ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and inflexible behaviors/interests. To quantify ASD traits in adults with preserved intelligence, the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) was developed, which is a self-report instrument and one of the most used and recommended tools. Objectives: We aimed to present a descriptive analysis of the AQ in a sample of Brazilian adults with neurotypical development (n=385) and investigate how the scale performs in a clinical subsample (n=33). Methods: We recruited 1,024 participants. They answered the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20), AQ, and about their psychiatric record. Then, we selected 385 participants without any psychiatric diagnosis to describe the distribution of the ASD traits. To investigate the AQ performance, we evaluated 33 adults with ASD and 19 adults with neurotypical development from the total sample (n=1,024). Results: ASD traits were normally distributed in the population, with high internal consistency. Of a total of 91 men, volunteers with 32 points (clinical cutoff point) or more scored higher than 93% of the control sample. Of a total of 294 women, those who got a clinical score on the scale scored higher than 97%. In the clinical subsample (n=33), the positive predictive value (PPV) of the AQ was 0.84, and the negative predictive value (NPV) was 0.7. Conclusions: The study population has a different profile compared to the original study regarding the AQ scale. ASD traits were normally distributed in the neurotypical sample, and the scale seems to have a satisfactory performance to predict ASD. Future studies are required to adequate the use of the scale in the Brazilian population.


RESUMO. O transtorno do espectro do autismo (TEA) é caracterizado por dificuldades na interação social e comportamentos/interesses inflexíveis. Com o intuito de quantificar os traços de TEA em adultos com inteligência preservada, foi desenvolvido o quociente do espectro do autismo (QA), um instrumento de autorrelato muito utilizado e recomendado. Objetivos: Nosso objetivo foi apresentar uma análise descritiva do QA em uma amostra de adultos brasileiros com desenvolvimento neurotípico (n=385) e investigar o desempenho da escala em uma subamostra clínica (n=33). Métodos: Foram recrutados 1.024 participantes, que responderam ao Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20), ao QA e a questões sobre o seu histórico psiquiátrico. Em seguida, selecionamos 385 participantes sem qualquer diagnóstico psiquiátrico para descrever a distribuição dos traços de TEA. Para investigar o desempenho do QA, avaliamos 33 adultos com TEA e 19 adultos com desenvolvimento neurotípico da amostra total (n=1024). Resultados: As características do TEA apresentaram distribuição normal na amostra, com alta consistência interna. Do total de 91 homens, os voluntários com 32 pontos (ponto de corte clínico) ou mais pontuaram acima de 93% da amostra de controle. De 294 mulheres, aquelas que obtiveram pontuação clínica na escala pontuaram acima de 97%. Na subamostra clínica (n=33), o valor preditivo positivo do QA foi de 0,84 e o valor preditivo negativo foi de 0,7. Conclusões: A população estudada apresenta um perfil diferente comparada à população do estudo original, no que se refere à escala QA. Os traços de TEA foram normalmente distribuídos na amostra neurotípica, e a escala parece ter um desempenho satisfatório para predizer autismo. Estudos futuros são necessários para adequar o uso da escala na população brasileira.

RESUMEN El síndrome de Asperger (SA) constituye una forma de presentación del trastorno del espectro autista (TEA); el que se caracteriza por manifestaciones de alteraciones cualitativas durante la interacción social, con patrones repetitivos de comportamiento, además de dificultades motoras y del lenguaje; pero comúnmente tiene inteligencia, habilidades lingüísticas y taxonómicas normales. Se presenta el caso de un individuo adulto con los rasgos clásicos antes mencionados, que fue tratado durante su etapa escolar erróneamente atendiendo a diferentes diagnósticos. El que es trasladado a una unidad hospitalaria debido a un intento autolítico, donde se da inicio a una valoración multidisciplinaria; durante la cual, le son aplicados diferentes test psicológicos en el servicio de Psiquiatría, los que permitieron establecer diagnóstico de certeza de SA.


ABSTRACT Asperger Syndrome (AS) constitutes a form of presentation of the autism spectrum disorder (ASD); which is characterized by manifestations of qualitative alterations during social interaction, with a behavior repetitive patterns; As well as motor and language difficulties; but commonly with intelligence, language skills and normal taxonomic. This is the case of an individual adult with the classic features mentioned above, which was treated erroneously during his time at the school in response to different diagnoses. It is transferred to a hospital unit due to a suicidal attempt, where a multidisciplinary valuation begins, at which different psychological tests in the Psychiatry service were applied, they allow us to establish an Asperger Syndrome accurate diagnosis.


