Evaluación de la gestión de calidad en la red de bibliotecas médicas de Villa Clara / Evaluation of quality management in Villa Clara medical library network

La calidad es una exigencia vigente a nivel mundial en el área de la educación, a su vez constituye un indicador fundamental para las instituciones educativas, sujetas a proporcionar un servicio de excelencia. Por ello resulta necesario evaluar la gestión de calidad en las bibliotecas médicas de Villa Clara, de manera tal que se contribuya al mejoramiento de su funcionamiento y lograr un mayor nivel de satisfacción de las necesidades informativas de sus usuarios. Se tomaron como referentes teóricos el modelo de evaluación de bibliotecas universitarias cubanas, y los documentos normativos y teórico-metodológicos del Centro Nacional de Información sobre la temática.

Quality is a worldwide requirement in the education area, and at the same time it is a fundamental indicator for educational institutions which are subjected to provide a service of excellence. For this reason, evaluating the quality management of medical libraries in Villa Clara is a necessity, in order to contribute to the improvement of their functioning and to achieve a higher level of satisfaction of their users' information needs. The evaluation model for Cuban university libraries and the normative, theoretical and methodological documents of the National Information Center of Medical Sciences regarding this subject were taken as theoretical references.

El bibliotecario en el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social / The librarian at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social

En las unidades de información que integran el Sistema Bibliotecario del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), la tarea de orientar y formar a los usuarios sobre el uso de información es un proceso complejo, debido a la especificidad de las necesidades de información de los usuarios. Los sistemas de información que son utilizados en el Instituto exigen al personal bibliotecario contar con competencias informativas específicas para el acceso, evaluación, organización y uso de la información por medio de las tecnologías de la información. Sin embargo, existen grandes retos, como la carencia de la definición del perfil profesional del bibliotecario médico, ya que es indispensable para que el personal logre satisfacer de forma eficiente las demandas y necesidades de los usuarios de acuerdo con sus diversos perfiles.

In the information units that make up the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) Library System, the task of guiding and training users on the use of information is a complex process, due to the specificity of the users' information needs. The information systems that are used in the Institute require the personal librarian to have specific information skills for access, evaluation, organization and use of information through information technologies. However, there are important challenges, such as the lack of definition of the professional profile of the medical librarian, because it is essential for the staff to efficiently satisfy the demands and needs of users according to their various profiles.

Los servicios de información ante la pandemia por COVID-19 / Information services facing the COVID-19 pandemic

La pandemia por COVID-19 ocasionó diversas afectaciones en el mundo, entre ellas la saturación de información en los medios de comunicación tradicionales y en los de divulgación científica, debido a la producción acelerada de material informativo. En el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, el personal bibliotecario ha contribuido a la selección cuidadosa de documentos, ya que brinda servicios de información especializada al personal de salud para apoyarlo en actividades académicas, educativas, docentes y de investigación. En el contexto del distanciamiento fìsico, la necesidad de contar con información actualizada y veraz sobre el nuevo coronavirus se convirtió en una prioridad. En este sentido, el personal bibliotecario enfocó sus esfuerzos en llevar a cabo estrategias que permitieran brindar servicios de información especializada vía remota al reforzar los servicios de referencia, como la alerta bibliográfica y la Diseminación Selectiva de Información, a fin de hacer llegar a los usuarios, de forma oportuna, sencilla y ágil, información actualizada, confiable y de calidad sobre la COVID-19. Estos servicios han sido bien recibidos por los usuarios, pero aún es necesario sistematizar el otorgamiento de servicios de información para identificar cuáles documentos son de mayor interés y utilidad.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused various effects in the world, among them the saturation of information in the traditional media, as well as in those of scientific dissemination, due to the accelerated production of informative material. At the Mexican Institute for Social Security (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social), librarians have contributed to the careful selection of documents as they are in charge of providing specialized information services to health personnel in order to support them in academic, educational, teaching and research activities. In the context of physical distancing, the need for up-to-date and accurate information on the new coronavirus became a priority. In this sense, librarians have focused their efforts to carry out strategies that would allow to provide specialized information services remotely, reinforcing reference services such as bibliographic alert and Selective Information Dissemination, to reach users in a timely manner, simple and agile, updated, reliable and quality information on COVID-19. These services have been well received by users, but it is still necessary to systematize the provision of information services to identify which documents are of greatest interest and usefulness.

