed using standardized questionnaires. Cox proportional hazards models with random intercepts for the surveyed provinces were used to estimate hazard ratios ( HRs) of all-cause mortality, adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics, behavioral factors, and health status.@*RESULTS@#A total of 1,745 deaths occurred during a median follow-up of 7.1 years, and the mean (standard deviation) age was 59 (10.1) years at baseline. Compared with non-nappers, over 60 min nappers had a higher risk of all-cause mortality [ HR: 1.35, 95% confidence interval ( CI): 1.17-1.56], while no significant associations were observed among < 30 min nappers. Compared with sleep duration of 6-8 h/night, both short (< 6 h) and long (≥ 8 h) sleep duration were significantly associated with increased mortality, with corresponding HR (95% CI) estimates of 1.21 (1.05-1.38) and 1.26 (1.10-1.44), respectively. We observed significant patterns for greater risks associated with longer nap duration, with a P trend value < 0.001 for all-cause mortality. No significant evidence of an additive interaction was identified between midday napping and nighttime sleep.@*CONCLUSION@#Long midday napping and inappropriate nighttime sleep were independently associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality in middle-aged and older Chinese populations. Biological studies are needed to validate our findings and clarify the mechanisms underlying this association.

ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: The preferred management of medial meniscus tears has notably moved from meniscectomies towards repair. With a higher volume of meniscal repairs being done all across the world with every passing day, the lack of an objective and definitive sign suggesting the adequacy of its repair is daunting. The purpose of our study was to introduce a unique and novel arthroscopic sign formed after adequate repair of the medial meniscus, the AMR (Adequacy of Medial meniscus Repair) sign. We hypothesised that it is not only the objective end point for repair, but can also form the indicator for excellent clinical, functional, and radiological outcome even in the long term. Materials and methods: This was a multicentric, prospective study initiated by the corresponding author, and the findings validated subsequently by the other authors. Overall, it included 804 patients of isolated medial meniscus tear operated with arthroscopic all-inside technique between January 2014 and December 2017. Patients were segregated into three groups based on whether an S-shaped curve in the free, inner edge of the medial meniscus sign was formed post-repair, lost after further tightening, or not formed upon subjective completion of repair. All the patients were followed-up and evaluated based of medial joint line tenderness, McMurray’s test for medial meniscus, IKDC score, WOMET score, and radiologically using an MRI at the terminal follow-up. Results: The mean terminal follow-up was 42.34±4.54 months. There was significant (p<0.01) improvement in all patients at the terminal follow-up post-surgery, irrespective of the group. The group in which AMR sign was formed and maintained showed a significantly better functional outcome on terminal follow-up as well as lower failure rates compared to the other two groups. Conclusion: AMR sign is an S-shaped fold at the inner, free edge of medial meniscus, formed after an adequate repair of isolated medial meniscus tear, as viewed on arthroscopy. It is an objective sign denoting regained integrity of the collagen architecture of the medial meniscus following repair. It is also a reliable indicator of excellent long term functional, clinical, and radiological outcome and also lower failure rates in patients after arthroscopic medial meniscus repair.

ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: ACL rupture is the most common type of knee injury. The All-inside ACL reconstruction procedure features some distinguished components including closed-socket tunnels with less bone expulsion, double suspensory fixation, and smaller incisions. We aimed to compare the outcomes between the All-inside Single-bundle and the Double-bundle ACL reconstruction techniques. Materials and methods: This study was a retrospective study which analysed the patient-reported and the clinical outcomes on patients who underwent ACL reconstruction between January and December 2020 at Dr Kariadi General Hospital Semarang, Indonesia. We compared the patientreported and the clinical outcomes at 6- and 12-month follow-ups between the All-inside Single-bundle and the Double-bundle groups. The patient-reported outcomes were determined using the IKDC and Tegner-Lysholm scores while the clinical outcomes included the measurement of Thigh Circumference, Single Hop test, Anterior Drawer test, Lachman test, Range of motion, and the patient’s level of return to sport. Results: A total of 24 subjects were divided into two groups, namely the All-inside Single-bundle and the Double-bundle groups, consisting of 12 subjects in each group. Most of the subjects were male in both groups, including 9 (75%) subjects in the All-inside Single-bundle group, and 11 (91.67%) subjects in the Double-bundle group. The mean age of the subjects were 25.75±7.57 years old in the Allinside Single-bundle group, and 24.5±6.87 years old in the Double-bundle group. In terms of the side of the knee that suffered the most injuries in both groups were the right knees. The result of the patient-reported outcomes using IKDC and Tegner-Lysholm scores showed no statistically significant differences in both groups at 6- and 12-month follow-ups (p=0.864; p=0.293 and p=0.589; p=0.233, respectively). The results of clinical assessments at 6- and 12-month follow-ups also showed no statistically significant differences in both groups. Conclusion: Our study showed no significant differences in the patient-reported and the clinical outcomes between the All-inside Single-bundle and the Double-bundle ACL reconstruction techniques at 6- and 12-month follow-ups.