RESUMO A síndrome de Asperger (AS) é uma forma de apresentação do transtorno do espectro do autismo (ASD); aquele caracterizado por manifestações de alterações qualitativas durante a interação social, com padrões repetitivos de comportamento, bem como dificuldades motoras e de linguagem; mas geralmente tem inteligência normal, habilidades linguísticas e taxonômicas. É apresentado o caso de um indivíduo adulto com as características clássicas citadas, que foi tratado erroneamente durante a fase escolar, atendendo a diferentes diagnósticos. Aquele que é transferido para unidade hospitalar por tentativa de suicídio, onde é iniciada avaliação multiprofissional; durante o qual são aplicados diferentes testes psicológicos no serviço de Psiquiatria, o que permitiu estabelecer um determinado diagnóstico de SA.

ABSTRACT

Trastorno neurológico enmarcado dentro de los trastornos de espectro autista (TEA) cuyas manifestaciones se reflejan en los ámbitos de la comunicación, interacción e imaginación social. Se clasifica en el manual diagnóstico y estadístico de trastornos mentales (DSM IV), se caracteriza por un mayor o menor grado de deterioro en las habilidades de lenguaje y comunicación, así como patrones repetitivos o restrictivos de pensamiento y comportamiento. El síntoma más distintivo es el interés obsesivo en un solo objeto o tema y la exclusión de cualquier otro pero siempre conservando habilidades de lenguaje. El pronóstico es bueno, debido a la compensación cognitiva, el enfoque repetitivo y restrictivo a actividades humanas productivas o generadoras de deferencias particulares, aunque no hay tratamiento específico, sino más bien interdisciplinario e individualizado, éste consiste en manejar los síntomas conductuales y la comorbilidad de forma independiente ya sea farmacológica o intervencionista. Paciente masculino de cinco años de edad, con un peso de 26 kg, cuadro de inmunizaciones completas, previamente diagnosticado con trastorno de Asperger (2015); caries dental de diversos grados, manejo estomatológico para su rehabilitación. El objetivo de este reporte es dar a conocer los cuidados para el tratamiento dental en pacientes con este trastorno (AU)


Neurological disorder known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD) whose main manifestations are reflected in the areas of communication, interaction and social imagination. It was first classified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM lV), characterized by a greater or lesser degree of deterioration in language and communication skills, as well as repetitive patterns or restrictive of thought and behavior. The most distinctive symptom is obsessive interest in a single object or topic and the exclusion of any other, but always retaining language skills. The prognosis is good in most of the cases, due to the cognitive compensation, the repetitive and restrictive approach to productive or deferential human activities, although there is no specific treatment, but rather interdisciplinary and individualized, this consists of managing behavioral symptoms and comorbidity independently either pharmacologically or interventionally. Male patient with five years old and weight of 26 kg, complete immunization chart, previously diagnosed with Asperger's disorder (2015); with dental caries of various degrees implementing dental management. The objective of this report is to make aware of the care and behavior management for dental treatment in patients with this Disorder (AU)

ABSTRACT

El presente trabajo muestra algunos de los resultados que han derivado del estudio de investigación realizado en la tesis doctoral "Pedagogía de la Posibilidad. Estudio narrativo sobre el proceso educativo y resiliente de dos personas diagnosticadas de Síndrome de Asperger". Desde el enfoque de la investigación biográfica narrativa y a partir del análisis de los relatos de vida de Isabel y Emmit, nos acercamos a sus respectivas experiencias deportivas intra y extraescolares. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las potencialidades y debilidades de estas prácticas como vehículo de socialización. Sus narraciones nos trasladan a escenarios escolares en los que la Educación Física ha estado limitada a ciertos deportes de equipo y a actividades deportivas que no han estado adaptadas a sus necesidades motoras y/o hipersensoriales, y a actividades deportivas extraescolares que, en cierta medida, han potenciado el desarrollo de un proceso resiliente. Sus relatos muestran escenarios deportivos que, bien por limitaciones formativas o desinterés del profesorado, no se han adaptado a sus necesidades deportivas y sociales.


O presente trabalho mostra alguns dos resultados derivados do estudo de investigação realizado na tese de doutorado "Pedagogía de la Posibilidad. Estudio narrativo sobre el proceso educativo y resiliente de dos personas diagnosticadas de Síndrome de Asperger". A partir do enfoque da investigação biográfica narrativa e das análises dos relatos de vida de Isabel e Emmit, abordamos suas respectivas experiências desportivas intra e extraescolares. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar as potencialidades e debilidades destas práticas como veículos de socialização. Suas narrativas nos transportam a cenários escolares em que a Educação Física tem estado limitada a certos esportes de equipe e a atividades desportivas que não estão adaptadas a suas necessidades motoras e/ou hipersensoriais, e a atividades desportivas extraescolares que em certa medida têm potencializado o desenvolvimento de um processo resiliente. Seus relatos mostram cenários desportivos que por limitações formativas ou desinteresse dos professores não estão adaptados as suas necessidades pessoais e sociais.