Bibliodebate, una vía para la capacitación del personal que labora en las bibliotecas médicas / Bibliodebate: a tool for the professional development of health librarians

La emergencia sanitaria ocasionada por la pandemia de la COVID-19 impone mantenerse actualizado y continuar aprendiendo mediante el uso de las redes y de los entornos virtuales. En el año 2013 el área de Atención de la Red del Centro Provincial de Información de Ciencias Médicas de Mayabeque creó el boletín electrónico Bibliodebate, que se distribuye vía correo electrónico mediante la utilización de la lista de discusión Biblioredmay, y que se encuentra disponible en el sitio web de la institución y en las redes sociales. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y longitudinal en la red de bibliotecas de la provincia para valorar la efectividad del boletín Bibliodebate a partir de su uso por el personal que labora en las bibliotecas médicas. Resulta significativo que solamente tres encuestados lo descargan del sitio web institucional y 14 (51,8 por ciento) lo usan como vía para capacitarse en temas relacionados con la biblioteca. De ellos, 12 son informáticos. El 81,4 por ciento evaluó el boletín de excelente. Se concluye que el boletín Bibliodebate contribuye al aprendizaje en red del personal que labora en las bibliotecas médicas de la provincia(AU)

The health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic makes it necessary to remain updated and continue to learn through the use of virtual networks and environments. In the year 2013 the care section of the network at the Provincial Medical Sciences Information Center of Mayabeque created the electronic bulletin Bibliodebate, which is distributed via electronic mail using the discussion list Biblioredmay and made available in the website of the institution and in social networks. A retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was conducted in the network of libraries of the province to evaluate the effectiveness of the bulletin Bibliodebate based on its use by health librarians. It is noteworthy that only three respondents download the bulletin from the institutional website and 14 (51.8percent) use it as a professional development tool about topics related to the library. Of these, 12 are information specialists. 81.4percent evaluated the bulletin as excellent. It is concluded that the bulletin Bibliodebate contributes to network learning by health librarians in the province(AU)

The structure of qualitative studies: a bibliometric pattern of biomedical literature / A estrutura de estudos qualitativos: um padrão bibliométrico da literatura biomédica

Abstract The lack of knowledge in the biomedical literature regarding the validity of qualitative studies might be related to the lower number of qualitative studies that have been published. The criticisms range from a lack of theoretical depth to the superficial discussions of empirical findings. The aim of this study was to explore the bibliometric entities and the trends in the structure of qualitative research in the biomedical literature. A bibliometric analysis and mapping of the biomedical literature were used. The number of studies selected was 1,725. The heath themes with the most publications included Health Management (12%) and Women's Health (9.8%), while the authors of the studies had academic affiliation in 76 different countries. The sample sizes were between 11 and 20 participants (27.13%) and the Grounded Theory framework (9.04%) stood out. The improved structuring of a qualitative research extends the effective communication between health providers and researchers, and support in the management of clinical situations.

Resumo A dificuldade de entendimento na literatura biomédica sobre a validade dos estudos qualitativos pode estar relacionada ao menor número de estudos qualitativos publicados. As críticas também vão desde a falta de profundidade teórica até discussões pouco objetivas de descobertas empíricas. O objetivo deste estudo foi explorar padrões bibliométricos e as tendências na estrutura das pesquisas qualitativas na literatura biomédica. Utilizou-se análise bibliométrica e mapeamento da literatura biomédica. O número de estudos selecionados foi 1.725. Os temas de saúde com mais publicações incluíram Gestão em Saúde (12%) e Saúde da Mulher (9,8%), enquanto os autores dos estudos tiveram afiliação acadêmica em 76 países diferentes. O tamanho da amostra mais observado foi de 11 a 20 participantes (27,13%) e o referencial da Grounded Theory (9,04%) o mais utilizado. A estruturação aprimorada de uma pesquisa qualitativa amplia a comunicação eficaz entre profissionais de saúde e pesquisadores, além de apoiar o gerenciamento de situações clínicas.

Uso de la biblioteca médica por residentes de Medicina General Integral del municipio de Niquero / Use of the medical library by residents of Comprehensive General Medicine specialty in Niquero municipality

RESUMEN Fundamento: Las bibliotecas constituyen una fuente indispensable de recursos instructivos para la sociedad en general. En el campo de las Ciencias Médicas contribuyen a la formación de especialistas en Medicina General Integral. Objetivo: Determinar el uso que hacen de la Biblioteca Médica los residentes de la especialidad de Medicina General Integral del Policlínico "Ernesto Guevara" de Niquero. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo, de corte transversal. El universo de estudio estuvo conformado por los 51 residentes de esta especialidad. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos, empíricos y estadísticos-matemáticos (frecuencia absoluta y porcentaje). Las variables estudiadas fueron: frecuencia de visita, uso de los servicios prestados y las fuentes de información consultadas. Resultados: Predominaron los residentes que visitaban la biblioteca ocasionalmente (56.9 %). El servicio más demandado fue la búsqueda de información (92.2 %). La fuente de información que más se usó fue la consulta de revistas, el 96.1 % de los encuestados. Conclusiones: Teniendo en cuenta los resultados, existen fisuras en la interacción de los usuarios (médicos-residentes) con las oportunidades opciones que ofrece la Biblioteca Médica del municipio de Niquero, lo cual se evidencia en el limitado aprovechamiento que realizan de este servicio los futuros especialistas en Medicina General Integral.

