ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the efficacy difference between different needling manipulations in treating acute stroke with point-toward-point needling at scalp acupoints, for seeking the optimal treatment protocol. Method Ninety patients with acute stroke were randomized into a manual needling group, an electroacupuncture group, and a needle-retaining group, 30 cases each. In addition to the neurological treatment, the three groups were all given point-toward-point needling from Baihui (GV20) to Taiyang (EX-HN5) on the affected side, respectively with manual twisting, electroacupuncture and needle retaining methods. Before and after 14-day treatment, the Neurological Deficit Score (NDS), level of neuron specific enolase (NSE) and total efficacy were compared among the three groups. Result The NDS dropped significantly in the three groups after the intervention (P<0.05); the manual needling group showed the most significant improvement, better than the electroacupuncture group and needle retaining group. The level of NSE declined significantly in the three groups after the intervention (P<0.05); the decrease in the manual needling group was the most significant compared to that in the electroacupuncture group and needle retaining group. The total effective rate in the manual needling group (90.0%) was significantly higher than that in the electroacupuncture group and needle retaining group (P<0.05). Conclusion Point-toward-point needling at scalp acupoints with manual operation can effectively improve the neurological deficit in stroke patients, and the application of needling manipulations can further enhance the therapeutic efficacy, which is specific.

ABSTRACT

Professor learnt from several famous acupuncturists and develops his own manipulations based on his teachers' clinical thoughts and family manipulations. "" is for cervical spondylosis and cerebrovascular diseases, etc, the description including Fengfu (GV 16), Fengchi (GB 20), Tianzhu (BL 10), Yifeng (TE 17) and Wangu (GB 12). "" is for the syndromes of hyperactivity of liver , upper heat and lower cold, and the acupoints are Taichong (LR 3), Xiangu (ST 43), Xiaxi (GB 43) and the point in the dorso-ventral boundary after fingerweb edge between the 3rd and 4th toes. "" can improve local loop and pharyngeal function with Lianquan (CV 23) and Panglianquan (Extra), 1 besides Lianquan (CV 23). The traditional manipulations of "" is for stomach and abdomen diseases with Zhongwan (CV 12) and Xiawan (CV 10) in abdomen, and professor believes that it can treat mental illness which is the same treatment for different diseases.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the changes of cardiovascular function after acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6) respectively with slowly twirling needling and tube needling in healthy subjects, and to objectively evaluate the pain intensity of the two needling methods.Method A hundred healthy young subjects were randomized into group A and group B, 50 cases in each group. Neiguan (PC 6) point was selected for acupuncture in both groups. In the first stage, group A received acupuncture by slowly twirling needling, while group B received acupuncture with tube needling; in the second stage (a week later), group A received acupuncture with tube needling, while group B by slowly twirling needling. The Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) was observed after acupuncture for each subject, and ZXG-E automatic cardiovascular function detector was adopted to evaluate the cardiovascular function before puncturing, 5 min after puncturing, and 30 min after puncturing.Result The Sensory Pain Rating Index (S-PRI) and total SF-MPQ scores of slowly twirling needling were significantly different from that of tube needling (P<0.01). The Affective Pain Rating Index (A-PRI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and Present Pain Intensity (PPI) of slowly twirling needling method were significantly different from that of tube needling (P<0.01). At 5 min after needle insertion, the FEK and VER values of twirling needling were significantly different from that of tube needling (P<0.01).Conclusion The pain produced by slowly twirling needling is more variant and stronger than that by tube needling, and this pain variation can produce a positive effect on cardiovascular function.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in treating primary hypertension and the effect of twirling reinforcing-reducing manipulations on the treatment of primary hypertension. Methods Totally 126 patients with primary hypertension were randomized into treatment group 1 of 40 cases, treatment group 2 of 44 cases, and a control group of 42 cases. The treatment groups were both intervened by acupuncture at Quchi (LI 11), while twirling reinforcing-reducing manipulations (twirling towards left) were applied in treatment group 1, while the manipulations (twirling towards right) were applied in treatment group 2;the control group was intervened by medication. The change of blood pressure after 10 min treatment was observed, and the clinical efficacies were compared. Results The total effective rate was 85.0%in treatment group 1, versus 88.6%in treatment group 2 and 61.9% in the control group, and the total effective rates in the two treatment groups were significantly different from that in the control group (P0.05). Conclusions Acupuncture at Quchi (LI 11) is an effective approach in treating primary hypertension, and the reinforcing manipulation and reducing manipulation are both effective.

ABSTRACT

Several experiments were conducted to explore the relation between acupuncture manipulations and needling sensations based on M-QNS by describing needling intensity at quantification. The results indicated that the relation between acupuncture manipulations and peak value of needling sensation could not be confirmed when needling intensity and electric intensity were variables, and the peak value of needling sensation produced by manipulations should be a random variable under a certain circumstance. Sham acupuncture didn’t necessarily mean absence of stimulating intensity. Therefore, the subjects of acupuncture-moxibustion and medication are kind of heterogeneous, while acupuncture research should adopt observation of needling sensation and the peak value of needling sensation as the major research method as the basic action mechanism of acupuncture mainly involves neuroscience.

ABSTRACT

Acupuncture is an important method to cure diseases in TCM.which has been extensively accepted.Acupuncture manipulation is a key point for good clinical curative effect because different manipulations can bring out different organic reactions. The author summarized clinical experience on acupuncture manipulations for acupuncturists to improve medical effects.