This work shows some of the results of a study conducted for the doctoral thesis Pedagogía de la Posibilidad. Estudio narrativo sobre el proceso educativo y resiliente de dos personas diagnosticadas de Síndrome de Asperger. We approach Isabel's and Emmit's in-school and after-school sports experiences from the perspective of biographical narrative research and the analysis of their life stories. The objective of this work is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of these practices as vehicles for social integration. Their stories take us to school settings in which Physical Education has been limited to certain team sports and sports activities that have not been adapted to their motor and/or hyper sensory needs or to extracurricular sports activities that have somehow enhanced the development of a resilience process. Their stories show sports scenarios that - either because of training limitations or for lack of teachers' interest - have not been adapted to their sporting and social needs.

ABSTRACT

Introdução: o transtorno do espectro autista, por vezes denominado como transtornos invasivos do desenvolvimento, apresenta características clínicas centrais que incluem déficits qualitativos na interação social e na comunicação, padrões de comportamento repetitivos e estereotipados e um repertório limitado de interesses e atividades. Esse transtorno geralmente está associado ao transtorno do desenvolvimento da coordenação. Objetivo: verificar evidências científicas do impacto do exercício físico no tratamento do indivíduo portador do transtorno do espectro autista, inclusive quanto à coordenação motora e desenvolvimento cognitivo. Métodos: foram realizadas buscas nas bases de dados pubmed, lilacs, scielo e pedro sem restrição de idiomas ou localização e tempo até maio de 2019. A pesquisa foi realizada na base de dados com descritores selecionados a partir do dicionário descritores em ciências da saúde (decs) medical subject heading terms (mesh)[(autistic disorder) and (asperger syndrome) and (exercise) and (cognition)], tendo como critério de inclusão o fato de tratarem-se de estudos com o uso de exercício físico. Foi verificada a qualidade metodológica dos artigos incluídos através do protocolo modificado de pithon. Resultados: foram identificados 655 artigos, dos quais soment e 7 cumpriram os critérios de inclusão estabelecidos. Cada um dos estudos retratou abordagens distintas dos exercícios físicos, sendo aeróbios, de força, aquáticos, ou com uso de tecnologias. A quantidade e duração das sessões dos exercícios variaram de estudo para estudo. Conclusão: os programas de exercícios físicos trazem benefícios em diversos aspectos dos pacientes. Os programas de exercícios no meio aquático aparentemente se mostraram os mais eficazes. Abre-se, assim, uma lacuna na literatura para novos estudos que busquem explicações para esses resultados...(AU)


Introduction: autism spectrum disorder, sometimes referred to as invasive dev elop mental disorders, has central clinical characteristics that include qualitative deficits in so cial in teraction and communication, repetitive and stereotyped behavior patterns and a limited reperto ire of in terest s and activities. This disorder is usually associated with developmental coordination diso rder. Objective: to verify scientific evidence of the impact of physical exercise on the treatment of individuals wit h autism spectrum disorder, including motor coordination and cognitive development. Metho ds: s earches were carried out in the pubmed, lilacs, scielo and pedro databases without restriction of languages o r lo cation and time until may 2019. The research was carried out in the database with descriptors selected fro m the health sciences descriptors dictionary ( decs) medical subject heading terms (mesh) [(autistic disorder) and (asperger syndrome) and (exercise) and (cognition)], having as inclusion criteria the fact that t hey are studies with the use of physical exercise. The methodological quality of the articles included was verified through the modified pithon protocol. Results: 655 articles were identified, o f wh ich o nly 7 m et t he established inclusion criteria. Each of the studies portrayed different approaches to phy sical ex ercises, being aerobic, strength, aquatic, or using technologies. The number and duration o f ex ercise sessio ns varied from study to study. Conclusion: physical exercise programs have benefits in sev eral asp ects o f patients. The exercise programs in the aquatic environment hav e ap paren tly p roved t o be t h e m ost effective. Thus, a gap in the literature opens up for new studies that seek explanations for these results...(AU)

Resumo O presente estudo objetivou investigar os processos de insight em sujeitos com Transtorno de Asperger (TA). Entende-se por insight o conhecimento do próprio diagnóstico e os sentidos construídos a partir deste. O desenvolvimento doinsight é aqui compreendido não como função restrita à vida mental pessoal, mas como fenômeno intersubjetivo, forjado nas relações sociais. O arcabouço teórico que subsidia a presente pesquisa é a perspectiva genética de desenvolvimento avançada pela psicologia histórico-cultural. Para tanto, foram propostas a três díades de pais e adolescentes diagnosticados com TA duas tarefas de produção narrativa que investigaram aspectos relacionados às experiências Asperger. Os resultados sugerem que a característica central dos processos de insight no TA pode ser descrita como disrupção na transição do modo monológico para o modo dialógico de pensamento. Acredita-se que os resultados aqui encontrados contribuem para a compreensão da singularidade e eventicidade da existência e da experiência subjetiva.