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To investigate the correlation between early immune reconstitution and clinical outcomes in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). 【Methods】 The basic information and treatment data of 99 patients with ALL undering allo-HSCT from December 2018 to February 2022 were collected. The proportions of CD3+ T, CD3+CD4+ T, CD3+CD8+ T and CD3-CD16+CD56+ NK cells were detected before and 30, 60 and 90 days after transplantation using flow cytometry. The correlation between early cellular immune reconstitution and neutrophil engraftment, platelet engraftment, infection, and acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was analyzed. 【Results】 Among 99 ALL patients, the median time of neutrophil engraftment was day +11 (range, 8-28), and the median time of platelet engraftment was day +14 (range, 10-120). The cumulative incidence of blood stream infection (BSI) was 11.10% and the cumulative incidence of CMV within 100 days of transplantation was 40.40%. The cumulative incidence of EBV within 100 days was 7.10%. The cumulative incidence of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) was 22.30%. The cumulative incidence of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) within 1 year of transplantation was 16.20%. 1 -year cumulative relapse rate was 13.84%. The 1 -year cumulative disease-free survival (DFS) for all patients was 80.60% and the 1-year overall survival (OS) was 90.30%. The CD4+/CD8+ ratio was positively associated with the development of aGVHD at 30 days post-transplant (OR 1.21, 95CI 1.01-1.45, P<0.05). The proportion of CD16+ CD56+ NK cell were higher in the group without BSI than that in the BSI group before and 30 days after transplantation (P < 0.05). The proportion of CD4+ T-cell were lower in the CMV infection group than that in the group without CMV infection at 60 and 90 days post-transplant(P<0.05). The higher level of CD4+ T-cells at 60 days post-transplant was a protective factor for CMV infection within 100 days (HR 0.91, 95CI 0.84-0.99, P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Early immune reconstitution after allo-HSCT in patients with ALL is associated with aGVHD, CMV and BSI.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective    To explore the prognostic value of serum cystatin C (Cys C) in patients with congenital heart disease-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH-CHD). Methods    A retrospective cohort study was conducted on adult PAH-CHD patients who were hospitalized for the first time in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January 2010 to January 2020. The serum Cys C and other related data of patients were collected. The median follow-up time was 57 months. The main end event was all-cause death. According to the prognosis, the patients were divided into a survival group and a death group. Cox regression was used to analyze the risk factors for all-cause death in patients with PAH-CHD. Results    A total of 456 patients were enrolled, including 160 males and 296 females, aged 38.99±14.72 years. The baseline data showed that there were statistical differences in resting heart rate, serum Cys C, creatinine, NT-proB-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT), high-sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP), New York Heart Association (NYHA) cardiac function classification and serum potassium between the survival group and the death group. Univariate Cox regression analysis showed that serum  Cys C, NT-proBNP, hs-cTnT, creatinine and NYHA cardiac function classification were related risk factors for all-cause death in patients with PAH-CHD. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that serum Cys C (HR=3.820, 95%CI 2.053-7.108, P<0.001), NYHA grade Ⅲ (HR=2.234, 95%CI 1.316-3.521, P=0.010), NYHA grade Ⅳ (HR=4.037, 95%CI 1.899-7.810, P=0.002) and NT-proBNP (HR=1.026, 95%CI 1.013-1.039, P<0.001) were independent risk factors for all-cause death in patients with PAH-CHD and had a good predictive value. Conclusion    As a new cardiac marker, serum Cys C can predict all-cause death in patients with PAH-CHD and is an independent risk factor.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study and estimate the public dose constraint and the atmospheric radiation capacity of an isotope industrial park, and to provide a basis for management of radioactive effluent discharge in isotope industrial parks. Methods We collected the natural environment data, meteorological data, and population distribution and dietary data as well as the source terms of radioactive airborne effluents of an isotope industrial park. The public dose constraint value of the isotope industrial park was determined based on the natural environmental radiation hazard level. The atmospheric environmental radiation capacity of the industrial park was estimated by the all-pathways method. Results The public dose constraint value of the industrial park was 0.2 mSv/a. At the end of industrial park planning, the maximum individual effective dose to the public caused by airborne effluent discharge was 1.07×10−6 Sv/a, which accounted for 0.54% of the public dose constraint value. The proportions of discharges of airborne radionuclides to respective environmental radiation capacities ranged from 0.04% to 4.34%. Conclusion The determined public dose constraint value of the isotope industrial park can be used as the total radiation capacity of the regional atmospheric environment to constrain the discharge of radioactive effluents. The environmental radiation capacity of each radionuclide can be estimated by the all-pathways method considering the comprehensive impact of radionuclide discharges, which is suitable for the control and management of isotope production enterprises in industrial parks.

