ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To observe therapeutic efficacy and safety of Zhenqi fuzheng granules in the adjunctive treatment of cervical cancer. METHODS:86 patients with cervical cancer were randomly divided into control group(43 cases)and observation group (43 cases). Control group was given intravenous dripping of Diphenhydramine hydrochloride injection 20 mg,Granisetron hydrochloride and glucose injection 5 mg,Cimetidine injection 20 mg at 0.5 h before chemotherapy. After 0.5 h of intravenous drip-ping,the patients received chemotherapy:Docetaxel injection 40 mg/m2,d1,d8,intravenous dripping;Cisplatin for injection 25 mg/m2,d1-3,intravenous dripping;21 d as a cycle,a total of 4-6 cycles. On the basis of control group, observation group was addi-tionally given Zhenqi fuzheng granules 5 g,twice 2 day. Clinical efficacies of 2 groups were observed as well as T cell subsets in-dexes [CD3+,CD4+,CD8+,natural killer cell(NK)],KPS scores, termination, terminal time, the times of chemotherapy and the oc-currence of toxic reaction before and after treatment. RESULTS:The total remission rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group;the proportion of termination of chemotherapy in observation group was significantly lower than control group;terminal time of chemotherapy was significantly shorter than control group;the times of chemotherapy was signifi-cantly more than control group;the incidence of gastrointestinal reaction, anemia, thrombocytopenia and leukopenia were signifi-cantly lower than control group, with statistical significance(P0.05). Before treatment, there was no statistical significance in T cell subsets indexes and KPS scores between 2 groups(P>0.05). After treatment,CD3+,CD4+ and NK cells in observation group were significantly higher than before treatment and control group, while CD8+ was significantly lower than before treatment and control group;KPS scores of 2 groups were significantly higher than before, and the observation group was significantly higher than the control group, with statistical significance(P0.05). CONCLUSIONS:On the basis of routine treatment,Zhenqi fuzheng granules can improve therapeutic efficacy, immune function and the quality of life, moreover, reduce toxic reaction in patients with cervical can-cer.

ABSTRACT

Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer and is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Gastric cancer is usually in advanced stage at diagnosis, without opportunity for curative resection. Chemotherapy is the major treatment for advanced gastric cancer (AGC), and other treatments include palliative surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biologic and immunologic therapy as well as Chinese medicine. Palliative therapy is used to reduce tumor load or complication occurrence, while radiotherapy is effective for locoregionally advanced gastdc cancer. At present, chemotherapy plays a leading role in AGC treatment and has a palliative effect on symptomatic patients. For advanced or metastatic gastric cancer, chemotherapy has always been the focus of studies. Results of studies of FAX, ECF/DCF regimens and Phrase ill clinical trials of REAL-2, ML17032 and SPIRITS have been released. With the application of EOX, XP, S-1/CDDP, IF, FOLFOX and XELOX regimens, the outcomes of advanced gastdc cancer are improved. However, there is no standard regimen accepted as supedor over others. Biologic and immunologic therapy are beneficial supplements to surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but are not yet the mainstream. All of these treatments have obvious side effects. Other comprehensive methods are of equal importance, such as Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, and psychological intervention. Combined with western medicine, the above methods have certain merits in relieving clinical symptoms, reducing toxicity, increasing effectiveness, improving quality of life, preventing metastasis and recurrence, reversing multidrug resistance of tumor cells, and curing ascites and managing cancer pain.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of a preoperative subconjunctival injection of mitomycin C or triamcinolone in patients with recurrent pterygium. METHODS: The records of 50 eyes of 50 patients who received excision of recurrent pterygium between June 2006 and January 2007 were reviewed. The recurrence rate and postoperative fibrovascular growth were compared in the preoperative subconjunctival mitomycin C, or triamcinolone injection group and non-treated control group. Additionally, the quantitative expression level of the transforming growth factor-beta1, -beta2 (TGF-beta1, -beta2), connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in excised sample of the pterygium was assessed. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference in the recurrence rate and the relative gene expression level of growth factors in the triamcinolone group and the mitomycin group when compared with the non-treated control group. Postoperative fibrovascular proliferation was more severe in the triamcinolone group than other groups. CONCLUSIONS: Subconjunctival mitomycin C or triamcinolone as adjunctive therapy before pterygium excision did not influence the recurrence rate of pterygium.