Resumen El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar los procesos de insight en sujetos con trastorno de Asperger (TA). Insight significa el conocimiento del diagnóstico mismo y los significados construidos a partir de él. El desarrollo del insight se entiende aquí no como una función restringida a la vida mental personal, sino como un fenómeno intersubjetivo, forjado en las relaciones sociales. El marco teórico que sustenta esta investigación es la perspectiva genética del desarrollo que adelanta la psicología histórico-cultural. Para ello, a tres díadas de padres y adolescentes diagnosticados de TA se les ofrecieron dos tareas de producción narrativa que investigaban aspectos relacionados con las experiencias de Asperger. Los resultados sugieren que la característica central de los procesos de insight en TA puede describirse como una interrupción en la transición del modo de pensamiento monológico al dialógico. Se cree que los resultados encontrados aquí contribuyen a la comprensión de la singularidad y la eventualidad de la existencia y la experiencia subjetiva.


Abstract The present article aimed to investigate insight processes in people with Asperger disorder. Insight is understood as the knowledge of one's own diagnosis and the senses built from it. The insight development is understood here not as a function of personal psychological life, but as an intersubjective phenomenon, forged in social relations. The theoretical framework that subsidizes this research is the genetic perspective of development advanced by cultural-historical psychology. For this purpose, two tasks of narrative production were proposed to three dyads of parents and teenagers with AD, which investigated aspects related to Asperger experiences. The results suggest that the central characteristic of insight processes in AD can be described as a disruption in the transition of a thinking monologic mode to a thinking dialogic mode. It is believed that the results here found contribute to the comprehension of singularity and occurrence of subjective experience and existence.

ABSTRACT

Los trastornos del espectro autista (TEA) engloban a un grupo heterogéneo de trastornos del neurodesarrollo que tienen en común la presencia de problemas para la interacción/comunicación social y la tendencia a mostrar intereses restringidos o conductas repetitivas. Diversos estudios epidemiológicos realizados en diferentes países en los últimos años han mostrado de forma consistente dos características: el incremento progresivo en la prevalencia de los TEA a nivel mundial y la existencia de una gran variabilidad geográfica entre territorios y dentro de un mismo territorio. En el presente artículo analizamos los datos de prevalencia más recientemente publicados en EE.UU. y en diversos países de Europa (incluyendo España), que muestran tasas de prevalencia muy variables, con un rango que abarca desde 1/59 niños con trastornos del espectro autista en EE. UU., hasta 1/806 en Portugal. En un segundo tiempo describimos brevemente algunas de las principales hipótesis que intentan explicar esta variabilidad.


Autism spectrum disorders are a heterogeneous group of disorders that share the presence of two core symptoms: problems in social interaction / communication and the tendency to present restricted interests and repetitive behavior. Over the last years, several epidemiologic studies have been published by different authors in diverse countries, having all of them shown two common characteristics: a global increase in the prevalence rates of autism spectrum disorders, and the existence of a great geographical variability no only between geographical areas, but also within the same geographical areas. At the present manuscript, we analyze some of the most recent prevalence data published in USA and some European countries (including Spain). All of them show different prevalence rates, ranging from 1/59 children with autism spectrum disorders in the USA to 1/806 in Portugal. In a second part, we briefly describe some of the current scientific hypotheses that try to explain this variability.

RESUMO: A atenção à diversidade para tornar a educação inclusiva eficaz é o marco teórico conceitual no qual se apresenta este trabalho sobre um aluno com Síndrome de Asperger (SA), que se chama Juan. O objetivo deste artigo é identificar, descrever, analisar, interpretar, compreender e tornar visível uma boa prática de inclusão educacional com uma criança com Síndrome de Asperger baseada na aprendizagem cooperativa. Assim, por meio de uma metodologia qualitativa com um estudo de caso único, analisa-se uma experiência de inclusão educacional relatada pelas próprias crianças, e isso representa uma experiência de aprendizagem cooperativa. Atender às necessidades específicas de apoio educacional (NEAE) de Juan para facilitar sua inclusão é a espinha dorsal deste trabalho.


