Resumo: Análises comparativas, baseadas em indicadores de desempenho clínico, para monitorar a qualidade da assistência hospitalar vêm sendo realizadas há décadas em vários países, com destaque para a razão de mortalidade hospitalar padronizada (RMHP). No Brasil, ainda são escassos os estudos e a adoção de instrumentos metodológicos que permitam análises regulares do desempenho das instituições. O objetivo deste artigo foi explorar o uso da RMHP para a comparação do desempenho dos hospitais remunerados pelo Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). O Sistema de Informações Hospitalares foi a fonte de dados sobre as internações de adultos realizadas no Brasil entre 2017 e 2019. A abordagem metodológica para estimar a RMHP foi adaptada aos dados disponíveis e incluiu as causas de internação (diagnóstico principal) responsáveis por 80% dos óbitos. O número de óbitos esperados foi estimado por um modelo de regressão logística que incluiu variáveis preditoras amplamente descritas na literatura. A análise foi realizada em duas etapas: (i) nível da internação e (ii) nível do hospital. O modelo final de ajuste de risco apresentou estatística C de 0,774, valor considerado adequado. Foi observada grande variação da RMHP, especialmente entre os hospitais com pior desempenho (1,54 a 6,77). Houve melhor desempenho dos hospitais privados em relação aos hospitais públicos. Apesar de limites nos dados disponíveis e desafios ainda vislumbrados para a sua utilização mais refinada, a RMHP é aplicável e tem potencial para se tornar um elemento importante na avaliação do desempenho hospitalar no SUS.


Abstract: Comparative analyses based on clinical performance indicators to monitor the quality of hospital care have been carried out for decades in several countries, most notably the hospital standardized mortality ratio (HSMR). In Brazil, studies and the adoption of methodological tools that allow regular analysis of the performance of institutions are still scarce. This study aimed to assess the use of HSMR to compare the performance of hospitals funded by the Brazilian Unified National Health System (SUS). The Hospital Information System was the source of data on adult hospitalizations in Brazil from 2017 to 2019. The methodological approach to estimate HSMR was adapted to the available data and included the causes of hospitalization (main diagnosis) responsible for 80% of deaths. The number of expected deaths was estimated using a logistic regression model that included predictor variables widely described in the literature. The analysis was conducted in two stages: (i) hospitalization level and (ii) hospital level. The final risk adjustment model showed a C-statistic of 0.774, which is considered adequate. The variation in HSMR was wide, especially among the worst-performing hospitals (1.54 to 6.77). Private hospitals performed better than public hospitals. Although the limits of the available data and the challenges still face its more refined use, HSMR is applicable and has the potential to become an important tool for assessing hospital performance in the SUS.


Resumen: Durante décadas se han realizado en varios países análisis comparativos basados en indicadores de desempeño clínico para monitorear la calidad de la atención hospitalaria, con énfasis en la razón de mortalidad hospitalaria estandarizada (RMHE). En Brasil, aún son escasos los estudios y la adopción de instrumentos metodológicos que permitan análisis regulares del desempeño de las instituciones. El objetivo fue explorar el uso de la RMHE para comparar el desempeño de los hospitales remunerados por el Sistema Único de Salud (SUS). El Sistema de Información Hospitalaria fue la fuente de datos sobre las hospitalizaciones de adultos realizadas en Brasil entre el 2017 y el 2019. El enfoque metodológico para estimar la RMHE se adaptó a los datos disponibles e incluyó las causas de hospitalización (diagnóstico principal) responsables del 80% de las muertes. El número de muertes esperadas se estimó mediante un modelo de regresión logística que incluyó variables predictoras ampliamente descritas en la literatura. El análisis se realizó en dos etapas: (i) nivel de la hospitalización y (ii) nivel del hospital. El modelo final de ajuste de riesgo presentó una estadística C de 0,774, valor considerado adecuado. Se observó una gran variación en la RMHE, especialmente entre los hospitales con peor desempeño (1,54 a 6,77). Hubo un mejor desempeño de los hospitales privados en comparación con los hospitales públicos. A pesar de las limitaciones de los datos disponibles y de los desafíos aún previstos para su uso más refinado, la RMHE es aplicable y tiene el potencial de convertirse en un elemento importante en la evaluación del desempeño hospitalario en el SUS.

Abstract Background Research has consistently shown that some children are more vulnerable at the time of school readiness. Better understanding the characteristics of these children is therefore important. Most studies have used a variable-based approach, which may mask the presence of small but important subgroups of children with mixed patterns of readiness strengths and weaknesses. Identifying subgroups with mixed readiness patterns using a person-centered approach matters because their developmental trajectories might differ in important ways from children with broader difficulties across all readiness domains. Objective This systematic review attempts to synthesize existing profiles of school readiness conducted on preschool-aged children and to describe how these various profiles are associated with children's academic achievement and social adjustment during their school years. Specifically, we described how the school readiness profiles vary in number of profiles identified and differences in the specific domains of school readiness. We further describe the school readiness profiles and how they predict later academic and social outcomes. Furthermore, we focus on profile differences between at-risk and non-at-risk preschoolers. Methods Longitudinal studies published between 2005 and 2022 on profiles of school readiness before school entry and at least one subsequent academic and/or social outcomes were extracted from five databases. Eight articles were included in this systematic review out of the 117 screened peer-reviewed articles. Results All the studies incorporated both the cognitive and socioemotional domains of school readiness in their profiles. Fifteen profiles of school readiness at preschool age were identified based on the child level of cognitive and socioemotional skills, with 7 profiles at risk of later academic and social difficulties. Despite variation, children in these at-risk profiles of school readiness shared similar features. Conclusion This literature review provides an exhaustive summary on the number of profiles and domains of school readiness most frequently reported in studies using a person-centered approach. Yielding an in-depth description of at-risk profiles of school readiness can help designing early preventive intervention for these children.

