ABSTRACT

A quasi-experimental study of therapeutic intervention in 60 patients with herpes zoster who attended the Dermatology department of "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from July, 2012 to March, 2014, in order to determine the effectiveness of the combined therapy of homeopathy and Su Jok, for which parametric and not parametric statistical tests were used. The patients were randomly assigned into 2 groups; in one the conventional treatment was applied (control group) and in the other, the alternative therapy (study group) . The homeopathic remedies Sulphur, Apis mellifica, Rhus toxicodendron and Daphne mezereum; the thistle saint seeds to stimulate the correspondence points of Su Jok and the medications acyclovir, dipirone and diphenhydramine were used. In the series females (38.3%), the age group 45-64 years (58.3%) and the intercostal clinical form (38.3%) prevailed; also, the most frequent symptoms were pain, pruritus and ardour, with primacy of the first one (51.6%). The combined Su Jok therapy and homeopathy showed similar results (83.3%) to those obtained with the conventional therapy (86.6%) and it produced minimum adverse effects (6.6%).

ABSTRACT

A controlled and randomized clinical therapeutical assay in phase III was carried out in 52 patients with vulgar psoriasis, who were assisted in the Dermatology department of "Dr. Joaquín Castillo Duany" Clinical Surgical Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from 2005 to 2010 who were divided into 2 groups (26 members each): the active group which was conventionally treated with 20% cade ointment; and the experimental group, to which the extremely low frequency electromagnetic field was applied, with the objective of determining the effectiveness of this field in those affected during the periods of crisis and intercrisis. The studied population was clinically characterized by means of a frequency analysis, while the hypothesis tests were used for the evaluation of proportions which null hypothesis were accepted with 5 % as maximum error. In the series the used field was effective to treat the disorder during crisis and more effective than the cade ointment to prolong the intercrisis stage, without causing adverse reactions, so that it constituted a new alternative therapy that can be generalized in the dermatological services of the country, in order to improve the life quality of those who suffer that dermatosis.

ABSTRACT

A longitudinal and prospective study was conducted in 2 340 patients with Tinea corporis that went to the Dermatology Department from "El Bajo" Comprehensive Diagnosis Center of San Francisco municipality (Venezuela), from January to December 2010, with the purpose of determining the characteristics of the disease in these patients, which was the second leading cause of dermatological morbidity in the series. Male sex, the age group of 20-29 years, the hips as the most affected anatomical site, single lesions and lesions of defined edges prevailed. Despite the different epidemiological health measures undertaken, tinea corporis is still a health problem, therefore educational interventions must be implemented in all Venezuelan population, so that the risk factors for infection are modified.

Results After training, problems between nurses and patients communication significantly reduced; nurses could use verbal communication and non-verbal communication properly; the harmonious rate between nurses and patients increased from 38.6% to 57.0%; patients satisfaction degree increased from 80.2% to 93.8%. Conclusions The nurse-patient communication and targeted training have an important significance for dermatology nurses to improve communication skills.
