ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To present the Brazilian Neuromyelitis Optica Database System (NMO-DBr), a database system which collects, stores, retrieves, and analyzes information from patients with NMO and NMO-related disorders. METHOD: NMO-DBr uses Flux, a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) for data management. We used information from medical records of patients with NMO spectrum disorders, and NMO variants, the latter defined by the presence of neurological symptoms associated with typical lesions on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or aquaporin-4 antibody seropositivity. RESULTS: NMO-DBr contains data related to patient's identification, symptoms, associated conditions, index events, recurrences, family history, visual and spinal cord evaluation, disability, cerebrospinal fluid and blood tests, MRI, optic coherence tomography, diagnosis and treatment. It guarantees confidentiality, performs cross-checking and statistical analysis. CONCLUSION: NMO-DBr is a tool which guides professionals to take the history, record and analyze information making medical practice more consistent and improving research in the area.

ABSTRACT

Despite wide acceptance of the idea of 'evidence based medicine (EBM)', there is still a huge gap between evidence and clinical practice. Pre-appraised resources help clinicians find correct answers to clinical questions more easily and rapidly. It will briefly explain the concept and history of EBM. Frequently used pre-appraised resources like as systematic review, evidence based guidelines, health technology assessment, synopses, and clinical information database systems are also introduced.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to develop a database system for visiting nurses working in a community health center. The final goal of the system is for it to be used as a nationwide database-collecting tool over the Internet for community health services. Three unique systems were developed and trialed. The first system focused on the data warehousing technology as a research centered system for a theory based database construction. The second system was a local system, which has already been utilized in a proactive health center, and had the system interface revised according to the newly developed standardized framework of the service. The third system was part of the integrated community health information system, which had the goal of general dissemination. It is clear that these systems reflect the unique characteristics and goals of the test sites, and should be supported for the Systems Life Cycle to survive. The authors plan to move to the next stage of developing an integrated nationwide health information system for community health services.

ABSTRACT

The Objective of this research was to construct the multimedia database system that was necessary for the education of the practitioners and the students. To establish this system, there were technical problems as follows: 1) The processing of the images, 2) The rapid processing of the information with the computer network, 3) The development of diagnosis tools, 4) The technique to establish the database system, 5)The link between the database system and the internet, and 6) The method to educate through many cases. The analysis for diagnosis and treatment planning were provided as two parts : model analysis and cephalometric analysis. As a model analysis, arch length discrepancy and Bolton tooth ratio were provided for the part of patient information. Cephalometric analyses were provided in the part of initial diagnosis. The Cephalometric analysis ver 2.0 and the PowerCeph pro 3.3.5 were used to show Tweed, Steiner and Jarabak analysis. In the main part, Kim's analysis and some measurements were added. In the post-treatment or retention part, we show the superimposition of the cephalometrics with which you can find the effectiveness of the various orthodontic treatment. ABSTRACT

A computerized system for database of radiotherapy patient and for its application was developed in 1987 and has been utilized till now. A radiotherapy planning computer (Eclipse S-14O) operated under AOS (Advanced Operating System) is the main processing unit of the system which was programmed with Fortran-5. Records of 30,000 patients can be separately registered and data of 5 courses of radiotherapy delivered to one patient can be separately registered but structurally linked together. The same environment is allowed for 60 follow-up data. Our system's utility is very convenient to use and provides simple or conditional list of records or items, periodic statistics concerning many parameters and survival or complication analysis of stored database or data manually put in. Structure, operation and several retrieval formats by data processings are reported.