ABSTRACT

Objective: the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between death distress, psychological adjustment, optimism, pessimism and perceived stress among nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: this study was designed as cross-sectional/cohort. The population of the study involved 408 nurses from Northern Cyprus, which are registered as full members of the Nurse Council. The sample comprised 214 nurses, who volunteered to participate in the study. The study data was collected using a web-based online survey (Demographic form, the Coronavirus Stress Measure, The Optimism and Pessimism Questionnaire, The Brief Adjustment Scale-6, The Death Distress Scale). Results: the results indicated that perceived stress significantly and negatively predicted optimism (β = -0.21, p < 0.001) and pessimism (β = 0.38, p < 0.001). Perceived stress had significant and positive predictive effects on psychological adjustment (β = 0.31, p < 0.001) and death distress (β = 0.17, p < 0.01). Further analysis results revealed that pessimism mediates the association of stress with psychological adjustment and death distress; however, optimism only mediates the effect of stress on psychological adjustment among nurses. Conclusion: a low level of pessimism is effective in strengthening nurses' psychological adjustment skills againt perceived stress and death distress. Nurses should consider behavioral strategies to help reduce the level of pessimism during periods such as pandemics.


Objetivo: el objetivo de este estudio fue investigar la relación entre la ansiedad ante la muerte, el ajuste psicológico, el optimismo, el pesimismo y el estrés percibido entre los profesionales de enfermería que trabajaron durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Método: este estudio se diseñó como un estudio transversal/de cohortes. La población del estudio incluía a 408 profesionales de enfermería del Chipre del Norte registrados como miembros de pleno derecho del Consejo de Enfermería. La muestra consistió en 214 profesionales de enfermería que se ofrecieron voluntariamente a participar en el estudio. Los datos del estudio se recogieron a través de una encuesta online basada en la web (formulario demográfico, Medida de Estrés por Coronavirus, Cuestionario de Optimismo y Pesimismo, Escala Breve de Adaptación-6 y Escala de Sufrimiento por Muerte). Resultados: los resultados indicaron que el estrés percibido predecía significativa y negativamente el optimismo (β = -0,21, p < 0,001) y pesimismo (β = 0,38, p < 0,001). El estrés percibido tuvo efectos predictivos significativos y positivos sobre el ajuste psicológico (β = 0,31, p < 0,001) y angustia de muerte (β = 0,17, p < 0,01). Los resultados de otros análisis revelaron que el pesimismo es mediador en la asociación del estrés con el ajuste psicológico y la angustia de muerte; sin embargo, el optimismo sólo es mediador del efecto del estrés sobre el ajuste psicológico entre los profesionales de enfermería. Conclusión: un bajo nivel de pesimismo es eficaz para reforzar las habilidades de ajuste psicológico de los profesionales de enfermería frente al estrés percibido y la angustia por la muerte. Los profesionales de enfermería deberían considerar estrategias conductuales para ayudar a reducir el nivel de pesimismo durante periodos como las pandemias.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: During development, children face a number of demands and cognitive, behavioral, and social challenges necessary for growth. Cognitive skills make individuals competent and allow them to interact with their environment. OBJECTIVE: To identify the cognitive skills that promote better social insertion in children with autism spectrum disorder within 12 months. DESIGN AND SETTING: Prospective cohort study METHODS: In this study, 21 children aged 3-12 years were assessed, and their mothers were interviewed. Children were enrolled in regular or special autistic schools. Twelve months after the first assessment, the same children participated in the second assessment. In individual interviews, mothers provided data by answering the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale. Each child was assessed individually using the fourth edition of the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale 4th Edition. RESULTS: In the first assessment, the Stanford Binet areas and total scores correlated with the communication domains, daily life abilities, socialization, and total score of the Vineland Scale. After 12 months, a correlation was observed between the Stanford Binet areas and the total and communication domains, daily life abilities, socialization, motor abilities, and total score on the Vineland Scale. CONCLUSION: Logic mathematics and memory promote better social insertion in children with autism spectrum disorder. General cognitive ability promotes communication.

Abstract Growth of plants is severely reduced due to water stress by affecting photosynthesis including photosystem II (PSII) activity and electron transport. This study emphasised on comparative and priority targeted changes in PSII activity due to progressive drought in seven populations of Panicum antidotale (P. antidotale) collected from Cholistan Desert and non-Cholistan regions. Tillers of equal growth of seven populations of P. antidotale grown in plastic pots filled with soil were subjected progressive drought by withholding water irrigation for three weeks. Progressive drought reduced the soil moisture content, leaf relative water content, photosynthetic pigments and fresh and dry biomass of shoots in all seven populations. Populations from Dingarh Fort, Dingarh Grassland and Haiderwali had higher growth than those of other populations. Cholistani populations especially in Dingarh Grassland and Haiderwali had greater ability of osmotic adjustment as reflected by osmotic potential and greater accumulation of total soluble proteins. Maximum H2O2 under water stress was observed in populations from Muzaffargarh and Khanewal but these were intermediate in MDA content. Under water stress, populations from Muzaffargarh and Dingarh Fort had greater K+ accumulation in their leaves. During progressive drought, non-Cholistani populations showed complete leaf rolling after 23 days of drought, and these populations could not withstand with more water stress condition while Cholistani populations tolerated more water stress condition for 31 days. Moreover, progressive drought caused PSII damages after 19 days and it became severe after 23 days in non-Cholistani populations of P. antidotale than in Cholistani populations.


