ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the curative effect of auditory integration training (AIT) on autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in children with abnormal brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP).Methods 56 cases of ASD patients with abnormal BAEP were treated with AIT (aged 2-6 years).BAEP will be reviewed after each course of treatments until the test results were back to normal or had no obvious changes.Children' s core symptoms were evaluated by using autism behavior checklist (ABC) and the childhood autism rating scale (CARS) before and after treatments.Results 56 children accepted (1.95±0.92) courses of AIT.Compared with the data before AIT,CARS scores ((36.32± 3.54),(34.11 ± 3.12)),scores of the sensory factor((5.65±4.61),(4.28±4.11)) and the stereotypes factor of ABC were decreased significantly(P<0.05).After treatments,BAEP of 29 cases (51.79%) went back to normal levels.The bilateral wave incubation periods on left side (Ⅰ:(1.81 ± 0.17) ms,(1.71 ± 0.12) ms,Ⅲ:(4.14 ± 0.18) ms,(4.07 ±0.17)ms,V:(6.09±0.23)ms,(5.97±0.22) ms)and right side (Ⅰ:(1.79±0.17) ms,(1.74±0.13) ms,Ⅲ:(4.15±0.16) ms,(4.07±0.16) ms,V:(6.06±0.23) ms,(5.99±0.26) ms) were significantly shortened (P< 0.05).Conclusion AIT can improve the functional handicap of auditory pathway in brainstem of ASD children,and the core symptoms of ASD.

ABSTRACT

As a challenging complication of neonatal jaundice, bilirubin encephalopathy can be subdivided into acute and chronic isoforms with the latter also named kernicterus. Its mechanism remains unclear. Its main sequelaes lie in auditory deficiency and dyskinesis. Brain stem auditory evoked potentials test is highly valued in the early diagnosis of kernicterus and the screening of auditory deficiency. MRI manifests symmetrical Tl-weighted signals on pallidum in acute phase and T2-weighted signals in chronic phase. The practical value of magnetic resonance spectrum yet demands further exploration.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the features of event-related potentials (ERP) P300, auditory evoked potential(AEP) and brainstem auditory evoked potential(BAEP) in senile depression patients and the dynamic chan-ges before and after treatment of sertruline. Methods P300, AEP and BAEP were recorded in 31 senile depression patients using Chinese WOND 2000C Instrument, and a comparison between the patients and 33 normal controls in terms of these evoked potentials were made. Some of the depression patients treated with oral intake of sertraline were followed electophysiologically after 12 months of treatment. Results Compared with normal controls, senile depres-sion patients showed delay of latency of P300-P3 and BAEP-Ⅲ, decreased amplitude of P300-P3, AEP-P2 and BA-EP-Ⅲ(P <0.05 or 0.01). The 12-month follow-up measures of ERP showed significant improvement in terms of la-tency and amplitude of P3/P300,AEP-P2 and BAEP-Ⅲ after treatment of sertraline. Conclusion Senile depres-sion patients showed abnormality on several ERP indexes (such as P3/P300, AEP-P2 and BAEP-Ⅲ), and these in-dexes might provide important evidences to monitor the effect of medicine.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the therapeutic role of hyperbaric oxygen(HBO) on neonatal hearing impairment induced by hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE),by observing the brain stem auditory evoked potential(BAEP) changes of newborn infants with HIE.Methods One hundred and six cases of HIE in newborn infants(in which 82 cases were mild and 24 cases were severe) treated with HBO and conventional therapy were chosen as HBO treatment group,while other 42 cases of HIE in newborn infants(in which 38 cases were mild and 4 cases were severe) treated with conventional therapy only were served as control group.BAEP was measured at the 3rd to 7th day on patients before treatment and 42 days after birth with or without HBO therapy respectively,and the differences of BAEP changes were compared between the both groups.Results 1.In control group,the rate of abnormality was 47.4% and 31.6%,respectively before and after therapy in mild HIE cases(P=0.240),and 75.0%,50.0% in the moderate-severe HIE cases(P=0.462).2.In HBO group,the abnormal rate was 45.1% and 25.6%,respectively in mild HIE cases before and after therapy,while 75.0% and 41.7% in moderate-severe HIE cases(Pa=0.014,0.039).3.There was obvious difference between control group and HBO group in mild HIE cases(P=0.013),while there was no significant change between the 2 groups in moderate-severe HIE cases(P=0.717).Conclusions Treatment with HBO combined with conventional therapy may improve the abnormal rate of BAEP in patients with HIE according to the present test,especially in mild HIE cases,thus earlier HBO therapy may be used to mitigate hearing impairment and improve prognosis induced by the disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the curative effect and safety of CTLA-4Ig transgene for experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Methods The adenovirus loaded CTLA-4Ig was injected into Wistar rat EAE models through the lateral cerebral ventricle. The clinical symptomatic and electrophysiological changes were observed to judge the efficiency of CTLA-4Ig. Results After injection of AdCTLA-4Ig into the lateral cerebral ventricle of Wistar rat EAE models, the time of EAE onset was delayed and the incidence rate was significantly reduced. And the transductive function tested by brain-stem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) and somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) was obviously improved. Conclusion CTLA-4Ig is effective in managing EAE.

@#ObjectiveTo study the value of brain stem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) in evaluating the function of brainstem and judging the prognosis in patients with severe traumatic brain injury in vegetative state. Methods30 cases with severe traumatic brain injury in vegetative state were examined by BAEP and assessed with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) before comprehensive rehabilitation treatment and 1 month later. The patients were re-examined by BAEP and assessed with Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) after 6-month in follow-up. The relationship between BAEP grade and GCS or GOS was analyzed. The variety of BAEP in regaining consciousness was also analyzed.Results The abnormal rate of BAEP was 93.3% (28/30 cases) before rehabilitation treatment while it was 86.7% (26/30 cases) after 1 month. The higher the BAEP grade was, the poorer the prognosis was. There were 12 patients who regained consciousness.The main variety in these patients was the appearance of wave Ⅴ, as well as the improvement of each wave' shape and the shortening of peak latent period. ConclusionsBAEP can evaluate the function of brain stem in patients with severe traumatic brain injury in vegetative state and provide evidences for prognosis. The appearance of wave Ⅴ prompts the recovery of function of brain stem as an index of cerebral electrophysiology in improvement of consciousness.

ABSTRACT

Eight patients with severe head injury comatous for long duration have been investigated with serial computed Tomography and Brain Stem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEP). the results showed that all patients had abnormal CT and BAEP findings andfurther varied in the course of the disease. The finding correlated very well with the clinical course of events and is useful in the assessment of the underlying pathology and the prediction of the prognosis of head injury.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between the changes of cytosine,thymine,guanine(CTG)repeat numbers and brain stem BAEP,SEP and VEP in patients with myotonic dystrophy(DM) and their family members.Methods The repeat numbers of CTG,BAEP, SEP and VEP of DM gene were determined by PCR amplification and DNA hybridization in 5 patients with DM and 16 members from 3 families.Results The repeat numbers of CTG in 10 normal persons were 30,BAEP,SEP and VEP were normal.The repeat numbers of CTG in 5 patients with DM were over 85,two cases of them were over 1605,they were significantly higher than the normal persons.4 cases in 16 family members were normal,CTG repeat numbers of 12 cases were over normal genes,CTG repeat numbers were related to clinical symptom, BAEP,SEP and VEP.Conclusion The gene diagnosis of DM was found to be consistent with its clinical symptom,the changes of BAEP,SEP and VEP.
