ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the influence of Jianpi Bufei Huatan Recipe (JBHR), a Chinese herbal compound with the actions of strengthening spleen, tonifying lung and resolving phlegm, on the pulmonary function of childhood bronchial asthma at remission stage, and to explore the possible therapeutic mechanism. Methods Sixty bronchial asthma children at remission stage were divided into treatment group and control group, 30 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with inhalation of fluticasone propionate, and additionally, the treatment group was given oral use of JBHR(mainly composed of Radix Astragali, Radix Pseudostellariae, fried Rhizoma Atrctylodis Macrocephalae, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Poria, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Rhizoma Pinelliae, prepared Radix Glycyrrhizae, calcined Os Draconis, calcined Concha Ostreae, and Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae). The therapeutic effect of the two groups was evaluated after treatment, and the changes of peak expiratory flow(PEF), peak expiratory flow variation(PEFv) were also observed after treatment for 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, a nd 12 month(s). Results (1)The total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.33%, and that of the control group was 83.33%, the difference being significant(P<0.05). (2) During the treatment, PEF was higher and PEFv was lower in the treatment group than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion JBHR could relieve the clinical symptoms, improve the pulmonary function and decrease the hyperactivity of airway of pediatric bronchial asthma at remission stage with lung-spleen qi deficiency.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of intravenous drip of Ligustrazine Injection(LI) for cold-type asthma in children and to explore its possible mechanism. Methods Seventy asthma children at the stage of acute attack were randomized into the treatment group and the control group. The two groups received routine western medicine and the treatment group received intravenous drip of LI additionally. The serum levels of interferon ?(IFN-?) and interleukin-4(IL-4) were observed, and the total therapeutic effect as well as the effect on main symptoms was evaluated. Results The total effective rate and the effect on the main symptoms in the treatment group were superior to those in the control group(P

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of Yupingfeng Powder(YP) on IgE level and T lymphocyte subpopulations of CD4+ and CD8+ in cough-variant asthma patients at remission stage. Methods Seventy-four cough-variant asthma(CVA) patients at remission stage were randomized into two groups. The treatment group(N=36) received oral use of YP and the control group(N=38) received oral use of placebo, the treatment lasting 8 weeks. The changes of serum IgE level and T lymphocyte subpopulations of CD4+ and CD8+ were observed before and after treatment. Results After treatment, serum IgE level and CD4+ percentage were decreased,CD8+ percentage increased, and CD4+/CD8+ decreased in the treatment group(P0.05),but were significant between the control group and the treatment group after treatment(P

ABSTRACT

【Objective】To observe the effect of Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction(MXSGD)on metabolism of oxygen free radicals in mice with bronchial asthma.【Methods】Forty BALB/c mice were randomized into 4 groups:normal group, model group,low-dose MXSGD group(20?g?kg~(-1)?d~(-1))and high-dose MXSGD group (80?g?kg~(-1)?d~(-1)).Except the normal group, the mice in other 3 groups received sensitization by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin(OVA)and challenge by inhalation of OVA to induce bronchial asthma.Meanwhile,MXSGD groups were given the corresponding doses according to the experimental design by gastric gavage, and normal group and model group received the same volume of normal saline for 27 days.Twelve-four hours after last challenge, blood sample was taken and homogenate of lung tissue was prepared for the detection of superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)contents in the plasma and the lung tissue.【Results】High-and low-dose MXSGD increased SOD and GSH-Px contents and decrease MDA content in the lung tissue and plasma(P

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the effect of Wamingfen on eosinophil apoptosis and oxygen free radicals and to study the influence of hydrocortisone on airway inflammation in asthma guinea pigs. Methods: Guinea pig models of asthma were induced by egg albumin. The effect of Wamingfen on plasma malonyl dialdehyde (MDA), blood glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px),erythrocytic superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity , serum hydrocortisone level and the percentage of EOS apoptosis in bronchial-alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were observed. Results: Wamingfen can apparently increase the content of GSH-Px ,SOD and serum hydrocortisone, promote the apoptosis of EOS and reduce the amount of MDA. Conclusion: Wamingfen can effectively increase serum hydrocortisone content, remove the oxygen free radical, promote eosinophil apoptosis and reduce the hyper-reactivity in the inflammatory airway.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the mechanism of Shema Zhichuan Liquid (SZL) for asthma. Methods Forty rats were allocated to normal control group (Group A), model group (Group B),western medicine group (Group C) and SZL group (Group D). Radioimmunoassay was used to observe the levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and the ratio of cAMP/cGMP.Results After treatment, cAMP level and cAMP/cGMP ratio were increased and cGMP level decereased in Group C and Group D as compared with Group B (P

ABSTRACT

【Objective】To observe the effect of ?-asaricin spray on guinea pigs bronchial asthma.【Methods】Thirty FMMU guinea pigs were equally randomized into three groups:A(treated with ?-asaricin spray),B(treated with aminophylline)and C(model).Ater 7-day treatment, the guinea pigs received nebulization of histamine and acetylcholine to induce asthma models. And the effect of ?-asaricin on asthmatic attack latency and fall latency in guinea pigs was observed. The isolated trachea was used to observe the effect of ?-asaricin on tension of isolated bronchial smooth muscle.Other 30 guinea pigs were also randomized into three groups. The guinea pigs were sensitized with 40?g/L ovalbumin and Al(OH)3 firstly, treated with nebulization therapy for 7 days, and then induced asthma by nebulization of ovalbumin to observe the effect on the degranulation of mastocytes in bronchus and lung tissue.【Results】?-asaricin prolonged asthma latency and fall latency, inhibited the degranulation of mastocytes induced by ovalbumin and Al(OH)3,and promoted the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle induced by histamine and acetylcholine, the difference being significant(P