Resumo O crescimento das plantas é severamente reduzido devido ao estresse hídrico, afetando a fotossíntese, incluindo a atividade do fotossistema II (PSII) e o transporte de elétrons. Este estudo enfatizou as mudanças comparativas e prioritárias na atividade do PSII devido à seca progressiva em sete populações de Panicum antidotale (P. antidotale) coletadas no Deserto do Cholistão e regiões fora do Cholistão. Perfilhos de igual crescimento de sete populações de P. antidotale cultivadas em vasos de plástico cheios de solo foram submetidos à seca progressiva, retendo a irrigação com água por três semanas. A seca progressiva reduziu o teor de umidade do solo, teor de água relativo nas folhas, pigmentos fotossintéticos e biomassa fresca e seca dos brotos em todas as sete populações. Populações de Dingarh Fort, Dingarh Grassland e Haiderwali tiveram maior crescimento do que as de outras populações. ABSTRACT

INTRODUCCIÓN: La pandemia a nivel mundial afectó gravemente los servicios de prevención y tratamiento de las Enfermedades No Transmisibles, viéndose las personas con cáncer afectadas por su tamizaje, tratamiento y acompañamiento a fin de vida. En este contexto, el cuidado brindado por enfermería se hizo complejo, generando impotencia y frustración frente al aislamiento y la mortalidad. OBJETIVO: Explorar la percepción de las enfermeras respecto al cuidado otorgado a personas en cuidados paliativos oncológicos en el contexto de la pandemia por COVID-19, en la Región Metropolitana de Chile. MÉTODOS: Estudio cualitativo exploratorio descriptivo en base al análisis de contenido temático de Krippendorff. Contó con una muestra intencionada de 6 enfermeras de unidades de cuidados paliativos. La recolección de datos fue con entrevistas semiestructuradas audio grabadas por video conexión, tras dar el consentimiento, entre septiembre del 2020 y abril del 2021. Las entrevistas trascritas fueron analizadas por cada uno de los investigadores por separado, para luego triangular los hallazgos y develar las categorías, logrando la saturación de datos. RESULTADOS: Las enfermeras de CP que participaron en esta investigación se vieron enfrentadas a desafíos generados por la pandemia, sin embargo, reconocen haber logrado un cuidado paliativo cercano en base a las adaptaciones en la gestión del cuidado, la cual estuvo mediada por factores facilitadores en el proceso. Esta experiencia las llevó a dar sentido al cuidado brindado, valorando las adecuaciones realizadas y el compromiso asumido en pos de mantener un cuidado humanizado a pesar de los obstáculos que se fueron presentando. CONCLUSIÓN: El afrontar la pandemia permitió a las enfermeras de cuidados paliativos adaptarse a través de una gestión del cuidado oportuna, segura, innovadora y humanizada, lo que dio sentido a dicho cuidado, relevando el desarrollo de los programas de cuidados paliativos en personas con limitación de la vida.


INTRODUCTION: The worldwide pandemic severely affected services related to the prevention and treatment of Non-Communicable Diseases, especially in people with cancer who require screening, treatment, and accompaniment at the end of life. In this context, the care provided by nurses became complex, creating feelings of impotence and frustration in the face of isolation and mortality. OBJECTIVE: To explore nurses' perceptions of the oncologic palliative care provided during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Metropolitan Region of Chile. METHODS: Descriptive exploratory qualitative study based on Krippendorff thematic content analysis. The study had an intentional sample of 6 nurses from palliative care units. Data was collected between September 2020 and April 2021, using semi-structured video interviews which were audio-recorded after obtaining consent. The transcribed interviews were analyzed by each of the researchers separately to triangulate the findings and reveal the categories that characterized the nurses' perceptions. RESULTS: While the PC nurses who participated in this research were faced with challenges generated by the pandemic, they were able to provide close palliative care based on adaptations in care management, adaptations facilitated by factors in the process. This experience enabled them to give meaning to the care provided, value the adjustments and the commitment made to maintain humanized care despite the obstacles. CONCLUSION: Facing the pandemic prompted palliative care nurses to adapt through timely, safe, innovative, and humanized care management, giving meaning to such care and highlighting the importance of palliative care programs in people with life limitations.

ABSTRACT

El propósito de la investigación fue desarrollar una escala para medir el proceso de ajuste a la vida universitaria. Este constructo multifactorial se basa en un modelo teórico de tres dimensiones: académica, social e institucional. La muestra principal estuvo conformada por 673 estudiantes: 42.1 % mujeres, 57.7 % hombres y 0.3 % otro, con un promedio de 18.29 años. En el primer análisis se encontraron evidencias asociadas al contenido de las dimensiones de la escala denominada AjusteU. En el análisis de validez convergente se halló una correlación de 0.582 a un nivel de significancia del 0.01 (bilateral) con el instrumento CAVU, otra medida del ajuste a la vida universitaria. En el tercer análisis se validó el planteamiento teórico con los datos empíricos mediante un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales. Finalmente, en el análisis predictivo se comprobó que la puntuación de la escala AjusteU se asoció significativamente con el rendimiento del primer período universitario. Se concluye que estas evidencias empíricas permiten un uso adecuado de los resultados, especialmente en la toma de decisiones oportunas para favorecer el proceso de transición de secundaria a la educación superior. La principal limitación fue la aplicación de la escala en modalidad remota en el contexto de pandemia, por lo que las experiencias del estudiantado podrían ser diferentes en un entorno presencial


The purpose of the research was to develop a scale to measure college adjustment. The theorical model was based on three dimensions: academical, social and institutional. The principal sample was conformed for 673 students: 42.1 % women, 57.7 % men and 0.3 % other, with an average of 18.29 years old. In the first analysis were found evidence associated to the content of the dimensions of the scale denominated AjusteU. In the validity convergent analysis was found a correlation of 0.582 to a significance level of 0.01 (bilateral) with the instrument CAVU, other measure that is related to the adjustment process. In the third analysis, the theoretical approach was validated with empirical data using a structural equation model. Finally, in the predictive analysis was proved that the scoring of the scale AjusteU was associated significantly with the performance of the first period of college. The conclusion is that this empirical evidence allows an appropriate use of their results, specifically in the opportune decision making to favor the transition process from high school to higher education. The main limitation was the application of the scale in the remote modality in the pandemic context, therefore the experiences of the students might be different in an on-site experience.


