ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To provide reference for the construction and development of outpatient automated pharmacy in China.METHODS:By accessing to relevant literature, information released by authoritative website and data announced by related automated pharmacy equipment manufacturers, the development of domestic automated pharmacy was analyzed and summarized from software and hardware. Then, solutions and suggestions could be put forward according to domestic medical reform in China.RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS:At present, there are some problems in the construction of automated pharmacy in China, such as inadequate management and defects of software and hardware. In view of these problems,it is suggested that hospital managers, equipment users and research and development personnel take corresponding measures to promote the development of automated pharmacies in China, such as strengthening the formulation of various emergency plans and personnel training, developing new products or new functions as modular automated pharmacy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To introduce the experience on how to build modern pharmaceutical logistics and dispensing system in outpatient pharmacy, and to provide reference for the construction of modern outpatient pharmacy. METHODS:The pharmaceuti-cal logistics system could be constructed by setting up secondary warehouse, pharmaceutical supply chain management system (PSCMS) and electronic drug storage system (EDSS);pharmaceutical dispensing system could be constructed through allocating automatic drug dispensing machine with different functions reasonably to carry out dispensing way of different modes combination, building automated pharmacy management system and developing emergency plan for the system fault of the automated pharmacy. The effects of logistics and dispensing system in our hospital were evaluated through comparing related index before and after the application of the systems. RESULTS:With the aid of PSCMS,the drug purchase information could be collected and calculated au-tomatically,the frequency and working time of the purchase were reduced by 50% and 75% respectively, and the accuracy of the purchase plan was increased by 12.5%;with the EDSS,the position and number information of the drugs could be acquired imme-diately,and the complementation and inventory time were decreased by 67% and 58% respectively;the time for manual dispens-ing was reduced by 68%,and the incidence of internal mistakes was decreased by 76.7%;under new dispensing system, the pre-scription could be distributed automatically and intelligently, the rate of automatic prescription processing was increased to 72.7%, and the average waiting time to pick up drugs was controlled to below 10 min. CONCLUSIONS:The pharmacists’working effi-ciency and the quality of pharmaceutical care have been improved by the modern pharmaceutical logistics and dispensing system, which settle the foundation for the transformation of the pharmaceutical care mode.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To reduce the error rate of inventory in the automated pharmacy of our hospital. METHODS:Activi-ties were designed and implemented by the management method of quality control circles(QCC)-PDCA(Plan,Do,Check and Ac-tion)cycle. The reasons for the errors of inventory in the automated pharmacy were analyzed to investigate and implement counter-measures. Visible and invisible achievements were evaluated, and then standardized processes were made. RESULTS:The errors of inventory in the automated pharmacy mainly included those of drug dispensing, drug shelving, drug return sheet, automatic medi-cine dispensing machine and system. In view of the above reasons, relevant standards were formulated and performed, including the process of warehouse-out check and shelving of drugs, drug dispensing process for the automated pharmacy, the process of sec-ondary check, etc. After the implementation of the activities, the error rate of inventory in the automated pharmacy reduced from 9.17% to 3.77%,which was visible achievement;and the above-mentioned standardized processes could ensure continuous run-ning of PDCA cycle. The practice, sense of responsibility, communication and coordination of management members in PDCA cy-cle namely invisible achievements were improved to some extent. CONCLUSIONS:The management method of QCC-PDCA cycle is feasible in reduction of the error rate of inventory in the automated pharmacy, which can provide a reference for automated phar-macy management.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To optimize the placement of extra-machine medicines in the automated pharmacy and establish a ra-pid dispensing area to shorten medicine dispensing time. METHODS:12 588 prescriptions made within one week were collected from the outpatient pharmacy of our hospital,in which 29 kinds of extra-machine medicines used frequently were clustered on the basis of Pearson correlation coefficients. The extra-machine medicines used at a higher frequency were arranged in the storage posi-tions near to the medicine dispensing window, and those related to the above-mentioned medicines were stored in the positions adja-cent to them, thereby a rapid dispensing area was established. The effect of the above-said method was evaluated by comparing the time it took for the pharmacist to dispense medicines one week before and after the establishment of the rapid dispensing area. RE-SULTS:29 kinds of extra-machine medicines were clustered into 4 major categories, and stored in 4 positions in the rapid med-icine dispensing area respectively, and then the position codes were assigned. After the rapid dispensing area was established, the average single prescription dispensing time for the pharmacist decreased by about 9 s (40.43 s vs. 31.43 s,P<0.01). CONCLU-SIONS:The establishment of the rapid dispensing area based on cluster analysis method has increased the efficiency of dispensing medicines in the outpatient pharmacy of our hospital.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To facilitate the application of automated pharmacy systems in Chinese pharmaceutical retail business. METHODS: The changes brought about by the application of the ROWA automated pharmacy systems in Shanghai No.1 Pharmacy were analyzed and the relative data at 1 year before and after the application of the ROWA system were analyzed statistically. RESULTS: Due to the automatic sales system, the working efficiency has been improved, the space was saved, the management has been optimized and the sales volume of drugs has been increased in Shanghai No.1 pharmacy. CONCLUSION: The application of automated pharmacy systems is successful in Shanghai No.1 Pharmacy, but considering of its high cost, ROWA system is more applicable for big city especially the large-scale pharmaceutical retail business in central location with large drug sales.
