ABSTRACT

@#Facial symmetry evaluation has always been a hot topic of concern for doctors who engage in the study of facial beauty disciplines such as orthodontics, dentistry, and plastic surgery. Although scholars at home and abroad have carried out much research on the evaluation of facial symmetry with a variety of emerging technologies and methods, there is still a lack of unified standards for the evaluation of facial asymmetry due to the complexity of the content and methods and individual subjectivity. Facial asymmetry involves changes in the length, width and height of the face. It is a complex dental and maxillofacial malformation whose early identification and accurate evaluation are particularly important. Clinically, in addition to the necessary dental and maxillofacial examinations, it is also necessary to evaluate facial asymmetry with the help of corresponding auxiliary methods. This paper gives a summary of the commonly used three-dimensional evaluation methods. The evaluation methods of facial asymmetry can be divided into 5 categories: qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, dynamic analysis, mathematical analysis, and artificial intelligence analysis. After the analysis and summarization of the characteristics, advantages and limitations of each method in clinical applications, it is found that although these methods vary in accuracy, evaluation scope, diagnosis nature and calculation method, etc., the three-dimensional evaluation methods are more objective, more accurate and more convenient and will become the mainstream evaluation method for facial asymmetry with further development of three-dimensional measurement technologies.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The aims of this study are to evaluate the lip morphology and change of lip commissure after mandibular setback surgery (MSS) for class III patients and analyze association between the amount of mandibular setback and change of lip morphology. METHODS: The samples consisted of 14 class III patients treated with MSS using bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Lateral cephalogram and cone-beam CT were taken before and about 6 months after MSS. Changes in landmarks and variables were measured with 3D software program Ondemand™. Paired and independent t tests were performed for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Landmarks in the mouth corner (cheilion, Ch) moved backward and downward (p .05, p < .005). On lateral view, upper lip prominent point (UP) moved downward and stomion moved backward and upward and the angle of Ls-UP-Stm (°) was decreased. Lower lip prominent point (LP) moved backward and downward, and the angle of Stm-LP-Li (°) was increased. Li moved backward. Finally, landmarks in the lower incisor tip (L1) moved backward and upward, but stomion moved downward. After surgery, lower incisor tip (L1) was positioned more superiorly than stomion (p < .05). There were significant associations between horizontal soft tissue and corresponding hard tissue. The posterior movement of L1 was related to statistically significantly about backward and downward movement of cheilion. CONCLUSIONS: The lip morphology of patients with dento-skeletal class III malocclusion shows a significant improvement after orthognathic surgery. Three-dimensional lip morphology changes in class III patients after MSS exhibited that cheilion moved backward and downward, upper lip projection angle became acute, lower lip projection angle became obtuse, change of upper lip area on lateral view was increased, change of lower lip area decreased, and morphology of lower lip was protruding. L1 was concerned with the lip tissue change in statistically significant way.

ABSTRACT

The performance evaluation of science and technology management personnels could stimulate their enthusiasm and advance the development of science. In this article,a 3-dimensional model was set up based on the evaluating criteria, the evaluating objects & the familiarity between the appraiser and the objects, which was simplified from several complicated factors necessary in the process of evaluation.Compared with the traditional methods, this 3D model sheds more light on choosing the critical factors, which helps improve the accuracy and rationality of scientific evaluation.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study is to evaluate if the disinfection with sodium hypochlorite affects alginate molds dimensionally. From a standard model (control group-1) confectioned with 2 prosthetic components for implantation (System INP, Mod.: Standard Diameter. 6 x 3) fixed in a base of resin (Classic, Brazilian Industry), 14 molds (n=07) of irreversible hydrocolloid (type II, Jeltrate/Dentsply) were confectioned, of which were submitted under 2 experimental conditions: G2) one group was rinsed in current water for 15 seconds and immediately filled with special plaster type IV Dent-Mix/Asfer; G3) the other was rinsed in current water for 15 seconds and sprayed with a solution of sodium hypochlorite 0.5% (Asfer, Industry and I deal Ltda), conditioned in a closed plastic bag for 10 minutes, rinsed in plastered water and filled with special plaster. After 1 hour, molds and models were separated. With the assistance of a digital paquimeter (centesimal Nº PA - 04, MITUTOYO) an operator carried out the measurement between the distal points of the components of all groups. The results were analyzed by Anova under 2 criteria test of Tukey with a reliable interval of 95%. When evaluating the results, we can conclude that, the practice of disinfecting by spraying with sodium hypochlorite solution of 0.5% for 10 minutes did not influence the dimensional stability of the molds of hydrocolloid irreversible.