O objetivo da pesquisa foi desenvolver uma escala para medir o processo de adaptação à vida universitária. Este construto multifatorial é baseado em um modelo teórico de três dimensões: acadêmica, social e institucional. A amostra principal foi composta por 673 estudantes, sendo: 42.1 % mulheres, 57.7 % homens e 0.3 % outros, com idade média de 18.29 anos. Na primeira análise, foram encontradas evidências associadas ao conteúdo das dimensões da escala denominada AjusteU. Na análise de validade convergente, uma correlação de 0.582 foi encontrada em um nível de significância de 0.01 (bilateral) com o instrumento CAVU, outra medida de adaptação à vida universitária. Na terceira análise, a abordagem teórica foi validada com dados empíricos usando um modelo de equações estruturais. Por fim, na análise preditiva verificouse que a pontuação da escala AjusteU esteve significativamente associada ao desempenho do primeiro período universitário. Concluise que estas evidências empíricas permitem uma utilização adequada dos resultados, sobretudo na tomada de decisões oportunas que favoreçam o processo de transição do ensino médio para o superior. A principal limitação do estudo foi a aplicação da escala de forma remota no contexto de pandemia, de modo que as experiências do corpo discente poderiam ser diferentes em um ambiente presencial.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Determinar los factores asociados con el síndrome del impostor (IP) en estudiantes de Medicina de 6 facultades peruanas. Material y métodos: Estudio multicéntrico transversal analítico realizado en estudiantes del primer al sexto año en 6 regiones peruanas. Se incluyeron características sociodemográficas, académicas y psicológicas mediante la escala de depresión, ansiedad y estrés, la escala de autoestima de Rosenberg y la escala del Fenómeno del Impostor de Clance. Los modelos lineales generalizados se construyeron mediante razones de prevalencia estimada brutas y ajustadas. Resultados: De 2.231 estudiantes de Medicina, el 54,3% eran mujeres y el 30,6% padecía IP. Se encontró asociación entre el IP y la depresión (RPa = 1,51; IC95%, 1,27-1,79), la ansiedad (RPa = 2,25; IC95%, 1,75-2,90), el estrés (RPa = 1,37; IC95%, 1,19-1,57) y el sexo mujer (RPa = 1,12; IC95%, 1,01-1,26). Conclusiones: De cada 10 estudiantes de Medicina, 3 sufren IP; tener depresión, ansiedad o estrés, ser mujer y/o cursar el cuarto anno fueron los factores predisponentes.


Objective: To determine the factors associated with impostor syndrome in medical students from six regions of Peru. Material and methods: A multicentre, cross-sectional study was conduced on students from first to the sixth year in six Peruvian regions. Sociodemographic, academic, and psychological characteristics were included through the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Clance Imposter Phenomenon Scale. Generalized linear models were performed using crude and adjusted estimated prevalence ratios. Results: Of 2,231 medical students, 54.3% were female and 30.6% had the impostor phenomenon. An association was found between the PI and those who suffered from depression (aPR=1.51; 95%CI, 1.27-1.79), anxiety (aPR = 2.25; 95%CI, 1.75-2.90), stress (aPR=1.37; 95%CI, 1.19-1.57), and being female (aPR = 1.12; 95%CI, 1.01-1.26). Conclusions: Three out of 10 medical students suffer from PI; having some level of depression, anxiety, stress, being a woman, and/or attending the fourth academic year were predisposing factors for their development.

Introducción: la úlcera venosa es la heridade origen vascular que más se presentaen la población adulta; afecta la calidad de vida,por loque se requiereun abordajeinterdisciplinarioparala atenciónde las personas que la padecen. Se describieron las variablessociodemográficas y la evolución de la calidad de vidahasta la cicatrización y se construyó un modelo de regresión logística para explicar las variables asociadas a tener lapeorcalidad de vida. Resultados:el 28,8%de los participantes obtuvieron 64 o más puntos, es decir, grado de afección alto durantela primera mediciónde la calidad de vida;en el 68,8%el puntaje fue63o menos, lo que significó afecciónmoderadaysolo el 2,4%tuvo baja afección.Laspeores puntuaciones se registraron enmujeres,participantes de mayor edad y quienes tenían mayor compromiso de la herida; la afección involucró las dimensiones Estado emocional, Estética, Función social y Actividades domésticas,aunque hubo evolución favorablede la calidad de vidamientrasiba cicatrizandola úlcera. ntroduction: Venous ulcers are the most common vascular injury in the adult population. They affect the quality of life, so people who suffer from venous ulcers require an interdisciplinary approach to their care. Objective: To describe clinical and social variables that affect the health-related quality of life of a group of adults with venous ulcers. Methods: Observational cohort study carried out with 80 people examined in three medical centers in Medellín (Colombia) and who were given the Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire to answer. Sociodemographic variables and the quality-of-life evolution until scarring were described. A logistic regression model was built to explain the variables associated with having the poorest quality of life. Results:There were28.8% of the participants who scored 64 or more points on the first quality of life measurement, which indicates a highly affected quality of life; 68.8% scored 63 or less, indicating a moderately affected quality of life, while only 2.4% indicated a slightly affected quality of life. The worst scores were seen among women, older participants, and those with greater ulcer severity. The dimensions of emotional status, cosmesis, social interaction, and domestic activities were affected, although there was a favorable evolution of the quality of life while the ulcer was healing. Conclusions: Health-related quality of life is highly affected in people with venous ulcers and is more common in those with constant pain, larger and older sores, and those with poor health perceptions. Therefore, timely professional and interdisciplinary healthcare interventions are required to achieve wound healing and wellness and improve quality of life