ABSTRACT Background: Libraries are an indispensable source of instructional resources for society in general. In the field of Medical Sciences, they contribute to the training of specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine. Objective: To determine the use that residents of the Comprehensive General Medicine specialty of the `` Ernesto Guevara '' Polyclinic in Niquero make of the Medical Library. Methodology: A cross-sectional, descriptive observational study was carried out. The study universe was made up of the 51 residents of this specialty. Theoretical, empirical and statistical-mathematical methods (absolute frequency and percentage) were used. The variables studied were: frequency of visits, use of the services provided and the sources of information consulted. Results: Residents who visited the library occasionally predominated, 56.9%. The information search was the service mostly known by them, 92.2%. The most requested source of information was the consultation of magazines, 96.1% of those surveyed. Conclusions: According to the results of the study, it is necessary to take full advantage of the strengths offered by the Medical Library in the municipality of Niquero to increase the informational competencies in residents of the Comprehensive General Medicine specialty, for their training with great scientificity.

Papel de la biblioteca médica en el Proceso Docente Educativo durante la COVID-19 / Role of the medical library in the Educational Teaching Process during the COVID-19

RESUMEN La Biblioteca Médica Área VI, perteneciente al Policínico Docente Universiatario Dr. ¨Ramón Claudio Delgado Amestoy¨ es un centro que brinda infomación a los usuarios internos y externos de la demarcación Consejo Popular Castillo- Cen.Es una institución que brinda diferentes servicios como centro especializado de las ciencias biomédicas, dando respuesta además a las necesidades formativas e informativas que emanan de los diferentes problemas de salud que se presentan en la comunidad. En este trabajo se identifican las acciones llevadas a cabo por el personal de la Biblioteca Médica para la reorganización del proceso docente educativo en tiempos de COVID-19.

ABSTRACT The Medical Library of the Academic Polyclinic Dr "Ramón Claudio Delgado Amestoy" Area VI,is a center that provides information to internal and external users of the Castillo- Cen Distrct .It is an institution that provides different services as a specialized center of biomedical sciences, giving a response in addition to the training and information needs from the different health problems that occur in the community. This research identifies the actions carried out by the staff of the Medical Library for the reorganization of the educational teaching process in COVID-19 times.

Con este artículo se quiso realzar las cualidades humanas y el quehacer científico de Mirtha Yris Cedeño Rodríguez, bibliotecaria médica santiaguera, quien durante su etapa laboral se caracterizó por una actitud digna en la atención a numerosos profesionales de diversas especialidades biomédicas, mediante asesorías, docencia, búsquedas bibliográficas, entre otros servicios bibliotecarios, con lo cual contribuyó, desde su modesta tribuna, a la formación de ellos y a la mejoría de la salud pública en Cuba. Actualmente está felizmente jubilada.

With this work we wanted to enhance the human qualities and scientific daily tasks of Mirtha Yris Cedeño Rodríguez, medical librarian from Santiago de Cuba who was characterized by a worthy attitude in the service to many professionals of diverse biomedical specialties during her working years, by means of consultancies, teaching, literature searching, among other librarians services, with which contributed, from her modest tribune, to their training and improvement of the public health in Cuba. At the moment she is happily retired.

Los Centros Municipales de Información como eslabón fundamental del Sistema Nacional de Información en Salud / The Municipal Information Centers as a fundamental link in the National Health Information System

RESUMEN Los Centros Municipales de Información en la provincia de Villa Clara se crearon para fortalecer la estructura del Sistema Nacional de Información en Salud. Su propósito inicial fue garantizar el aseguramiento informativo y científico-técnico que requerían los profesionales y técnicos en la atención primaria de salud. La provincia emprendió de inmediato las acciones técnico-metodológicas necesarias para materializar progresivamente esta tarea; el primer territorio donde se fundó este tipo de institución fue en Caibarién, cuya posterior denominación fue Bibliotecas Municipales de Referencia. El desarrollo de estas se ha caracterizado por la efectiva implementación de los continuos procesos de transformación, la introducción de las nuevas tecnologías, la preparación de sus recursos humanos y la implementación de nuevos programas para el desarrollo de competencias informacionales.

