ABSTRACT
Abstract: Mexico ranks first in childhood obesity in the world, so it is important to identify variables associated with food consumption. The objective of this work was to establish whether the way in which food consumption is modified depending on social food norms and food advertising received by school children. A predictive multivariate study was designed using interval type two fuzzy logic systems (IT2 FLS), and comparing its fit with conventional models, such as multiple linear regression (RLM). We worked with the responses issued by 196 children in a previous study and stored in a database, selecting only those that corresponded to the variables of interest for the study. The social norms to avoid, the number of meals and the purchase of food through food advertising made it possible to predict children's food consumption through IT2 FLS. In RLM, mealtimes had a greater predictive capacity than the number of meals. The IT2 FLS provided a higher coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.649) than that of the RLM (R2 = 0.370). Food consumption, being a multicausal and complex phenomenon, can be better predicted by using analysis methods that manage uncertainty more flexibly, as the IT2 FLS does.
ABSTRACT
Advertisements for alcoholic beverages, in addition to being more frequent than other goods, also present content that can play a role in facilitating the use of this psychoactive substance, since, in most of them, they bring ideas and sensations of pleasure. Therefore, this research consisted of the identification and qualitative analysis of beer advertisements that had any complaints made to or by the National Advertising Self-Regulation Council (Conar), in the last five years (2015 to 2020), based on the survey of these complaints on the website of Conar and, subsequently, an analysis of the reasons consistent with the code was carried out. As a result, there was a progression in the alignments between complaints and decisions, with greater difficulty being found in aligning the infraction in relation to the content of the advertising pieces than in technical issues.

ABSTRACT
As human longevity increases, a greater concern with eating habits is visible. Furthermore, the number of people who trivialize prescribed diets increases. This context favors the medicalization of food, in which the boundary between food and medicine is blurred. Industries take advantage of this situation to promote several products. This article discusses how the contemporary advertising ecosystem and the cyber advertising techniques are used to naturalize the presence of supplements and medications in the daily diet. We used as a case study a Vietnamese campaign, in which a tablet was positioned as a culinary ingredient. Based on other cases described in the literature, the results found in the Western context are discussed. In the last section, some regulatory challenges are presented, prospects for future research are pointed out, and education is defended as fundamental for the development of citizens who value Public Health as a collective good and a right of all

A lot of research is available on the effectiveness of search as an advertising channel. Most of these studies tend to treat a click on a search ad as a binary event. All of them study the events leading to the click. This paper goes beyond this to study the post click actions taken by a user subsequent to clicking on a search ad, and refers to those actions as depth of interaction, and testing the variables that have an effect on the nal outcome. We use a prescriptive research design employing binary logistic regression analysis. Results indicate that the duration of time spent, device used, and recency of visit have a very high positive effect on the nal outcome.
ABSTRACT
Abstract The present study evaluated the promotion of natural/minimally processed foods (N/MPF) subgroups advertised in supermarket circulars by considering supermarket features and circular typology. We analyzed circulars published by five supermarket chains in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro (June/2019-May/2020) and present data on the socioeconomic coverage and profile of the supermarkets and the types of circulars. Of the 68,110 types of foods, 30.6% were N/MPF. Meat/eggs were the most promoted ones (42.3%), followed by fruits/vegetables (20.2%), which were more often advertised by produce shop circulars. Dairy products, cereals/flours/pasta and beverages/infusions made up around 10.0% of the ads. Legumes (3.8%), spices and mushrooms (0.2%) and oilseeds (0.1%) were rarely promoted. Statistically significant differences were found in the promotion of subgroups according to supermarket coverage and their socioeconomic profiles. Fruits/vegetables were more often advertised by national chains and aimed at a high-income public than by local companies and aimed at a low/middle-income public. Promotion of N/MPF subgroups was disproportional due to differences among chains and types of circulars. As a result, a discussion on the regulation of food promotion in food retail is required.
