Apocalipse pop: representações do fim do mundo em canções brasileiras da década de 1980 / Pop apocalypse: representations of the end of the world in Brazilian songs from the 1980s

Resumo Esta pesquisa, com o uso da metodologia sócio-histórica, aborda a relação entre a produção cultural e as visões sobre a ciência e a tecnologia na década de 1980. Analisa um repertório de canções lançadas nesse período que apresentam temática apocalítica por conta do contexto de Guerra Fria e das crises ambientais. A análise se fundamenta nas noções de horizonte de expectativas de Koselleck e nas expectativas decrescentes de Arantes. As canções estão agrupadas na temática nuclear e na temática ambiental. Observa que essas canções da década de 1980 representam uma mudança da expectativa nacional com relação ao futuro, apresentando um temor acerca de desastres nucleares ou ambientais.

Abstract This study utilized socio-historical methodology to investigate the relationship between cultural production and views on science and technology in the 1980s by analyzing a repertoire of songs released during this period containing apocalyptic themes due to the context of the Cold War and environmental crises. This exploration is based on Koselleck's notions of the horizon of expectations and on Arantes' concept of decreasing expectations. The songs centered around nuclear power and the environment. We observed that these songs from the 1980s represent a shift in national expectations about the future, exhibiting fears related to nuclear and environmental disasters.

Fayga Ostrower, uma vida aberta à sensibilidade e ao intelecto / Fayga Ostrower, a life open to sensibility and to the intellect

Este texto discute a contribuição da artista plástica, educadora e humanista Fayga Ostrower (1920-2001) ao tema ciência e arte. Fayga dedicou sua vida às artes plásticas e à educação artística. Entre 1948 e 2001, expôs suas obras em diversos museus brasileiros e estrangeiros. Lecionou durante 16 anos no Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, ministrou cursos nas principais instituições artísticas do país e proferiu palestras – para estudantes, artistas, operários e empresários – por todo o mundo, com carisma, didatismo e clareza. Além de uma breve biografia da artista, pretende-se apresentar aqui suas principais idéias sobre as relações entre a arte e a ciência, um tema que a fascinava. Muitas dessas reflexões foram registradas por ela em seu penúltimo livro, A sensibilidade do intelecto: visões paralelas de espaço e tempo na arte e na ciência, pelo qual recebeu o Prêmio Literário Jabuti, da Câmara Brasileira do Livro, em 1999.

The article discusses Fayga Ostrower's contribution to both science and art. Artist, educator, and humanist, Ostrower (1920-2001) devoted her life to art and art education. Between 1948 and 2001, her works were exhibited at numerous museums in Brazil and internationally. She taught at Rio de Janeiro's Museu de Arte Moderna for sixteen years, gave classes at Brazil's top art institutes, and lectured with charisma, enlightenment, and clarity to students, artists, workers, and businessmen around the world. The article offers a brief biography of the artist's life, and describes her main ideas on the relation between art and science, a topic that fascinated her. Many of these thoughts were recorded in her penultimate book, A sensibilidade do intelecto: visões paralelas de espaço e tempo na arte e na ciência (The sensibility of the intellect: parallel views of space and time in art and science), for which she received Brazil's top literary prize, the Jabuti, in 1999.

Luz, arte, ciência... ação! / Lights, art, science - action!

O principal objetivo do presente artigo é refletir sobre as principais interações entre teatro, ciência e tecnologia, ao longo da história do teatro, e discutir, a partir de nossa experiência no Ciência em Cena, espaço integrante do Museu da Vida, de que modos essas interações podem estar presentes no cotidiano de um museu de ciências. A palavra 'ciência' deve ser compreendida aqui em sentido amplo, englobando não apenas as ciências naturais, mas também as ciências humanas, assim como a palavra 'tecnologia' deve ser associada à ciência aplicada. Arte e ciência serão entendidas como processos criativos, como formas de representação do mundo e expressão do conhecimento humano.

The article offers some reflections on the main interactions between theater, science, and technology down through the history of theater. Based on our experience at "Science in the Spotlight", part of the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz's Museum of Life, we discuss how these interactions can be part of a science museum's daily activities. We use the word 'science' in its broad sense, encompassing not only the natural but human sciences as well; likewise, we use the word 'technology' as it relates to applied science. Art and science are understood here as creative processes, as ways of representing the world and expressing human knowledge.
