ABSTRACT

Diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM)is a serious cardiovascular complication of diabetes.Mitochondrial dysfunction constitutes an important pathological basis of diabetic cardiomyopathy.Since DCM usually coexists with dysfunction of mitophagy, elucidating the relationship between them will help find new therapeutic targets for DCM.Mitochondrial autophagy includes two processes, the initiation of autophagy and degradation, and can selectively remove damaged mitochondria to achieve a balance in myocardial homeostasis and metabolic regulation in diabetes. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the role of mitochondrial autophagy in the pathophysiology underlying DCM, the influence of diabetes on mitochondria autophagy in cardiomyocytes and related molecular mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the level of foot care behavior and analyse related influencing factors in patients with high risk of type 2 diabetic foot (DF).Methods Apply the Chinese version of the Nottingham Assessment of Functional Footcare to 300 cases of patients with high risk of DF and take oneway ANOVA and multiple stepwise linear regression analysis on the general information and current foot condition. Results The score of foot care behavior was (45.58 ±7.83) scores.52.3 percents patients' scores were less than 45.Gender,previous education of diabetic foot care and history of diabetic foot ulcer were influencing factors of foot care behavior in patients with high risk of type 2 diabetic foot (t=3.196,3.392,2.462,P<0.05).Conclusions The current level of foot care behavior was relatively low in patients with high risk of type 2 DF.It was also approved that female patients with high risk of DF who had received diabetic foot care education and suffered from diabetic foot ulcer before score much higher on foot care behavior.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect of hyperbaric factor on lidocaine-induced apoptosis in spinal neurons in rats with diabetic neuropathic pain. Methods Healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 220-300 g,were used in the study.Diabetic neuropathic pain was induced by high-sugar high-fat diet + intraperitoneal 1% streptozotocin (STZ) 30 mg/kg and confirmed by blood glucose level > 16.65 mmol/L at 3 days after STZ injection and then intrathecal catheter was placed.Twenty-four rats with diabetic neuropathic pain in which IT catheters were successfully implanted were randomly divided into 3 groups (n =8 each):hyperbaric lidocaine group (group HL),isobaric lidocaine group (group IL),and glucose group (group G).Another 8 rats in which IT catheters were successfully inserted served as control group (group C).2% hyperbaric lidocaine 10 μl (in C and HL groups),2% isobaric lidocaine 10 μl (in group IL),or 10% glucose 10 μl (in group G) was injected intrathecally once a day for 3 consecutive days. The duration of motor block was recorded at 2 min after each administration. The paw withdrawal threshold to von Frey filament stimulation (PWT) was measured before STZ injection (T1),before IT injection (T2),at 30 min after administration on 1st,2nd and 3rd days and on day 5 after the end of administration (T3-6).All the rats were sacrificed at T6 and their L4,5 segments of the spinal cord were removed for microscopic examination. The apoptosis in spinal neurons was detected using TUNEL assay. Results Compared with the baseline value at T1,PWT was significantly decreased at T2-5 in HL,IL and G groups.PWT was significantly higher at T6 than at T2-5 in group HL.Compared with group C,the duration of motor block was significantly prolonged and the apoptotic index was increased in group HL.Compared with group IL,the duration of motor block was significantly prolonged and the apoptotic index was increased in group HL.Conclusion Hyperbaric factor can promote lidocaine-induced apoptosis in spinal neurons in rats with diabetic neuropathic pain.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of diabetic retinopathy(DR) in Chinese elderly diabetic patients. Methods One hundred and ninety patients with type 2 diabetic aged 60 years and over, including 93 males and 97 females were selected. The average age was 68.9 years and the average diabetic duration was 11.5 years.HbA1c,insulin,C-peptide and other clinical characteristics in all patients were tested. The retinopathy of the patients were examined by the retina-camera. Results There were 103 patients without deabetic retinopathy,59 patients carrying nonproliferative deabetic retinopathy and 28 patients carrying proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The above three groups had statistically different diabetic duration((121.1?93.2) vs(149.6?112.1) vs(182.2?83.5)months,P
