ABSTRACT

Objective:To assess the effect of combined cognitive rehabilitation training on improving cogni-tive dysfunction in amphetamine-type stimulant dependent patients. Methods:Subjects who met the clinical diagno-sis of ATS dependence by DSM-IV in compulsory isolation detoxification institute were randomly assigned into in-tervention group (n =30 )and control group (n =26 ).Control group received a regular education.Intervention group also received a combined cognitive rehabilitation training besides regular education, including psychological and physical rehabilitation for 24 weeks. The Chinese version of CogState Battery (CSB)was used to assess cogni-tive function at baseline and 24 weeks after the intervention. Results:No significant difference was found on all sub-scales scores of CogState Battery between two groups at baseline. At 24 weeks after the intervention, compared to control group, the intervention group had more improvements in three sub-scale scores,i.e.,One Card LearningTask [(0.06 ±0.12)vs. (-0.03 ±0.14),P0.05 ).Conclusion:The combined cognitive rehabilitation training could improve amphetamine-type stimulant dependent patients'visual learning and memory, working memory and spatial working memory, while have no significant im-provement on other cognitive functions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of cognitive rehabilitation training based on games on cognition of the traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients. Methods 60 cases of patients according with the inclusion and exclusion criteria were divided into the control group and the training group with 30 cases in each group. The Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) test scores of all patients were lower than 26 points. The training group accepted the cognitive rehabilitation training based on games such as exactly the same game, drum game and picture memory game, while the control group did not accept the training. After one month, all patients accepted the MoCA test again. Then we analyzed the differences of the cognition between the two groups. Results After 30 days of training, all items of the cognitive function increased except the sub-item of abstraction. While in the control group, only the scores of attention, delayed recall, orientation and the total score showed alleviation. And all the scores of the training group were higher than those of the control group except the sub-item of abstraction. Conclusions Cognitive rehabilitation training based on games can effectively improve the cognitive function of TBI patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES : The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of computerized cognitive rehabilitation training on inpatients with schizophrenia in the rehabilitation unit. METHODS : Thirty-eight patients with schizophrenia from the Yongin Mental Hospital Rehabilitation Ward were randomly assigned either to a computerized cognitive rehabilitation group or to a control group. The rehabilitation group received 12 sessions of computerized cognitive rehabilitation training (Cog-Trainer) over 3 months. This training program consisted of ten units, each of which consisted of 3 levels, practice, application, and advanced. Neurocognitive functions were assessed at the beginning and end of the training period. Cognitive measures included Span of Apprehension (SPAN), Continuous Performance Test (CPT), Digit Span, Trail Making Test, and the Stroop Test. RESULTS : Compared to controls, subjects receiving computerized cognitive rehabilitation training experienced a significant improvement in attention, concentration, and working memory. CONCLUSION : These results indicate that computerized cognitive rehabilitation training can contribute to improvement in cognitive function of patients with schizophrenia. Further study to generalize these results is required.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: This study was to evaluate the effects of cognitive rehabilitation training on the cognitive decline of elderly dementia patients. METHODS: Each of 20 subjects received 16 session of repeated training with computer-aided cognitive rehabilitation program (REHACOM). Cognitive function of all subjects were evaluated by K-DRS, K-BNT, K-MMSE and GDS before and after the training. RESULTS: Significant improvement of attention and memory was observed following REHACOM. There was no significant change in visuospatial memory, executive function, and conceptualization. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that cognitive rehabilitation training with elderly dementia patients can be useful to ameliorate the cognitive decline and to enhance motivation and self-esteem.
