ABSTRACT

In the present work, we examined intraperitoneal (3 and 6 mg/kg body weight [bw]; Rot-3-ip and Rot-6-ip, respectively) andoral (50 and 100 mg/kg bw; Rot-50-po and Rot-100-po, respectively) rotenone induced PD modeled Wistar rats to evaluatechanges in various haematological parameters. While Rot-3-ip for 21 days and Rot-50-po for 28 days caused majorParkinson’s disease (PD)-related alterations, Lewy bodies were only detected in Rot-3-ip rats. The Rot-6-ip and Rot-100-potreatments caused lethal toxicity. The ip and po rotenone doses significantly (p < 0.05) and dose dependently altered severalhaematological variables (haemoglobin [Hb], red blood cells [RBCs], white blood cells [WBCs] and packed cell volume[PCV])

ABSTRACT

to evaluate quality of life and its relationship to lifestyle along with the personal and work characteristics of agro-industry workers from Goias, Brazil. A cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study, using the WHOQOL-BREF instrument as well as personal and work data, the data collection occurred in 2014. A bivariate analysis was used to check for associations between the predictor variables and the analyzed outcomes. Variables with p < 0.20 and potential confounding variables: gender, age, income and marital status were included in multiple linear regression models. The perception of the quality of life of workers showed better scores for the social domain and worse for environment, obtaining significance for the factors associated with quality of life: physical activity, education, skin color, work related accidents, income and body mass index. In order to perform the multifactorial analyses, the associated independent factors were confirmed in the regression analysis, with the inclusion of the variables gender, marital status and alcohol consumption. The workers have lifestyles that interfere with the perception of their quality of life. All of the domains evaluated in this study were shown to possess this interference, with prevalence toward a lack of physical activity and the occurrence of work related accidents.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the effect of earthworm inoculation on N mineralization rates of different quality organic matters from sugar agro-industry waste, we conducted a green house incubation experiment for 14 weeks in pots containing 7 kg dry soil. There are 12 treatment combinations.Factor I waswith (P) and without inoculation of P.corethrurus (N). Factor II was the type of OM which consisted of six levels: (1) without application of OM (control), (2) cow manure (CM), (3) filter cake (FC), (4) sugarcane trash (ST), (5) a mixture of CM + FC and (6) a mixture of CM + ST. The treatments were arranged in a factorial randomized block design with three replications. The amount of released N-NH4 +and N-NO3 - or mineral N was measured during incubation time from 1, 2, 4, 8, and 14 weeks after inoculation of earthworms. There was a significant effect of earthworm inoculation on N mineralization rate of different quality organic matters. Overall, rate of net N mineralization were higher in treatments with earthworm inoculation than without earthworm inoculation and the magnitude of the increase appears to dependent on the quality of organic matters. The largest difference were seen on ST and CM+ST treatments with the increase by 90 % and 157 % and the constant of N mineralization rate by 0.0147 and 0.0180 week-1 for the treatment with earthwormsinoculation. These results suggested that application of sugar agro-industry waste although having low quality can improve soil N availability in sugarcane land when aided by P.corethrurus activity.

ABSTRACT

This study aims at assessing the microbiologic quality of food products manufactured by agro- industries of Frederico Westphalen. When talking about quality of agribusiness products and byproducts, it is interesting to notice that the main concern is to focus the issue from a quasi purely hygienic-sanitary perspective, where microbiologic contamination would be responsible for the product quality loss and health threat. During the first step of the study, it was collected samples of milk, soft and cured cheese (Enterprise A), milk, soft, cured and cream cheese (enterprise B), soft and cured salami and sausage (enterprise C ), in natural meat, soft and cured salami (enterprise D). The samples were collected and securely wrapped to prevent contamination. Microbiologic analyses were carried out (salmonella, total and fecal feces), according to the norms of Manual de Métodos de Análises Microbiológicas de Alimentos, 1997 (Manual of Food Microbiologic Analyses Methods). The second step consisted in presenting the results to the enterprises, suggesting improvement in the processing and at the plants. As a third step, more analyses were carried out. The results obtained from the first study were negative for all the products regarding the salmonella. The analyses of total and fecal feces, concerning the meat and the cured salami, showed satisfactory results, while the other products showed feces indexes above those permitted by legislation. During the project development, it was given support to the industries regarding hygienic- sanitary conditions, product manipulation and building improvement. In the third step, the salmonella results, in all products, were negative. (...)
