ABSTRACT

Objective: Continuous medication management is demanded from community pharmacists, including mandatory follow-ups (FUs) during the medication period. To improve their efficiency and quality, a software application (app) is being introduced. We investigated the use of the app for FUs by comparing it to the use of phone calls.Design: This was a retrospective studythat collected FU records from participating pharmacies. Methods: FU records of an automated question-and-answer post-dispensing app and phone calls made at 10 pharmacies in June-July 2021 were collected. Differences in the work time and contents of each FU tool were evaluated. Results: Of the 138 eligible cases, 69 (50.0%) used the app and 62 (44.93%) used phones. There was 1 case of FU interruption using the app and 12 for those using phone calls. Preparation time to initiate FU was shorter using the app than phone calls (0.28 ± 0.96 min vs. 5.06 ± 5.44 min). Moreover, there were more cases of pharmaceutical problems identified using the app than phone calls (69.57% vs. 35.48%).Conclusion: The FU app maybe a more efficient tool for identifying problems than phone calls. Further studies are needed to optimize the tool according to patient characteristics.

ABSTRACT

Dysglycemia is independently associated with the mortality of critically ill patients. Therefore, the management of blood glucose plays an important role in comprehensive therapy. It is suggested that the same target value of blood glucose (7.8-10.0 mmol/L) should not be set for all critically ill patients. Instead, it should be individually set based on the causes of the patient's admission and the status of blood glucose before admission. For this reason, there is an urgent need for a convenient protocol and method to regulate the dosage of insulin. The first hospital of Jiaxing, collaborating with information engineers, developed a modified eProtocol-insulin for domestic population with mathematical modeling and developed an Application Software (APP), which is convenient for clinical use. This is the first eProtocol-insulin and smart device APP for critically ill patients in China.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of improving formative assessment inside classroom in the undergraduate education of anesthesiology by means of mobile application program (APP) based on in-ternet platform. Methods 195 students of the department of Anesthesiology first received conventional method (control group) and then received APP based on internet platform method (experimental group). In the control group, paper cards were used for in-class test and attendance rate was calculated by roll call. The experimental group used mobile APP to scan two-dimensional code for in-class test and calculated attendance rate. Afterwards, the implementation effect of formative assessment in classroom was compared between the two groups. Results The time-consuming of class-room test and score analysis in experimental group were lower than that of the control group (1.2 min/course hour vs. 18 min/course hour,6 min/course hour vs. 56 min/course hour). The attendance rate and score of test had no significant difference (98.3% vs. 100%, 17.2 vs. 17.5). The questionnaire survey showed students were satisfied with the new teaching method (98.5%) because of its convenience (100%), objectivity (97.4%), feasibility (98.5%), less workload (100%), enthusiasm stimulation (97.4%), and better teaching effect (100%) in experimental group. Conclusion The mobile application program (APP) based on internet platform is a convenient, accurate and objective method which has positive effects to improve formative assessment inside classroom in undergraduate education of anesthesiology. It is a new scientific and low-cost teaching method, which deserves further promotion.

ABSTRACT

China's pre - hospital emergency resources are shortage, city traffic is congestion, and the arrival of ambulance takes some time. For this reason, the emergency center designed and manufactured a pre - hospital e-mergency volunteer mobile application software. This paper analyzed some ethical problems encountering in the practical application of the software in the 120 emergency alarm of Hangzhou area, such as volunteer identification, patient information confidentiality, volunteer rescue whether to cause a dispute and other issues, and gave the rele-vant solution countermeasures, including setting access threshold for the emergency volunteer, adopting various technical measures to protect the information of patient and formulating and perfecting the relevant legal regulations.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of Varenicline combined with MEDCHART application software for health education and follow-up in patients at smoking cessation clinic. Methods A total of 104 cases who had smoking cessation counseling and intervention at smoking cessation clinic from February 2014 to January 2015 were divided randomly into MEDCHART APP group (n=51) and conventional group (n=53).Both groups were intervened by brief admonishment and given Varenicline. The 9-12 weeks and 26th week protracted continuous abstinence rates were observed. Results There were no significant difference in 9-12 week protracted withdrawal rate between 26th week APP and conventional groups (56.9% vs.45.3%),the 26th week abstinence rates in group MEDCHART APP (41.2%) were significantly higher than the conventional group (20.8%)(x2=5.088,P<0.05).There was significant difference in full course completion rates between the two groups;15 cases (29.4%) completed the course in group MEDCHART APP,whereas 5 cases (9.4%) did so in conventional group (x2=4.405,P<0.05).Conclusion MEDCHART APP can strengthen health education and follow-up,which helps extend the time for Varenicline, increase 26th week smoking cessation withdrawal rate.It is a useful tool for smoking cessation education and follow-up.

ABSTRACT

The accuracy of dietary assessments has emerged as a major concern in nutritional epidemiology and new dietary assessment tools using computer technology to increase accuracy have been developed in many countries. The purpose of this study was to develop a web-based computer-assisted personal interview system (CAPIS) for conducting dietary assessment and to evaluate its practical utilization among Koreans. The client software was developed using Microsoft's ClickOnce technology, which allows communication with a database system via an http server to add or retrieve data. The system consists of a tracking system for the subject and researcher, a data-input system during the interview, a calculation system for estimating food and nutrient intake, a data-output system for presenting the results, and an evaluation system for assessing the adequacy of nutrient and food intake. Databases of the nutrient composition of common food (n = 3,642), recipes for common dishes (n = 1,886), and photos of serving sizes for food and dishes (n = 4,152) were constructed, and logical processes for data collection, calculation, and output were developed. The functionality, on-site applicability, and efficiency of CAPIS were evaluated in a convenience sample of 181 participants (61 males, 120 females; aged 24 to 85) by comparing with manual 24 hour recall method with paper questionnaire. The CAPIS was functioned adequately in the field survey in terms of completeness of function, security, and compliance of researcher and subjects. Regarding on-site applicability, 23.2%, 32.6%, 35.4%, and 43.7% of subjects reported that CAPIS was easier to recall their diet, to estimate the amount consumed, to communicate with the interviewer, and to concentrate on the interview than the manual method with paper questionnaire, respectively. Although CAPIS required more interview time (9 min 42 sec) compared to the manual method (7 min 30 sec), it saved time and cost for data coding and entry (15 min 35 sec) and gave high satisfaction from the prompt feedback after interview to the subjects, which increase efficiency to apply on the field survey. Our results suggest that the newly developed CAPIS is suitable for conducting personal interviews for dietary assessment in Korean population.
