ABSTRACT

Introducción: Las enfermedades transmitidas por alimentos se producen por ingestión de un alimento, incluido el agua, que puede estar contaminado por diversos agentes. Objetivo: Caracterizar los agentes bacterianos aislados en brotes de enfermedades transmitidas por alimentos. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal de 100,0 % de los brotes de enfermedades transmitidas por alimentos en la provincia de Santiago de Cuba, desde enero de 2018 hasta diciembre de 2019, para lo cual se seleccionaron muestras de alimentos y heces fecales. La caracterización de las bacterias aisladas se basó en los resultados del crecimiento y otras pruebas bioquímicas-metabólicas. Se utilizaron resultados del aislamiento y confirmación de los agentes identificados en cada uno de los brotes a partir de las muestras antes citadas. Entre las variables analizadas figuraron: número de brotes, muestras de alimentos, de heces fecales y resultados de pruebas bioquímicas y metabólicas. Resultados: Se obtuvo un aislamiento de agentes bacterianos en 100,0 % de las muestras de alimentos. Hubo una mayor frecuencia de bacterias Gram negativas (82,0 %) y la menor correspondió a microorganismos Gram positivos (18,0 %). La Salmonella D fue el microorganismo más frecuente. Conclusiones: Este resultado representa un instrumento para el diagnóstico etiológico de los brotes de enfermedades transmitidas por alimentos en Santiago de Cuba.


Introduction: Diseases transmitted by foods are produced due to ingestion of a food, including water that can be contaminated by diverse agents. Objective: To characterize the bacterial agents isolated in diseases outbreaks transmitted by foods. Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of 100.0 % of the diseases outbreaks transmitted by foods in Santiago de Cuba, from January, 2018 to December, 2019 was carried out, for which samples of foods and stools were selected. The characterization of the isolated bacterias was based on the results of growth and other biochemical-metabolic tests. Results of the isolation and confirmation of agents identified in each one of the outbreaks from the samples mentioned above were used. Among the analyzed variables we can mention: number of outbreaks, samples of foods, samples of stools and results of biochemical and metabolic tests. Results: An isolation of bacterial agents was obtained in 100.0 % of foods samples. There was a higher frequency of Gram negative bacterias (82.0 %) and the lower corresponded to Gram positive microorganisms (18.0 %). Salmonella D was the most frequent microorganism. Conclusions: This result represents an instrument for the etiological diagnosis of diseases outbreaks transmitted by foods in Santiago de Cuba.

Resumen Introducción: La Meningitis Bacteriana Aguda (MBA) corresponde a la inflamación de las leptomeninges por presencia de bacterias piógenas. La epidemiología es variable y depende multifactorial. A pesar de los avances en medicina la mortalidad de la MBA se ha mantenido estable, evidenciando la necesidad de estudiar esta patología para orientar estrategias de prevención y tratamiento. Objetivos: Determinar la prevalencia de los agentes etiológicos de MBA confirmadas en adultos en el Hospital San Martín de Quillota (HSMQ) entre los años 2012 y 2018. Establecer la tasa de resistencia a antibióticos. Determinar el perfil de los pacientes, y establecer la relación entre perfil, agente etiológico identificado y desenlace. Métodos: c muestra de 38 casos, se estableció la prevalencia de los patógenos involucrados y se realizó un análisis estadístico considerando los factores de riesgo, sus días de estadía y su condición al egreso hospitalario. Resultados: 15 casos en que no se aisló patógeno en LCR (líquido cefalorraquídeo), 13 MBA por neumococo, 4 por Haemophilus spp, 3 por meningococo, 2 por Staphylococcus spp y 1 por Mycobacterium tuberculosis. En el grupo sin agente aislado se observó un mejor pronóstico, valores de PCR (proteína C reactiva) en sangre menores y valores de glucorraquia mayores. Se registraron 6 fallecimientos por MBA. Conclusión: La prevalencia de los agentes etiológicos fue similar a la descrita en la literatura, con neumococo como el microorganismo más frecuente, no se reportaron casos de Listeria monocytogenes. Probablemente en el grupo sin agente aislado se incluyeron casos de meningitis virales.


Introduction: Acute bacterial meningitis (ABM) is denifed as the inflammation of leptomeninges due to the presence of pyogenic bacteriae. Epidemiology is variable and multifactorial. In spite of advance in medicine, ABM's mortality has remained stable, hence the need to study the causative microorganisms in order to guide prevention and treatment strategies. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of the etiological agents of ABM confirmed in adults in a medium complexity hospital located in Quillota, Chile, between 2012 and 2018, to establish the rate of resistance of these to antibiotics. Determine the profile of the patients and establish the relationship between profile, etiological agent identified and outcome. Methods: A sample of 38 cases with ABM was evaluated during, the prevalence of the pathogens involved was established and a statistical analysis was carried out considering the risk factors of patients, their days of in-hospital stay and their condition at hospital discharge. Results: We analyzed 38 cases, 15 without isolated pathogens, 13 of Streptococcus pneumoniae, 4 of Haemophilus spp., 3 of Neisseria meningitidis, 2 of Staphylococcus spp. and we obtained one case of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the group without isolated pathogens, a better prognosis was observed, lower blood CRP values and higher glucose on spinal fluid values. 6 deaths per ABM were recorded. Conclusion: The prevalence of etiological agents was similar to that described in the literature, with pneumococcus as the most frequent microorganism, no cases of Listeria monocytogenes were reported. Probably in the group in which no agent was isolated, cases of viral meningitis were included.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Determinar agentes bacterianos presentes en amígdalas resecadas e identifi car la resistencia y sensibilidad a antibióticos. Diseño: Estudio de corte transversal. Métodos: Se incluyeron los pacientes llevados a amigdalectomía que cumplieran con una o más de las indicaciones quirúrgicas. Resultados: total, 79 pacientes. La indicación más frecuente fue amigdalitis recurrente (51,7%). Los gérmenes aerobios con mayor frecuencia fueron Haemophilus parainfl uenzae (32,7%), Staphylococcus aureus (30%) y Haempohilus infl uenzae (15,9%). El anaerobio más aislado fue Veillonella (40%). Los antibióticos con mayor sensibilidad para Haemophylus sp (parainfl uenzae e infl uenzae) fueron las cefalosporinas (100%) y ampicilina sulbactam (89%). La mayor resistencia fue trimetoprim sulfametoxazol (75%) y ampicilina (48.8%). Para el Staphylococcus aureus se encontró mayor sensibilidad a quinolonas (100%), clindamicina (92,3%), ampicilina sulbactam (88,8%), cefazolina (88,8%), oxacilina (88,4%) y resistencia a ampicilina (100%) y penicilina (84,6%). Conclusiones:, se considera tener presentes dichos antibióticos en cada una de estas indicaciones en el manejo de los pacientes. Conclusión: El estudio del tejido amigdalino después de la amigdalectomía nos da información confi able en comparación con otros métodos de identifi cación bacteriana.


