ABSTRACT

Introduction: The direct effects of Covid-19 went beyond the spectrum of clinical manifestations of the disease, changes in the affective states of the person were also evidenced. Objective: To determine the relationship between emotional affective states and professional burnout when attending patients affected by Covid-19, in Hospital Materno Infantil, during 2020. Methods: It was a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional, prospective, and analytical study. It worked with a census population of 180 healthcare workers, who were applied an inventory of professional burnout and a scale of anxiety, stress, and depression (DASS-21), which were previously validated. The X2 test was used for hypothesis testing, with a p < 0.05. Results: We found a relationship between the level of anxiety and the level of professional burnout of health personnel (X2 = 18.533; p = 0.000). There was a relationship between the level of stress and the level of professional burnout between these variables (X2 = 12.808; p = 0.000). Finally, we found a relationship between the level of depression and professional burnout (X2 = 13.618; p = 0.000). Conclusions: It was evident that 5.6% (10) presented altered affective states and professional burnout.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective The objective of this study was to translate and adapt the National Institute of Mental Health Life Chart Method - Self/Prospective (NIMH-LCM-S/P™) instrument for self-monitoring of mood into Brazilian Portuguese and provide evidence of content validity. Additionally, a user guide was prepared for the instrument and evaluated by mental health professionals. Methods The study was divided into two stages - Stage 1: Translation and cross-cultural adaptation and Stage 2: Determination of content validity index (CVI) scores. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation process involved 37 participants between translators, experts, target population, and evaluators. Results The CVI was evaluated by 15 mental health professionals. 11 (78.57%) of the items evaluated attained the maximum CVI score of 1.00, which constitutes the highest level of content validity, and no changes were suggested by participants. Only one of the items evaluated had a CVI score lower than 0.80. Conclusion The final translated and adapted version of the NIMH-LCM-S/P™ and its user guide were evaluated by the target population and the mental health professionals. Both groups displayed satisfactory comprehension levels, suggesting there is potential for using this instrument in clinical practice to assess therapeutic interventions in Brazilian settings.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the relationship between HIV/AIDS and mental illness has been reported, but no studies have been conducted in Cuba about psychic alterations in patients at clinical onset of AIDS. Methods: study population: patients of both sexes with a diagnosis of AIDS onset within a year after diagnosis. The record system SIDATRAT was used to list and locate the cases. The purpose was to learn about the behavior of psychic variables in patients at clinical onset of AIDS and their association with immunocompetence. Results: estimation was made of affective states, psychic self-regulation, behavioral response to the disease, CD4+ lymphocytes and viral load in 42 patients at clinical onset of AIDS with and without psychopathological symptoms. Descriptive statistics analysis, ANOVA mean comparison, was performed to relate variables and robust confirmatory tests. Negative affective states were not good indicators of psychic alteration, with homogeneous means between the groups. Reflexive decision making responsibility predominated among symptomatic patients, with upper means for discontrol and lower means for self-control, indicative of worst coping. High self-control scores were associated with a low viral load, but not with TL CD4+ counts. No psychic variable was related to immunocompetence

ABSTRACT

Happy emotional states have not been extensively explored in functional magnetic resonance imaging studies using autobiographic recall paradigms. We investigated the brain circuitry engaged during induction of happiness by standardized script-driven autobiographical recall in 11 healthy subjects (6 males), aged 32.4 ± 7.2 years, without physical or psychiatric disorders, selected according to their ability to vividly recall personal experiences. Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) changes were recorded during auditory presentation of personal scripts of happiness, neutral content and negative emotional content (irritability). The same uniform structure was used for the cueing narratives of both emotionally salient and neutral conditions, in order to decrease the variability of findings. In the happiness relative to the neutral condition, there was an increased BOLD signal in the left dorsal prefrontal cortex and anterior insula, thalamus bilaterally, left hypothalamus, left anterior cingulate gyrus, and midportions of the left middle temporal gyrus (P < 0.05, corrected for multiple comparisons). Relative to the irritability condition, the happiness condition showed increased activity in the left insula, thalamus and hypothalamus, and in anterior and midportions of the inferior and middle temporal gyri bilaterally (P < 0.05, corrected), varying in size between 13 and 64 voxels. Findings of happiness-related increased activity in prefrontal and subcortical regions extend the results of previous functional imaging studies of autobiographical recall. The BOLD signal changes identified reflect general aspects of emotional processing, emotional control, and the processing of sensory and bodily signals associated with internally generated feelings of happiness. These results reinforce the notion that happiness induction engages a wide network of brain regions.
