ABSTRACT

Abstract Objectives This study aims to evaluate the dynamics of clinical and laboratory indicators of the periodontal state and hemodynamics in patients receiving pharmaceutical intervention for the treatment of vitamin D deficiency as a part of the complex therapy of chronic generalized periodontitis. Methodology This was a randomized prospective comparative clinical trial. It involved 110 patients with moderate generalized periodontitis and vitamin D deficiency (25(OH)<50 nmol/L) who were divided into two experimental groups. One experimental group received conventional treatment, whereas the other group received conventional treatment with pharmaceutical intervention for the treatment of vitamin D deficiency(vitamin D3 + calcium). Results A significant reduction in periodontal inflammation was observed across all study groups starting from day 14 of treatment. However, in a longer perspective (12 and 18 months after treatment), the indices analyzed remained fairly stable and corresponded to the chronic periodontitis clinical stabilization stage in both groups. The conventional treatment group demonstrated a marked tendency for all indicators to return to the baseline. Conclusions Pharmacotherapy of vitamin D deficiency contributed to the normalization of periodontal microcirculation (the σ and Kv values approached those of healthy periodontium) as evidenced by the immediate and long-term follow-up results. Clinical observation of patients suffering from moderate chronic generalized periodontitis with underlying hypovitaminosis D makes an argument to the use of vitamin D supplementation for the correction of vitamin D deficiency as a part of the complex treatment. ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: The long history of traditional medicine clearly demonstrates the role of nutrition in the prevention andtreatment of the disease. Of particular importance in modern scientific medicine is the simultaneous use natural biologically activecomplexes and mediccines. The objective of this study is to provide clinical evidence of the effectiveness and functional orientation of a newtype of biologically active additives (BAA) in the patients with vegetative vascular dystonia and chronic cerebrovascular disorder.Methodology: The principles of the modern science of nutrition on the role of individual macro-and micronutrients, and minor componentsof food in the correction of metabolic disorders form the methodological basis of the research. Results: The biologically active additive"Sophia" was introduced in the diet of the patients for 4 weeks at a dose of one tablet, in combination with 50 mg of Trental per day (the 1stmain group). The 2nd main group received an additional "Guta-Viva" additive. The 3rd (control) group received Trental only, at theprescribed dosage. The use of BAA had a positive effect on the relief of disease syndromes, and improved overall health. Conclusion: Theantioxidant effect of the specialized product, as well as the improvement of metabolic processes in the brain, was noted. A conclusion wasmade that the test product can be an effective remedy in the treatment of moderately grave vegetative-vascular dystonia. BAA is welltolerated by the patients and does not cause side effects.

ABSTRACT

Incidence of cancer is increasing year by year, diagnostic techniques are continually advanced, and the numbers of anti-cancer drugs are growing, but the efficacy has not been fundamentally improved.Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy can only kill the part of mature tumor cells, but can not kill the cancer stem cells, and eventually leading to tumor recurrence. While acupuncture, qigong, psychology comprehensive treatment can inhibit tumor growth and reduce metastasis and recurrence, improve quality of life and prolong survival. We should update our recognition,to carry out the study on the treatment of tumor by TCM with large sample and multiple centers,to demonstrate its low toxicity, low costs and efficiency.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of four-combined therapy (high-frequency hyperthermia + chemotherapy + immuno-biological therapy + traditional Chinese medicine) on advanced cancer. Methods: Five hundred and sixty-five patients with various advanced cancer received anti-tumor treatment in the First Hospital of Changsha from July 2004 to July 2006. They were randomized into two groups (A and B). Group A (n = 223) received four-combined therapy including hyperthermia and Group B (n = 342) received three-combined therapy without hyperthermia. Hyperthermia was performed at 40°C-42°C for 60 min (once or twice every week and 6 times as one cycle) and repeated for 3-5 cycles. The clinical outcome of two groups were recorded and compared. Results: After the patients in group A received four-combined therapy, the cancer-related pain was relieved and the tumor size was decreased to different extent. There was significant difference in the clinical outcome between the two groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Four-combined therapy involving hyperthermia has definite anti-tumor effects, light toxicity, and well tolerability. It is a good method which is worthy of popularizing in clinic.

ABSTRACT

Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is a quite common disease, and it is a functional enteropathy that characterized by abdomen discomfort or pain, diarrhea, constipation or the mix of both.At present the clinical diagnosis refers to the Roman Ⅱ standard, but it is easy to create leaks examines. In 2006,the new Roman Ⅲ standard let clinician have a more objective basis regarding diagnosis of children with IBS.Its treatment is a complex therapy based on the symptom and serious degree of the symptom. The author will introduce children with IBS with emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment progress.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Exposure to airborne allergens exacerbates symptoms of atopic dermatitis in sensitive patients. OBJECTIVE: We attempted to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Dermatophagoides farinae antigen-autoantibody immune complex therapy in atopic dermatitis. METHODS: Four patients with atopic dermatitis were treated with antigen-autoantibody immune complex therapy using D. farinae antigen for 1 year. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by clinical severity (erythema, excoriations, scale, pruritus, lichenification) and D. farinae specific antibodies, skin test to D. farinae, total IgE, eosinophil count and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1). RESULTS: One of four patients had significant improvement in clinical severity and decrease in serum eosinophil count, but three of four patients had no significant improvement in clinical severity, skin test to D. farinae, total IgE, specific antibodies and soluble VCAM-1 after allergenantibody complex therapy except specific IgE to D. farinae. CONCLUSION: The efficacy of allergen-antibody complex therapy may be limited in some atopic dermatitis patients.
