ABSTRACT

Objective To study the correlation between pterygium area and the clinical manifestation and signs of primary pterygium obtained from OCULUS Keratograph. Methods A prospective case observation study was performed.Thirty-nine (55 eyes) primary pterygium patients were selected from June to September 2016 in Zhongshan People's Hospital. The area of the pterygium invaded cornea and duration of pterygium were recorded. The ocular surface condition was detected by corneal fluorescein staining. The break up time of tear film (BUT) and the gland function score were measured with OCULUS Keratograph. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Zhongshan People's Hospital (2015 [13]).All operations followed the Helsinki Declaration and all patients signed informed consent forms. Results The areas of pterygium invaded cornea was 2-20 mm2,the mean size was 5 (3,10) mm2;the duration of pterygium was 3-8 years, the mean duration was 5 (4,6)years;the BUT was 2.1-15.0 seconds, the mean BUT was (6.3±3.0) seconds. The mean gland function score was 2 (1,3).The area of pterygium was not significantly correlated with the duration of pteryguim (r =0.197,P =0.148),while it was negatively correlated with BUT (r=-0.711,P<0.001) and positively correlated with the tarsal gland score (r =0.554,P<0.001).What's more,82% (45/55 eyes) of the patients' tear film rupture appeared firstly near pterygium's head. Conclusion OCULUS Keratograph can directly evaluate the ocular surface condition of pterygium patients in a non-contact and non-invasive method.Assessing the ocular surface damage by observing the area of pterygium invaded cornea may provide a prospective treatment for pterygium patients.

Objective To study the correlation between pterygium area and the clinical manifestation and signs of primary pterygium obtained from OCULUS Keratograph. Methods A prospective case observation study was performed. Thirty.nine ( 55 eyes ) primary pterygium patients were selected from June to September 2016 in Zhongshan People's Hospital. The area of the pterygium invaded cornea and duration of pterygium were recorded. The ocular surface condition was detected by corneal fluorescein staining. The break up time of tear film ( BUT) and the gland function score were measured with OCULUS Keratograph. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Zhongshan People's Hospital ( 2015 [ 13 ] ) . All operations followed the Helsinki Declaration and all patients signed informed consent forms. Results The areas of pterygium invaded cornea was 2-20 mm2,the mean size was 5(3, 10)mm2;the duration of pterygium was 3-8 years, the mean duration was 5(4,6)years;the BUT was 2. 1-15. 0 seconds, the mean BUT was (6. 3±3. 0) seconds. The mean gland function score was 2(1,3). The area of pterygium was not significantly correlated with the duration of pteryguim (r=0.197,P=0.148),while it was negatively correlated with BUT (r=-0. 711, P<0. 001 ) and positively correlated with the tarsal gland score (r=0. 554,P<0. 001). What's more,82% (45/55 eyes) of the patients' tear film rupture appeared firstly near pterygium's head. Conclusion OCULUS Keratograph can directly evaluate the ocular surface condition of pterygium patients in a non. contact and non.invasive method. Assessing the ocular surface damage by observing the area of pterygium invaded cornea may provide a prospective treatment for pterygium patients.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To observe the clinical efficacy of Xiaoyao Powder combined with tobramycin dexamethasone in treating dry eye syndrome caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD). <p>METHODS: Totally 134 eyes of 106 dry eye patients with MGD in the First People's Hospital of Wolong District, Nanyang City from November 2015 to November 2017. They were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, each with 53 cases(67 eyes). The two groups were all given hot compress massage, and other basic treatment. The control group was given tobramycin dexamethasone treatment, while the observation group was treated with Xiaoyao Powder on the basis of the control group. The clinical effect of two groups of patients, the symptoms of dry eye, corneal fluorescence staining(FL), the scale of quality of life for diseases with visual impairment(SQOL DVI), tear film break-up time(BUT)and the Schirmer test(SⅠT)were observed. <p>RESULTS: After treatment, the total effective rate of treatment in the observation group(86.6%)was significantly higher than that of the control group(67.2%). The symptoms of dry eye, corneal FL and SQOL DVI scores were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the values of BUT and SⅠT were significantly higher than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.01). During the treatment period, the incidence of intraocular pressure elevation in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.05). <p>CONCLUSION: The Xiaoyao Powder combined with tobramycin dexamethasone in the treatment of MGD dry eye can significantly improve the curative effect and improve the prognosis of the patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective This study was to observe the meibomian gland scores, the miss rate of meibomian,break-up time of tear film (BUT) changes after long-term wearing orthokeratolog, and to evaluate orthokeratolog impact on meibomian gland function and the stability of the tear film. Methods A prospective case-controlled study was performed.Fifty patients 98 eyes with myopia were enrolled.According to the myopia correction mode, the patients were divided into control group (24 cases) and experimental group (overnight orthokeratolog treatment) group (26 cases). All subjects were underwent the examinations sequentially as follows:evaluation of ocular surface disease symptoms using the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI),lid margin and ocular surface examination by slit lamp microscrope, infrared meibomian photography and BUT.All measurements were repeated at 3 months,6 months,24-months follow-up visit. All patients signed informed consent before examination. Results After wearing orthok-contact lens for 24 months, the meibomian gland score was 4.54±1.10 and 2.29±0.75 in the experimental group and control group, respectively, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The BUT was (6.35 ± 1.52) s 24 months after wearing orthokeratolog, which was less than (9.38 ± 1.88) s in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P< 0.05).The miss rate of meibomian gland was 24.39 ± 5.54 and 22.81 ± 5.23 in the experimental group and control group, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference among the the miss rate of meibomian gland between groups and within groups (all at P>0.05).Conclusions Long-term wearing orthokeratolog has negetive effects on meibomian gland function and the stability of the tear film.