ABSTRACT

Objective@# To explore the preventive effect of nicotinamide (NAM) on cleft palate induced by all-trans retinoic acid (RA), to provide research evidence for the prevention of cleft palate. @*Methods @#The mouse cleft palate model was induced by intragastric administration of 70 mg/kg all-trans retinoic acid at embryonic day 10.5 (E10.5) in the control group. The mouse cleft palate model was treated by caudal vein injection of 20 mg/kg NAM at E8.5 to E13.5 in the experimental group (1). The cleft palate model was treated by caudal vein injection of 40 mg/kg NAM at E8.5-E13.5 in the experimental group (2). The cleft palate of fetal rats was observed by laparotomy on E16.5 and statistically analyzed. Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining was used to detect the apoptosis of mouse embryonic palatal mesenchyme (MEPM) cells treated with RA 1 μmol/L (RA 1 group), NAM 200 μmol/L (NAM 200 group), and both NAM 200 μmol/L and RA 1 μmol/L (NAM 200+RA 1 group) for 24 hours by flow cytometry and the apoptosis rate in groups were compared. Culture without RA or NAM was used as a control. @*Results @# The cleft palate rate in the control group was 98%. The cleft palate rate in experimental group (1) was 87%. There was no significant difference between groups (P>0.05). The cleft palate rate in the experimental group (2) was 63%, compared with the control group, there was a significant difference (P<0.01). The cell apoptosis rate was 16.53%±2.89% in the CONTROL group. The cell apoptosis rate was 22.9%±1.85% in the RA 1 group, which was a significant increase compared with the CONTROL group (P<0.01). The apoptotic rate of the NAM 200 group was 9.23%±1.39%, which was a significant decrease compared with NA 1 group (P<0.01). The apoptosis rate of the NAM 200+RA 1 group was 14.9%±7.67%, which was a significant decrease compared with the RA 1 group (P<0.01).@*Conclusion@#NAM can prevent cleft palate. 40 mg/kg nicotinamide during pregnancy is an effective concentration for the prevention of RA-induced cleft palate. The mechanism by which NAM prevents cleft palate may be that NAM inhibits RA-induced apoptosis of MEPM cells.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To summarize the clinical features, surgical methods, and prognosis of bucket-handle meniscal tears (BHMTs), and provide guidance for clinical treatment.@*METHODS@#The clinical data of 91 BHMTs patients (91 knees), who met the selection criteria and were admitted between January 2015 and January 2021, was retrospectively analyzed. There were 68 males and 23 females. Age ranged from 16 to 58 years with an average of 34.4 years. The injury was caused by sports in 68 cases, traffic accident in 15 cases, and falls or sprains in 8 cases. There were 49 cases of left knee injury and 42 cases of right knee injury. The time from the onset of symptoms to the admission ranged from 1 day to 13 months (median, 18 days), including >1 month in 35 cases and ≤1 month in 56 cases. Medial BHMTs occurred in 52 cases and lateral BHMTs in 39 cases. There were 36 cases with ACL rupture and 12 cases with discoid meniscus. The knee extension was limited more than 10° in 55 cases. According to the condition of meniscus injury, the meniscus suture with Inside-out combined with All-inside techniques (54 cases) or meniscoplasty (37 cases) under arthroscopy were selected. ACL reconstruction was performed in all patients with ACL rupture with autogenous hamstring tendon. Postoperative complications were observed. International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, Lysholm score, and Tegner score were used to evaluate knee function, and clinical failure was recorded.@*RESULTS@#Two patients developed intermuscular venous thrombosis, which improved after oral anticoagulant therapy. No vascular injury, postoperative infection, joint stiffness, or other complications occurred in all patients. All patients were followed up 24-95 months, with a median of 64 months. A total of 12 cases (13.19%) failed the operation and were re-operated or given oral anti-inflammatory analgesics and rehabilitation therapy. At last follow-up, IKDC score and Lysholm score of 91 patients significantly increased when compared with those before operation ( P<0.05), while Tegner score significantly decreased ( P<0.05). The above indexes of patients treated with meniscus suture and meniscoplasty were also significantly different from those before operation ( P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#BHMTs occurs mostly in young men and is one of the important reasons for the limitation of knee extension after trauma. Arthroscopic meniscus suture and meniscoplasty can obtain good effectiveness according to individual conditions of patients. But the latter can better preserve the shape and function of meniscus, and theoretically can obtain better long-term outcomes, which needs to be confirmed by further research with larger sample size.