Objectives: To determine bacterial agents present in resected tonsils and identify resistance and sensitivity to antibiotics. Methods: Cross sectional study. We included patients undergoing tonsillectomy that met one or more of the surgical indications. Results: Total 79 patients. The most common indication was recurrent tonsillitis (51.7%). The most common aerobic bacteria was Haemophilus parainfluenzae (32.7%), Staphylococcus aureus (30%) and Haemophilus influenzae (15.9%). The more isolate anaerobic was Veillonella (40%). Antibiotics with greater sensitivity for Haemophilus sp (parainfluenzae and influenzae) were cephalosporins (100%) and ampicillin sulbactam (89%). The greatest resistance was trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole (75%) and ampicillin (48.8%). For Staphylococcus aureus was found more sensitive to quinolones (100%), clindamycin (92.3%), ampicillin sulbactam (88.8%), cefazolin (88.8%), oxacillin (88.4) and ampicillin resistance (100%) and penicillin (84.6 %) Conclusion: We considered to have these antibiotics in each of these indications in the management of patients.

ABSTRACT

Foram examinados 176 eqüídeos (15 muares e 161 eqüinos) do município de Monte Negro, Rondônia, Amazônia Ocidental Brasileira, frente a agentes virais e bacterianos. A amostra correspondeu ao total de eqüídeos no município, considerando um nível de confiança de 99%, prevalência esperada de 50% e erro padrão de 10%. As infecções virais foram investigadas pelas provas de Imunodifusão em gel de Agar (Anemia Infecciosa Eqüina - AIE), Inibição da hemaglutinação (Influenza eqüina tipos 1 e 2 - IE-1 e 2) e Soroneutralização em cultura celular (Arterite Viral Eqüina - AVE, Herpesvírus Eqüino tipo 1 - HVE1, Estomatite Vesicular - EV e Encefalomielite Eqüina do Leste - EEE, do Oeste - WEE e Venezuela - VEE). Para o diagnóstico da leptospirose, foi utilizada a prova de Soroaglutinação Microscópica (SAM); para o diagnóstico da brucelose, o teste do Antígeno Acidificado Tamponado (AAT) foi utilizado como teste de triagem e as provas de Soroaglutinação Lenta em Tubos (SLT) e 2- mercaptoetanol como testes diagnósticos. Foram constatados 9,6% dos eqüídeos reativos para AIE, 22,7% para HVE1, 19,9% para IE- 1, 42,0% para IE-2, 21,0% para EEE, 11,3% para VEE, 3,4% para Brucella spp. e 91,4% para Leptospira spp. Os sorovares de leptospira mais freqüentes foram Bratislava (10,5%), Icterohaemorrhagiae (8,7%) e Autumnalis (8,7%) nos eqüinos e Patoc (26,6%) nos muares. Não foram encontrados animais com anticorpos contra AVE, EV e WEE.


Sera from 174 equidaes (15 mules and 161 equines) of Monte Negro municipality, Rondônia State were analyzed against viral and bacterial agents. The serum sample corresponded the total equid population in the municipality considering a confidence interval of 99%, expected prevalence of 50% and absolute desired of 10%. For the viral agents, sera were tested by the Agar Gel Immunodiffusion Test (Equine Infection Anemia - EIA), Inhibition Haemagglutination Test (Equine Influenza 1 and 2 - EI - 1 and 2), and Virusneutralizating Tests (Equine Viral Arteritis - EVA, Equine Herpesvirus 1 - EHV1, Vesicular Stomatitis - VS, Equine Encephalitis Eastern - EEE, Western - WEE and Venezuelan VEE). The diagnosis for brucellosis was made by Agglutination Tests and the Microscopic Agglutination Test was used for leptospirosis. The results showed positivity of 9.6% for EIA, 22.7% for HVE1, 19.9% for IE-1, 42.0% for IE-2, 21.0% for EEE, 11.3% for VEE, 3.4% for brucellosis, and 91.4% for leptospirosis. The most frequent serovars detected were Bratislava (10.5%), Icterohaemorrhagiae (8.7%), Autumnalis (8.7%) for equines and Patoc (26.6%) for mules. No one of the examined samples reacted to EVA, VS, or WEE.