ABSTRACT The Municipal Information Centers in Villa Clara province were created to strengthen the structure of the National Health Information System. Its initial purpose was to guarantee the scientific-technical and information assurance required by professionals and technicians in primary health care. The province immediately undertook the technical and methodological actions necessary to carry out this task progressively; the first territory where this type of institution was founded was in Caibarién, whose later denomination was Municipal Reference Libraries. The development of these libraries has been characterized by the effective implementation of continuous transformation processes, the introduction of new technologies, the preparation of their human resources and the implementation of new programs for the development of informational competencies.

La biblioteca de hospital en Portugal: la visión de los bibliotecarios / Hospital libraries in Portugal: a librarian's view

El objetivo de este trabajo fue identificar la perspectiva profesional de los bibliotecarios y de las bibliotecas de hospital en Portugal y su proyección futura. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, por medio de una investigación no experimental, basada en un método de análisis cualitativo. Para este estudio se utilizó una muestra de 13 profesionales que, de alguna manera, tienen una conexión/conocimiento con el trabajo desarrollado en las bibliotecas hospitalarias. Se buscó disponer de una muestra que cubriera el país de norte a sur para que los resultados pudieran ser representativos de la realidad portuguesa. Los resultados indican que los profesionales que trabajan en las bibliotecas del área de salud en Portugal consideran que no existe una formación profesional específica para este campo con características muy particulares frente a otras realidades bibliotecarias. Además, estiman que los profesionales de la salud que trabajan en bibliotecas deberían estar integrados a los equipos clínicos y de investigación de sus instituciones. Por otra parte, dada la importancia que tiene hoy la medicina basada en la evidencia, se hace necesario el desarrollo de nuevos roles que los bibliotecarios deben asumir. También consideran que corresponde al bibliotecario de la salud asumir los desafíos, invertir en la actualización y adquisición continua de habilidades, fortalecer su papel en las instituciones en las que se inserta, y justificar, de este modo, el valor añadido de la profesión(AU)

The purpose of the study was to identify the professional perspective of hospital libraries and librarians in Portugal and their future projection. A qualitative non-experimental descriptive study was conducted of a sample of 13 professionals related to / acquainted with the work of hospital libraries. The sample was intended to cover the entire country from north to south, so that the results obtained would be representative of Portuguese reality. Results show that professionals from health libraries in Portugal consider that no specific professional training is available for this field, which is characterized by very particular features unique to this library type. They also think that health professionals working at libraries should be incorporated into the clinical and research teams of their institutions. On the other hand, and given the current importance of evidence-based medicine, it is necessary to develop new roles to be undertaken by librarians. They also consider that librarians should accept the challenges, invest time and energy in permanent skill acquisition and update, and strengthen their role at their institutions, thus justifying the added value of the profession(AU)

Estudio de necesidades de información de los usuarios de la biblioteca en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas en Cienfuegos / Study of information needs of library users at the University of Medical Sciences in Cienfuegos

RESUMEN Fundamento: La determinación de las necesidades de información de los usuarios puede influir en los servicios y recursos informativos de la biblioteca universitaria. Objetivo: Aplicar la metodología para el estudio de las necesidades de información, conocimiento y aprendizaje en las bibliotecas y centros de documentación de salud a los usuarios de la biblioteca de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas en Cienfuegos. Metodología: Se utilizaron los métodos descriptivos, analítico-sintético e inductivo deductivo. Resultados: Se describieron los nueve 9 procesos de la metodología: diagnóstico de la organización y de su entorno, identificación y registro de los usuarios, determinación de segmentos y grupos de usuarios, determinación de las prioridades entre los grupos para la gestión del aprendizaje, definición de la política diferencial de la oferta, determinación de necesidades (y disponibilidades) de aprendizaje, diseño de las ofertas, sistematización de la tecnología de gestión del aprendizaje y evaluación de la calidad y de la utilidad de los procesos de la gestión del aprendizaje. Conclusiones: La aplicación de la metodología permitió realizar el estudio y determinar las necesidades de los usuarios de la biblioteca universitaria y dar prioridades en los servicios para una mayor satisfacción.

ABSTRACT Background: The determination of the users´ information needs can influence on the services and information resources of the university library. Objective: To apply the methodology for the study of information, knowledge and learning needs in libraries and health documentation centers to the library users at the University of Medical Sciences in Cienfuegos. Methodology: Descriptive, analytical-synthetic and deductive- inductive methods were used. Results: The nine processes of the methodology were described: diagnosis of the organization and its environment, identification and users registration, determination of segments and users groups, determination of priorities among the groups for learning management, definition of the differential policy of the offer, determination of learning needs (and availability), design of offers, systematization of learning management technology and evaluation of the quality and usefulness of learning management processes. Conclusions: The application of the methodology allowed carrying out the study and determining the needs of the users of the university library and prioritizing the services for greater satisfaction.

