ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the status of the dyadic coping in spouses of young and middle-age cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and to explore the influencing factors in bi-directional of patients and their spouses. Methods:With the convenience sampling method, a total of 150 cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy who were hospitalized in the Radiotherapy Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital from March 2021 to February 2022 and their spouses were selected. A cross-sectional study was conducted by the Dyadic Coping Inventory, the Lock-Wallace Marital Adjustment Test, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, etc. Besides, multiple linear regression was used to identify predictors of the dyadic coping in spouses of cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Results:The total score of dyadic coping, marital quality, general self-efficacy, anxiety and depression in spouses of cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy were (121.69 ± 19.67), (97.23 ± 25.05), (25.13 ± 5.19), (9.98 ± 3.46), (8.19 ± 4.06) points. The scores of anxiety and depression of cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy were (10.57 ± 3.60), (9.10 ± 4.12) points. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that factors of the patients′ anxiety and depression, spouse′s perception of marital quality, spouse′s general self-efficacy, changes in family relationship, family income, and period of radiotherapy were the main influencing factors ( P<0.01), which accounted for 55.7% of total variation. Conclusions:The level of dyadic coping in spouses of cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy was medium, the marriage quality remains to be further improved, and its influence factors involved in the bi-directional of patient and spouse, including patients′ anxiety and depression, the changes of the family relationship, period of radiotherapy, spouses perception of marital quality and self-efficacy and family income. Clinical medical staff can improve the level of dyadic coping in spouses of cervical cancer patients undergoing synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy by improving their cognition of disease, reducing the incongruence of dyadic illness appraisals, and taking multiple measures to reduce the economic burden felt of the spouses.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the relationship between psychological distress and intimacy in stroke patients and the mediating effect of different dyadic coping style, to provide theoretical guidance for improving the intimate relationship of stroke patients. Methods:A convenient sampling method was used to select 203 patients with stroke who visited the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, the People's Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Department of Neurology of Yinchuan First People's Hospital from December 2020 to July 2021 as the survey objects. The general information questionnaire, Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, Quality of Relationship Index and Dyadic Coping Inventory were used to investigate patients. Results:The scores of psychological distress, intimate relationship, positive dyadic coping and negative dyadic coping were 19.33 ± 7.46, 32.75 ± 6.79, 86.25 ± 13.22, and 16.46 ± 4.08, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that psychological distress was negatively correlated with intimate relationship and positive dyadic coping ( r=-0.195, -0.204, both P<0.01), psychological distress was positively correlated with negative dyadic coping ( r=0.229, P<0.01). The mediating effect of positive dyadic coping and negative dyadic coping on psychological distress and intimate relationship was 35.87% and 53.26%, respectively. Conclusions:The psychological distress indirectly affects the intimate relationship of stroke patients through positive dyadic coping and negative dyadic coping. Health care workers can guide patients to actively cope with the disease and encourage couples to strengthen communication, so as to enhance the intimacy of couples and promote their physical and mental health development.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate common dyadic coping (CDC) in linking with marital satisfaction and quality of life (QOL) in patients with brain injury and their spouses in a rehabilitation facility by using common fate model (CFM). MethodsFrom October, 2022 to June, 2023, 101 brain injury inpatients and their spouses in Beijing Bo'ai Hospital completed the questionnaire of Dyadic Coping Inventory, Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale and World Health Organization Quality of Life. ResultsThe level of CDC between patients and their spouses significantly positively correlated with their marital satisfaction for both partners (β = 0.814, P < 0.001), as well as correlated with their quality of life (β = 0.271, P = 0.038; β = 0.481, P < 0.001). For the dimensions of QOL, the physical, psychological, social relationship and environmental dimensions significantly positive correlated with the CDC for the spouses, and only psychological and social relationship dimensions for the patients. ConclusionFacing the stress of brain injury, the level of CDC within couples can positively predict their marital satisfaction and QOL, and effect seems stronger for the spouses. It is advisable to consider both brain injured patients and their spouses as a whole to promote psychological adaptation and improve rehabilitation outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Coping is a complex process that shows the way an individual deal with stress and conflict. The efficacy of coping strategies depends on the individual's resources and his/ her cognitive evaluation, but it also depends on the interpersonal relationship, such as in a couple relationship. The aim of this study is to analyze the concept of coping and dyadic coping, based on excerpts of interviews of a qualitative research with heterosexual intact families of middle class in Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with pre-determined questions, following a guide. All the interviews were recorded. Content Analysis was used with the aim of understanding the coping in these couples. It was observed that couples dyadically establish different ways of coping and that stress, when shared, has its effects reduced by partnership and the presence of the spouse. It was concluded that couples choose certain patterns of coping and use them together, which points out to the need of analyzing the way how couples establish dyadic coping strategies, as these strategies are the couple's dynamic foundation for facing stress and daily conflicts.
