ABSTRACT

To investigate the effects of Guiluerx-ianjiao (GLEXJ) on the change of behaviors and HPA axis function in a rat model of post-traumatic stress disorder ( PTSD ). Methods Single-prolonged stress (SPS) was used to establish the model of PTSD. The level of locomotor activities and anxiety behaviors were assessed by open field test and elevated plus maze test. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal fast negative feedback function was assessed by dexamethasone suppression test. The contents of both plasma CORT and ACTH were measured by ELISA. Results On day 8 after SPS, model group showed enhanced HPA fast negative feedback and continued to day 22. The anxiety level of model group increased on day 8 and lasted on day 29. While on day 29, locomotor activities decreased and plasma CORT content increased. When continuously treated by GLEXJ for 14 days, the enhanced HPA axis negative feedback function was significantly inhibited in GLEXJ group. After 21 days of continuous administration, locomotor activities increased. In addition, the level of anxiety and CORT content were down-regulated in GLEXJ group. Conclusions GLEXJ could mitigate behavior disorder in a rat model of PTSD, which may be related to regulating HPA axis dysfunction.

ABSTRACT

The present study was designed to experiment the effect of De Bono’s CoRT Thinking Program on the Concept Map Performance of Senior Secondary School students of grade IX and X in relation to their level of intelligence. Two identical groups comprised of 51 respondents in each i.e. Experimental and Controlled were drawn with the help of multiclustered random sampling techniques and level testing. While treatment tenure Experimental Groups were taught with CoRT Thinking Program and Controlled Groups were taught with traditional way in a controlled condition as per requirement of experimental method. Results of the experiment were then analyzed by different statistical techniques. It was observed that CoRT Thinking Program has significant effects on concept map performance. Level of intelligence has also been found to have significant effect on some component of concept map performance.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the change of glucocxnticoid(GC) and the messenger RNA expression of its receptor(GRmRNA) in MRL/lpr mice with the intervention of nourishing yin and clearing heat decoction. Methods Forty MRL/lpr mice were randomly divided into four groups:model control group,TCM group, west medicine group, combined treatment of traditional chinese medicine and west medicine group,10 mice in each group. The group was intragastrically administrated normal sodium, nourishing yin and clearing heat decoction, prednisone suspension, nourishing yin and clearing heat decoction plus prednisone suspension,0.5 mL every time, once daily for 10 weeks respectively.Meanwhile,10 Kungming mice were selected as normal group, administrated normal sodium, like the model group. The expression of glucocxnticoid receptor-alpha and beta(GR?mRNA,GR?mRNA) were detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Results Compared with normal, the expression of GRmRNA was increased in model groups, but the level of GC was not different.Compared with model group,GR?mRNA and GR?mRNA of MRL/lpr mice were improved in all treatment groups, especially in combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine group. Conclusion Nourishing yin and clearing heat decoction has effect of upregulating the expression of GRmRNA in MRL/lpr mice,so as to enhance the effect of glucocorticoid and reduce its side effects.
