ABSTRACT

Aims: To study the relationship of total income was incurred from the rooftop gardening with various socio economic and behavioural aspects and elicit the future opportunity for this innovative method in this global warming situation where the world is facing the increasing crisis of availability of the land resources, support sustainability, contamination of ground water, food accessibility, and economic sustainability. Study Design: The locale was selected by purposive sampling technique and the respondents following rooftop gardening had been interacted and was selected by the snowball sampling method. Place and Duration of Study: The study was carried out during 2017 and 2018. The place, Janai Road of Srirampur, Khanakul-I and Khanakul-II block of Hooghly district, Budge Budge-II, Bishnupur-I and Bishnupur-II of South 24 Parganas and various areas in Kolkata were selected for the study. Methodology: In this present study 50 respondents following rooftop gardens have been interacted and are selected by the snowball sampling method. A semi-structured schedule has been administered to generate women information regarding family composition, the rationale for opting rooftop gardening, the ecological views on roof gardening, and the cost opportunity analysis. The gathered data had been put into multivariate analysis (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences V20.0 (SPSS) of IBM was used for analyzing the Coefficient of Correlation, Stepwise Regression and Path Analysis). Results: Education (X2), rooftop area (X4), diversity of plants (X6), labour charges (X8), organic manure (X11), fertilizer (X13) variables have been found to exert strong and determining contribution to total income. Respondents revealed that it had provided a certain amount of income in addition to the conventional farming income. Conclusion: The study had revealed that Rooftop gardening is not only eco-friendly horticulture but also a successful enterprise, having all the three critical echelons viz. economy, ecology, and equity as well.

ABSTRACT

The paper is to investigate eco-design flaws in equipments for medical simulation training and explore methods to improve. The eco-design flaws in equipments for medical simulation training were elaborated from the aspects of accessories, modules, model volumes, recycling of waste equipments, and production materials. The improved methods of the flaws were demonstrated. The designs of equipments for medical simulation training can be more environment friendly by means of getting rid of unnecessary accessories, developing replaceable modules for manikin models, curtailing volumes of equipments, recycling waste equipment and using degradable production materials. As the tendency of being environment friendly in medical equipments becomes increasingly obvious, the eco-friend merits must be considered by multi-objective optimizations in the processes of design, manufacture, and employment of equipments for medical simulation training.

ABSTRACT

A preocupação das empresas com o meio ambiente e com o futuro das novas gerações impulsiona ações voltadas para o gerenciamento dos recursos e incentiva a busca por ações preventivas em relação aos aspectos ambientais (por meio da minimização de impactos associados à redução de custo e da otimização de processos). Existe uma tendência no mercado mundial para a obtenção de produtos sustentáveis, oriundos de processos produtivos voltados para a redução de desperdícios e a não geração de resíduos poluentes. Dentro desse contexto, a produção mais limpa (P+L) surge como uma ferramenta completa em que simples ajustes no modo de gerir as empresas permitem a redução da emissão/geração de resíduos. Partindo desse princípio, analisou-se o impacto ambiental do processo de produção de uma empresa fabricante de conjuntos de chuva localizada no Rio Grande do Sul por intermédio de uma Matriz de Leopold adaptada. Como resultado, elaborou-se uma proposta de P+L voltada às práticas de ecodesign e logística reversa. Por meio de quatro etapas, o programa de P+L proposto atingiu seus objetivos de forma ágil, desburocratizada e com baixos custos.


A business concern with the environment and the future of the new generations drives actions for the management of resources and the search for preventive measures in relation to environmental aspects (by minimizing impacts associated cost reduction and process optimization). There is a trend in the world market to achieve sustainable, derived products production processes aimed at reducing waste and non-waste generation pollutants. Within this context, the cleaner production (CP) comes as a complete tool where simple adjustments in the way we manage the business allows the reduction of emission/waste generation. Based on this principle, we analyzed the environmental impact of the production of a manufacturer of sets of rain located in Rio Grande do Sul through a Leopold Matrix adapted process. As a result, we prepared a proposal for cleaner production practices geared ecodesign and reverse logistics. Through four stages, the proposed program CP reached its goals of agile, less bureaucratic and with low costs.

ABSTRACT

El Ecodiseño es un tema nuevo en muchos países del mundo. En este artículo se informa sobre los aspectos relevantes que comprende el Ecodiseño, los objetivos, los beneficios y las aplicaciones que se están haciendo con esta herramienta, incluso en Centro América. El Salvador es uno de los países que ya lo implementa. Existen diferentes problemas ambientales tales como la veloz deforestación, pérdida de la diversidad biológica, escasez de agua, excesiva erosión del suelo y contaminación del aire, las cuales son algunas causas de la degradación del medio ambiente; muchos de estos problemas provienen de la producción, consumo y desecho de productos y servicios. El Ecodiseño contribuye a reducir la degradación del medio ambiente, diseñando y elaborando productos "amables con el ambiente" en todo su ciclo de vida. El conocimiento de esta herramienta se hace indispensable para todas las industrias que tienen como objetivo ser competitivas en el mercado. Ecodesign is a new topic in many countries around the world. This article reports on the relevant aspects of Ecodesign, the objectives, benefits and applications that are being made with this tool, even in Central America. El Salvador is one of the countries that already implements it. There are different environmental problems such as the speed of deforestation, loss of biological diversity, water scarcity, excessive soil erosion and air pollution, which are some causes of environmental degradation; many of these problems stem from the production, consumption and disposal of products and services. Ecodesign contributes to reducing environmental degradation, designing and manufacturing "environmentally friendly" products throughout their life cycle. Knowledge of this tool is essential for all industries that aim to be competitive in the market. In the following lines you will find more information about the benefits of its implementation.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to create EI Scal, an environmental impact assessment scal, related to construction materials used in the reinforced concrete structure production. The main reason for that was based on the need to classify the environmental impact levels through indicators to assess the damage level process. The scale allowed converting information to estimate the environmental impact caused. Indicators were defined trough the requirements and classification criteria of impact aspects considering the eco-design theory. Moreover, the scale allowed classifying the materials and processes environmental impact through four score categories which resulted in a single final impact score. It was concluded that the EI scale could be cheap, accessible, and relevant tool for environmental impact controlling and reduction, allowing the planning and material specification to minimize the construction negative effects caused in the environment.
