ABSTRACT

Objective: To obtain the structural characteristics and phylogentic relationships of the chloroplast genome in Araliaceae species. Methods: we used 20 chloroplast genomes which have sequenced as materials, they were from 20 species belonging to 10 genus of Araliaceae. Analysis the differences of genomes and the dilation or shrink of four boundaries for IR, we used MEGA 4.0 to build the phylogenetic tree with Angelica gigas of sibling species as the outgroup and analysis their phylogentic relationships. Results: There was a small difference among the chloroplast genomes size, and the largest difference is 1 909 bp. All of species had existed gene replacements, cemA replaced ycf10, and number of genes existed some differences, they were mainly caused by tRNA. The four boundaries of IR was relatively conservative, only Panax vietnamensi, Panax notoginseng and Schefflera delavayi were special, their boundary genes were in IR. All nodes of the phylogenetic tree of Araliaceae which was based on Angelica gigas were of high supports, and the tree had good resolution to reflect the genetic relationships among Araliaceae. Conclusion: Chloroplast genomes have a lot of information, it can be used to analysis phylogeny among the species which are affinity or faster evolution.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the qualities of different processed products of Gastrodia elata Bl. f. glauca S. Chow, such as steamed, wine-processed, ginger-processed and tribulus-processed products, and determine the optimum processing method of Gastrodia elata. METHODS: HPLC was employed to determine gastrodin and 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, and phenol-sulfuric acid method was used to detect the content of gastrodia polysaccharide. RESULTS: Gastrodin and gastrodia polysaccharides had the highest contents(1.901 and 3.246 mg·g-1, respectively) in the tribulus-processed products; and the highest content of 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol in ginger-processed Gastrodia elata was 0.80 mg·g-1; gastrodin in two kinds of wine-processed products was lower than the others, while the content of gastrodia polysaccharide in Gastrodia elata processed by wine-soaking for three days was obviously less than those in the other products. CONCLUSION: The traditional tribulus-processed method is better than the modern steaming method. This study can provide scientific basis for the mechanism of traditional processing method of Gastrodia elata.

ABSTRACT

El Síndrome de Túnel del carpo (STC) es una patología crónica e incapacitante, causa molestias nocturnas y adormecimiento en la distribución del nervio mediano y atrofia de los músculos de la masa tenar. James Paget, citó dos casos de compresión del nervio mediano de origen post-traumático. La base para el tratamiento del STC, ha sido la sección del ligamento anular del carpo, introducida desde 1913. Recientemente se han descrito técnicas de liberación endoscópica del STC, demostrando que son compatibles los resultados finales de la cirugía abierta y la endoscópica. El Objetivo es demostrar que la Técnica de Chow modificada por Lewicky, para la realización de la liberación endoscópica del túnel del carpo, es efectiva y segura para los pacientes con STC. Se realizaron 35 cirugías de pacientes, desde el año 2008 al 2012, 3 masculinos y 22 femeninos, 13 bilaterales, 6 derechos y 3 izquierdos. El mayor grupo estaba entre los 51 y 70 años lo que significaba el 56% de los casos, el paciente operado de mayor edad tenía 74 años el de menor edad de 40 años, con predominio del sexo femenino. Se revisó por escala analógica del dolor de 1 al 10 a los pacientes, antes de la cirugía referían el máximo dolor (10) y luego de la cirugía los pacientes no refirieron dolor. Se comprobó la eficacia de la Técnica de Chow, modificada por Lewicky. Es una cirugía segura, repetible en sus resultados y escasas complicaciones, con la posibilidad de integrarse en corto tiempo a las actividades(AU)


The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a chronic and disabling, cause nocturnal discomfort and numbness in the distribution of the median nerve and atrophy of the thenar muscle mass. James Paget, cited two cases of median nerve compression post-traumatic origin. The basis for the treatment of CTS, has been the section of the annular ligament of the carpus, introduced since 1913. Recently described endoscopic techniques STC release, demonstrating that support the final results of open surgery and endoscopy. The objective is to demonstrate that the modified Chow technique Lewicky, for performing endoscopic release of the carpal tunnel, is effective and safe for patients with STC. Surgeries were performed 35 patients from 2008 to 2012, 3 male and 22 female, 13 bilateral, 6 right and 3 izleft. The largest group was between 51 and 70 years which meant 56% of the cases, the older surgical patient was 74 years younger than 40 years with female predominance. Revised by analog pain scale of 1 to 10 patients before surgery maximum pain related (11) and after surgery patients reported no pain. We tested the effectiveness of Chow technique, modified by Lewicky. Surgery is safe, repeatable results and hassle free, with the ability to integrate in a short time to activitiesl(AU)