ABSTRACT
Objective @#To investigate the prevalence of electronic cigarette use among adult residents at ages of 15 years and older in Tongzhou District, Beijing Municipality, so as to provide insights into formulation of tobacco control interventions. @*Methods@#Permanent residents at ages of 15 years and older were sampled using a stratified multi-stage cluster random sampling method in Tongzhou District from September to October, 2021, and subjects' demographics, electronic cigarette use, and exposure to electronic cigarette advertising were investigated using the 2021 Questionnaire for Adult Tobacco Survey in Beijing. The awareness of electronic cigarette knowledge, prevalence of electronic cigarette use, route of acquiring electronic cigarette knowledge and route of exposure to electronic cigarette advertising were analyzed among residents in Tongzhou District, and factors affecting electronic cigarette uses were identified using a multivariable logistic regression model.@*Results@#A total of 1 196 questionnaires were allocated, and 1 166 valid questionnaires were recovered, with an effective recovery rate of 97.49%. The respondents included 532 men (45.63%) and 634 women (54.37%), with a mean age of (57.05±15.04) years. The awareness of electronic cigarette knowledge was 67.58%, and the prevalence of electronic cigarette uses and current electronic cigarette uses was 3.94% and 0.34%, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed a higher possibility of electronic cigarette uses among men (OR=28.492, 95%CI: 6.873-118.106), residents at ages of 15 to 44 years (OR=3.219, 95%CI: 1.584-6.539), enterprise workers/businessmen/service industry workers (OR=3.599, 95%CI: 1.527-8.482), and public institution workers/public servants/students (OR=4.403, 95%CI: 1.758-11.026). The main route of acquiring electronic cigarettes was presented by others (43.48%), and the main cause of electronic cigarette use was quitting smoking (30.43%), followed by thinking little harmlessness of electronic cigarette use (26.09%), while the main route of exposure to electronic cigarette advertising was television (59.09%), followed by internet (45.45%). @*Conclusions@#There is a low prevalence rate of electronic cigarette uses among residents at ages of 15 years and older in Tongzhou District, and men and residents at ages of 15 to 44 years are main electronic cigarette users. Health education pertaining to the harmlessness of electronic cigarette uses and supervision of electronic cigarette advertising are required to be reinforced.
ABSTRACT
Background: The Nigerian government implemented the National Tobacco Control Act (NTCA) in 2015, which prohibits tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship (TAPS) exposure to children under 18 years of age. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of attitudes and exposure to TAPS among in school adolescents in Lagos State, Nigeria, 5 years after the implementation of the Act and to identify the factors associated with TAPS exposure among the adolescents. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 968 in school adolescents selected through multistage random sampling. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires adapted from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey. Results: Overall, 77% had been exposed to at least one form of TAPS in the past 30 days. The most frequently reported channel of exposure was through product placements, with 62% reporting exposure in films, TV, and videos. Up to 15.2% and 12.6% were exposed to TAPS through promotional activities and sponsorships, respectively. The majority (82.3%) had pro tobacco attitudes, while about a third (33.1%) had pro TAPS attitudes. Factors associated with TAPS exposure were having pro TAPS attitudes (odds ratio [OR]: 3.5, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.35.3), being female (OR: 2, 95% CI: 1.42.7), and residing in a rural area (OR: 1.6, 95% CI: 1.22.3). Conclusion: Five years after implementing the NTCA, more than two thirds of the adolescents reported exposure to TAPS, mainly through films, TV, and videos. This suggests that the NTCA is poorly enforced. Efforts to ensure the effective implementation of comprehensive TAPS bans are warranted. Gender sensitive strategies that target adolescents' attitudes and school level factors should be emphasized.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze if milk and complementary foods are being sold under the Brazilian Code of Marketing of Infant and Toddler's Food, Teats, Pacifiers and Baby Bottles (NBCAL), Law 11265/2006 of breastfeeding protection. Methods: Epidemiological survey that analyzed the marketing practices of pharmacies, supermarkets, and department stores in the Southern region of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by direct observation. Results: Among the 349 stores in Rio de Janeiro's South Region, 339 traded milk and complementary foods and, among them, 60.8% were not complying with NBCAL. Infractions to NBCAL were more common for the selling of milk (58.6%) than complementary foods (22.8%). The most recurrent promotion strategy infringing NBCAL was discount pricing without the Ministry of Health disclaimer. Conclusions: Most retail stores infringe NBCAL in the commercialization of milk and complementary foods in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a violation of the right to information that may impact mothers' choice regarding their child's feeding.
