ABSTRACT

@#Prosthetic rehabilitation offers an alternative to surgical procedures for repositioning implant-retained auricular prosthesis. This report illustrates a prosthetic rehabilitation of a 15-year- old male with a unilateral microtia who presented with an unfavorable implant-retained left auricular prosthesis. The implants placed seven years ago were drifted posterosuperior away from the ideal ear canal position. The fabrication of a new prosthesis on the existing bar-clip attachment using a custom acrylic base was planned to correct the location. A skin-colour perforated custom acrylic base was fabricated and designed to extend anteriorly, therefore, shifting the prosthesis forwards into a more natural location. The custom base was able to relocate the prosthesis’ position without compromising its retention whilst engaging the existing implant attachment. This in turn enhanced prosthesis acceptability and improved the patient’s confidence. The custom acrylic base serves as a viable option to reposition the prosthesis influenced by age related growth and development.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Rehabilitation of severe hemi-facial defectsposes a challenge to the Prosthodontist. Defects involvingmore than one facial part with asymmetry of contra lateralside require careful planning and technical skills to providethe prostheses.Case Report: This article presents a case of of hemi-facialdefect due to chemical burn injury rehabilitated with custommade silicone prosthesis. It also highlights a technique offlasking used for the fabrication of the prosthesis combiningorbital and nasal defects. Conclusion: The technique used for the rehabilitation ofconventional silicone prostheses can be well utilized whenimplants are not feasible.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Absence of external auricle predisposes anindividual to a great deal of psychological trauma alongwith functional complications. The conventional methodsof fabrication of auricular prosthesis by duplicating themorphology of the normal contralateral ear are timeconsuming, error-prone and very much subjective in terms ofquality.Case report: The present case report describes rehabilitationof a patient of traumatic anotia of left side with a custommade adhesive retained silicone prosthesis, developed withthe help of computer aided designing and rapid prototypingtechnology. Conclusion: Consistent good quality prosthesis may beobtained using advanced digital technologies that includeoptical scanning, computer-aided designing (CAD) and rapidprototyping (RP) which are more objective in nature.

ABSTRACT

Facial prosthetic rehabilitation is an important tool for handicapped patients with no possibilities to reconstruct the lost organ due to the improvements on esthetics and function, its associated psychosocial issue, and oftentimes impairment on quality of life and social behavior. This paper illustrates a case report where an adult female patient victimized by physical trauma was rehabilitated by means of an auricular prosthesis with dental implants and magnetic attachments. After 9 months, the prosthesis has demonstrated no color alterations and the implants are stable

ABSTRACT

Bone-anchored auricular prosthesis have been proved that was another apporach to the treatment of the defective external ear. A 19years old woman with hemifacial microsomia was treated with osseointegrated implants for the support of craniofacial prosthesis. 3 implants were placed in temporal region and craniofacial prosthesis was retained with telescopic magnet retention system. The literatures and surgical technique are reviewed and our experience is presented.