ABSTRACT

With the purpose of verifying the occurrence of insect pests in dog food commercialized in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, samples from 15 different pet stores were submitted to the extraction of insects in a Berlese-Tullgren apparatus. Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Tenebrionidae) (55.2 percent) was the most frequent specie followed by Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Cucujidae) (31.3 percent), Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius) (Bostrichidae) (8.9 percent) and Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius) (Anobiidae) (4.7 percent), all from Coleoptera. Recife showed the highest rate of infestation (53.6 percent), followed by Olinda (34.4 percent) and Jaboatão dos Guararapes (12.0 percent). The infestation by coleopters in the region occurs with high frequency and may represent a threat mainly in commercialized products in bulk.


Objetivando verificar a ocorrência de insetos-praga em alimento industrializado para cães, comercializado na região metropolitana do Recife, amostras de 15 diferentes lojas agropecuárias foram submetidas à extração de insetos em funil de Berlese-Tullgren. Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Tenebrionidae) (55,2 por cento) foi o mais freqüente, seguido por Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Cucujidae) (31,3 por cento), Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius) (Bostrichidae) (8,9 por cento) e Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius) (Anobiidae) (4,7 por cento), todos Coleoptera. Recife apresentou o maior índice de infestação (53,6 por cento), seguido por Olinda (34,4 por cento) e Jaboatão dos Guararapes (12,0 por cento). A infestação por coleópteros ocorre com elevada freqüência na região, podendo representar uma ameaça principalmente nos produtos comercializados a granel.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Normal gut immune response to ingestive food proteins is induction of immune tolerance rather than sensitization, even in atopic individuals. Very restricted kinds of food antigens have been known to cause allergic sensitization in humans. To evaluate the differences of systemic T-cell immune responses to sensitized antigen and regular chow-protein, we performed this study. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Eight naive female, 5-week-old C3H/HeJ mice were grown under the regular mouse chow feeding condition for 4 weeks. During that period, Group I mice were sensitized with buckwheat extract(1mg/dose) mixed with cholera toxin(10 microgram/dose) by intragastric administration at day1, 2, 3, 7, and 21. The sera were obtained at weekly intervals to measure buckwheat-specific and chow-protein-specific IgE, IgG1 and IgG2a antibodies. Splenocyte proliferation assays and cytokine productions were evaluated with buckwheat. chow-protein. and Con A stimulation. Levels of antibodies (IgE, IgG1, IgG2a) and cytokines (IL-4, IL-10, IL-12, INF-gamma were measured by ELISA. RESULTS: The levels of buckwheat specific IgE, IgG1 and IgG2a were markedly increased in Group I mice, but not in Group II mice. Chow-protein specific IgE and IgG1 antibodies were not increased in both groups of mice. The degrees of buckwheat-specific and chow-protein-specific splenocyte proliferations showed low-grade(SI: 6.68 and 4.48. respectively) compared to those by Con A stimulation(SI : 58). Buckwheat stimulated IL-4 productions were markedly increased in Group I mice, which were higher than Con A stimulated production. INF-gamma production was increased in Group I mice by buckwheat stimulation, and in both groups of mice by Con A stimulation. IL-12 production was shown in Con A stimulated culture supernatants in both groups of mice, but in Group I mice with buckwheat stimulation. IL-10 productions were increased in Group I mice with buckwheat, Con A, and chow-protein stimulations, furthermore, markedly increased IL-10 levels were also shown in chow-protein stimulated splenocyte cultures in both groups of mice. CONCLUSION: While Th1 and Th2 immune responses were induced by intragastricly sensitized buckwheat extract, only regulatory immune responses were dominated by regular chow proteins in this system. The minimum ability of chow-protein specific splenocyte proliferation was preserved and IL-10 was the unique cytokine produced by chow-protein simulation.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Murine system for studying allergic diseases has been popular in the fields of food allergy and development of their therapeutic strategies. However, there has been no information about the age-dependent changes of natural immune responses of naive C3H/HeJ mice. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the age-dependent changes of B and T-cell mediated immunologic parameters in naive C3H/HeJ mice, which can provide information for experimental planning and analysis of research results. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Eight naive, female, 5-week-old C3H/HeJ mice were grown under the regular mouse chow feeding conditions for 6 weeks. Sera were obtained at week (w) 5, w6, w8 and w10 for measuring total and chow-specific IgE, IgG1 and IgG2a antibodies. Splenocyte proliferation (at w8 and w10) and cytokine production (at w6, w8 and w10) were evaluated with or without Con A stimulation with pooled splenocytes from two mice of each age group. Serum antibodies and cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, IL-12, INF-gamma, TGF-beta1) were measured by ELISA. Using RT-PCR, IL-4 and INF-gamma mRNA expressions were measured in Peyer's patch and spleen tissue at w10. RESULTS: The levels of total IgE and IgG1 were increased by age while the level of IgG2a was decreased. Chow-specific IgE and IgG2a responses were neglectable through out the whole experimental period (20-30 ng/ml or less). Chow-specific IgG1 levels were measured in the significant concentrations (200-300 ng/ml) but there was no age-dependent change through out the experiment. Con A stimulated-splenocyte proliferation indexes were variable according to the culture-durations and ages of mice. The higher proliferation indexes were observed in the wells receiving thymidine pulse at 48-hour culture, especially in the mice at w10. Con A stimulated IL-4 production in the 72-hour splenocyte culture supernatant was significantly increased at w8, and w10 while INF-gamma production increased only at w10. The changes in the production of IL-5, IL-12 and TGF-beta did not provide significant information in the present study. The ratio of IL-4/IFN-gamma mRNA expression was higher in Peyer's patch than in the spleen. CONCLUSION: The changes of B-cell and T-cell mediated immunologic parameters were complex and variable according to the age in naive C3H/HeJ mice under regular chow feeding conditions. For that reason, the information from the present study needs to be considered in the course of planning or analysing research/data using murine systems.