ABSTRACT
Abstract The COVID-19 exacerbated violence against women. This study evaluated the possible efficacy of using advertising pieces containing the hypocrisy paradigm, the contrast principle, and moral disengagement mechanisms to prevent and reduce violence against women. We conducted two studies which included exclusively men as participants. Study 1 (n=400; M age =21.69; Me=20.00; SD=5.79) used traditional pieces on violence against women, manipulating only their moral disengagement phrases. Results suggest that the phrase combined with traditional images is either ineffective or has a rebound effect. Study 2 (n=303; M age =21.38; Me=20.00; SD=4.94) manipulated the image in Study 1, showing more effective results regarding hostility. However, physical aggression showed no significant differences. Finally, some pieces generated a rebound effect, increasing participants' self-perception of aggression. The use of advertising can act as an ally or an enemy of public policies if their effectiveness lacks proper testing.
O Estudo 1 (n=400; M idade =21,69; Me=20,00; DP=5,79) utilizou peças tradicionais, manipulando apenas as frases de desengajamento moral.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: Analyze marketing communication strategies (MCS) of labels of food products consumed by children under 5 years of age from the Brazilian National Health System (SUS) in the city of Rio de Janeiro. METHODS: In total, 390 labels of ultra-processed foods and industrialized baby foods were analyzed. The products were organized by similarity into 24 groups. Photographs of labels from each group were analyzed to identify the MCS, which were categorized into "presence of characters and/or celebrities," "emotional appeal," "freebies offering," "health appeal," "sensory stimulation," "brand or slogan use," "promotional price," "advertisement under advertisement," and "sustainability appeal." The percentage frequency of labels according to the number of MCS per label; the total and average frequency of MCS according to the food group; the frequency of MCS type according to the food group; and communication resources by type of MCS were computed. RESULTS: 1 to 19 strategies were found per label and an average of 7.2 MCS per label, totaling 2,792 occurrences. The MCS "sensory stimulation," "health appeal," "brand or slogan use," and "advertisement under advertising" were observed in all food groups. "Freebies offering" and "promotional price" were observed in eight and six food groups, respectively. In food groups of bread; dairy products; and sweets, candies, and goodies, all nine types of MCS included in the study were identified. The groups that presented fewer types of MCS (n=5) were: peanuts, instant noodles, and margarines. Of the total MCS identified on the labels, the most frequent were "sensory stimulation" (29.4%) and "health appeal" (18.2%); and the least frequent were "freebies offering" (0.8%) and "promotional price" (0.4%). The "emotional appeal" strategy presented the highest diversity of communication resources. CONCLUSION: Rigorous regulatory measures are required to protect consumers from massive exposure to MCS on food labels.

ABSTRACT This article aimed to investigate, in the light of Adorno's theory, how sport is used in Bolsonarist propaganda. The work has a theoretical-empirical character, whose aspects of Adorno's thought become an instrument for analyzing the sporting phenomenon. Methodologically, publications from Jair Bolsonaro's official Instagram profile that made any mention of sport were analyzed. It was found that there is a link between high-performance sport and the fascist propaganda spread by Bolsonaro's profile. It was concluded that fascist propaganda incorporates psychological and anti-intellectual strategies aimed at reaching the masses in the propagation of facts disconnected from their context and pseudo-truths, with the purpose of penetrating fascist ideas.

