ABSTRACT

Bullous pemphigoid is a chronic obstinate dermatological disease. Hormone is the main therapeutic method, but the disease course is rather long, relapse is frequently seen and difficult to be radically cured; many complications may occur such as pulmonary infection, etc. From traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) basic principal points of view "lung governing skin and hair" and "strengthen the body resistance to eliminate pathogenic factors", the author explored the TCM therapy of bullous pemphigoid. By using clearing away lung heat and invigorating lung qi as the main principles supplemented by invigorating spleen and kidney, eliminating phlegm and blood stasis for treatment of such disease, relatively satisfactory therapeutic results were obtained.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To observe the efficacy of the combination of chemotherapy and Ginseng Rg3 on advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).@*Methods@#In the multi-center, large-sample, randomized, double blind trial, 414 patients with Ⅲ-Ⅳ NSCLC were enrolled.199 were in the experimental group and 215 the control group. The patients in the experimental group were treated with the standard first-line chemotherapy combined with Ginseng Rg3. The patients in the control group were treated with the same chemotherapy combined with placebo. Median overall survival (OS), Karnofsky performance scale (KPS), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) symptoms score and side effects of two groups were observed as main indexes.@*Results@#The median OS were 12.03 months in the experimental group, which was significantly better than that in the control group (8.46 months, P<0.05). Hemoglobin and white blood cells were decreased after the first and second cycle of treatment in both groups. Both adverse events were significantly milder in the treatment group (P<0.05). In addition, after two courses of treatment, the KPS of patients was 78.95±9.14 in the experimental group and 76.77±9.15 in the control group, while the TCM symptoms score was 2.45±1.73 in the experimental group and 2.92±2.06 in the control group, with significant difference (P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#Combination of TCM with Western medicine such as chemotherapy could prolong the survival of patients with advanced NSCLC. The combined therapy improved patients′ symptoms and reduced chemotherapy induced myelosuppression.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to evaluate efficacy of acupuncture combined with western medicine in treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) with meta-analysis of data came from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Databases both at home and abroad were comprehensively searched to collect efficacy data of acupuncture combined with western medicine versus western medicine in RCTs. The data was extracted from each study to conduct a meta-analysis with RevMan 5.2. The results showed that 10 studies measured up to standard. Seven studies reported effective cases were carried out by meta-analysis. The total RR was 1.25 [1.14, 1.38]. The funnel plot was approximately symmetry. It was suggested that effect of the therapy group was better than the control group (Z = 4.66,P<0.01). Four studies reported mini-mental state examination (MMSE) scores were carried out by meta-analysis. The total MD was 2.87 [0.64, 5.10]. The funnel plot was approximately symmetry. It was suggested that the therapy group was better than the control group on AD treatment in cognitive function improvement (Z = 2.52,P= 0.01). It was concluded that from current study, acupuncture combined with western medicine in AD treatment was definitely effective. However, it still required further study.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the changes of ultrasound image before and after treatment and in order to provide the reference for clinical diagnosis. Methods Seventy-eight chronic epididymitis patients who treated with traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine from January 2007 to February 2009were enrolled in this study. They were given oral sparfloxacin tablets as 3 tablets once a day,at the same time,Danhong Tongjing decoction were given 1 dose/d,boiling water decoction,to take medicine morning and evening.Clinical effectiveness was observed after treated for 30 d.The epididymal size, internal echo intensity, resistance index(RI) of blood flow, maximum and minimum blood flow (Vmax, and Vmin),the ratio of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (S/D) and blood flow changes of color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) were detected before treatment, treatment for 15 d,and after treatment. Results Fifty patients were cured,20 patients were better and 8 patients had no effectiveness. In cured and better patients, the epididymal size,Vmax and Vmin,RI and S/D at treatment for 15 d and after treatment were significantly improved compared with before treatment [the epididymal size:the thickness of tail:(1.14 ± 0.19),(0.75 ±0.13) cm vs.(1.68 ± 0.25) cm; the thickness of body:(0.54 ± 0.17),(0.46 ± 0.11) cm vs.(0.63 ± 0.12)cm; the thickness of head:(1.12 ±0.16),(0.80 ±0.15) cm vs.(1.53 ±0.27) cm;Vmax:(0.22 ±0.12),(0.19 ± 0.10) m/s vs.(0.28 ± 0.13) m/s;Vmin:(0.14 ± 0.05),(0.07 ± 0.02) m/s vs.(0.19 ± 0.08) m/s;RI:0.64 ±0.13,0.52 ±0.10 vs.0.89 ±0.17;S/D:3.64 ±1.40,2.78 ±1.26 vs.4.35 ±1.62] (P <0.05).Conclusions Color Doppler ultrasound can accurately detect the significant changes before and after treatment in patients with chronic epididymitis, such as epididymal size, internal echo intensity,RI,Vmax,Vmin,S/D and grade of blood flow, which can provide information for prognosis, and guide the clinical treatment. It has important application value in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic epididymitis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effects of treating herpes zoster with the combination of Chinese and western medicine. Methods 160 cases of herpes zoster were randomly recruited into a treatment group(n=80),and a control group (n=80).The control group was treated with westem medicine(acyclovir, ethacridine solvents, and vitamin B6 and B12).The treatment group was administrated with Chinese medicines, acupuncture and cupping on the basis of treats in the control group Results The total effective rate was 100%in the treatment group and 72.5%in the control group. There was significant difference between the two groups(χ~2=23.85,P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of Chinese and western medicine is effective in treating herpes zoster and worthy of generalization.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To observe the clinical efficacy of Xuebijing injection for hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) complicating acute renal failure(ARF). METHODS:A total of 72 patients with HFRS complicating ARF were randomly assigned to receive combined therapy of western medicines(control group,n=30) or combined therapy of western medicines in combination with Xuebijing injection(trial group,n=42). RESUTLS:There were significant differences between the trial group and the control group in total effective rate (95.24% vs.80.00%) (P