Propuesta de actividades de extensión bibliotecaria para promover salud en población de un consultorio del policlínico Previsora de Camagüey / Proposal of library outreach health promotion activities intended for the population of Health Area 7 of Previsora polyclinic in Camagüey

Se realizó una investigación cuali-cuantitativa de tipo investigación-acción participativa con el objetivo de promover salud sobre las enfermedades de transmisión vectorial en la población perteneciente al consultorio No. 7 del médico de la familia, correspondiente al área de salud del policlínico Previsora, en Camagüey, en el periodo comprendido entre marzo y septiembre del año 2017. El universo se constituyó por 1 635 personas y se tomó una muestra de 250 de ellas a través de un muestreo aleatorio simple. El estudio consistió en la aplicación de instrumentos como la encuesta que se realizó a la población objeto de estudio y la observación. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que existe desconocimiento en cuanto a cuáles son todas las enfermedades de transmisión vectorial que se manifiestan y sus vías de adquisición. Al concluir el diagnóstico, se confeccionó el sistema de actividades de extensión bibliotecaria. Los especialistas que se consultaron para su valoración destacaron la factibilidad de la propuesta y su pertinencia. Se recomienda implementar las actividades de extensión bibliotecaria propuestas y extender la experiencia a otras unidades de salud de la provincia(AU)

A qualitative-quantitative participatory action study was conducted from March to September 2017 to promote awareness of vector-borne diseases in the population of Health Area 7 of Previsora polyclinic in Camagüey. The study universe was composed of 1 635 people, from whom a sample of 250 was selected by simple random sampling. Analysis was based on the application of tools such as a survey applied to the study population and observation. Results show that there is ignorance about which vector-borne diseases occur in the area and their routes of transmission. Completion of the diagnostic stage was followed by the development of a library outreach system of activities. The specialists consulted for its validation highlighted the feasibility and relevance of the proposal. It is recommended to implement the library outreach activities proposed and extend the initiative to other health units in the province(AU)

Experiencias en la ejecución de un curso virtual para bibliotecarios de ciencias médicas en Cienfuegos / Experiences in the execution of a virtual course for librarians of medical sciences in Cienfuegos

Fundamento: la superación posgraduada beneficia la adquisición, ampliación y perfeccionamiento continuo de los conocimientos y habilidades básicas y especializadas requeridas para un mejor desempeño de lo(a)s bibliotecario(a)s de las ciencias médicas. Objetivo: expresar las experiencias de la ejecución del curso "Estudio de Necesidades de Información" impartido desde la universidad virtual de salud utilizando la plataforma Moodle, y dirigido a los bibliotecarios de las ciencias médicas. Métodos: se realizó una investigación descriptiva durante los meses de enero a marzo del 2014 en el Centro Provincial de Información de Ciencias Médicas de Cienfuegos; participaron 24 bibliotecarios de la red de salud en la provincia. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos: histórico-lógico, analítico-sintético e inductivo-deductivo y empíricos: la encuesta en forma de cuestionario a los bibliotecarios, y el estadístico-matemático para el procesamiento de los datos obtenidos. Resultados: la buena organización y duración del curso, el apropiado nivel de los contenidos, la deficiente utilización de las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones, el aceptable rigor evaluativo y la utilidad de los contenidos impartidos fueron algunos de los resultados fundamentales constatados. Conclusiones: la participación en este curso permitió a lo(a)s bibliotecario(a)s fortalecer sus conocimientos sobre la tipología de las bibliotecas y los usuarios; ellos comenzaron a aplicar, de forma correcta y estructurada, los nueve procesos de la metodología "Amiga" para la realización del estudio de necesidades de información.

Background: postgraduate upgrading benefits the acquisition, expansion and continuous improvement of the basic and specialized knowledge and skills required for a better performance of the librarians of medical sciences. Objective: to express the experiences of the implementation of the course "Study of Information Needs" given from the health virtual university using the Moodle platform, and intended for librarians of the medical sciences. Methods: a descriptive investigation was carried out from January to March 2014 in the Provincial Information Center of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos; 24 librarians of the health network in the province participated. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive and empirical ones: the survey in the form of a questionnaire to the librarians, and the mathematical-statistical for data obtaining and processing. Results: the good organization and duration of the course, the appropriate level of contents, the deficient use of information and communication technologies, the acceptable evaluative rigor and the usefulness of the contents taught were some of the fundamental results found. Conclusions: participation in this course allowed the librarian to strengthen their knowledge about the typology of libraries and users; they began to apply in a correct and structured way, the nine processes of the "Amiga" methodology for carrying out the study of information needs.