ABSTRACT
Abstract This study analyzes the ability of public health policies to dispute meaning in the construction, of the world caused by the media and the need for state regulation of food marketing for children. These advertisings influence children's food choices, forming a palate used to consuming ultra-processed products (harmful to health) since childhood. With a qualitative approach, the research interviewed, over the span of a decade, the public administrators at a federal level to understand the execution of the agenda for strengthening the regulation of advertising of food aimed at children. This agenda aims to strengthen health promotion actions and contribute to the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases. The influence of the food industry, with the communication industry, has restricted the development of public policies in Brazil, and the topic needs social participation since the existing law is not applied.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To analyze food advertising on YouTube channels aimed at children in Brazil and the interaction of the public with this type of advertising. METHODS We analyzed the 10 most popular videos from the 25 YouTube most-watched channels with content aimed at children in the country in 2018. The presence of general advertising, food brands and food services was identified. When there was advertising in the videos, the foods and their respective brands were described, the first being classified according to the NOVA system. In cases of advertising of a specific food brand without its product having been displayed or mentioned, the classification was carried out according to the predominance of that company products. The number of visualizations and interactions ("likes" and "dislikes") was also collected. RESULTS General advertising was identified in 45.6% of videos, while food and food service advertising was present in 12.9% and 1.6% of videos, respectively. Food advertisements were mostly represented by ultra-processed products (n = 30; 93.8%). In channels led by Kid YouTubers, there was a higher frequency of general advertising, food and food services in the videos. In these channels, the advertisements of food in general and ultra-processed foods were respectively 2.79 and 2.53 times higher than in videos of channels not led by Kid YouTubers. The number of times videos were tagged "liked" was higher in videos with food advertising (1.67 × 105) compared to videos without food advertising (1.02 × 105), p = 0.0272. CONCLUSION YouTube is a potential medium for children's exposure and interaction with ultra-processed food advertising. The results of this analysis reinforce the importance of enforcing regulations prohibiting children's advertising on this platform.

ABSTRACT
The pharmaceutical industry has found new techniques to promote over-the-counter drugs to the public. In this context, testimonial advertising makes it possible to increase the credibility of the message, its framework being dependent on the category of the sender, in the Portuguese and Brazilian legal systems. Adopting a comparative law perspective, the present work aimed at analysing testimonial advertising, with a special focus on testimonies given by digital influencers who recommend the consumption of drugs. It is a qualitative study, based on a bibliographic and legislative survey, as well as on a detailed analysis of decisions by competent self-regulatory bodies, both in Portugal and Brazil. It is concluded that some digital influencers can be considered famous people and not just consumers, which determines the unlawfulness of widespread advertising, considering the need to safeguard objectivity and the rational use of drugs. However, a traditional approach to these new techniques of drugs promotion, still focused on mandatory mentions and the general principles of advertising, resulted from the decisions analyzed.

Abstract Advertising is a part of marketing that has proved over decades, and perhaps centuries, to be effective for business productivity. The COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico, which paused large numbers of economic activities from April 2020 to at least May 2021, has left diverse commercial and business disruptions. These can be seen in the bankruptcy of some businesses and in the birth or development of others. The resilience of enterprises, understood as the capacity to overcome the adversities of the environment has been an important topic during the pandemic. The aim of this work was to determine the extent to which both, conventional and digital advertising impact on the resilience of enterprises. An empirical quantitative investigation was carried out in May 2021, in which a 30-item online questionnaire was administered to a sample of 302 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises located in the southern region of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Results showed that the surveyed companies claimed that they use conventional and virtual advertising in almost the same proportion. In addition, a significant positive correlation was found between the use of the two types of advertising and the resilience of enterprises. Therefore, it is advisable for entrepreneurs to define strategies that lead to the use of all advertising mediums in order to increase the possibility of achieving entrepreneurial sustainability, especially in adverse circumstances.
