ABSTRACT

The bone marrow hematopoietic niche is the place where hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors survive. It is not only related to the hematopoiesis function, but also its steady-state disorders and abnormalities can induce a variety of hematologic diseases, which will even be adapted by malignant cells such as leukemia stem cells, so as to cause seriously poor prognosis. Therefore, it is of great significance to the regulation and construction of the bone marrow niche. In this review, we outline the composition, physiological and pathological basis of bone marrow hematopoietic niche, from the regulation of Chinese materia medica components and TCM formula to graphically analyze the target and effect of drug efficacy. Then, combined with the clinical practice for integrating and summarizing decentralized research, aiming to provide new directions and perspectives for the TCM research and treatment of hematologic diseases.

ABSTRACT

"Chinese materia medica component" is one of the core concepts involved in the study of component-based Chinese medicine. The difference and connection among concepts of "Chinese materia medica component", "active ingredients", "active parts", and "extracts" are the first issue to be solved in the study of component-based Chinese medicine. According to the literature about Chinese materia medica components from 1999 to 2017, we try to define its concept. Chinese materia medica component is the basic unit of component compatibility, which comes from the effective part (s), and it is a group of components with high homogeneity or a certain proportion of the composition. Its chemical composition can be identified, and the proportion of each component is relatively fixed, and its activity is generally characterized and repeatable. Chinese materia medica components, active ingredients, effective parts, and extracts are all different forms of describing the efficacy substances of traditional Chinese medicines. The difference and connection between Chinese materia medica components and related concepts were also discussed. Hence, we hope that the results of this study may provide a reference for the researchers and experts in order to promote the further development of component-based Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

Chinese materia medica (CMM) is the product of long-term practice of clinical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and it has the characteristics of overall effect of the multi-component and multilink multiple targets. Because of the complexity of CMM, it has not yet formed systematic and the scientific method for the TCM research, which seriously restricts the development of modernization of CMM. Under the guidance of TCM theory, we explore the study on the new mode of CMM whose components are divided into the functional units by the CMM research foundation of material basis, pharmacological mechanism, the structure optimization, and new idea on the CMM quality control based on composition structure theory and in vivo pharmacokinetic as well.