Las bases de datos se derivan de la necesidad de disponer de información sintetizada y así minimizar los tiempos del acceso a datos de interés temáticos. En el ámbito de la medicina, la búsqueda y la recuperación de material documental en bases de datos de información médica resulta un ejercicio complejo que lleva tiempo, a causa de la saturación en la difusión de la producción científica. En Cuba son escasas las iniciativas en tipo de recursos que permitan a los profesionales de la salud obtener una información sobre figuras históricas que en su capacidad intelectual manifestaron criterios y reflexiones sobre la medicina y la salud, como José Martí Pérez y Fidel Castro Ruz. Es objetivo del presente artículo exponer las fases de creación en la Biblioteca Médica Nacional de la base de datos MaFiMed, que recopila el pensamiento de Martí y de Fidel referido a las temáticas médicas y de la salud(AU)

Databases have derived from the need for available synthesized information, thus minimizing the time spent accessing theme data of interest. In the framework of medicine, the search and retrieval of document material from medical information databases is both complex and time-consuming, due to the saturation in the dissemination of scientific production. Few initiatives have been put forth in Cuba concerning resource types enabling health professionals to obtain information about intellectually outstanding historical figures who have stated criteria and reflections about medicine and health, as is the case with José Martí Pérez and Fidel Castro Ruz. The purpose of the present paper is to describe the stages in the development of the MaFiMed database at the National Medical Library. Apuntes históricos culturales de la extensión bibliotecaria en las bibliotecas de salud / Historical-cultural notes on library extensions in health libraries

RESUMEN El Servicio de Extensión Bibliotecaria es el medio adecuado que tiene la biblioteca para expandirse hacia la comunidad, de esa forma permite que aquellos usuarios que no la visitan hagan uso de sus servicios y documentos. Sin embargo, pocos conocen su historia y evolución a través del tiempo. Se muestra una revisión bibliográfica y el estado actual de este servicio. Los elementos incluidos en esta recolección abarcan publicaciones periódicas, sitios web, revistas electrónicas, publicados entre el siglo XVIII y el presente. El documento pretende brindar una aproximación histórica al servicio de extensión bibliotecaria en las bibliotecas.

ABSTRACT The Library Extension Service is the appropriate method a library has to expand into the community in a way that users who don't visit it use its services and documents. However, just a few people know its history and development through time. A bibliographic review is shown along with the current state of this service. The elements included in it cover regular publications, web sites and electronic journals published from the XVIII century to the present time. The paper expects to provide a historical approach to the library extension service in libraries.

Actividad de la Asociación Cubana de Bibliotecarios en la red de bibliotecas médicas de Sancti Spíritus / Activity of the Cuban Association of Librarians in the network of medical libraries of Sancti Spiritus

La Asociación Cubana de Bibliotecarios es una organización no gubernamental de afiliación voluntaria. Una parte de los bibliotecarios de Ciencias Médicas de la provincia de Sancti Spíritus han integrado esta organización desde la fundación de la delegación de base en el año 2004. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar las principales actividades desarrolladas por la Asociación en la red de bibliotecas médicas de Sancti Spíritus en el período 2004-2017, teniendo en cuenta las dimensiones de la capacitación, la investigación y la publicación en que han participado los afiliados. Para la obtención de datos se realizó un análisis de los principales documentos de trabajo de la Asociación. Los resultados evidencian un crecimiento de la afiliación durante los trece años analizados. El ejecutivo se ha mantenido estable, lo que ha permitido una disciplina organizativa y un desarrollo sostenido de actividades de capacitación. Aunque aún son limitadas las actividades investigativas y de publicación, también se observa una participación sostenida en eventos y jornadas científicas(AU)

The Cuban Association of Librarians is a non-governmental organization of voluntary affiliation. A number of medical sciences librarians from the province of Sancti Spiritus have been members of this organization ever since its base delegation was founded in the year 2004. The purpose of the study is to present the main activities conducted by the Association in the network of medical sciences of Sancti Spiritus in the period 2004-2017, with reference to the areas of training, research and publication in which affiliates have participated. Data were obtained via document analysis of the main work documents of the Association. Results show an increase in membership throughout the thirteen years analyzed. One executive has remained stable, which has favored both organizational discipline and the sustained development of training activities. Though research and publication activities are still limited, sustained participation is observed in scientific conferences and meetings(AU)