Introdução:a úlcera venosa é a ferida de origem vascular que ocorre mais frequentemente na população adulta e afeta a qualidade de vida, por isso é necessária uma abordagem interdisciplinar para o cuidado das pessoas que a sofrem. Objetivo:descrever as variáveis clínicas e sociais que interferem na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde de um grupo de adultos com úlcera venosa.Métodos:estudo de coorte observacional; incluíram-se 80 pessoas avaliadas em três clínicas em Medellín (Colômbia), nas quais foi aplicado o instrumento de avaliação Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire. Descreveram-se as variáveis sociodemográficas e a evolução da qualidade de vida até a cicatrizaçãoe construiu-se um modelo de regressão logística para explicar as variáveis associadas à pior qualidade de vida.Resultados: 28,8% dos participantes obtiveram 64 ou mais pontos, ou seja, alto grau de condição na primeira mensuração da qualidade de vida; em 68,8% a pontuação foi de 63 ou menos, o que significa condição moderada e apenas 2,4% em condição baixa. As piores pontuações foram registradas em mulheres, participantes mais velhos e naqueles com maior complicação da ferida; a afecção,envolvia as dimensões Estado Emocional, Estética, Função Social e Atividades Domésticas, embora houvesse evolução favorável da qualidade de vida enquanto a úlcera cicatrizava. Conclusões:a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde é altamente afetada em pessoas com úlcera venosa, sendo mais frequente naquelas com dor constante, feridasmaiores, mais antigas e com má percepção de saúde; portanto, é necessária intervenção oportuna profissional e interdisciplinar em saúde para alcançar a cicatrização e o bem-estar e melhorar a qualidade de vida

ABSTRACT

Objective. The work sough to know the adaptation strategies of students from Universidad del Quindío with motor functional diversity. Method. Descriptive qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through an in-depth interview with nine undergraduate students with moderate motor functional diversity, in face-to-face class attendance modality during the period 2022-2 at Universidad del Quindío (Colombia) with age ≥ 18 years and having scored from 20 - 40 in the Barthel index. The definition of the number of participants was conducted through theoretical saturation. Results. Seven categories emerged from the descriptive analysis of the interviews: 1) support; 2) affection; 3) life project; 4) personal growth; 5) spirituality; 6) autonomy, and 7) education. Together, they reveal important aspects on the way students have adapted to the university campus and how interpersonal relations can contribute to promoting resilience processes Conclusion. Support and affection provided by the social setting play a fundamental role in the adaptation of students with motor functional diversity, improving their mental health, generating resilience, and increasing their self-esteem. Noting that in spite of lifestyle changes after the acquisition of the diversity, the students set novel goals and develop new abilities that contribute to complying with their life project; likewise, they have set into practice and can recognize their coping mechanisms, acquiring qualities, like resilience and autonomy.


Objetivo. Conocer las estrategias de adaptación de los estudiantes con diversidad funcional motora de la universidad del Quindío. Método. Estudio cualitativo de tipo descriptivo con enfoque fenomenológico. Los datos se recolectaron a través de una entrevista a profundidad con 9 estudiantes de pregrado con diversidad funcional motora moderada, en modalidad presencial en el período 2022-2 de la Universidad del Quindío (Colombia) con una edad igual o mayor a 18 años y haber puntuado de 20-40 en el índice de Barthel. La definición del total de participantes se realizó por saturación teórica. Resultados. Del análisis descriptivo de las entrevistas surgieron siete categorías: 1) apoyo; 2) afecto; 3) proyecto de vida; 4) crecimiento personal; 5) espiritualidad; 6) autonomía y 7) educación. En conjunto, revelan aspectos importantes sobre la forma en que los estudiantes se han adaptado al campus universitario y cómo las relaciones interpersonales pueden contribuir a la promoción de procesos de resiliencia Conclusión. El apoyo y el afecto brindado por el entorno social juega un papel fundamental en la adaptación de los estudiantes con diversidad funcional motora, mejorando su salud mental, generando resiliencia y aumentando su autoestima. Constatando que a pesar de los cambios en el estilo de vida tras la adquisición de la diversidad los alumnos se plantean novedosas metas y desarrollan nuevas habilidades que contribuyen al cumplimiento de su proyecto de vida, así mismo, han puesto en práctica y pueden reconocer sus mecanismos de afrontamiento adquiriendo cualidades como la resiliencia y la autonomía.

Juntos, eles revelam aspectos importantes sobre a forma como os alunos se adaptaram ao campus universitário e como as relações interpessoais podem contribuir para promover processos de resiliência. Conclusão. O apoio e o afeto proporcionado pelo meio social têm papel fundamental na adaptação de alunos com diversidade motora funcional, melhorando sua saúde mental, gerando resiliência e aumentando sua autoestima. Constatando que apesar das mudanças no estilo de vida após a aquisição da diversidade, os alunos traçam novas metas e desenvolvem novas habilidades que contribuem para a realização de seu projeto de vida, da mesma forma, colocam em prática e conseguem reconhecer seus mecanismos de enfrentamento adquirindo qualidades como resiliência e autonomia.

ABSTRACT

Background: Spiritual beliefs include the relationship to a superior being and recognition of a sense that there is something greater than myself. Psychological health is not just absence of mental disorder but a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his/her own abilities, can cope up with normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to his/her community. Aims and Objectives: The present study was designed to analyze the impact of spiritual practices on memory, cognitive functions, psychological health, adjustment level, and stress response. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted in two phases on 150 subjects. In the first phase of study, subjects were divided into low, average and high spirituality groups on the basis of spirituality scores. Each group was required to perform memory test, stroop test along-with assessment of psychological health, and adjustment level. Their basal level of stress parameters was recorded. A stressor was introduced and stress parameters were again assessed. Subjects were asked to perform spiritual practices for 1 month duration and the parameters were again assessed. ANOVA and post hoc tests were used for inter group comparison. Student’s t-test was used to analyze data between baseline values and post spirituality values for various parameters. Results: On comparison of parameters in low, average and high spirituality groups, significant and non-significant results were obtained at baseline level and after 1 month practice of spirituality. Conclusion: Spiritual practices have positive effect on parameters studied.