ABSTRACT: Attention to diversity to make inclusive education effective is the conceptual framework in which we present this case study on a student with Asperger's Syndrome (AS), whose name is Juan. The purpose of this paper is to identify, describe, analyze, interpret, understand and make visible a good practice of educational inclusion with a child with Asperger's Syndrome based on cooperative learning. Thus, through a qualitative methodology with a single case study, we analyze an educational inclusion experience reported by children themselves, and this represents a cooperative learning experience. Meeting Juan's specific educational support needs (NEAE) to facilitate his inclusion is the backbone of this work.

Objetivo analisar a produção científica brasileira recente sobre Transtornos do Espectro Autista, identificando as estratégias de cuidados investigadas. Método revisão integrativa de literatura na base de dados LILACS e na biblioteca virtual SciELO. Foram selecionados artigos publicados entre 2011 e 2017, utilizando os descritores Transtorno Autístico, Síndrome de Asperger e Síndrome de Rett. Resultados vinte e quatro artigos foram caracterizados e analisados descritivamente, com exposição dos seus níveis de evidência. Doze estudos (50%) representavam pesquisas descritivas, nível de evidência VI. Onze estudos (45,8%) equivaliam a delineamento não experimental, nível de evidência IV. A estratégia mais estudada foi de diagnóstico e avaliação para a prática clínica, com aplicação de instrumentos já validados, seguida de avaliação de resultados terapêuticos. Conclusão a produção científica brasileira atual sobre Transtorno do Espectro Autista mostrou-se direcionada para o enfoque diagnóstico nas áreas de fonoaudiologia e psicologia.

Objective to analyze the recent Brazilian scientific production about Autism Spectrum Disorders, identifying the investigated care strategies. Method integrative literature review in the database LILACS and in the virtual library SciELO. Articles published between 2011 and 2017 were selected, using the descriptors Autistic Disorder, Asperger Syndrome and Rett Syndrome. Results twenty four articles were characterized and analyzed descriptively, and their levels of evidence were presented. Twelve studies (50%) represented descriptive research, level of evidence VI. Eleven studies (45.8%) had non-experimental designs, level of evidence IV. The most studied strategy was the diagnosis and evaluation for clinical practice, by applying validated tools, followed by the assessment of therapeutic outcomes. Conclusion current Brazilian scientific production about Autism Spectrum Disorder was focused on diagnosis in speech therapy and psychology.

ABSTRACT

El Síndrome de Asperger (SA) fue descrito por primera vez en 1944 por el pediatra Austriaco Hans Asperger, quien también acuñó el término "autista" para caracterizar este trastorno en sus publicaciones. A partir de entonces, se ha ido develando la importancia de este trastorno, tanto por su elevada prevalencia, como por la repercusión social que comporta en las personas que lo padecen. A pesar de su descubrimiento hace seis décadas, el Síndrome de Asperger (SA) no fue reconocido oficialmente por la comunidad científica internacional hasta principios de la década de los noventa. El SA es un trastorno del neurodesarrollo, de base neurológica y por medio de estudios neurofuncionales se ha implicado a la disfunción de la corteza prefrontal y diferentes vías temporofrontales como responsables de ciertos aspectos clínicos, y por tanto, etiopatogénicos. Es un trastorno de la infancia que afecta predominantemente a varones y es similar al autismo pero en su versión más pura y menos grave. La evolución oscila entre excelente y pobre, debido a que muchos de estos pacientes no son remitidos al psiquiatra, al no ser considerados como un problema. RESUMEN Este artículo ofrece un reporte de la experiencia reveladora del diagnóstico de un varón adulto autista de alto funcionamiento por un médico no especializado y sus implicaciones para el conocimiento, las actitudes y la práctica al tratar con el espectro autista.

ABSTRACT

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) rarely are brought to clinical notice in geriatric population. This case isof a 64 years old gentleman with high-functioning ASD (diagnosed as Asperger’s Syndrome) presenting forsocial/ communication deficits affecting his personal life and career, resulting in depression and substanceabuse. His family was skeptical about his symptoms. He was successfully treated for depression andsubstance abuse; CBT, psychoeducation, individual therapy, social skills training were done to help himcope with his ASD symptoms. Family therapy was done to improve the family’s understanding of ASD andbonding with him. After 1 year of treatment, he is thriving in all aspects – better family relations, careermanagement and personal emotional well-being. This opens up a discussion regarding undiagnosed ASD inolder adults and elderly, comorbidities, the resulting community mental health burden which goes neglected,and therefore the need for more vigilant detection, and treatment options.

