ABSTRACT

Background: High-ability students require effective educational strategies. This study introduces and evaluates a curriculum enrichment programme aimed at enhancing cre ativity. The programme is based on a competency framework and was implemented using variations of Project-Based Learning (PBL) strategies. Method: A quasi-experimental design compared two interventions using pre-test and post-test groups. The first intervention (N = 38) involved a 12-week PBL unit focused on designing a video game using block-based program ming through Scratch. The second intervention (N = 51), also lasting 12 weeks, comprised three separate projects involving vectorial design and programming of an Arduino-based ro bot. Both interventions used strategies for creative-thinking development. The sample includ ed high-ability students from 8 to 12 years of age. Results: Both interventions significantly increased creativity, with no statistical differences between them. This suggests that both types of PBL interventions effectively improved participants' creativity. Conclusions: This study suggests that PBL-based curricular enrichment programmes are effective in fostering creativity among high-ability students.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Previous studies have shown the usefulness of cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) in patients with eating disorders (ED). The objective of this study was to assess a new cognitive technique called "With the head in the clouds" (WHC). A total of 22 women with ED (13 with anorexia nervosa and nine with bulimia nervosa), between 14 and 29 years (M = 19.0, SD = 3.4), completed the six group sessions of this technique. Under a design pre-post intervention, participants were assessed in: visuo-constructive functions (Copy of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure [CRCF]), creative thinking (Torrance Creative Thinking Test [TCTT]), cognitive flexibility (CRCF and TCTT), and cognitive control (Stroop Test). The intervention improved different cognitive domains, such as: greater global coherence, creative thinking and resistance to closure, as well as less fragmentation. Based on CRT, aimed at stimulating the new processing of visual stimuli, the technique WHC showed an improvement in some of the cognitive processes involved in the onset of symptoms in patients with ED.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the impact of introducing cutting-edge scientific and technologi-cal literature into the general course of nutrition and health on the teaching effect. Methods Undergrad-uates were divided into experimental group and control group, with 50 students per group. The views from top research papers, as a part of teaching substance, were introduced to experimental group but not control group. The results of studying were evaluated by quiz and team presentation, and the effects of teaching were evaluated by questionnaire. The data were analyzed by the statistic method of independent sample double t-test. Results Statistical difference was found in average score between experiment group and control group [(54.40 ±5.47) vs. (47.96 ±4.29) in quiz, and (38.54 ±0.85) vs. (36.14 ±1.21) in team presentation, P=0.000]. Meanwhile, the score of questionnaire survey for interest, active thinking, studying effect, satisfaction and peer recommendation in experimental group were significantly higher than control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The introduction of cutting-edge research papers in class helps students to be more thoughtful and creative, thus it is an effective way to improve the integrative quality of the under-graduates. In the selection of literature content, we should adopt topics that are close to life, so as to arouse students' interest in active learning.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed at investigating the influence of creative thinking on teachers' entrepreneurial behavior and the demographic characteristics correlated with teachers' entrepreneurial behavior. Participants were 344 U.S. public school teachers. The mean age was 42.1 (SD=11.5) and the mean years of teaching experience was 14.6 (SD=10). Female teachers comprised the larger gender group (n=250, 73%). The results indicated that age and creative thinking were the only variables showing significant unique contributions to entrepreneurial behavior. These findings highlight the importance of creativity for teachers trying to innovate in the classroom. The results also indicate that accumulated experience allows older teachers to better understand how the different layers of the educational system function.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) is a well-known and commonly used measure of creativity. However, the TTCT-induced creative hemodynamic brain activity is rarely revealed. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the neural correlates of creative thinking in the setting of a modified version of the figural TTCT adapted for an functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) experiment. METHODS: We designed a blocked fMRI experiment. Twenty-five participants (11 males, 14 females, mean age 19.9±1.8) were asked to complete the partially presented line drawing of the figural TTCT (creative drawing imagery; creative). As a control condition, subjects were asked to keep tracking the line on the screen (line tracking; control). RESULTS: Compared to the control condition, creative condition revealed greater activation in the distributed and bilateral brain regions including the left anterior cingulate, bilateral frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital regions as shown in the previous creativity studies. CONCLUSIONS: The present revealed the neural basis underlying the figural TTCT using fMRI, providing an evidence of brain areas encompassing the figural TTCT. Considering the significance of a creativity test for dementia patients, the neural correlates of TTCT elucidated by this study may be valuable to evaluate the brain function of patients in the clinical field.

ABSTRACT

In this work we reflect on the impact of the artistic-aesthetic issue on knowledge structure, analyzing it from a learning-cognition approach. It is of great importance that school favours creative thinking development, and we recognize in the artistic experience an important platform to enhance it. The different artistic languages (visual arts, music, theatre, body languages) constitute cultural symbolic systems that promote expression and communication possibilities. In our research², we are documenting situations where these languages have place, and analyzing the meaning that is weaved and organized throughout the different activities. In this work we include different theoretical developments that widen the concept of education, understanding learning and expression as dynamic and simultaneous phenomena. We intend these reflections to contribute in the thinking over the importance of art's place in school, and over the access to the aesthetic-expressive experience as a universal right and a fundamental factor of human development.