O objetivo do estudo foi investigar o impacto das variáveis habilidades sociais, resolução de problemas sociais, automonitoria, autoeficácia e coping na adaptação acadêmica em estudantes de instituições de ensino superior públicas e privadas. Participaram 637 estudantes de ambos os sexos, sendo 36,5% (115) homens de instituições públicas e 22,3% (72) de instituições privadas, com idade variando entre 18 e 38 anos (M=24,7; DP=6,3), de diferentes graduações. Foram utilizados o Inventário de Resolução de Problemas Sociais, o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais, a Escala de Automonitoria, a Escala de Autoeficácia Acadêmica de Estudantes do Ensino Superior, o Inventário de Estratégias de Coping e o Questionário de Vivências Acadêmicas-reduzido. A autoeficácia na gestão acadêmica (40,9%) e a autoafirmação na expressão de afeto positivo (13,7%) apresentaram maior impacto para os estudantes de instituições públicas e privadas, podendo contribuir com possíveis intervenções no processo de adaptação ao ensino superior. Pesquisas prospectivas podem investigar questões relacionadas a dados sociodemográficos.(AU)


The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of the variables Social Skills, Resolution of Social Problems, Self-monitoring, Self-efficacy and Coping on Academic Adaptation in students from public and private higher education institutions. 637 students of both sexes participated, being 36.5% (115) men from public institutions and 22.3% (72) from private institutions, aged between 18 to 38 years (M = 24.7; SD = 6.3), of different grades. The Social Problem Solving Inventory, the Social Skills Inventory, the Self-Monitring Scale, the Higher Education Students' Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, the Coping Strategies Inventory and the Academic Experiences-Reduced Questionnaire were used. Self-efficacy in Academic Management (40.9%) and Self-affirmation in the Expression of Positive Affection (13.7%) had a greater impact on students from public and private institutions, which may contribute to possible interventions in the process of adapting to Higher Education. Prospective research can investigate issues related to sociodemographic data.(AU)


El objetivo del estudio fue investigar el impacto de las variables Habilidades sociales, Resolución de problemas sociales, Autocontrol, Autoeficacia y Afrontamiento en la adaptación académica en estudiantes de instituciones de educación superior públicas y privadas. ABSTRACT

Escala de Satisfação com a Escolha do Curso (ESEC) para uso no contexto brasileiro. Participaram deste estudo 674 estudantes universitários, com idade variando entre 18 e 62 anos (M= 23,18, DP= 5,81). Seis modelos fatoriais unidimensionais foram testados com o objetivo de identificar a solução mais parcimoniosa para o instrumento. Sugere-se uma solução final com quatro itens, ao invés de seis. Análises de TRI foram realizadas e observou-se alta fidedignidade da escala para mensuração de baixos níveis do traço latente. A ESEC esteve significativamente correlacionada com os cinco fatores de personalidade, adaptabilidade de carreira e satisfação com a vida. Indica-se que a ESEC apresenta evidências de validade favoráveis ao seu uso no contexto brasileiro, mas o instrumento identifica melhor indivíduos insatisfeitos com a escolha do curso do que os satisfeitos. This study aimed to adapt and obtain validity evidence for the Academic Major Satisfaction Scale (AMSS) in the Brazilian context. The instrument was tested in 674 college students, with ages ranging from 18 to 62 (M = 23.18, SD = 5.81). Six unidimensional models were tested in order to find the parsimonious solution to the instrument. A four-item final solution is suggested, instead of the original 6-item solution. IRT was applied and it was identified that the AMSS had high reliability in individuals with low levels of latent trait. AMSS was significantly correlated with the big-five personality factors, career adapt-ability and life satisfaction. AMSS presents favorable evidences of validity to the Brazilian context, although the scale is more efficient in identifying students who are unsatisfied rather than satisfied with their college major. Este estudio buscó adaptar y obtener evidencia de la validez de la Escala de Satisfacción de Elección de Curso (ESEC) para su uso en el contexto brasileño. Participaron un total de 674 estudiantes universitarios, con edades comprendidas entre los 18 y los 62 años (M = 23,18, DT = 5,81). Se probaron seis modelos factoriales unidimensionales con el fin de identificar la solución más parsimoniosa para el instrumento. Se sugiere una solución final con cuatro elementos en lugar de seis. El modelo de respuesta graduada se aplicó a los ítems que funcionaron bien a niveles bajos del constructo. La ESEC se correlacionó significativamente con los cinco factores de personalidad, adaptabilidad profesional y satisfacción con la vida. Se indica que la ESEC presenta evidencia de validez favorable a su uso en el contexto brasileño, pero el instrumento identifica mejor a los insatisfechos con la elección del curso que a los satisfechos. Introduction: mass contamination by the new coronavirus caused enough damage for the pandemic to extend indefinitely Objective: the objective of this study was to analyze the emotional factors acquired by students from a dentistry course during the COVID-19 pandemic period and the influences related to the resumption of face-to-face activities. Material and method: it is an observational, cross-sectional and analytical research conducted at a public university in the state of Pará, Brazil. A research questionnaire, prepared by the authors and validated by the ethics committee of the Federal University of Pará, was applied to the academic community for a period of three months (November 2020 to January 2021). The analysis was performed using the Excel program, Kappa statistics and the Chi-squared test, whose results were presented as frequency and percentage. Result: a total of 188 dental students participated in the research. The findings proved to be in accordance with the hypothesis generated by the researchers, about 19.2% had emotional crises and 3.7% increase in the lockdown period. As for the expectations for care services, there was an increase in the oppressive state of psychic crises (anxiety, stress, anger, fear), considered influential in the cognition of behavioral traits during post-pandemic care. Conclusion: the study identified that the emotional changes acquired in the pandemic outbreak had a negative impact on student performance; however, depressive symptoms were expressed in graduating students.