Abstract: Introduction: Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by difficulties in communication and social interaction. The theory of mind (TM) links social deficiencies in ASD with a difficulty in representing the mental states of other people. The Mu rhythm (8-13Hz) has been studied as an expression of the possible neuronal basis of TM. In ASD, the physiological reactivity of the Mu rhythm to motor events is affected. During sleep, there are also phenomena related to sensorimotor processing. Objective: To characterize the Mu rhythm in the sleep of children with level 1 ASD, ages six to 10, and compare it with control children paired by age and sex. Method: Polysomnographic records for two consecutive nights. The record of the second night was analyzed visually (the first was considered habituation) to identify and select Mu rhythm segments throughout the night. The extracted segments were analyzed using the fast Fourier transform and subsequently with t tests on the data of C3 and C4. Results: A significant difference was found in the power spectrums of C3 and C4t (1, 144) = 3.038, p = .003 and t (1, 144) = -2.301, p = .023, respectively. Discussion and conclusion: The results of this study are consistent with the morphological and topographic characteristics found in studies conducted during wakefulness. The results suggest that the Mu rhythm is caused intrinsically, without external sensory stimulation, and that there is a difference in this generation in the population with ASD.


Resumen: Introducción: El trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) se caracteriza por dificultades en la comunicación e interacción social. La teoría de la mente (TM) vincula las deficiencias sociales en el TEA con una dificultad para representar los estados mentales de otros. El ritmo Mu (8-13Hz) se ha estudiado como expresión del posible fundamento neuronal de la TM. En el TEA, la reactividad fisiológica del ritmo Mu a eventos motores se ve afectada. Durante el sueño también hay fenómenos relacionados con el procesamiento sensomotor. Objetivo: Caracterizar el ritmo Mu en el sueño de niños con TEA nivel 1, en edades de seis a 10 años, y compararlo con niños control pareados por edad y sexo Método: Registros polisomnográficos durante dos noches consecutivas. Se analizó visualmente el registro de la segunda noche (la primera se consideró de habituación) para identificar y seleccionar segmentos de ritmo Mu a lo largo de ella. Los segmentos extraídos fueron analizados por medio de la transformada rápida de Fourier y posteriormente con pruebas t sobre los datos de C3 y C4 Resultados: Se encontró una diferencia significativa en los espectros de potencia de C3 and C4t (1, 144) = 3.038, p = .003 y t (1, 144) = -2.301, p = .023, respectivamente. Discusión y conclusión: Los resultados de este estudio son consistentes con características morfológicas y topográficas encontradas en estudios hechos durante la vigilia. Los resultados sugieren que el ritmo Mu se estaría generando de manera intrínseca, sin estimulación sensorial externa, y que existe una diferencia en esta generación en población con TEA.

Resumen Objetivo: Describir el comportamiento de los resultados obtenidos en distintas pruebas de eva luación de Teoría de la Mente (Test de expresiones faciales, Test de Sally y Ann, Historias extrañas de Happé y Faux Pas) y el Test Coeficiente de Empatía y Sistematización para niños de 4 a 11 años de Baron-Cohen; además pretendió determinar si existía una correlación entre los constructos de Teoría de la Mente y Empatía. Método: De tipo cuantitativo, empírico-analítico, exploratorio-descriptivo y de campo, donde se tomó como muestra para el grupo de casos a 8 niños y 2 niñas, en tre los 7 y los 11 años de edad, diagnosticado(a)s con síndrome de Asperger, asistentes a procesos terapéuticos en un Instituto de Desarrollo Integral, mientras que para el grupo control seleccionó a 8 niños y 2 niñas de una Institución educativa pública de Manizales, no diagnosticado(a)s con síndrome de Asperger, equiparados con el grupo de casos respecto a género y edad; ambos grupos contaron con el respectivo consentimiento informado de sus padres o acudientes legales. El análi sis estadístico se realizó a través de las pruebas U de Mann Whitneyy Chi-Cuadrado. Resultados: Corroboraron diferencias poblacionales en las pruebas, donde el grupo control obtuvo mejores puntajes que el grupo de casos en general; sin embargo no fue posible encontrar una correlación entre la Teoría de la Mente y la Empatía. Conclusión: Se sugieren nuevas investigaciones con muestras de mayor tamaño para evitar la dispersión de los datos.


Abstract Objective: Compare the behavior of the results obtained in the different tests of theory of mind (Facial Expressions Test, Sally Anne Test, Happe's strange stories tasks and Faux Pas Test) and the coefficient Test of empathy and systematization for children 4 to 11 years by Baron-Cohen; Also was intended to determine if there is a correlation between both constructs. Method: Empirical- analytic, exploratory-descriptive and of field, it took as sample for the group of cases to 8 boys and 2 girls, betwen 7 and 11 years old, diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, assistants to thera peutic processes in an Institute of Integral development, while for the control group were took to 8 boys and 2 girls from a public educational Institution of Manizales, without the diagnostic of Asperger syndrome, matched with the group of cases respect to gender and age; both groups had the respective informed condense from their parents or their legal assistants. The statistical analysis was made with U de Mann Whitney y Chi-Cuadrado. Results: Corroborated differences in tests, where the control group got better scores than the group of cases; however, it was not possible to find a correlation between empathy and theory of mind. Conclusion: It is suggested new researches with larger sample size to avoid the dispersion of data.

