ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the quality of examination papers of otolaryngology among students of grade 2007 in the first clinical college of Chongqing Medical University. Methods Totally 202 copies of examination papers of otolaryngology from grade 2007 students in our college were taken as research references.SASS 15.0 software was used to statistically analyze total score of every student and score of each question.Mean score, standard deviation, difficulty coefficient and discrimination coefficient of each question were counted and normality test was conducted. Results Scores were in negative skewness distribution, with mean score of 80.9,standard deviation of 10.9,the lowest score of 56.5,the highest score of 98.0,difficulty coefficient of 0.781,and discrimination coefficient of 0.308.Conclusions Examination papers are well designed and discriminated and can objectively reflect students' command of the course. However, distribution of sores is unreasonable and examination paper is relatively easy to complete, indicating the weakness in the teaching process.

ABSTRACT

In order to understand the students'knowledge mastery, assess teaching effects and improve the quality of teaching, this article analyzed the test papers of Neurology among the five-year program clinical medicine students of Grade 2006 in our College. The results indicated that the mean score of the exam was 87.29 with a standard deviation of 7.90.The distribution was negatively skewed. The degree of difficulty was 0.78 and the discrimination is 0.19.The reliability was 0.59.It demonstrated that the test papers had a good reliability, the design of the test papers was too easy and could not reasonablely discriminate the degree in evaluating the students'mastery of the course. Therefore,we shoud pay attention to appropriate difficulty and ensare quality in preparing test papers to scientifically evaluate teaching quality.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to estimate the degree of difficulty in total mesorectal excisions (TMEs) for rectal cancer by using statistical methods after analysis of factors affecting the resection time and incomplete resection. METHODS: A total of 63 patients who underwent a total mesorectal excision for rectal cancer were evaluated. MRI pelvimetry data {(transverse diameter (TD), obstetric conjugate (OC), interspinous distance (ID), sacrum length (SL), sacrum depth (SD)}, tumor size (TS), T stage, and body mass index (BMI) were prospectively analyzed. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the operating time prediction equation by using these variables, and the differences in the mean operating time hased on gross evaluations of each specimen were analyzed. RESULTS: A stepwise multiple regression with the operating time as a dependent variable led to the following equation: Operation time (min)=35.726-2.162xTD (cm)-2.324 x OC (cm) + 2.671 x SL (cm) + 1.274 x TS (cm), with r2=0.533 and SEE=5.438. The mean operating time according to a gross evaluation of the TME specimen was 20.0 +/- 7.3 min in complete TME cases (n=42) and 27.9 +/- 7.2 min in incomplete TME cases (n=21) (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: MRI pelvimetry data (TD, OC, SL) and tumor size were factors affecting the operation time in TMEs for rectal cancer, and the operating time could be predicted by using the equation of the present study. Also, the mean operating time in incomplete TME cases was longer than that in complete TME cases. Thus, the degree of difficulty of an operation for rectal cancer can be predicted by using these factors.

ABSTRACT

The score of the final test papers of rehabilitation medicine among the fiveyear prgram clinical students of Grade 2005 in our university were analyzed, which showed that the test paper had the degree of difficulty and discrimination was good, which reflected the students’real level. And at the same time we found that students could not to make good use of learning to analyze and work out a solution. Therefore,we should pay attention to the combination between teaching and clinical practice, increase student’chance of learning on the job, and properly append such subjects as application, synthetic and evaluation in the test papers.