Introdução: a contaminação em massa pelo novo coronavírus promoveu danos suficientes para que a pandemia se estendesse por tempo indeterminado. Objetivo: analisar os fatores emocionais adquiridos por estudantes do curso de odontologia no período pandêmico COVID-19 e as influências relacionadas ao retorno das atividades presenciais. Material e método: pesquisa observacional, transversal e analítica, realizada em uma universidade pública do estado do Pará. Foi aplicado na comunidade acadêmica um questionário de pesquisa, próprio, validado pelo comitê de ética da Universidade Federal do Pará, por um período de 3 meses (novembro de 2020 a janeiro de 2021). Para a análise foi pelo programa Excel, estatísticas Kappa e o teste Qui-quadrado exibidos por frequência e porcentagem. Resultado: participaram da pesquisa 188 alunos de odontologia. Os resultados obtidos na pesquisa foram de acordo com a hipótese gerada pelos pesquisadores, cerca de 19,2% e 3,7%, apresentaram crises emocionais elevando-as no período de confinamento. Quanto as expectativas para o atendimento, houve aumento de estado opressivo de crises psíquicas (ansiedade, estresse, raiva, medo), consideradas influentes na cognição dos traços comportamentais durante o atendimento pós pandemia. Conclusão: o estudo identificou que as alterações emocionais adquiridas no surto pandêmico desencadearam impacto negativo no rendimento estudantil, todavia, a sintomatologia depressiva esteve expressa em acadêmicos concluintes.

Cirurgia bariátrica é um tratamento eficaz para obesidade mórbida. Alguns fatores psicológicos podem impactar no resultado pós-operatório relacionado à perda de peso. Investigar a influência das expectativas e as motivações pré-operatórias, assim como a presença de outros transtornos psicológicos que têm potencial de estarem ligados ao desfecho desfavorável foi o objetivo desta pesquisa. Este estudo caso-controle retrospectivo considerou 44 casos de fracasso para 88 controles de sucesso em uma amostra randomizada de pacientes operados em um serviço de referência de um hospital escola. Os resultados revelaram que expectativas relacionadas à diminuição do preconceito social e à melhoria da capacidade e condições de trabalho estão associadas à resposta insatisfatória na perda do excesso de peso esperada neste procedimento cirúrgico. Falhas em tratamentos prévios para controle da obesidade foram apontadas como indicador favorável relacionado ao sucesso na perda de peso pós-cirurgia. E não houve associação de outros transtornos psicológicos com o resultado de fracasso


Bariatric surgery is an alternative for morbid obesity treatment. Some factors can impact the postoperative results related to weight loss. The objective of this research was to unveil the influence of preoperative expectations that have the potential to be linked to the unfavorable outcome. This retrospective, case-control study considered 44 cases of failure for 88 success controls in a randomized sample of patients operated on in a Brazilian School Hospital. The results revealed that expectations related to the reduction of social prejudice and the improvement of work capacity and conditions are associated with an unsatisfactory response to the expected excess weight loss in this surgical procedure. Failures in previous treatments for obesity control were identifi ed as a favorable indicator related to success in weight loss after surgery. And there was no association of other psychological disorders with the result of failure


Cirugía bariátrica es una alternativa para el tratamiento de la obesidad mórbida. Algunos factores pueden afectar el resultado postoperatorio relacionado con la pérdida de peso. El objetivo de esta investigación fue revelar la influencia de las expectativas preoperatorias que tienen el potencial de estar vinculadas al resultado desfavorable. Este estudio retrospectivo de casos y controles consideró 44 casos de fracaso para 88 controles de éxito en una muestra aleatoria de pacientes operados en un hospital escolar brasileño. Los resultados revelaron que las expectativas relacionadas con la reducción de los prejuicios sociales y la mejora de la capacidad y las condiciones laborales se asocian con una respuesta insatisfactoria al exceso de pérdida de peso esperado en este procedimiento quirúrgico. Los fracasos en tratamientos previos para el control de la obesidad se identificaron como un indicador favorable relacionado con el éxito en la pérdida de peso después de la cirugía. Y no hubo asociación de otros trastornos psicológicos con el resultado del fracaso

RESUMO Objetivo: descrever a implantação do Sistema de Classificação de Pacientes e o dimensionamento do pessoal de enfermagem em unidade de internação pediátrica. Método: estudo descritivo, transversal e retrospectivo, realizado em um hospital universitário do Centro-Oeste do Brasil. Depois da implantação do Sistema de Classificação de Pacientes pediátricos, compilaram-se dados das classificações do nível de complexidade assistencial (N=4.639) entre pacientes (n=608) internados de janeiro a dezembro de 2019. Empregou-se análise estatística descritiva, incluindo metodologia própria para dimensionamento de pessoal. Resultados: houve prevalência de pacientes de cuidados intermediários. Pelo dimensionamento do pessoal, constatou-se superávit (+10) de trabalhadores de nível médio, e o quantitativo de enfermeiros projetado (seis) era compatível com o disponível. Conclusão: a implantação/emprego estratégico do Sistema de Classificação de Pacientes foi indispensável para a previsão de pessoal de enfermagem pediátrica, considerando que o superávit de pessoal constatado deve ser apreciado com cautela.


ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the implementation of the Patient Classification System and the dimensioning of the nursing staff in a pediatric inpatient unit. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study, carried out at a university hospital in the Midwest of Brazil. After the implementation of the Pediatric Patient Classification System, we compiled data from the classifications of the level of care complexity (N=4,639) among patients (n=608) admitted from January to December 2019. Descriptive statistical analysis was employed, including proprietary methodology for staff sizing. Results: there was a prevalence of intermediate care patients. According to the staff dimensioning, there was a surplus (+10) of mid-level workers, and the projected number of nurses (six) was compatible with the available number. Conclusion: the strategic implementation/employment of the Patient Classification System was indispensable for the pediatric nursing staffing forecast, considering that the staffing surplus found should be appreciated with caution.