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The demands for dental materials continue to grow, driven by the desire to reach a better performance than currently achieved by the available materials. In the dental restorative ceramic field, the structures evolved from the metal-ceramic systems to highly translucent multilayered zirconia, aiming not only for tailored mechanical properties but also for the aesthetics to mimic natural teeth. Ceramics are widely used in prosthetic dentistry due to their attractive clinical properties, including high strength, biocompatibility, chemical stability, and a good combination of optical properties. Metal-ceramics type has always been the golden standard of dental reconstruction. However, this system lacks aesthetic aspects. For this reason, efforts are made to develop materials that met both the mechanical features necessary for the safe performance of the restoration as well as the aesthetic aspects, aiming for a beautiful smile. In this field, glass and high-strength core ceramics have been highly investigated for applications in dental restoration due to their excellent combination of mechanical properties and translucency. However, since these are recent materials when compared with the metal-ceramic system, many studies are still required to guarantee the quality and longevity of these systems. Therefore, a background on available dental materials properties is a starting point to provoke a discussion on the development of potential alternatives to rehabilitate lost hard and soft tissue structures with ceramic-based tooth and implant-supported reconstructions. This review aims to bring the most recent materials research of the two major categories of ceramic restorations: ceramic-metal system and all-ceramic restorations. The practical aspects are herein presented regarding the evolution and development of materials, technologies applications, strength, color, and aesthetics. A trend was observed to use high-strength core ceramics type due to their ability to be manufactured by CAD/CAM technology. In addition, the impacts of COVID-19 on the market of dental restorative ceramics are presented.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Background The authors examined the relationship between Weight-adjusted Waist Index (WWI) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among adults in the US. Methods This prospective cohort study included 26,882 individuals who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 through 2014. WWI was calculated as waist circumference divided by the square root of weight. The main outcomes of this study were all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. Mortality status and cause of death were determined by NHANES-linked National Death Index records through December 31, 2015. Cox proportional hazard models and Kaplan-Meier analysis were used to estimate Hazard Ratios (HR) and 95% CIs for mortality for all causes and cardiovascular diseases. Results A total of 26,882 participants with a mean WWI of 10.89 ± 0.01, of whom 49.23% were male. The average follow-up time was 68.95 ± 1.07 months, and 1870 participants were determined as deceased (4.99%), including 349 cardiovascular death (0.88%). The Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated a significant difference in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality between patients with WWI <11.33 and ≥11.33 (both log-rank testp < 0.0001). The fully adjusted Cox proportional hazard model indicated that a higher WWI level (≥ 11.33) was associated with an increased 95% risk for cardiovascular mortality (HR = 1.95, 95% CI 1.30‒2.93) and 68% risk for all-cause death (HR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.41‒2.00) compared with the counterparts. Conclusions Elevated WWI levels were associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality independently.

ABSTRACT

Gymnastics for All (GPT) has been gradually developing in different social contexts, but little has happened in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). The research presents a proposal for implementing GPT in this sector, from a dialogical, critical, and emancipatory perspective. This documentary and field research, with a qualitative approach, was organized in three phases, in two NGOs and with five educators. It was identified that the dialogical process and empowerment of educators (through practice), in the four phases of the process, were very significant; the training course had an impact on the qualification of educators; tutoring was very important for the development of classes and choreography. The presentation at the festival proclaimed the implementation process, constituting as a reality and an objective achieved for everyone involved, inspiring autonomy for future trajectories.