ABSTRACT

Objective To introduce our surgical experience and techniques of endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) by Chow technique (two-portal technique). Methods A total of 30 endoscopic procedures in 25 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTR) were performed. Results Follow-up evaluations for 1~12 months were made in all the patients. The sensibility of radial 3 fingers and a half returned to normal at postoperative 4~6 weeks in 20 sides of 18 patients. The greater thenar atrophy and opposition dysfunction in 10 sides of 7 patients disappeared at 8~12 postoperative weeks. No serious complications occurred in this series. Conclusions ECTR by Chow method has advantages of short incision, minimal invasion and rapid recovery, being an easy, safe and reliable minimally invasive procedure.

ABSTRACT

Hyperprotein chow can increase perfusion and filtration of glomerulus,and so result in kidney hypertrophy and damage.Monocytes and macrophages are considered to be a characteristic of diabetic nephropathy(DN),and play a key role in the glomerular sclerotic lesions.At present,hyperprotein chow,infiltration of monocytes and macrophages and overproduction of intercellular adhension molecule-1(ICAM-1) are thought to be involved in the progression of DN.Hyperprotein chow resulting in hyperfiltration may be one of potential mechanisms of ICAM-1 upregulation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the chemical constituents from the seeds of Ziziphus jujuba var.spinosa,which is used as a sedative herbal medicine in China.Methods The constituents were separated and purified by silica gel column.Their structures were elucidated based on their physicochemical properties and spectral analysis.Results Six compounds were obtained from 95% EtOH extracts in the seeds of Z.jujuba var.spinosa.They were identified as 2?,3?-dihydroxy-lup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid methyl ester(Ⅰ),?-sitosterol(Ⅱ),betulin(Ⅲ),betulinic acid(Ⅳ),hexadexanoic acid 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ester(Ⅴ),and daucosterol(Ⅵ).Conclusion Compound Ⅰ is a novel lupane triterpene named as alphitolic acid methyl ester,compound Ⅴ is obtained from the seeds of Z.jujuba var.spinosa for the first time.