Paciente, 18 años, hijo único, pololeando. Antecedentes Psiquiátricos Familiares (+). Repitió 3 veces el 1ero básico. Aislamiento social e intereses restringidos desde la infancia. Derivado de Alter joven. Historia de larga data (>1 año) de mayor descuido de higiene personal, aislamiento social e irritabilidad. Hipótesis diagnóstica: TEA. Seguimiento con controles médicos, con terapeuta ocupacional y psicoterapia. Examen mental al inicio: Con escaso contacto visual. Pseudocontactado, hipomímico. Afecto con rango de expresividad emocional disminuido. Humor depresivo. Lenguaje lacónico, aprosódico. Al examen (6 meses después) destaca buen arreglo personal, contactado, establece contacto visual, tranquilo, adecuado, cooperador, eutímico, mímica facial acorde al relato, lenguaje bien articulado, con manierismos y estereotipias, prosodia alterada, pensamiento estructurado, con rigidez cognitiva y concreto.


Patient, 18 years old, only child, in love relationship. Family Psychiatric Background (+). He repeated 3 times the 1st basic course. Social isolation and restricted interests from childhood. Derived from Young Alter. Long history (> 1 year) of greater neglect of personal hygiene, social isolation and irritability. Diagnostic hypothesis: ASD. Follow-up with medical controls, occupational therapist and psychotherapy. Mental exam at the start: With little eye contact. Pseudocontact, hypomimic. Affect with decreased emotional expressiveness. Depressive mood. Laconic language, aprosodic.

ABSTRACT

En un grupo de 46 niños y adolescentes (5-14 años de edad) con trastornos del espectro autista, consumo elevado de harinas y azucares en su dieta y antecedentes de consumo de antibióticos frecuentes, se analizan muestras de saliva, orina y materia fecal (n=15). Comparados con muestras de un grupo normal (n=10), se detectan variaciones significativas en el pH salival, tiempo de recuperación del pH, viscosidad, flujo, y valores elevados de IgA e IgG en saliva. En orina predomina la proteinuria y la acidez, en la materia fecal no se hallaron parásitos ni C albicans. Estos cambios pueden responder a fenómenos alérgicos y alteraciones de la permeabilidad intestinal aspectos que deben ser investigados luego, pero los resultados muestran variantes significativas que permitirán elegir los sujetos preferentes para futuras investigaciones y/o generar la sospecha para la derivación temprana de pacientes sin diagnóstico y con síntomas mínimos (AU)


Samples of saliva, urine and fecal (n=15) was analyzed in a group of 46 children and teenagers (5-14 years old) with autism spectrum disorders, high consumption of flour and sugar with diet, and a history of frequent antibiotic consumption. Compared to a group of normal children (n=10), significant variations in saliva composition as pH, time to pH recovery, viscosity, flux and IgA and IgG concentration were observed, proteinuria and acidity findings predominate in the urinalysis, and the absence of parasites and C Albicans were notices at the fecal samples. These changes can respond to immune-allergic and intestinal permeability conditions, aspects that should be further investigated. Patients with these findings can be preferentially select for future studies and/ or generate suspects in undiagnosed individuals with minimal symptoms that can be early derive to proper treatment (AU)

ABSTRACT

New technologies designed to improve the communication of autistic children can also help to promote interaction processes and cognitive and social development. The aim of this study was to analyze the instruments used to improve the communication skills of children with autism spectrum disorder. We searched the PubMed and Web of Science databases using the descriptors "autism", "Asperger", "education", "children" and "assistive technology" and selected articles that met the following inclusion criteria: (i) original research; (ii) written in English; (iii) based on participants with a primary diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder; and (iv) tested an instrument designed to promote communication in children with autism spectrum disorder. Our search retrieved 811 articles, of which 34 met the inclusion criteria. Data on 26 instruments were extracted, and the measurement properties of the instruments were combined with information about their outcomes and presentation. The most commonly used interventions were the Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children program and the Picture Exchange Communication System. The Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children program was shown to produce improvements in the communication skills, socialization and self-care skills of children with autism spectrum disorder. The Picture Exchange Communication System produced inconsistent results. The results of the identified studies confirm the significant importance of these instruments in improving the communicative process of autistic children.