En cuanto a la dimensión del personal, se constató un superávit (+10) de trabajadores de nivel medio, y el número de enfermeros proyectado (seis) era compatible con el disponible. Conclusión: la implementación/empleo estratégico del Sistema de Clasificación de Pacientes fue indispensable para la previsión del personal de enfermería pediátrica, considerando que el excedente de personal encontrado debe ser apreciado con cautela.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe any dependence of anticipatory postural adjustment (APA) on the difficulty of fine upper limb tasks and to document any effect of reticulospinal tract (RST) facilitation on APAs during such tasks.Methods:The study′s bivariate mixed design involved 4 different tasks and 3 different priming states. Thirteen healthy, male, right-handed subjects were recruited. They were asked to complete the 4 tasks of reaching, grasping a cup, pinching a card using the thumb or using the little finger, respectively for 10 times 1 in response to two different starting cues delivered through an earphone. Half of the trials with each task were initiated with 114dB white noise to startle and activate the reticulospinal tract (RST), while the others were activated with 80dB beeps as a control. Electromyographic signals were recorded from the bilateral sternocleidomastoid (SCM), lower trapezius (LT), latissimus dorsi (LD), lumbar erector spinae and right anterior deltoid muscles and also from the right flexor and extensor carpi radialis muscles (ECR/FCR). In the subsequent processing the electromyographic time domain and frequency domain indicators were converted into a pre-motor reaction time, a time to muscle peak contraction, an activation latency, and APA or compensatory postural adjustment (CPA) amplitude of the tested muscles. These were compared among the different tasks and stimuli. In addition, the 114dB test tasks were classified as two different priming status as SCM + and SCM - according to whether the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) was activated in advance. Results:After RST activation the pre-motor reaction time and the time to peak contraction of all of the muscles were significantly shortened in all of the tasks. The deltoid muscle reaction times in the SCM + , SCM - and control states were (106.89±43.78)ms, (136.78±48.74)ms and (168.60±73.17)ms, respectively, and those differences are significant. The APA amplitudes of the contralateral LT and ipsilateral LD were significantly greater than normal, but the timing of muscle activation onset and the APA/CPA amplitudes of the ECR/FCR were not affected. The latency in the anticipatory muscle activation of the ECR in the little finger grip task was significantly shorter than that in reaching. Conclusions:The extensor carpi radialis show task-specific early activation in fine tasks of the upper limbs with different difficulties. RST activation can lead to early starting of expected actions, accelerate muscle contraction and increase APA amplitude of some trunk muscles, but it has no significant effect on APA/CPA amplitudes in the forearm muscles.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate and analyze the health status of elderly people from the physical, psychological and social aspects using the Health Criteria for Older Adults in China(2022), and to understand the impact of social demographic characteristics on the overall health status of the elderly.Methods:159 elderly people aged 60 years and over in the Lanyuan community of Malianwa Subdistrict, Haidian District, Beijing were selected by the stratified sampling method, with a mean age of(70.7±7.9)years, including 74 men and 85 women.The physical, psychological, social and overall health status of the elderly were comprehensively evaluated and analyzed from data collected through a self-designed questionnaire with face-to-face interviews at respondents' homes.Results:The percentage of participants in this community who were considered overall healthy was 30.2%(n=48). The proportions of those meeting the criteria for physical, mental and social health were 79.2%(n=126), 90.6%(n=144)and 32.1%(n=51), respectively.For participants of 3 age groups(60-69, n=89; 70-79, n=44; ≥80, n=26), differences in percentages of people who were considered not healthy, largely healthy and healthy, measured using the overall, physical, mental and social health criteria, were statistically significant( χ2=24.683, 57.096, 12.801, 11.802, all P<0.05), and results of the χ2test for trend showed that the frequency distribution of people with overall, physical, mental and social health decreased with age( χ2=16.878, 31.600, 9.626, 9.626, all P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that education level( OR=2.142, 95% CI: 1.053-4.538, P=0.035)was an influencing factor for overall health status of the elderly. Conclusions:The overall health status of community-dwelling elderly people in Beijing is relatively poor and deteriorates with age.Education level is a factor affecting their health status.Health assessment for the elderly should be strongly advocated, and targeted health education should be provided for the elderly in disease prevention and mental health care.

Objective@#To explore the relationships among social adaptation, physical exercise, and mental health of adolescents, so as to provide theoretical basis for social adaptation and mental health improvement.@*Methods@#Longitudinal follow up survey data were collected from 1 163 adolescents in Jinan City, Shandong Province in September 2021 (T1), January 2022 (T2), and June 2022 (T3) by cluster random sampling method. The relationship between social adaptability, physical exercise, and mental health of adolescents was analyzed through cross lagged analysis.@*Results@#There were significant sex differences in physical exercise and mental health among adolescents on T1, T2, and T3 ( Z =-3.83, -3.43, -4.59; -12.45, -8.93, -8.72, P <0.01), with male students had more physical exercise [35(28,42),36(33,42),38(35,43)] and better mental health [12(12,17),17(17,21),14(14,26)] levels than female students [33(27,40),35(31,40),36(33,41); 9(9,12),12(12,23),12(12,23)]. No similar sex difference in social adaptability (T1, T2, T3) [male: 22 (14, 24), 22 (14, 24), 22 (16, 24); female: 21 (11, 23), 20 (14, 24), 22 (17, 24)] ( Z =-0.79, -1.19, -1.34, P >0.05). Temporal and synchronous correlations were found in social adaptability, physical exercise and mental health ( r =0.18-0.67,0.12-0.68, P <0.01). Teenager physical exercise and mental health could predict social adaptability across time ( β T1-T2 =0.25,0.13; β T2-T3 =0.25,0.06, P <0.05), with a mediating effect on the impact path of physical exercise on social adaptability in psychological health ( β =0.14, P <0.05).@*Conclusions@#There is a causal relationship between physical exercise, mental health, and social adaptability among adolescents. Encouraging adolescents to actively participate in physical exercise and promoting mental health can effectively enhance their social adaptability.
