ABSTRACT

Chirabilvadi Yoga is a combination of four drugs Chirabilva, Arjuna, Jyotishmati and Kakanasa in powder form, each of these ingredients has solid base of previous experimental studies for their individual analgesic activity. Bhavana (trituration) is an important Samskara (process) mentioned in Ayurvedic classics by which drug may be made very potent to produce a positive results. Till date no data available on this combination Bhavita Chirabilvadi Yoga triturated seven times with Chirabilva Patra Swarasa and made dried powder. Present study is to screen the differences in pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical profile of the Chirabilvadi Yoga before and after Bhavana. After Bhavana significant changes were found in the pharmacognostical parameters like deformated rosette crystals and cluster crystal of Arjuna and broken stone cells of Arjuna, which are rarely found before Bhavana of the drug and also evaluate the differences in the pharmaceutical profile before and after Bhavana like loss on drying, ash value, acid insoluble ash, water soluble extract, methanol soluble extract, pH and HPTLC.

ABSTRACT

Rasasastra is a specialised branch of Ayurveda that deals with Rasa dravyas which include Visha dravyas used for the preparation of therapeutically potent medicines. Agnikumara rasa of Bhaishajya Ratnavali Jwara adhikara reference is one such herbal formulation that contains a major proportion of Shodhita Vatsanabha and other ingredients of Maricha, Vacha, Kushta, Mushta, and Ardraka. It is a Kharaliya yoga (a formulation prepared in mortar) prepared by Bhavana samskara (levigation). As the number of levigation is not mentioned, three samples were prepared by doubling the number of Bhavana (levigation) of the preceding sample and physico-chemical analysis of these samples was done and compared. In Charaka samhita Vimanasthana, Acharya has explained the relevance of Samskara for imparting new Gunas (properties) and thereby potentiating the drug. The present study was done to identify a better analytical profile among the samples. It was found that some of the analytical parameters like hardness, disintegration time were modified with Bhavana which may increase the bioavailability of the drug and thereby its therapeutic potency

ABSTRACT

Rasa oushadies are the potent Ayurvedic preparations mainly containing metals and minerals. These oushadies possess a wide range of therapeutic efficacy and are considered superior because of their qualities like small dose, quick action, palatability and longer shelf life. Kanyalohadi Vati is an important Rasaoushadi described in Rasa Tantra Sara Va Siddha Prayoga Sangraha indicated for the management of the diseases Anartava, Kashtartava and Aniyamithartava. The ingredients present in the “Kanyalohadi vati” are Kaseesa Bhasma, Elua (Musambaram), Twak, Ela, Sunthi and Gulkand. The main pharmaceutical procedures involved in the preparation of Kanyalohadi Vati are Shodhana, Bhavana, Marana, Elua nirmana, Gulkand nirmana, Churna nirmana and preparation of Kanyalohadi Vati. The specific pharmaceutical blend of these contents can result in a more effective formulation.
