ABSTRACT
Objective To observe and evaluate the clinical curative efficacy of perineal stapled prolapse resection in the treatment of complete rectal prolapse.Methods 15 patients of complete rectal prolapse were all treated by perineal stapled prolapse resection,The anal function of the patients were evaluated according to the Wexner incontinence score standard.Results All patients were successfully completed the operation.Postoperative complications:postoperative bleeding in 2 cases,anastomotic stenosis in 2 cases.These symptoms were relieved after symptomatic treatment.The anal sphincter function was improved in all patients after operation.There were no obvious incontinence.The preoperative Wexner incontinence score was 13.5±1.8,andpostoperative Wexner incontinence score was 4.2±1.5,there were significant statistical difference between them(P<0.05).The mean follow-up were 18 months(2-30 months).There was no recurrence during the follow-up period.Conclusion Perineal stapled prolapse resection as a new type of operation had small trauma,simple operation,less complications and short-term curative effect of good characteristics.They can effectively improve the symptoms of anal incontinence in patients with complete rectal prolapse.

Rectal prolapse is a relatively rare condition. Most cases are chronic and present electively. However, a complete rectal prolapse with gangrenous bowel is an uncommon life-threatening emergency condition. Gangrenous bowel significantly increases morbidity and mortality and thus an urgent surgical intervention is always indicated. We describe a case with the above mentioned rare presentation, and he was successfully treated with an emergency abdominoperineal resection (APR). Irreducible rectal prolapse with gangrenous bowel is rarely encountered and literature on this presentation is very scanty. Here, we present a patient with complete rectal prolapsed with gangrenous bowel treated successfully with emergency APR.

Objetivo: Presentamos nuestra experiencia en el tratamiento quirúrgico de esta patología con la técnica de la rectosigmoidectomía perineal. Material y método: Se trata de una serie retrospectiva, consecutiva de 17 pacientes. Resultados: Predomina el género femenino y el promedio de edad es de 62 años. La morbilidad alcanza el 23%, aunque casi toda de menor gravedad, con solo un paciente reoperado. La recidiva es del 6%, con mejoría de los síntomas en un 88%. Conclusión: Concluimos que es una técnica segura, con una morbilidad controlada y con buenos resultados a mediano plazo con un adecuado control de la recidiva y mejoría de la continencia en un alto porcentaje de los pacientes.
Aim: We present our experience with perineal rectosigmoidectomy for the treatment of rectal prolapse. Material and method: It is a retrospective, consecutive series of 17 patients. Results: Predominantly female and the average age is 62 years. Morbidity reached 23%, but almost all less serious, with only one reoperation. Recurrence is 6%, and the improvement in continence is 88%. Conclusion: We conclude that it is a safe technique with a controlled morbidity and good results with low recurrence and improvement of continence in a high percentage of patients.
