ABSTRACT

The authors studied prospectively the corneal curvature of senile cataract patients at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University between January 1993 and June 1995. The corneal curvature of the group 1 patients (103 eyes) with the interrupted suture method in the vertical meridian and horizontal meridian preoperatively = 43.70 + 1.47 D and 44.26+ 1.72 D and postoperatively = 44.58+ 1.89 D and 44.22+ 1.73 D respectively. The corneal curvature of the group 2 patients (71 eyes) with the continuous suture method in the vertical meridian and horizontal meridian preoperatively = 43.27+ 1.75 D and 43.63+ 1.39 D and postoperatively = 43.92+ 1.96 D and 43.61+ 1.77 D respectively. The changes in corneal curvature in the vertical meridian of both groups showed a slight difference but in the horizontal meridian no difference was shown.
