The Caring Behavior Checklist was used to observe nurses' nursing care behavior, and the Client Perception of Caring Scale was used to investigate patients' perception of Caring.@*Results@#A total of 132 clinical nurses were observed and 132 patients were investigated. The score of verbal caring behavior was (3.36±1.44) points (out of a possible 7 points), and the score of non-verbal caring behavior was (2.33±1.07) points (out of a possible 5 points). The overall score of Caring Behavior Checklist was (5.70±2.03) points (out of a possible 12 points). ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the evaluation of care behaviors among inpatients and nurses, in order to know the implementation of caring behavior from different perspectives, and to provide evidence for better humanistic care in hospitals. Methods The nurses' humanistic practice ability scale and the caring behavior scale were used to investigate 160 nurses and inpatients respectively in The Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University. Results The total score of nurses' self rating for caring behavior was (4.15 ± 0.58) points, while the score of self-management ability was lowest, which was (3.84 ± 0.67) points;and the total score of nurses' caring behaviors was (3.49 ± 0.92) points, while the lowest scoring dimensions were respect and connection (3.42 ± 0.95) points. Nurses and patients both feel better at basic care (such as meeting basic needs, providing good environment), psychological care (such as giving support and) and professional care (such as health education), but both of them think that nurses did not do good enough in the provision of high-level emotional needs (such as diversified care, spiritual sustenance)and participation in nursing programmes. Conclusions The evaluation of nursing caring behavior is in the middle and upper level, which shown that the nurses have certain humanistic care and practical ability in clinical practice, and have been recognized by patients, but there is still a lot of room for improvement, and suggested that nursing administrators should give nurses enough respect and consideration while considering patients.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine whether there are differences between nurses of hospitalized patients and their relatives, regarding the perception they have of what care behaviors are important. Material and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study whose sample, stratified by service, consisted of 54 nurses and 96 relatives of a general hospital. To measure the response variable, the Caring Assessment Instrument (Care- Q) by Patricia Larson was used, which consists of 50 questions divided into 6 sub-scales that measure the behavior of the nursing professional in the delivery of care: a) it is accessible, b) explains and facilitates, c) comforts, d) anticipates, e) maintains a relationship of trust and f) monitors and follows up. Results: The prioritization of the first behav ior, represented by the subscale "monitors and follows-up", coincides in both groups. Regarding the importance assigned to the rest of the care behaviors and their subscales, differences are observed in both groups. Conclu sion: The prioritization of care categories and behaviors between nurses and patients' relatives are different and, as a first choice, it focuses on technical type behavior rather than the development of social skills.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the current status and influencing factors of caring behaviors for oncology specialized nurses. Methods Using general information questionnaire and Caring Behaviors Inventory (CBI) to investigate oncology specialized nurses from the city of Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Tianjin. Results The total score of self-assessment CBI in oncology specialized nurses was relatively high (82.42±10.42), the scores of sub-scales from high to low in the order were assurance, respectful, knowledge and skill, and connectedness. Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that degree of family care, whether the one-child and working years were influencing factors of caring behavior of oncology specialized nurses (t=11.995, 3.061, 2.608, P<0.01). Conclusions Nursing managers should put forward humanism-oriented theory into all parts of nursing work on the basis of scientific allocation of human resources, establish integrative care training model combing the school and hospital in order to improve caring behaviors of nurses.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the correlation between caring behavior and critical thinking of nursing students in clinical practice. Methods Totally 203 nursing students in clinical practice were investigated with Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory- Chinese Version (CTDI- CV) and Caring Behavior Scale (CBS). Results The structural model obtained a good fit. Critical thinking and caring behavior were positively correlated with each other(β=0.46,P<0.01). Conclusions Nursing students′caring behavior could improve their critical thinking. With the cultivation of critical thinking of nursing students, nursing educators should pay attention to improving their caring behavior.

ABSTRACT

Nurse's caring behaviors are essential to help patients cope with their health problems. The purpose of this study was to investigate the Importance of nurse's oaring behaviors as perceived by staff nurses and patients. The subjects were 295 staff nurses and 340 patients from five medical centers in Taegu. Data collection was done from Dec. 10, 1997 to Jan. 31, 1998. The tool for this study was a 7 point Likert type scale with 27 caring behaviors developed by Lee(1996). Cronbach alpha of the tool was .9701 in staff nurses and .9618 in patients. Data were analyzed with SAS using t-test, ANOVA and Spearman rank correlation program. The results are as follows: 1. The a verage score of perceived importance of nurse's caring behaviors for the 27 items was 5.65 in staff nurses and 4.97 in patients. 2. The most important caring behaviors perceived by the nurses was 'Nurse gives painless and cautious injection and treatment for patients 'and for the patients, 'Nurse gives hygienic treatment and nursing care'. 3. The caring behavior which showed a significant difference between the ranks of perceived importance by staff nurses and patients was 'to treat the patient with tenderness and friendship'. 4. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient between the ranks of importance perceived by staff nurses and patients was 0.8302. With the results of this study, the staff nurses could be recognized to have much enthusiasm and passion about caring. It is suggested that nurses let the public know about the nurses' caring roles. In the future, research to investigate the actual practice of nurses' caring behavior is necessary.
