ABSTRACT

Ten eels (Anguilla japonica) from a fish farm in Korea were examined and diagnosed with a Heterosporis infection. The gross lesions on the trunk were uneven and the concave parts were pasty. Histopathologically, lyses of the trunk muscles, degenerative muscle fibers and the scattered spores were observed. The sporophorocyst (SPC) contained several spores with a variety of shapes. Some SPC were disrupted and the spores in the SPC were scattered in the muscle tissues. Macrophages existed near the scattered spores. Electron microscopy revealed special structures such as sporophorocyst containing various developmental parasitic stages such as meronts, sporonts, sporophorous vesicles and spores.

ABSTRACT

The testis of Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica) consists of type A and early type B spermatogonia together with inactive Leydig and Sertoli cells. A single injection of human chorionic gonadotropin induced marked changes in the morphology of the testis and in the scrum androgen levels within a period of 72 h. Morphological changes include spermatogonial proliferation, activation of Leydig and Sertoli cells, organization of seminiferous lobules and formation of lobular lumen in the testis. Leydig cells were enlarged, exhibiting characteristics of steroid-producing cells. Sertoli cells become elongated, show signs of high cellular activity and remain in close contact with spermatogonia. The lobular organization was achieved much earlier than the progression of spermatogenesis to late type Β spermatogonia. Even 6 h after hCG injection, a significant increase in plasma levels of 11-ketotestosterone was observed, followed by a further time dependent increase. Plasma testosterone levels were also increased after injection, but the increase was much less than that of 11-ketotestosterone.

ABSTRACT

The results showed that the survival rate increased by 40. 0%-80. 0% ,the level of 6-keto PGP1? increased by 38. 3%-79. 2%,and the product of TXB2 decreased by 24. 5%-58. 8% by the purified oil of Anguilla japonica (POAJ) 139. 6,279. 2,558. 4 and 1116. 8?g ? g-1 in mice. The ratio of 6-keto-PGF1? to TXB2 were enhanced markedly,in which the ratioes were 1.12 (control group) ,2. 05,2. 65,3. 57 and 4. 89 (drug group).

ABSTRACT

The purified oil of Anguilla japonica (139. 6-1116. 8 mg/kg) was administrated ig for 20 days in mice. Positive cell number of macrophage with Fc receptor, phago-cytic percentage and index were increased significantly. T lymphocyte transformation and activity of NK cell were enhanced merkedly. The amount of antibody forming cells was risen dramatically.

ABSTRACT

Hyperlipidemia rats were fed by purified oil of Anguulla japonica (127. 7, 255. 4 and 510. 8 mg/kg) reduced significantly serum total cholesterol (TC), trigliceride (TG) and low density Hpoprotein(LDL) level. Effects of 127. 7 mg/kg were not significant. TC reduced rats of three doses were 13. 3%,37. 1% and 48. 7% respectively; TG reduced rats were 9. 5,12. 9 and 25. 2%; LDL reduced rats were 5. 1, 47. 4 and 62.2%. Also, doses of 255. 4 and 510. 8 mg/kg increased significantly high density lipoprotein(HDL) level. HDL increased rats of three doses were 8. 2,67. 3 and 61. 2%. Dose of 510. 8 mg/kg reduced significantly whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity. Dose of 255. 4 mg/kg reduced significantly whole blood viscosity, but did not reduced plasma viscosity. A dose of 127. 7 mg/kg had no effects on both whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity.