Curso virtual para la superación posgraduada de los bibliotecarios de ciencias médicas en Cienfuegos / Virtual course for the postgraduate upgrading of medical sciences librarians in Cienfuegos

Fundamento: la superación posgraduada es una necesidad permanente de los bibliotecarios de las ciencias médicas. Objetivo: diseñar un curso de capacitación utilizando la plataforma Moodle para la superación de los bibliotecarios de la red de salud en Cienfuegos. Métodos: se realizó una investigación de desarrollo entre octubre y diciembre de 2013 en el Centro Provincial de Información de Ciencias Médicas en Cienfuegos. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos: histórico-lógico, analítico-sintético e inductivo-deductivo; y empíricos: la encuesta en forma de cuestionario a los bibliotecarios, y el estadístico-matemático para el procesamiento de los datos obtenidos. Resultados: fueron diagnosticadas las necesidades de capacitación de los bibliotecarios, entre ellas: sus limitaciones para desarrollar el aprendizaje en la modalidad educación a distancia, no habían interactuado con la plataforma Moodle, tenían carencias formativas en cuanto a las diferentes metodologías para la realización de estudios de usuarios, y dificultades lectoras en detrimento de la comprensión del texto básico, por lo que se diseñó un curso de posgrado, el cual fue valorado por criterio de especialistas. Conclusiones: el curso fue diseñado en la plataforma Moodle, permite contar con una tecnología para la interpretación y aprendizaje de la metodología para el estudio de las necesidades de información de los usuarios. Los especialistas lo valoraron como pertinente y con adecuada estructura metodológica en cuanto a estructura y contenido.

Background: postgraduate upgrading is a permanent need of the medical sciences librarians. Objective: to design a training course using the Moodle platform for the upgrading of the health branch librarians in Cienfuegos. Methods: a developmental research was carried out from October to December 2013 at Cienfuegos Province Medical Sciences Information Center. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive; And empirical ones: the survey in questionnaire form to librarians, and the statistical-mathematical for data processing. Results: the training needs of librarians were diagnosed, including: their limitations to develop learning in the distance learning modality, they had not interacted with the Moodle platform, they had formative deficiencies regarding the different methodologies for conducting studies of users, and reading difficulties hampering the understanding of the basic text, reasons why a postgraduate course was designed, that was valued by specialists' criteria. Conclusions: the course was designed in the Moodle platform; it allows having a technology for the interpretation and learning of the methodology for the study of the information needs of the users. The specialists valued it as pertinent and with adequate methodological structure in terms of conformation and content.

Las competencias informacionales de bibliotecarios de las Ciencias Médicas para la diseminación selectiva de la información. Sancti Spiritus / The informational competitions of librarians of the Medical Sciences for the selective dissemination of the information. Sancti Spiritus

Fundamento: La consulta y referencia es un servicio que se presta en las bibliotecas y dentro de sus bondades está la diseminación selectiva de la información que se encarga de mantener actualizado a los profesionales de las Ciencias Médicas la que suministra periódicamente las referencias de los documentos que corresponden con sus intereses cognoscitivos. Objetivo: Diagnosticar las competencias informacionales que tienen los bibliotecarios de las ciencias médicas para la diseminación selectiva de la información en la provincia de Sancti Spíritus. Metodología: Se realizó una investigación transversal en el periodo de enero a noviembre de 2014 en la red de bibliotecas médicas; con una muestra compuesta por 57 bibliotecarios, se eligió mediante un muestreo estratificado. Se recogió información sobre el nivel profesional de los bibliotecarios, la implementación del servicio de diseminación selectiva de la información y la utilidad del mismo, además de aquella relativa a los documentos utilizados por estos profesionales para enviar la información, así como sobre las bases de datos bibliográficas utilizadas y medios que empleaban para obtener los datos de la tarjeta control de usuario y bases de datos bibliográficas. Los datos fueron procesados mediante el paquete estadístico profesional SPSS (versión 15.0.1, SPSS Inc, Chicago, IL, USA). Resultados: Se observaron carencias de competencias informacionales, fundamentalmente, técnicas y metodológicas, para desarrollar el servicio de diseminación selectiva de la información, por lo que al buscar y evaluar la información que entregan a los usuarios del servicio es insuficiente no en cantidad sino en calidad. Conclusiones: Los bibliotecarios de las Ciencias Médicas de la provincia de Sancti Spíritus no tienen suficientes competencias informacionales para ofrecer el servicio de diseminación selectiva de la información y refieren la necesidad de cursos de superación.

