ABSTRACT

Background: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) mainly consist of Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). These two categories have overlapping histopathological features and sometimes it is difficult to diagnose them into distinct category and such biopsies are categorised as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD-U). Recently, there has been an increase in interest to discover new biomarkers of IBD to differentiate UC and CD and predict their prognosis. Method: In the present study, 273 non-neoplastic colonic biopsies with clinicoendoscopic features of IBD were studied and categorized into UC (88; 32.3%) and CD (03; 1.1%) but a major chunk remained in category of IBD-U (182; 66.6%). 161 (58.9%) of these biopsies were then subjected to IHC for RB protein and ?-catenin and Serology for pANCA and ASCA was done in only 85 (31.13%) of these selected cases for identification of UC and CD on colonic biopsies. Result: 161 biopsies that were subjected to IHC analysis included 57 cases of UC, 03 cases of CD, and rest 101 cases of IBD-U. Out of 101 cases of IBD-U, 87 (86.13%) cases were reclassified as UC (61; 60.3%) and CD (14; 13.86%) on the basis of results of IHC and Serology. Conclusion: The two major tools IHC for ?-catenin and RB protein and the assay of serum ASCA and p-ANCA along with proper history and clinical presentation can act as a good adjunct to conventional H and E in subclassifying cases of IBD-U into UC and CD.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate clinical significance of diagnosis of the anti saccharomyces cerevisiae antibody (ASCA), pancreatic acini antibody (PAB)resistance, resistance to small goblet cell antibody (GAB),anti neutrophil cytoplasm anti-bodies (ANCA)for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)and the differential diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (UC)and crohn's disease (CD).Methods Collected 200 cases of test group sets of inflammatory bowel disease, serum by indirect immunofluo-rescence (IF).Results In the serum of 200 patients,106 cases with positive or weakly positive.Among them, the positive ASCA/weak positive 24 cases,14 cases of PAB,GAB 63 cases,28 cases ANCA,and included in ASCA group respectively and PAB group,GAB group,ANCA group.Positive rate of ANCA and GAB in the diagnosis of UC were 34% and 58%. Positive rate of ASCA and PAB in the diagnosis of CD were 28.6% and 38.1%.ANCA associated with GAB detection in the diagnosis of UC specific degree was 60%,ASCA associated with PAB detection in the diagnosis of CD specific degree was 75%.Conclusion Serum inflammatory bowel disease antibody spectrum in ASCA,ANCA,GBA and PAB four antibod-ies of joint detection has important guiding value to the diagnosis of IBD,also can be used as one of UC and CD in the differ-ential diagnosis methods.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe effects of rhubarb extract on Ca dissolved quantity in demineralized enmnel. Methods Demineralization was performed after treating tooth facing with rhubarb extract of different concentrations and deionized water. The concentration of Ca was detected by ASCA biochemical analyzer after demineralization. Results Dissolved quantity of demineralized Ca in the rhubarb extract group (2 mg/ml, 4mg/ml) was significantly lower than that of the deionized water group (P<0.01) and the rhubarb extract group (1 mg/ml) (P<0.05), but higher than that of 2% sodium fluoride group (P>0.05). Dissolved quantity of demineralized Ca in the rhubarb extract (1 mg/ml) group was significantly higher thanthat of 2% sodium fluoride group (P<0.01), but lower than that of the deionized water group(P>0.05).Conclusion The rhubarb exwact (2mg/ml, 4mg/ml) can inhibit Ca dissolution in demineralized enamel. The inidal effective concentration of rhubarb extract is 2 mg/ml.
