ABSTRACT

Two simple, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of ticlabendazole in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation. These methods were based on the formation of ion-pair association complex (1:1) with bromocresol purple (BCP) and bromophenol blue (BPB). The coloured products were extracted into chloroform and measured spectrophotometrically at 420 nm. Linearity ranges were 20 – 100 μg/ml for BCP and 10 – 100 μg/ml for BPB, the mean percentage recoveries were 99.61±1.152% and 99.60±0.986% for BCP and BPB respectively. Statistical comparison between the results obtained by these methods and the manufacturer’s method was done, and no significance difference was obtained.

ABSTRACT

Butachlor, a selective systemic herbicide, was isolated, analyzed and detected in viscera obtained from medi-colegal autopsy. Butachlor was extracted by using solvent extraction methods and then identified by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). For chromatographic separation, various solvent systems were used. Bromophenol blue was used as chromogenic reagent on developed TLC plates which successfully increased the sensitivity without dispensing with the simplicity of the method. For the study, a total of 15 solvent systems in different ratios were chosen. Of these, the best two solvent systems, namely, Benzene:Diethyl ether (8.5:1.5) and Hexane: Acetone (9:1) were chosen for statistical analysis, which included the calculation of mean Rf value and value of standard deviation and coefficient of variance.

ABSTRACT

The content of total alkaloid in the seed of Peganum harmala L. was determined by bro-mophenol blue colorimetry. It could be considered that this is a specific, quick and simple method for thedetermination of total alkaloid in the seed of P. harmala.