Background: The consultation and reference is a service that is lent in the libraries and the selective dissemination of the information that takes charge of maintaining is inside its kindness up-to-date to the professionals of the Medical Sciences that gives the references of the documents that correspond with its cognitive interests periodically Objective: To diagnose the informational competitions that the librarians of the medical sciences for the selective dissemination of the information in the county of Sancti Spíritus Methodology: It was carried out a traverse investigation in the period from January to November, 2014 in the net of medical libraries; with a sample composed by 57 librarians, it was chosen by means of a stratified sampling. Information was picked up about the professional profile of the librarians, the implementation of the service of selective dissemination of the information and the utility of it, besides that relative to the documents used by these professionals to send the information, as well as on the used bibliographical databases and means that were used to obtain the data of the card user control and bibliographical databases. The data were processed by means of the professional statistical package SPSS (version 15.0.1, SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USES) Results: Lacks of informational competitions were observed, fundamentally, technical and methodological, to develop the service of selective dissemination of the information, for what is insufficient when looking for and to evaluate the information that is given to the users of the service not in quantity but in quality Conclusions: Librarians of the Medical Sciences of the county of Sancti Spíritus doesn't have enough informational competitions to offer the service of selective dissemination of the information and they refer the necessity of overcoming courses.

Fundamento: La memoria histórica de los Centros Provinciales de Información favorece la comprensión del presente y la proyección del futuro del Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Médicas en Cuba. Objetivo: Determinar el papel que históricamente ha desempeñado el Centro Provincial de Ciencias Médicas de Sancti Spíritus en el desarrollo del sistema de salud entre 1980 y 2012 Metodología: Se empleó la perspectiva epistemológica cualitativa, apoyada en el método histórico-lógico, el análisis documental y la entrevista en profundidad. Conclusiones: La exploración aporta nuevos conocimientos sobre las características que distinguen al Centro Provincial de Información: Su alcance, limitaciones, inserción en los principales problemas de salud en el territorio y sus manifestaciones concretas. Enriquece los estudios regionales sobre el fenómeno informacional y su relación con los procesos asistenciales, educacionales y científicos del sistema de salud.

Background: The historical memory of the Provincial Centers of Information favors the understanding of the present and the projection of the future of the National System of Medical Libraries in Cuba. Objective: To determine the role that historically has carried out the Provincial Center of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spíritus in the development of the system of health from 1980 and 2012. Methodology: The epistemological perspective qualitative was used, supported in the historical-logical method, the documental analysis and the interview in depth. Conclusions: The exploration contributes new knowledge on the characteristics that distinguish to the Provincial Center of Information: their reach, limitations, insert in the main problems of health in the territory and their concrete manifestations. It enriches the regional studies on the informational phenomenon and their relationship with the assistance, educational and scientific processes of the system of health.

Publicación científica: una mirada crítica al quehacer de la red de bibliotecas médicas de Santiago de Cuba / Scientific publishing: a critical look at the work of the medical library network in Santiago de Cuba i: en

Se realizó una investigación observacional, descriptiva y transversal con el propósito de conocer el comportamiento de la publicación científica de los bibliotecarios de la salud en la provincia de Santiago de Cuba, desde enero de 1998 hasta agosto de 2013, para lo cual se efectuó una revisión exhaustiva de los artículos de su autoría en la revista MEDISAN y a través de los buscadores de Internet y de las revistas médicas cubanas. Los resultados revelaron que un número muy reducido de bibliotecarios publicaba como autores principales o coautores, a pesar de que existían problemas científicos identificados en sus unidades, susceptibles de ser investigados; contaban en sus bibliotecas con recursos tecnológicos y acceso a información actualizada; poseían calificación profesional y disponían en el territorio de la revista MEDISAN -- publicación de mayor producción científica en el país en materia de salud. -- Lo obtenido en este estudio pudiera estar relacionado con el poco desarrollo de la competencia investigativa, lo que evidencia la necesidad de ejecutar acciones que permitan alcanzarla, como corresponde a los bibliotecarios del siglo XXI.

An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with the purpose of knowing the state of the scientific publishing of health librarians in Santiago de Cuba province, from January 1998 to August 2013; thereby an exhaustive review of their articles in the journal MEDISAN, through Internet search engines and Cuban medical journals was conducted. The results revealed that a very small number of librarians had published as main authors or co-authors, although there were scientific problems identified in their units, which required to be studied; they had technology resources and access to current information in their libraries; they were professionally trained and could use the journal MEDISAN -- publication of the greatest scientific production in health in the country. -- The results of this study could be related to the little research competence, demonstrating the need to take actions to achieve such competence, as befits the librarians of the 21st century.