ABSTRACT

El Síndrome de Asperger es una enfermedad del neurodesarrollo caracterizado por deficiencias en la interacción social y la comunicación, sin retraso en el desarrollo cognitivo y del lenguaje, considerado dentro de los Trastornos Generalizados del Desarrollo y de las Condiciones del Espectro Autista. Debido a las características de este síndrome estos pacientes requieren atención y técnicas conductuales específicas, para poder realizar el tratamiento dental. El objetivo de este reporte es dar a conocer los cuidados y el manejo de conducta para el tratamiento dental en pacientes con Síndrome de Asperger.

Resumen Objetivo: Se realizó el tamizaje de niños y adolescentes estudiantes de Bucaramanga y Medellín con el fin de identificar manifestaciones del Síndrome de Asperger (SA). Método: Luego de la firma del consentimiento informado por parte de los padres, se escogió en forma aleatoria 1.600 padres de niños y adolescentes de instituciones educativas de Bucaramanga y Medellín. Se excluyeron los estudiantes con discapacidad intelectual. Las escalas CAST y ASSQ, útiles para la identificación de indicadores de riesgo para la presencia de SA, fueron aplicadas en diferente orden, considerándose positivos para SA los puntajes superiores o iguales a 15 para CAST y 22 para ASSQ. Para el análisis estadístico se usó Stata SE 12.1. Resultados: Se encontraron mani festaciones del SA en el 9,1 % de la muestra con la escala ASSQ (IC95 % 7,7 % a 10,6 %) y un 8,8 % con la escala CAST (IC95 % 7,2 % a 10,7 %). No se encontraron diferencias significativas por ciudad, estrato o edad; pero sí por sexo, siendo más frecuente en varones que en mujeres tanto en la escala CAST (ZW=-3.569, p<0.001) como en la ASSQ (ZW=-2.089, p=0.037). Dis cusión: Las dos escalas identificaron manifestaciones de SA siendo mayor la presencia en varones que en mujeres. Sin embargo, no se recomienda su uso en contexto clínico y sí en tamizajes que incluyan evaluación por expertos en desarrollo de niños y adolescentes.


Abstract Objective: Researchers conducted screening tests (Childhood Asperger Syndrome Test (CAST) and The Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) in order to identify Colombian school children and teenagers from Bucaramanga and Medellin at risk for Asperger Syndrome (AS). Method: After signed informed parent consent, 1.600 school students between ages of 4 and 16 were selected randomly from educational institutions from Bucaramanga and Medellin. In order to identify children at risk for (AS), The Childhood Asperger Syndrome Test (CAST) and The Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) scales were applied in different ways, considering as follows: those who score positive are greater than or equal to 15 for the CAST and 22 for the ASSQ. For the statistical analysis, SE 12.1 Stata version was used. Results: In 9,1 % of the children sampled with diagnosis of (As), using ASSQ scale (95 % 7,7 % 10.6 %) and 8,8 with CAST scale (95 % 7,2 % 10,7 %) There were no significant differences taking into account city, stratum or age. But a positive score for gender was more frequent in men than in women both with CAST scale ZW = 3.569 p<0.001) as in the ASSQ (ZW = 2.089, p = 0.037) Discussion: (SA) diagnosis was identified with a higher presence in men than in women by the two scales. However, it is not recommended to use these scales in clinical context but through screening test which include evaluation in the development of children and adolescents by experts.

Las peculiaridades que presentan las personas con Síndrome de Asperger (SA) han sugerido el abordaje del mismo desde distintas perspectivas, por un lado, aspectos epistemológicos y cognitivos, por otro lado, neurobiológicos que tratan de describir este padecimiento. Dentro de las peculiaridades que se han descrito se encuentran aspectos cognitivos como la memoria, visuoespacialidad, habilidades sociales y emociones. Las emociones son esenciales para el desarrollo de habilidades sociales y se han encontrado peculiaridades al respecto en las personas con SA. De esta manera, el objetivo es revisar los hallazgos existentes sobre el estudio de las emociones en personas con Síndrome de Asperger que, a su vez, permitirán desarrollar posibles niveles de abordaje en el área clínica


The peculiarities presented among the Asperger's Syndrome have suggested approaching it from different perspectives; including epistemological, cognitive and neurobiological, pretending to explain this impairment. Among these peculiarities that have been described are cognitive aspects such as memory, visuospatial skills, social skills, and emotions. The emotion domain is basic to develop social abilities, and there are peculiarities found in the Asperger Syndrome's patients respect to this matter. According to this, the aim of this paper is to review the current findings respect to the emotions in people with the Asperger's Syndrome, as this allows developing tentative approaching levels within the clinic context.
